Star Wars Battlefront 2 2017 review and retrospective. This will be a full video investigating SWBF 2 2017 in 2024 and seeing how it holds up and why is special. EA DICE Star Wars Battlefront 2 had many ups and downs, from the loot box controversy, to amazing iconic Star Wars heroes being added. To eventually Battlefront 2 cancelled. Unfortunately this meant Star Wars Battlefront 3 would also be cancelled around the same time. But we will discuss the gameplay, heroes, planets and more of EA Star Wars Battlefront 2 2017

I was there when the beta released, I was there when the game launched, I was there when Starfighter assault was canned, I was there when they announced Grevious and Obi-wan, I was there when Anakin could destroy a whole server with one attack, and I was there at it's end. BF2 (2005) is still one of my favorite games and I'm proud to say that 2017 is a worthy successor. I can only dream about what a BF3 would have been.

It's impressive how EA for some reason thought that after making one of the most impressive comebacks of the decade with Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 5, they still decided ego and refusing to just give up on BF2042, a game dead at launch, was more important than riding the wave of good press they were receiving.

If this game wasn’t free for PSN like 2 years ago I never would have known it got better over time. I heard about the loot boxes and was like “wow that must suck”. Never gave it another thought until I finally experienced the game and realized everything

Can't forget how the campaign completely blueballed all of us by having Iden switch sides to the rebels 1 hour in. They said we would get an Imperial perspective story (something we very rarely if ever see or get in Star Wars) and it ended up just being a rebel's story. So much potential not only lost to multiplayer content, but we forget how insincere and weird the campaign feels compared to what could have been.
This game is awesome. I played this last summer 24/7 one of the better multiplayer shooter games in years. Considerimg on going back

This game also got new life since they gave away the celebration edition on epic games and a lot of players incluiding me were brought to the game

@@TheJediMasterPro honestly I've played a bunch of star wars games that people consider to be the best of the best, jedi academy, outcast, Republic commando, KOTOR etc. They're all great, but you can't deny that battlefront 2 is literally the ultimate star wars experience. It's firstly the best looking star wars game, has so many different characters from 3 different eras of star wars and there's so much content in the game. 2 single player campaigns, as well as supremacy, attack/defend missions, battle scenarios, arcade and starfigher combat ALL playable offline with bots. Then online content, you have supremacy, capital supremacy, blast, ewok hunt, heroes vs villains, hero starfighter battles, co-op, and way more. It's literally the definitive star wars game.

The maps and cool moments were UNMATCHED!
I really miss the body guard system of BF 2017, when the Emperor spawned you could play as a Royal Guard etc etc , that was the best !

At launch the original trilogy had the most content but ironically by the end of support it had been neglected as they never added capital ships to supremacy, or a fourth reinforcement troop for the empire and rebellion.

I love your take on 2017 BF2. The original will always have a special place but this game in 2024 is SO good! Multiple hero choices in matches, regular troops feel fun and powerful, sounds and lights looks great, maps look great.. So much greatness and could have been more
Co-op / single player “missions” mode (basically pve galactic assault) is so under rated. It was both so good for xp and chill and laid back. I played it more than anything else in the game
I got back into the game recently as well, I’ve been playing the game pretty much since launch and was there through everything, I think it’s safe to say playing this game on console and pc through the years has become one of my favourite gaming experiences ever
Most casual fun I had playing Battlefront 2 since Battlefield 3. I would jump back on its prime any day.

This game, is still special to me. I was there when the originals were released. I liked the remake and it was cool. Then this came out. It was fun. I still enjoy it against bots.
Since playing the beta I knew the game would be fun af, glad I bought it and stuck by it
This one of those games where you come back to it for two weeks, play 80 hours of it, have it positive in your mind for the next year, then come back again
I feel like this game is like cyberpunk 2077. The launch was so bad that when they fixed the game no one would give it the chance it deserved, and a lot of people missed a great game

We really did go through it during this game's life cycle. I'm glad I got to experience all of it as it was being updated, the hype for all the improvements to this game was so damn real.
My favorite game no question 🙌🏻 (yeah I’m not a hardcore gamer). The maps, the heroes, the reinforcements .. this game is fantastic, such a shame they wasted this huge potential, something I will never forgive EA
Thank you so much. After the classic packs were announced the amount of slander this version got was CRAZY. Both are great in their own rights. Its like comparing Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Raging Blast 2.

There's a few things I wanted them to release before they stopped supporting the game, such as more co-op based modes and of course a Galactic Conquest mode. It helps to have other mode types that aren't strictly PVP based. Especially like a Duel mode where you and a friend can fight each other in private mode. Similar to Heroes v Villains mode, but just between two people, in a private mode.

