What a blast being a Star Wars fan at the time during the 6th generation where we got some of the best Star Wars games ever. These Battlefront games were the best and I still remember playing them for hours on end on Xbox Live.
I remember going on the original Star Wars Battlefront 1 website and it had the cool blue font/background that the main menu in Battlefront 1 has and the storm trooper that was on the game cover would pop up and fire his blaster a few times. And in the background the Imperial March would play. You could search for descriptions of the different classes in the factions and the main menu had a countdown of days until launch. The nostalgia is real.
One thing that people don’t really talk about is Battlefront 2’s “ranking system”. You start off as a private and once you hit mix rank you can command up to I think 3 different soldiers at once. Only reason to get the collection on PC is for Battlefront (1) matchmaking and the visual console menu for Battlefront 2 because the PC port doesn't have the movie clips playing in the background - which isn't a real reason to buy, but it is great to see again. The difference between this and the previous re-releases is that this is the two games bundled together at roughly $20 each, so you HAVE to pay the $40 even if you only wanted to play one of them - as well the restored content and matchmaking which obviously needs to be fixed ASAP but they did just launch this and I'm having a blast playing the Battlefront 2 campaign again. Which plays like absolute shit on the 2005 release on PC. The re-releases are pretty much there for and targeted at console users who just want a blast from the past with optional couch-op modes and hopefully fixed servers in the future.
Great games! The “Classics” designation makes me feel old, but it’s accurate for these titles. That said, I’ve seen reporting that the remake’s multiplayer servers are in shambles. Really disappointed that the effort wasn’t invested to really show off these prestigious games!

My brother and I rented this game one day and absolutely loved it. Would rent it as often as possible then when 2 came out, we got our mom to get it for us.
I was introduced to Battlefront in like 05' when I was 10 when my mate at the time gave me a PS2 demo disc that had a few games on it and Battlefront was one of the games. You could only play one round of GC and it was on the forest moon of Endor but man did I play that to death.
Had to pull out my PS2 OG copy. The back is the same except for the middle text. Mine says: “Fight as a soldier in the front lines where every weapon and vehicle you see is yours. Take the Empire head on or crush the Rebellion - by yourself or with an army behind you!” Interesting that that is what they had changed for the platinum hits, and typo’d no less Edit: also no learn more about battlefront 2 of course
Great Video, Nice to hear the game talked about from an O.G. Player. Oh the many many hours I spent playing these games. Would Love to revisit myself, but I am one of those Dinosaurs who if there is No Physical Disc, they get No Dollars form me. Yes, a Battlefront retrospective would be awesome, DO IT!
Had one pre-order with a scout trooper action figure as the pre buy bonus. Good times. Yes i used hint lines when it could be charged to the phone line and not cc. I got a few strategy guides that way....and mowed the lawn for a long time.
It's a shame Dice didn't simply follow the formula with their games. Give me a battlefront packed with content like og battlefront 2 especially galactic conquest and I'm down to shill 100$ for it.
@@zaidabraham7310missing a lot more than that… just two easy examples are no multi-passenger vehicles and vehicles exploding when you exit them. If you would actually make a comparison chart and compare similarities that aren’t as deep as a puddle; you’ll find that the only real similarity between the classics and reboots is the hero vs villains mode.
Never owned Xbox so have been unaware of this until the recent releases on switch, interested in checking them out but seems like heavy online focus which isn’t really my jam tbh. Keep the videos flowing
My cousin and i play bf2 together. We usually play as the clones. The "cheat" is just only using garrisons and not unlocking troops, because you unlocking them unlocks them for the enemy. To make it harder we say each land battle we have to unlock someone and we only can get a bonus after a space battle
I love these (and other multiplayer games of this era) because it’s just pick up and play. You can hop in after a long break and have fun, or hop in and play for like 20 minutes and have fun. There’s no overly long path of unlocks, no bonus cards you have to equip, no weapons you have to upgrade, no loot boxes or battle passes. The game is the game every time you log in and that simplicity is part of what makes it so great.
I do think BF2 is the better game but the battles in BF1 always felt bigger for some reason. BF1 is also harder which I like, I can actually lose matches against the AI which almost never happens in BF2.
When i was kid i would play one game on my dad's ps2 and that was lego star wars 2. Then one day i decided to look through my dads disc collection and there it was the first battlefront and one of the first few games i would ever play.
What are the good things from the modern battlefronts in your opinion? I would only bring the customization and battle point system for heroes and reinforcements only. I don’t like the lightsaber combat or gunplay from any battlefront. Production quality like graphics, sound design, etc; should already be there from a game releasing in 2024 and beyond.
Needs some serious network AND main game fixes. So far, I've had my immersion broken by AI not being as smart as it was on the original game, random crashes, noises glitching out and becoming bass boosted, noises playing with the wrong cues, lack of singleplayer post mission cutscenes (aswell as the cutscenes that are in are super compressed and lagged), BF1 being for the most part under worked on, glitched player models (mainly the rocket trooper), etc.
100% worth buying on console. 0% worth buying on PC. It’s Battlefront classic, it’s perfect in that regard… but online is a mess, don’t even touch online.
As someone who's played both these games for countless hours back then, I must say: They were the sh*t! Damn near had everything one could ask for in a Star Wars multiplayer game! Really hope Aspyr fixes the online soon.
