Clay I've been watching tons of your videos, you have a great attitude and excellent way of explaining. I never understood why my 3 wood could go as far as my driver from the deck. You wrapped my head around the spin rates with driver, and the strike needed to lower it. I just got back from the range and put my drive 40 yards longer from 230-240- to 280ish. Love to see a little match maybe one day on your channel, you're an excellent ball striker, keep up the videos!!
Clay, this was absolutely awesome!! Thank you so much. Now I need to learn how to get some of that swing speed for over 50. Thanks again for sharing this!!!!
probably watched more than half a dozen videos on this topic and this one has to be the best. I tee way too low as i get better contact but not the distance.
Excellent video clay, many thanks for your work!!!! I´ve learned more from your videos than in 20 years of taking golf lessons!!!! Please go on producing such great content!!! Take care, Harald
Great video, I like how you really explained it and showed examples. I really believe if you understand the theory of something you are half way there. Will consider signing up to your website for stuff like this!
Amazing how far He hits that thing!! Definitely learned something here Ive always got a -2, to -3 degree attack angle on my driver can't seem to hit up on it. end drop kicking the mat every time I try to hit up ore when I do make good contact its always a neg. attack! AHHH now I know because the rubber tees are too short even the longest ones are too short . I even bought a trackman 4 last week been practicing to get the numbers right and just couldn't figure it out. Just dawned on me after watching this video. also my 103 ClubHead speed 1.48 SF 152 ball speed and I'M only getting 235 yards total didn't seem right. going to have to go buy some long tees and stick them into the mat beside the rubber tees. give it a try! Thanks TSG
Thanks Clay. Finally someone who explains clearly where the ball has to be on the face. I worked out the high tee position from watching the tour pro's and that added distance immediately. So I have a question ❓ How do you do the same with your fairway woods and irons?
1) I was fitted for a driver shaft length where my swing shallows. 44" 2) i got a 12 degree Ping g410 Plus. 3) SS is about 90 - 94 mph. Spin # is around 2100 rpm. I'm hitting mostly draws with a miss of a push fade.
Wonder who voted down thumb! Anyway, this is spot on. I have a 7 degree driver, given to me by the inventor. The shaft is designed to kick ball on average around 10 degrees. Only driver I have hit 300 yards with and am 76 years old. I am hitting with taller tee, ball forward and above the sweet spot as you describe! Key: Have watched as many of your videos as possible and put them into practice! Thanks.
Clay, thanks for your excellent vids. I was at the driving range yesterday (first time since May due to medical issues) and I noticed about 1 of 20 or 30 balls would have a really odd flight, taking off on a beautiful trajectory and then dropping almost straight down, and sometimes appearing to curve on the fall. I know, it sounds like aliens messing with my ball. I attributed it to crappy range balls at first, but later it occurred to me that this is the ball flight that a knuckleball pitcher throws! Is it possible to actually hit a zero spin golf ball? I know when I was younger I would occasionally get a knuckleball coming at me playing baseball. They lacked carry and were harder to catch. If it is really a case of hitting zero spin balls, would you recommend a more descending blow or adding a degree or so of loft to the clubface? THANKS!
thank you. That data is crazy close to what my average is 256 carry, 152 ball speed, launch angle a little of as mine is 11 not 9 but amazingly close. Looks like I just need to hit up on the damn ball...I suck, golf is hard
What is the apex of these shots? Data at the bottom of the screen did not show this. My drives tend to be excessively high and I'd like to trade some height for distance.
Swings can look identical and have much different results. Hitting the ball a 1/4" off center can make a big difference. You won't see that on camera. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf Yes it's strange. Never seen myself on video but in my mind and my action when I try to get my angle of attack up a demonstrable amount it looks and feels to me very different. I have played golf pretty well for 30 years and only the last 4 years learned about angle of attack and taking spin off Driver for length. I joined a tree lined Course 2 years ago and unbeknownst to me my Angle of Attack and Swing Speed has gradually got worse due to concentrating on hitting fairway and not trees. It's gone from 112mph to 104mph without me noticing! Was on Trackman for the first time for 2 years last week at a Cobra demo day. I know what I'm going to be doing this Winter! Great video by the way! 👍
Main point to side spin occurs when clubface brushes sideway to the ball I think.Normally torso turned after impact and that causes clubface to brush the ball sideway. We need to send the clubhead straight to the target or 1o'clock.See Moe Norman's.Been struggling for more than 30yrs. and just realize the side spin.
Brilliant video and explained perfectly. I find my spin rates throughout the bag are spot on and then I get to the damn 10.5 driver and it sits at 2900-3200...eff...I am fairly straight ball hitter with a swing speed of around 103-107. Do you think I would benefit from a 9 degree driver? I hit the sweet spot quite consistently. Thoughts?
@@todpharis4996 you won't notice a whole lot more distance with a 9° driver. According to trackman, your attack angle is too low. That's what's causing the spin, not the driver. Also, 3200rpm is not ridiculously high for a driver. Touring pros can still carry the ball 290 yrds with 3000 spin, It sounds like you have a slight flip at the bottom throwing away your angles. See your diagram below: www.dropbox.com/s/20nci8mtab3kc8c/IMG-20191109-WA0063.jpg?dl=0
Hi Tod, that spin rate isn't optimal but it's not bad. You could try lowing the loft some and see if it helps. You can also deloft the face more and hit more up on it. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi, we have not done many and it's mainly because we won't do a negative review. I have not used this training aid but I can tell you that based on what I see online, I wouldn't recommend it. It forces you to be in positions instead of you doing it on your own. These types of training aids are not very effective. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I hit them in the centre but hit high and right with a draw. So high that it drops and does not roll much. How do you hit with a positive angle of attack but still hit a lower trajectory?
I want to know how to get more back spin. Sometimes I hit a drive, which has a great launch angle and seems to have good velocity. The ball initially takes off well, but then it's like the pull of gravity got 3 times stronger (or something from the twilight zone happened) and the ball suddenly falls out of the sky. When it hits the ground, it rolls like mad going forward maybe another 75 yds. It's like I got topspin instead of back spin? But topspin is supposed to be impossible. Maybe I am not generating enough back spin, but I am in the dark. There is a certain driving range that has the TopTracer launch monitors. These used to provide spin information, but now they took that away!!! :(
I'm hitting two much spin with the driver. No matter what club, even low spin heads. The two times I saw a fitter, two times at a demo day, a common theme was too much backspin killing my distance. So frustrating. I don't know what to do.
The easiest way to lower spin is to hit the ball just above center sweet spot. I'd get some foot powder spray or impact stickers and go to the range and try to make contact with that area of the face consistently. You can use the spray or stickers to identify where you're making contact. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor
Hi mate, from Australia. Despite a positive angle of attack, I was still spinning the ball around 2800-4000. Any ideas off the top of your head? After watching this I spent two hours on Trackman. My best hits were around 280 yards. Great articulation in your vids, thanks
my swing speed it around 105. My driver loft (G425max) is 9 deg. my spin rate is 3,300 to 3,700. I only carry it around 240 - maybe 250 if I'm lucky. I want that extra 20y of carry - but I can't get rid of that high spin. Should I try to increase my driver loft? Thanks for the video.
Maybe some but that would make it pretty difficult to hit it with a square club face and club path. You'll likely hit a lot of pulls. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf yes the risk of pulling it is the obvious consequence of that set up, but could that not be countered by aiming right, i also understand the club head speed reaches it peak speed past its lowest point in the arc , hence my thinking on placing the ball left of your left foot by a few inches, and on a high tee , presently trialing it out out my local golf course