One thing you missed is how great the original score for the game is. As a composer and a long time appreciator of the Legendary John Williams scores for star wars I can say that Gordy Haab's music for the battlefront II game is on par with JW. The orchestrations, the motifs, the orchestral textures. It's so satisfying to listen to! It's so memorable to me and possibly my favorite game score.
Now that the OG Battlefront Games are re-releasing on all Modern Platforms with all DLC's, and Online Support, I'd say it's more likely we get the OG Battlefront 3(if the files still exist and they can find a competent Developer to finish it)before a Dice Battlefront 3, or another Reboot.

This game was so incomplete, so many planets missing like Coruscant, Utapau, Mustafar, etc, heroes like Ventress, Ahsoka, Windu, Jango, etc, such a shame, i just hope if a BF3 is made in the future, it should be by another company

I would've loved if this game had mixed factions. I think the most balanced era is probably the clone wars with regards to reinforcements.
Edit: By mixed faction, I also mean skins and cosmetics with the infantry because in my opinion, I think its a shame that some of the cooler skins are only limited to their era and where they take place on the timeline.
I remember getting back from school and finding the game in my letter box on release date. Best day of my childhood.
I like the queue idea you suggested, I’d mix it in with the current system and have it to where- You queue but you aren’t placed in any specific order, you’re just queued to play a Hero character. Now, the way you get “Priority Pick” is by participating and racking up those points, the game will recognize you’ve been doing the most and offer you the pick of the Hero character which you can either accept or pass on. IF more than one person just so happen to rack up the same amount of points/participation score the game will automatically do a lottery pick and offer the Hero character to that player. After that player uses a Hero character they’re locked out of it and the system restarts again for the rest of the lobby. Idk.
Galactic Conquest Large Scale Multiplayer would be so good
11:17 Yeah, this is basically the system in old bf2 2005. randomly, after racking up a bunch of the kills (i think it was if you were at the current top of the leaderboard ingame) it would give you a notification if you wanted to play as the hero/villian. i feel they could improve it to what you said, where it would put you in a queue and let you know when that character is playable
While true the original battlefront 2 is still the way better game
On a triple xp day it literally only takes a few hours to max out a hero. I did rey from level 3 to 26 yesterday in coop. So i think its not taking to long at all. quite perfect honestly, did not feel grindy just pure fun for me mostly
It’s a depressing time for starwars fans right now.
Queue would have been a horrible thing. Imagine going off as a clone commando and getting pulled out because you queued like 15-20 minutes ago. Just lower the timer to force people back into action, there are plenty of other fun units and vehicles to use. As for galactic conquest, I really wish they added this. So many galactic assault maps would have been easily implemented into this gamemode and worked well.

Man I played this game from the moment it launched to its last update. I play it every now and then too. But I remember the hype on the community when the clone wars era was announced to be introduced. It was so fire.
Almost 4 years since support ended and I'm still here watching videos like this being sad at what all we missed on. God I'd give anything (or pay anything take notes disney) for this game or one like it to come back and stick around as a live service game
The modding scene with this game is crazily active, so the game stays feeling fresh for a lot longer

BF2 2017 had some of the highest highs and the lowest of lows
You don't need a trilogy of Battlefront games. Just give us one solid game that includes a decent amount of starter content and modes. Then over time add characters, add maps at a cost of a seasonal pass to support the devs. Just aslong as there is enough content when purchasing the base game.

11:33 I like this idea it's similar to the old battlefront 2 where it says you can't play as a hero do you want to y/n? I also think if battlefront 3 someone comes back, that before a match begins a randomizes picks 4 or 6 heroes per side and those are the options for that match because with so many fan favourite characters you can't just have them all in one match.
When i first downloaded this game about 2 years ago i played heros versus villains and then promptly decided to not play the game. But a few months ago i decided to retry it and ive played the game almost every day since.
I was there since the beta. It's tragic how this game went, such potential. It really is fun.

If they ever do a new game there needs to be a respawn time on the aircraft. Aircraft really don’t have much of a chance to contribute to the team on the ground after they clear out the enemy aircraft in this game since new ones will spawn back in pretty much instantly

Loot boxes were blown out of proportion lol. Maxed every hero at 40 and had every card maxed with not that much play time with crafting parts

I still play this game to this day. There's really nothing else like it. Can't stop thinking, and dreaming about what it could have been.
I think if they reboot it again, it should only be one huge, expansive title with live service. To ensure that things don't go to ruin with planning and such, they need to just ditch the trilogy format and put all their efforts towards one title. No training wheel like they've done with the first game, no loot boxes, just put the best product they can out there for one title.
Personally I loved the fact that they added unique side characters as heroes in Battlefront (2015). It adds to the charm and uniqueness of the game. Nein and Dengar will probably never be in another Battlefront game. I think we can all agree the more characters we can play as in these games the better.
I’m almost 100% sure that one day there will be another multiplayer Star Wars action game but it won’t be Battlefront.

