The first anime that has a terrible ending this year is Date a Live I started to notice that the story was going too fast from season 3 and 4 and my god The season 5 was a complete waste and non sense in every way everything ended so suddenly I know that date a live was going to have a bad ending but my god The my hero academia and attack on titan endings are way better endings than everything in that series

Difference between bad and "bad" most are just terrible or weird.

According to Oshi no Ko, the mangaka may not be the force padding things. The editor's job-- according to Oshi No Ko is to keep them writing. So the mangaka may intend to shorten it, but the editor suggests that it's better longer.

I guess something that isn't talked much about now is how once a "shounen" anime adaptation is green-lit the mangaka is instructed to give the "date" in which the story must be concluded, this contrary to the topic of the video would be "artificially cutting the manga short", I wish someone could expand upon this topic, as I believe this has already been going on for some time.

I think you really overstated your third point while ignoring a MASSIVE problem. I would also guess that you're a bit too focused on Shounen Jump type manga which while important are a small and unrepresentative fraction of the industry, as Shounen Jump is both known to be especially competitive (and therefore demanding) and particularly popular. That being said, this latter statement is more of a "vibes" based guess so I may be entirely wrong. I am much more sure though that the "I wanted to do something else so I dropped the quality here" is a phenomenon that happens and may even happen a lot but I doubt it's noticeable most of the time, let alone enough to really make for your average bad ending. No there is a much bigger issue that many many manga suffer from: Cancelation. (note: not talking about the "woke mob" type of cancellation, but rather the manga getting axed, perhaps due to not being popular enough). I'd wager some 70-80% of bad endings in manga come from manga just getting axed and either ending abruptly with no warning or having to rush an ending over a handful of chapters at most at an unexpected time.

I clicked on this video thinking of a different definition of "Bad Ending". I'm not inclined to agree with popular opinion on whether something became bad or not. Especially Rent-A-Girlfriend, season 3 is peak fiction, it should be required viewing for anyone wants to know what a good Dramatic Anime looks like. It absolutely does make "Progress" because the show is about more then just when will the main couple get together. There are however example of my actually disliking something only for the very end. Take Romeo x Juliet for example, it's only the last 2 out of 24 episodes I have any problem, for 22 episodes it was 10/10 material.

There’s a reason jjba is a gigachad series, both in manga and anime form, araki makes a new story every arc to avoid burnout, and when he established himself enough, he moved to a monthly schedule, which made steel ball run literally only second best compared to berserk, and his endings basically always hit, even in the first part, which was pretty mid overall, and the ending of the third part was literally so good that literally everybody in the anime/manga community has seen the “oh? You’re approaching me?” Scene.

People are going to have to really get used to bad endings because honestly... 3 of the longest running mangas will probably have TERRIBLE endings (one piece, detective Conan, and berserk) simply because they've been going for so long no ending will be satisfying enough.

This video discounts that the top 100 is also composed of monthly series and that most of the "bad" endings typically tend to be a problem in shounen compared to other demographics. I could go on but to summarize, this is a pretty surface level way of viewing things

Why it shouldn't : Write the ending first then make the whole story around it.

It’s literally inherent to the medium, weekly-release stories are going to incentivize chapter-by-chapter hype and cliffhangers over long-term buildup. Telling a story that is both exciting week to week *and* has amazing long-term payoff requires either excellent planning and the commitment to stick with that plan no matter what (incredibly difficult given the nature of storytelling), or requires the author to simply be able to make stuff up on the spot that just *works* (requires incredible skill and talent). Oftentimes what will happen is the author will have a rough idea for how they want to end a story, but the story ends up deviating from their original plans so they either have to try to make something up that they didn’t plan for, or try to railroad the story back to the original ending, neither of which usually turns out well.

you should read Raw Hero if you want the Truth of what happened with Prison School's ending...... major hint here, Raw Hero literally starts with the publisher of Prison School getting bombed he never 'lost interesting', it was upper management sabotage. and the fact that he's currently collaborating with the BLUE LOCK mangaka means hes far from 'giving up on manga'.

This makes me appreciate Fujimotor even more

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but apparently, mangaka need to inform their editors with an estimation on how many chapters they need for their ending ahead of time so they can schedule new series. Oftentimes, they underestimate how many chapters they need and endings get rushed to shit.

2 most influential literature in Japan (Romance of Three Kingdom and Water Margin) have bad ending, yeah i think it tradition to have bad ending

This would probably also explain why so many western superhero comics have uneven quality stories. Since aside from reboots, for the most part series like Superman or X-men have been around for decades and don't have endings, and have gone through countless writers who write uneven quality stories during their time on the series.

I'm noticing Shonen mangas ending alot sooner. It seems Shonen jump is moving away from the 300+ chapter Shonen series. Both demon Slayer, death parade and jjk are under 300 chapters. I think they are seeing better results with shorter series.

something not mention here is that you also get pitful that as the manga quality start to drop the publisher seeing the trend will tell the writer/artist that it time to close up shop even if they are in a middle of an arc that does not was suppose to open up to better things. That tend to rush to an unplanned ending.
