Thank you, I purchased the pro almost 2 months ago , downloaded two or three maps and couldn't find them. Now I did and see there is much more in this app than I ever knew.
How can you tell the elevation gain before you actually start hiking? You used to be able to move your finger on the elevation gain map to determine whether you should go clockwise or counterclockwise. I like to get the steeper elevation gain at the beginning of the hike versus at the end.
I've also noticed that with the free version of Gaia, if you look at a trail while having cell connection, of course, it stays on the screen even when there is no cell service. Recently, I was near some trailheads in Northern California and my screen showed no maps or trails. I drove a short distance to a nearby town that had cell service, saw my trails, and then when I returned, there were still there! Do you know if this is also true with All Trails? I probably will get Pro, just in case.
They need to do a lot more on the watch app for me to want this. It looks like good software but I want full watch functionality with turn by turn and be able to zoom the map on the watch so I can see where I am and where I'm going etc.
Let’s say you sketched a route in red using the custom map drawing tool. Is there a feature that navigates you to stay on the red? I would love that feature for biking but I can’t be looking at my phone while cycling so it should send notifications and maybe voice messages
Do you have a tutorial on how to record a hike (start, pause, end, etc.), which at the end I'm assuming contains distance, altitude gained, average speed, etc.? Also would like to know how to see all of this information in real time while hiking, including current elevation. Thanks!
Some of these features are on the free version but that's not really clear. Is there a chart? I have maps on my watch on the free version but that's not what you represented
Saw this review, very well done! I have purchased the Pro version, my question is, how do I use AT to do a free style hike and find my way back. I photograph nightscape Milky Way at different locations in the middle of the night in places that are not marked trails. Will be headed to Death Valley soon and want to use AT to begin a hike out into the valley until I find a spot I want to shoot. Once I'm done I want to use the app to lead me right back to my car. I will not have cell coverage in Death Valley, is this a function AT is capable of doing? Thank you
It would help if you could respond to questions asked in response to your video. I have a general question-I may have forgotten to turn off the app at the end of the hike. I got into my car and drove away some 30 kilometers. The app continued did detect that I had stopped the hike and offered me an option to terminate the hike in the app or that I was driving and instead recorded the drive as part of the hike, completely skewing the statistics of the hike. In a long hike the Apple Watch (8 hours plus) dies before the hike is done. I would also like to hear your response about the custom (non-established or freestyle) trail questions.
Another very helpful video. I don’t think I’ll need to upgrade based on my activities. As far as emergency help - remember there’s a GPS satellite 📡 emergency 🆘 on iPhones. 😉
I have never used the messages. When I am on a trail in the hills I have no internet so I doubt this will work. I assume internet is required for messages to work. I do not hold my phone in hand watching the phone with every step on trail. I look at it periodically to see if I am on the trail. I have noticed a few times I was off trail. I did not get any sound warning me I am off trail. Why was that?
I find the Pro version very frustrating. It shows all sorts of trails except the one(s) I am interested in, the GR34 in Brittany from Saint-Malo. There is no simple search function (incredible). A search for any location on this route gives you dozens of irrelevant options and not one of the most popular trains in France.
Too many problems with this app. Starting with how to find hikes nearby to the place you want to start from, or how to get from where you are to the actual starting point for hikes. Just one example, a 9 miler in Calabria, Italy starts in a hilly or mountainous area, and continues out for approximately 9 miles. No clue how to get to the start since no actual roads are shown going to the start, or how to get down from the hills at the end point. So I guess it's an out and back for a total of 18 miles. The app assumes you want to start it when you're standing at the beginning of a hike--not that you may actually want to scout several different ones from a location far away from the actual hikes, like where you live instead of where you're going for vacation later on.
You have a lot of good knowledge and information but you go so fast I can't keep up. I wish you would re-do at a slower pace. I guess I can replay the same elements several times to follow you better.
Purchased made at during the 1/2 price sale! I am impressed with all the capabilities of the app-and still exploring. Great video!

Does it show a downloaded trail path on the minimap on the Apple Watch app ?

Is Gaia an app

I'm doing multi day through hike. Do I just pause each night? Do I turn it off to save power? Does it add up the various stages? Thx

Notifications can be viewed from my watch. However I can’t stare at the GPS continuously when riding

Just go into the app and click “navigate”

Plus, i find bits of the GR34 on the website but, when I choose, open in app, the app says content unavailable. I have the pro version.
So Pro is the same as what's now called Plus?
Yes same thing
@@jayasmrmore3687 Thanks
Can’t install it on my Apple watch! Can you help?
I have an apple watch 5 and I just installed it in phone and it works on watch when you open app on phone first.
If you get premium can you have a login on more than one device? ie can myself and my girlfriend have the premium app on our respective phones?
great review! i learned a lot . thanks
You can't put markers like your favourite spots???

I think Gaia would work well for that. I’ve been watching reviews and tutorials and from what I understand you can create your own trail

It baffles me how you would ask someone who isn't associated with all trails and not all trails themselves 😂

Rick Shears, I have never received a warning either.
starting with my 7 days trial,,i think i will get the pro later👍😊
Can you track back to your start point ? Ex. Using bread crumbs.
Plus, i thought you said you had done a video on how to customise trails. Again, maddening.

doing it !

You can change playback speed to slower
I played that at 2.0X and then replayed the few parts that weren't obvious. Please don't go slower!
@@robertsaunders30 weird flex, but okay...
Web site never works
Just pop ups to become a member
I want back to the free version
the only thing i found about alltrails is that it eats batteries like crazy
Yup. I've tried it multiple times and wanna love it but I can watch my batt percentage come down in realtime almost.
Not worth it since you have to have your phone the entire time. If they made a standalone app for Apple Watch,I would purchase a subscription
This is all dependant on cell phone service. When you hike on most hiking trails in California this app is useless
