I've been following your channel for a little while now and really had a breakthrough with my driver yesterday. Your videos gave me the tools to not only begin to correct my technical errors, but to know what went wrong when I hit a bad shot. Previously, I didn't know what caused my bad shots, so I couldn't address the problem. I've begun to "know" what it feels like to square up the face, because of the variable learning drills you've shown, which have helped me tune into that a bit more. Then, using the foot spray stuff you've talked about, provided me with the immediate feedback to see that I was typically making contact with the ball low and towards the heel, even with my tee set high. Then it clicked, I needed to stand further from the ball, which forced me to have to reach for it more and prevented me from swinging across my body and either slicing or hitting a shot straight to my left. I could then focus on keeping that 'hula hoop' shape going towards the ball. Just like that, my drives are flying consistently further and straighter. I don't think I'll be scared to approach the tee the next time I play a round. I sure am glad I found this channel. Thanks TSG team!
Clay, you’re the best RUclips golf instructor. You’ve helped me improve my game so much. The problem is now that I’m hitting every club longer and cleaner, all my previously known distances are short. Good problem to have I suppose
I would recommend to anyone who is used to a lower tee hight to put tape on the top leading edge of the driver until you get used to using the higher tee.
Thanks for another game changing video Clay! I will work on this technique on the course tomorrow. Thanks for also explaining how low spin drivers work. I’ll just invest in longer tees to hit long straight bombs!
Thanks Clay........you explained perfectly why I do what I do with my driver !! I always seem to hit my ball out and up from the center.......and when I miss that spot it's hardly ever good!! I've had Pros tell me I need a new low spin driver. (I play Ping I-25..9*). I tell them why would I do that if I have hit some of my longest drives with this one and more consistently.!! I always felt it was me not the driver........and you are right !!! I'm like you......love my old driver as it stays in the fairway and now I'll get my distance back......lol
Hey bud. My friends kid wanted to learn and I gave him your channel and told him to only learn and watch from one person, which as i said before you are the best. Clear voice, clear descriptions and great instruction. I want you to help point one thing for me that i struggle with. It’s how to warm up before a friendly competitive round of golf within 45 mins and second how to prevent a left shoulder dive on the transition and the right shoulder coming around.
I normally tee my golf ball high for my driver and more often than not get a slight draw flight. This way I feel I don’t have to hit it that hard to get distances around 290-320yds. Great video 👍🏽
Good content. I’d also highly recommend getting fit for a low spin shaft with a high lofted MOI driver so the forgiveness is there, but the spin is controlled with the shaft. Ex. Sim Max with a Ventus Blue Shaft would be a good start.
Great video, dies it matter what type of ball you are using, because they are making balls with lower spin with more of the premium balls compared to the lower cost balls?
Excellent explanation of the role of face contact on backspin. Always felt better hitting slightly below sweet spot but now I understand the value of hitting it slightly higher, even if if it doesn’t sound as solid. Thanks.
Hi Clay, thx for the cool video and also everything else on your channel, its been helping me a lot in my game! As a beginner I wonder how i should progress in golf. For instance do I start with perfecting half swings, and then progress to three quater and then full swing? or immediately start practising full swings? Thx in advance :)
My issue is I was hitting up on it +9 degrees so spin wasn't too bad but launch angle was 17-19 degrees... 110 swing speed but ball speed and smash way down..
If my left arm is shorter cause the bone overlapped when I broke it 1.5 inches down from the joint, I mean I slice like crazy sometimes. Is that sometimes the reason cause i might be pulling i mean my left elbow bends at the top of my swing so is there something i can do that won't make me lose distance, i usually hit it 230 on a good swing and 200 on the slice. I know no one can tell me exactly cause my shoulder is unique in the way its healed but yeah feels like I've tried everything and I keep slicing so should I just turn more left and play the slice or something like that lol
It might be making it difficult to swing the club more from the inside with a closed face but if you slice then it's the same reason as everyone else, your path is too far out to in. Check out our slice videos on our channel for help. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf so i went golfing the day after and shot an 89 which is about 7 strokes better than normal for me but yeah i was hitting them only 220 but it was straight and my irons have never been better! Choking up a bit made all the difference around the green 80 yards out
Clay - would you also recommend a faster back swing as long as it was a smooth correct back swing to increase club head speed and distance? Great video as always.
"Tee it higher", it's the most frightening and perhaps insulting phase to hackers. Unfortunately, I don't tell them anymore. They all say...... " but but but ... I cant do that, whenever I tee it higher, I swing under the ball.....look".
I’ve used the foot spray trick on the range.., found out I was consistently hitting the driver on the inside of the face. My hand Path was was too far away from my body thru the ball
Thanks Clay. I struggle with high spin on my driver with not so great distance. These videos are worth the price of admission
My pleasure!

Awesome 👍 This is exactly what I'm struggling with too, keep forgetting to bring my foot spray but thanks for sharing your experience ⛳🏌️
Wow, thanks fro sharing! Glad to help. Sounds like you're on the right track so keep up the hard work.

What shaft weight and flex are you using

If you're a total beginner then yes, start with shorter swings and make them longer.
Clay dropping bombs!!! 340
haha
What size tees are you using?
3"

Aim right to accommodate an online pull-draw: the path is moving up and left.
Thanks for sharing!
How would you fix a swing that’s too shallow I can’t find any videos on one?
Try to swing over the top and rotate more
What is your G410 driver spec.?
That's a secret :-)
To tee it higher, so do we use taller tee?
You may need to if you use short tees
How much am I supposed to tilt my right shoulder during set up?
Nice..i like that..👍👍👍
Thanks!
Will applying lib balm reduce spin?
It can but it's against the rules of golf
Clay - would you also recommend a faster back swing as long as it was a smooth correct back swing to increase club head speed and distance? Great video as always.
It can help but your ball speed may go down if you can't control it and hit the ball solid
Does this apply for fairway woods being placed on a tee?
Yes
So a fade/slice shape has a lot more backspin than a draw.
Not necessarily. They have more spin access tilt.
"Tee it higher", it's the most frightening and perhaps insulting phase to hackers. Unfortunately, I don't tell them anymore. They all say...... " but but but ... I cant do that, whenever I tee it higher, I swing under the ball.....look".

Clay looks like a totally different person when he's not wearing the bucket hat 😱
Haha
That's strange because I just lowered my tee height because I kept driving them super high.
how about keeping the same tee hight but moving tee further left?
thanks for sharing
so this is just showing us what spin is and how its created and the "how to lower your drive spin" is in another video we have to pay for?
You must have been asleep , I'll help you jump to 9:20 in for summary.
