Yes indeed Webby. The whole album is one huge chunk of U2`s very best songwriting. I like almost ever track on the album, and there is really no " filler " songs. I like this song in every single way musically. Melody, lyrics, guitar, huge badass bass playing and fine drumming. Larry Mullin Jr. is a fine drummer who gets no recognition really. One of the best songs ever done by U2.
i think his voice was at its absolute peak at this time period. but also i think when he was recording this album he was singing with absolute genuine passion, A LOT of bands and artists, i would even argue the vast majority are just trying to get a new album out or to create new material. i think it is actually rare for a group to be truly inspired by their own work at the time, at this particular time i think U2 were genuinely in love with America and really seeing it for the first time after growing up across the globe and hearing about it their whole lives. i believe the absolute exuberance in this song is real and that is rare and hard to record and it brought something more out in the bands performance. today they are like any other working band out there, they are just trying to write new content and get it out. but there is probably no real passion for it it is just work.
We need new dreams tonight...becasue they deserve a better world....we need new values tonight - because they deserve a better world...liberty and justice are not enough ... violence of all kinds toward children must end - but when?

@@susieinthecountry4434 Its funny that you and the first guy should say that. according to Bono, this song was born out of a session in the studio under his house where the other three struggled to 'get some rock and roll out of the edge' Either way, its one of the best things they ever did.
From my teenage years and dreams of desert landscapes, to my first duty station as a Marine in 29 Palms in the Mojave Desert of California (right outside Joshua Tree National Park), to THE deserts of the Middle East...this song has always been there for me...I am STILL in the desert and like a siren she STILL calls to me....In God's Country ;)

This video changes everything. As Americans I think it was lost on us at the time. U2's relationship with the states must have been more of a refuge than I had previously considered. The anti-hero that shouted a battle cry in Sunday Bloody Sunday, finally got to rest his weary head In God's Country.
It's pretty clear from the interviews that they had a love/hate perspective. As great as they think it is in one moment, suddenly corruption, poverty and racism is around the corner.
I was walking across Colorado winter of '98, diamond dust blowing in the sun, and this song was in my headphones. Earlier that decade, walking across El Paso in the summer sunshine, same feeling, same set, a setting sun, golden twilight splashing around like amber whiskey from the sky, spilling over the mountains, flowing like a river of honey colored light down, down, into the abyss of dusk, and the starling dark blues and blacks of a desert night, slowly reclaiming the light until the sun rose the next morning. Keep going. It's worth it.

I have a favor to ask. Post nuclear war, Christianity is going to learn it was controlled largely by the Soviet Union. Learning this and being post nuclear war, much of Christianity will feel suicidal. But, intelligence agencies want Christianity to know that guilt trips are not needed, if Christianity wasn't used by the USSR, somethings else even more powerful would have been targeted by the Soviet Union. It's the actual point of the song, "Losing My Religion" by REM, where, oh no, Micheal Stipe said too much, and didn't say enough (to Christianity). Post nuclear war, could you, first, stay alive, and go mass media with Michael Stipe's message? Maybe if you proof this request is before nuclear war in origination by me, they'd believe you, and won't lose to Soviet induced guilt trips, and feel less oppressed and depressed therefore! Please?

My first time hearing this beautiful song 🎵🎵🎵It was featured in the movie "THREE KINGS" ( George Clooney, Ice Cube) .I own the movie and have just watched it again tonight. This song closes out the movie. Loved it . Powerful.
I saw a video of U2 performing this song live . I found it on RUclips. Not a concert in the U.S. He actually did an intro that the song was a tribute to the IRISH immigrants that started coming to the U.S. ( I think mid 1800's was the first big wave) He was praising our country, and the reference to the Statue of Liberty 🗽 in this video is very profound. What a great song 🔥❣️
Pay attention to the video, the song sounds uplifting, but the message is a warning and criticism to modern society. U2 were and will always be ahead of their time
80's U2 get me sentimental and teary...they where so mature and on point with society in general...all those motley crueish and heavy metal bands where childish macho music detached from my reality in my town, pop music was disposal bs most of the time, the underground goth/punk/garage crowd was too cool to be indentified with, new wave was pointless at times and rap music too mean spirited and street wise...to me u2 was like in the middle of it all standing TALL and keeping an eye from the past and into the future...whatever happened to the fallen ones? what will we do and how to move on? How to apreciate life and fight for it?, how to make something positive with our lives? All those questions and critiques while making rock music. Thank you guys.
The official VIDEO is great too. Nice tribute to Irish immigrants coming over here circa 1850. Beautiful composition to the song as well. Listen to their " official VIDEO" all the time. Bono's long hair , leather jacket, gold hoop earring , made a very sexy front man. Love this jam❣️🎵 Too often over looked and it's my favorite song by them.

I have a “Desert Island One Hundred”, a list of 100 songs that I would take to such an island if I were confined there. “In God’s Country” is very near the top of that list. Moving, simple, sweet, and pure, resonating in my head and my heart.
No. Not in a class with Zeppelin, _never_ in a league with Bob Marley (in my opinion of course) Thirty years ago I believed The Joshua Tree was the finest album ever recorded. I don't really think so anymore but I can't justify it Still this song came blasting through the headphones of my mind a few days ago and _now_ I think it's the best thing they ever recorded. A better world is coming.
Incredible song, We Love ❤️ U2. We Salute You. Blessings.
I have a “Desert Island One Hundred”, a list of 100 songs that I would take to such an island if I were confined there.
“In God’s Country” is very near the top of that list.
Moving, simple, sweet, and pure, resonating in my head and my heart.
U2 in my opinion is the greatest band of all time. Right up there with Led Zeppelin and Marley.
No. Not in a class with Zeppelin, _never_ in a league with Bob Marley (in my opinion of course)
Thirty years ago I believed The Joshua Tree was the finest album ever recorded. I don't really think so anymore but I can't justify it
Still this song came blasting through the headphones of my mind a few days ago and _now_ I think it's the best thing they ever recorded. Well...I love that one that BB King sings too...
Probably my fav u2 song
Greatest album ever from the best band ever 40 years a fan it will take a lot of magic to better the joshua tree

This song was playing on a Calgary radio station as I was entering the Canadian Rockies and Banff National Park 🏞️ in May 1994.
