      We missed having him be a part of the video:-) One of our boys good friends from Georgia is down visiting us so he was busy doing all the things:-) we started back with our school a couple weeks ago-but we basically do year round school with the boys…it’s just fun to make an official start day. Year round school allows us to take advantage of all the adventures that pop up

    Wow I love those star fruits❤ I do use DIY fish emulsion too. I wish I can plant fruit trees in the yard too..I'm only planting them in pots in our lanai otherwise the birds, squirrels, rabbits will eat the fruits before I get to pick them. Over all I loved your garden yard. ❤

    Incredible property. We currently live in north GA but we’re moving to SWF in a few months so we’re super excited to grow fruits on our property. This year’s garden hasn’t been great for us here and we had a drought problem. Georgia heat is different from Florida. We were actually on Manasota Island during the tropical storm and that was interesting. I love your channel and it’s very inspiring.

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! We had a dry spring here in Florida and Georgia it was a dry August…it certainly had a direct effect on everything. We lost our avocado and mango fruits to the dry spell in Florida…such a bummer…however our dragon fruit really shined from the dryness! And guavas and pineapples did all good too! It’s interesting to see the plants react to the different types of weather that come their way! There are so many fun fruits to grow in Florida and you can really cram it all together which makes for a beautiful edible forest! All the best making your move! You guys will enjoy the totally different palette of plants to grow here!

    Things are looking nice as always! What type of Guava do you guys like the best? I'm thinking of getting a Guava tree and not sure if the Pink one or Pineapple one is better?

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  5 месяцев назад +1

      I have really only tasted Peruvian white, red ruby guava, and pink guava. I think Pink is the most productive and easy to grow, also is very delicious! We would love to try a pineapple guava too, and get one planted. But I haven’t tried it before. Out of our varieties pink is the best, most tasty, and the fruit is incredibly fragrant

    • @nateross14
      @nateross14 5 месяцев назад

      @@IslandsnHighlands Pink sounds like good one to start with then, I'll get one of those. Plus the color looks really nice inside. Thanks for the feedback.

      @@IslandsnHighlandsI appreciate your content. It helps inform my decisions of where to install our edible and ornamental plants towards our goal of an edible landscape.
      Regarding Honey/Ataulfo mango, a favorite of ours, they are polyembryonic and are easily grown true from seed. We've successfully started several from grocery store fruit.

    Do you have pecan trees? I’ve learned that some varieties are doable in Florida but am trying to find out what people in the area have

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  25 дней назад

      I’m not sure about pecan trees in our area of Florida-too salty. However northern Florida they have orchards! Macadamia nut trees are supposed to do well and I’d love to get a tree planted to try

    Question. There are many gardeners here in North America that use worm casting liquid or worm casting soil. So, is using that good or bad? Maybe it depends on what state the person is in. 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  5 месяцев назад +1

      I think it’s a great way to measure soil! We use worm castings occasionally both in Florida and in north Georgia.

    I was told that you can't plant different types of bananas close to each other is that true ?

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  5 месяцев назад

      You can plant different types of bananas close to each-other, but as they mature and put off new pups / off-shoots you might start to loose track of which off-shoot came from which banana (unless of course you plant very different varieties close to each other, such as a tall variety next to a dwarf variety)... We plant different varieties of bananas at least 6' away from each other to keep track of everything.

    • @larryhenry719
      @larryhenry719 5 месяцев назад

      Thank you for that information I will plant them that way I'm in Pinellas and bananas grow well here

    Can you safely remove pups from a fruiting banana

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  5 месяцев назад

      I have many times- Wait until the flower stops putting off fruit, remove the pup, and replace the void with high quality garden soil or native soil / compost mix.

    bananas are begging for organic matter, collect some grass from the roadside where the county mows grass.
