  • What is the science behind Izaya Orihara's character? Could he really be considered the villain of the story?
In this video I try and break down his actions, in order to open the door and see what defines Izaya's character.

May I just add that Izaya bluntly said to that first suicidal girl that he loves humans, but still dislikes her.. maybe because he doesn't want people to kill themselves, so he hates that kind of mindset and is purposely getting involved with them to see if his manipulating words and actions will change their mind.

Izaya is considered to be an anti-villain and at the same time an anti-hero since he's not an ally of justice nor villainy, he's just an ally of neutral as himself. Same goes to Shizuo of course, the bartender is an anti-hero too, since the creator/author claims that there are no protagonists or antagonists in the series, just anti-heroes and anti-villains.

I totally agree about suicidal girl and bullying girl!! The bullying girl was awful, and she totally deserved getting her phone smashed, I don't even understand the debate on this one, guess people only saw it as wrong because it's Izaya...
About suicidal girl, it's more delicate and complicated of course, but he was right about what he said to her! She saw suicide as something heroic and romantic, when he told her the reality - if you jump, you'll just smashed, and there'll be nothing...And the fact that that girl saves him in the end, only proves it! Yeah, her initial intention was to hurt him, and she said that she saved him only to be there when he dies, but the fact is she still saves him - it's like a reversed situation on what he did to her, and also - Izaya's first and last appearance was connected to this girl, so I think it was symbolic, and proves the double view on his actions..

I agree with everything that he does cause I love to see how people react in stressful moments or dangerous moment cause they act rash or calm depending on their personalities.
