Hey Des, will it be possible to create routes or use gpx files?
SO HOW DO YOU GET TO THE TOPO MAPS!!!!!!
Thanks for a quick update what could be expected on aw maps on watchos10! 😊 So no signs of possibility to plan routes using topo maps?
Excellent video! Thank you! I installed the beta on my phone and watch and I can see maps but not topo. Can you help? Thanks!
Hi Des, so what if your phone is about to to die and you need to go to a specific address. Can you share the destination with the Ultra and will it somehow guide you or won''t if work because it needs the maps from the phone still?
Do you know a way to add or remove old racer routes. I started mine a year ago and they are short compared to the routes I ride now, and would like to extend or make new ones, but can find a way. Any Ideas?
Great video Des! They sure do have some missteps with the maps launch. Thanks for the video man!
Thanks Eric! 🙌
Will these features and the cycling ones you also made a video about work on the series 8?
It’s funny that Apple cannot beat the WorkOutDoors app
Is that better than the native workouts app?
@@Zeero_Kool You can customize almost everything, connect external Bluetooth sensors, you have offline topo map with possibility to upload gpx track. I’m using native app for running (when I don’t need gpx, love option to race with my previous time) but for any other sport I’m using workoutdoors
Give it some time. It’s only the first public beta
@@Zeero_Koolfor map related stuff, definitely. Other that view the map I use it to load previously prepared gpx routes for hikes and it's really convenient to see everything in one place
@@Zeero_KoolIt absolutely blows away alples native app. Workoutdoors is phenomenal . GPS/breadcrump maps for hiking and or biking trails with an absolutely dizzying amount of options to track such as elevation, elevation gain, heartrate, and literally 50+ more options. I cant imagine apples new topo map being anywhere near workoutdoors in its first year.
My first watch with "inofficial" outdoor maps was my Fenix 1 which I bought in 2012!🤔
Thanks for the video been waiting long enough, good to see Apple finally looking into this
You’re welcome
when are the topographic maps going to be available?
Im still yet to be able to access these topo maps. Where in the maps app do I go to activate the topo maps?
Thanks for the update
No problem 👍
Need an update to this. Just picked up the Ultra 2
We are going on snowkiting trips in the outback. No routes, no trails, sometimes just whiteout and snow. We are looking for pure waypoint navigation. Think: Just an arrow and distance. Managing the waypoints on a map on iPhone or Mac and using them on a Ultra watch. Do you know of any app providing this functionality? (The build in Compass app does not offer any sensible way of managing waypoints)
Its a shame it still cant store map on the watch itself.
purchased latest ultra. downloaded maps. unable to see any contour lines. not usable.
thanks for your video, one question, is this feature of offline maps will only works with apple watch max or with a series 4 will works?
i may have missed it, but with offline maps, can the Ultra use the GPS to place your location on the map? (if you don’t have cell coverage).
Gps uses satelite signals to find your coordenations, so it justs points on said coordenations on the downloaded map. So yes, it should point your location without phone service
4:19 i spy Sherwin Lakes... they just need to make it Shervin Lakes
🕵️🧐
Thank you 👍👏
Very welcome!
So u can’t navigate with the Watch alone ?
Apple maps also dont track back as well as Garmin. Off road they usually tell you go to back through an impossible area like a river. Bugs or whatever but apple needs to get on it been over a year.
Hi, is there an app or function to manage recovery time after training, like on Garmin or Suunto. Thank you
Athlytic is a great app for that
thanks a lot, i will try it@@DesFit
So as it looks a quasi-hybrid offline map system that is user unfriendly cause in real you wanna have maps on the watch. Maybe Apple's think different :))
It'd be nice for the downloaded maps to be on the iwatch itself. I've used the watch alone without the phone a number of times and it would be nice to not need the phone. With 64GB on the series 9 i don't think the maps would take up that much space as google maps take up 500mb - 2GB at their largest and a lot of the maps I download are around 200mb so not a massive amount of data in my opinion
So my friend to use the offline maps I open location on to the ultra watch only?or I have to open Bluetooth also and location on in iPhone too?
i am totally confused here .. did you get an answer ?
@@triathleteuk no
yeh he doesnt seem to reply to any questions .. i'm not sure of the point of doing a video that doesnt give a damn about your viewers@@user-yb4vi6vj1k
that map display same as the Amazfit display..
Apple is finally getting in the game kinda! Now if the can get rid of the iPhone and just rely on the "Ultra" watch for offline maps.
Ah, so that still does not work despite having cellular? Pfff...
I think it’s stupid on apple part you can’t download maps to the watch Wow
i hope apple will launch a apple watch solar 😅
With the power needs of an Apple Watch, solar would likely not make much a difference with such a small solar charging area
BS that the maps are not on the watch.
Apple Watch is cool but it’s nothing new
