    The Brevard bees are more chill! I'm in Brevard, too, been here 25 years and still learning about gardening. Your sons are great, thanks for sharing!

      Thank you! Agreed…in Georgia if you just walk under a wasp nest you will be attacked…beach wasps are chill

      Oh how lovely to live in Hawaii! We love to surf and want to go there to visit soon! We just get the pineapples from the store, I bought a white pineapple and planted it years ago but I don’t remember where I planted it lol we have a local grower here who grows pink pineapples too! Happy gardening!

    Great content. Nice plantation or is it a plant nation. I also collect plants from discards, cuttings and seeds. I even ordered a few online. I'm due to have a plant delivered Friday 8/16/24. It's a Dudleya virens 'hassei' native Catalina Island CA. It's going to be a great potted plant. They are hard to source because they are now protected from poachers especially Asian exporters. 😊

    Love your videos. If you leave those wasp you will not be able to harvest those guavas. I made that mistake and got stung and a larger nest is much harder to deal with.

      Thanks!!! The wasps we have in Florida aren’t nearly as aggressive as the ones we have in North Georgia. We rarely get stung down here.

    Hello fellow floridian! Wondering how far into 10A you are. I live in debary and I'm on the line of 9a and 9b literally on the line. I've been wondering if I'd be able to grow coconuts here. Maybe in a pot to keep it easier to protect the few days we get frost? I have 2 different types of sour sop, icecream bean, custard apple, star fruit, like 3 or 4 different types of dragon fruit, 2 maybe 3 different passion fruit, wonderful pomegranate and so much more. I've had them for at least 3 years so I've been able to keep them protected and growing nice and bigger every year. So I'd imagine if coconut will do well here. Do yall eat your sprouted coconuts? Or do you just move and plant them around the yard?

      You have a nice collection! Our ice cream bean hasn’t taken off yet, but I’m excited to see how that goes. I would try to find a sprouted coconut to try and plant so you aren’t out a big investment in case you lose it one winter. Are coconuts growing around your area that you have seen? That’s usually a good way to tell. We do eat our sprouted coconut apples/queens bread-it’s such a delicious treat. They have to have the right amount of sprouting-we have opened a couple overripe queens bread that isn’t as nice of a texture as the ones not quite as far along. We just found a volunteer passion fruit-I’m hoping it’s purple. We lost our purple after 4 years, so make sure you can get more baby vines every 2 years to keep it going. Now we have to wait again for the fruit, it is such a great prolific fruit to grow and makes everything delicious

    Love the channel! random question, I live in central Fl as well and I'm working on getting my food forest set up with my family. What do you guys do to avoid being eaten by bugs? especially since ya'll roam barefoot. Every time my daughters help me in the yard and they are barefoot they get tons of bug bites. I get them too but not as bad.

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  2 месяца назад

      The bugs come and go in waves depending on the season, rain, etc- sometime we have none for weeks. But when we do have them, we use an organic homemade bug spray:

      I will say my brother and his family came to visit from north GA and they just got eaten alive by the mosquitoes and no-see-ums, while my family was barely effected doing the same activities. Maybe suntans help :) Best of luck with your food forest!

    I’m been trying to grow mango in Jacksonville Florida in a pot any tips?

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  2 месяца назад

      We’ve never grown a mango in a pot, but I would make sure it’s a big pot with wheels! I would also add mulch to top layer if it were me (make sure it isn’t right up against the trunk though). And also any plant in a pot is a plant on life support-extra care is needed for adding nutrients and they need extra watering.