I'm always sad my 2 fave modes blast and Starfighter are buried deep in the menus and rarely have enough players to start a match.
Well, considering how the Star Wass Battlefront: Classic Collection, which means that the original games are coming back in one collection, Battlefront is going to be VERY POPULAR once again. Also, that collection is coming out in two weeks, I’ll (HOPEFULLY) pre-order it two days from release of my Mom lets me. Oh, I should also mention that ALL of the DLC from the XBox version is coming to ALL consoles, AND there’s going to be a 64 multiplayer mode that is being revived in those games.
If memory serves, this was the game that resulted in an EA representative being called to appear in a Parliamentary Select Committee, wherein they used the now infamous term "Surprise Mechanics". XD
The game was fun and the graphics were really good and i feel like it rare to find a game have good graphics and be fun at the same time.
2010 to 2017 were my favorite times for online gaming because over every online game was fun but 2017 it started to push towards the overpriced skins and let content and that one reason I don’t play that many newer games

Man this video came out at a good time. Its going to be interesting to see people's opinion of the DICE games after the classic collection comes out. I personally like battlefront 2 (2017), i still prefer the og battlefront II. EA battlefront 2 does stuff thay just kinda disappoints me. What i dont like are the vichles, gun play, and heroes. Heroes and viechle being "killstreak" in the menu that you can only get to if you die is kinda dumb. Just put the viechles on the map, and give the hero to the best player in the lobby or at random. And maybe im just bad at the game but i find it so difficult to actually damage enemies. Half the time my shots just go around them. Overall i like battlefront 2, it just does stuff differently for no good reason that was never a problem in the og battlefront II. I hope if DICE makes a battlefront 3 they combine aspects from both games to make a unique experience

Ea stopping content for battlefront 2 and battlefield 5 due to their hights is something i never will understand, both could be running by now still. There are so many possibilitys on how to roll out more content like season wise. They could have given us seasons for every episode like a episode 1 season with a new hooded skin for maul, a episode 1 skin for obi wan and finally qui gon as new hero with maybe naboo plains and gungans as new units and will all new series and movies coming out it literally would have infinite content

Alternative solution to the hero queue: add more heroes so everyone can play different hero's at the same time, and have enough variety so they can get someone they like

Im glad the original team behind this game is not around anymore. Maybe when new devs create a Battlefront 3 they'll actually make a game that is faithful to its Battlefield roots instead of overly focusing on jedi heroes and ignoring the infantry combat.
Just go play the real battlefront III with xenia, even has mods.
As someone who loved Star Wars Battlefront 1 (from 2015) I in a way always thought the exact opposite way about it (although despite that un the end coming to a somewhat similar result as you in parts).
To me one of the biggest mistakes they made with the 2017 game was giving up the unique and creative way of customizing the troopers capabilities and weapons in Star Wars Battlefront 1 for a Battlefield clone style of 'infantry trooper' class system (which doesn't even have much resemblance to the movie originals).
As much as I love the game nontheless, it was never nearly as good and balanced as the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront 1 became in the end after it's numerous updates.
It's (like you similarly recognized in your own way) just way too much of a 'Battlefield Star Wars Edition' game instead of being a true sequel to the much more unique first 2015 game. Instead of making it a 'Battlefield clone' it could and should have much rather been a more stand alone alternative (like the first game was) with fewer similarities to the battlefield games, not more.
On top of that, all of the best game modes and especially all of the best maps SW Battlefront 2 has to offer are all more or less remastered copies of SW Battlefront1 content.
The mechanics of the starfighters are indeed much better, but the unbalanced and sometimes outright broken missions make playing starfighters somewhat less fun in the end.
I was always really hoping a Star Wars Battlefront 3 game could go somewhat back towards the style and mechanics of the first game again but with new content.
Seems like EA will not bring out a 3rd game though, so maybe in the end it's just good that some other game developer may have a chance at doing an all new remake, with better designed maps, better and more balanced missions and game modes, more balanced weapons, better balanced heroes and reinforcements etc.
Having to play strike as a rebel with utterly harmless (big or small) furry 'teddies' versus nearly over powered death troopers as enforcements is and always has been rather nonsensical, really, and it just once more demonstrates 'rather poor and somewhat lazy' game development overall (especially when compared to the 2015 game).
Despite all these aspects and the vast amount of cheaters running around in the game on PC it still is is a lot of fun to play, of course.
But that doesn't change the fact that it could and should have been so much better had it only been more like the first game from 2015 instead of upgrading it with recycled 2015 maps.
@@tomwoggle9411 What are you on about? Battlefront 2015 is NOTHING like the original Battlefront games, its so obviously more inspired by COD's less teamwork oriented gameplay and customization. Its true that Battlefront 2 (2017) is closer to Battlefield's style of gameplay, but it's also far more shallow and less dynamic than games like Battlefield 4 or Battlefield 1. This is why a hypothetical Battlefront 3 needs to be CLOSER to the Battlefield games. It needs better class customization, more weapons and gadgets, cooperative vehicles, and less emphasis on shitty Overwatch styled jedi characters.
All my data for swbf 2017 was lost. Still haven’t gotten it back. 1000s of hours. I’ll never play again until a new game comes out.