I agree on the prequels as that’s the Star Wars that I grew up on. That being said, I’d like to share my thoughts on this retroactive look at them. I don’t think people changed their minds. I think when the films came out, critics and people who wrote websites and made memes were kids of the 70s and 80s. People who grew up on the OG Star Wars. Whereas now, those of us writing articles and making videos grew up on the prequels. I just think you’re seeing the difference in a new generation and its mindset taking over.
@@johnnyknadler1157 honestly, I’ve already seen it. Comments on videos from people saying “the sequels weren’t that bad” and videos about the best parts of the sequel series. But yes…yes they were😂
There was a mod for Battlefield 1942 called Galactic Conquest that released a year or two before Star Wars Battlefront, and while Battlefront was a more polished take on the mod, it felt more limited and obviously the resolution and quality lowered to meet console standards. Between Jedi Academy with all the unique mods (I remember the security risks) and Galactic Conquest, Battlefront didn't really give PC gamers anything we didn't already have. It did get console gamers one of their first tastes at a Conquest Battlefield-esque mode with vehicles though.
Played bf2 first and later picked up bf1 both great games. Bf2 is definitely better but the og is still fun to play. Had so much fun playing the bf2 campaign with my bro.
The multiplayer on the classic edition is a huge headache, it’s so laggy and it’s like enemy’s don’t have a hit box sometimes. Hope they fix it fast or this game will die.
That's weird I thought the Battlefront 1 maps were bigger and more fun to play. Rhen Var Harbor and Citadel, Kashyyyk Docks, and Mos Eisley Dune Sea are a few that are the best.
Playing the campaigns and the games are fine. Haven't had a single problem. I haven't played online yet except for one Hero Assault match that I had to leave because of the lag but I'm not expecting the online to be much of an improvement over the PS2 servers. Hoping they add a private match filter though because I feel like the game would run and feel a lot better online if you didn't have people from various places trying to connect to you without any real matchmaking. Personally I only really want to play with a few friends anyways. Everyone knows the hardcore Battlefront community is on PC anyways. But singleplayer so far has been flawless.
Absolutely fuckin not I cannot believe the shit I’m reading for this game. It’s the same damn game, if you want to play Battlefront 2 Classic and you have no other way, this is a totally acceptable and enjoyable way to play the game. I would know, I bought it, I’ve played it, and people are wildly over exaggerating the shortcomings of this game. In short, minor graphical issues and the online play is laggy. If those 2 things won’t bother you, it’s a good game, simple as that.
Unfortunately TCC is a mess, the amount of multiplayer issues is expected but the singleplayer and base game issues? There should be little to non wtf. I've luckily had a ps2 to use to compare the OG's and this. So far the ps2 version wins.
I was there & excited for BF2, I was subscribed to PSM for updates on release dates; but still, the prequels are poorly structured from a film/storytelling standpoint with absolutely dog dropping lines. Once edited properly, the prequel films have a worthy story for a film. Anyways, prequels delivered with cool/new expansive worlds & heroes to love regardless of the boring fake unneeded political scenes. With that understanding, of course SW fans that love shooters wanted to play BF2. Liking the prequel movies was irrelevant & liking Starwars was secondary. Liking SWBF1 was first & awaiting the sequel game with more features, like space & heroes, was much appreciated. My shenanigans of a mirror disagreement aside, great video! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the game.
@paradox4780 genuinely no you can't bind them on console, you can remap some of them but not all and the worst ones you can't change. and they are the worst control scheme I've ever had to use. Literally what
@paradox4780 here just a couple examples without the controller in front of me... ads is mapped to left thumsbstick. Right trigger is shoot left trigger is secondary( usually grenades) there is no sprint button at all, there s bunch more but those are the worst. And remember there are limitations to how you can rebind. Some buttons cant be moved ro where you want rhem and some buttons are completely off limits to change at all. I played the originals at their launch but that was 20 years ago. To refine the control scheme would've been a simple thing. AND THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT MULTI PLAYER IS COMPLETELY BROKEN. 64 PLAYERS ONLY 100 TICKETS TO RESPAWN. THATS ABOUT 2 KILLS PER PLAYER AT THAT NUMBER
@nunyabizness6376 clicking the left stick is sprint. Clicking the right is ADS. I get it if it's not what you're used to but it's a really easy transition, like not at all weird to click the stick you're aiming with to aim in further. And yeah it's sad multi-player isn't working but there's so much more to this package.

These games are my childhood feels like how gta trilogy was fumbled.
Mine says:
“Fight as a soldier in the front lines where every weapon and vehicle you see is yours. Take the Empire head on or crush the Rebellion - by yourself or with an army behind you!”
Interesting that that is what they had changed for the platinum hits, and typo’d no less
Edit: also no learn more about battlefront 2 of course
Great Video, Nice to hear the game talked about from an O.G. Player. Oh the many many hours I spent playing these games. Would Love to revisit myself, but I am one of those Dinosaurs who if there is No Physical Disc, they get No Dollars form me. Yes, a Battlefront retrospective would be awesome, DO IT!
Had one pre-order with a scout trooper action figure as the pre buy bonus. Good times.
Yes i used hint lines when it could be charged to the phone line and not cc. I got a few strategy guides that way....and mowed the lawn for a long time.
Great video as always Matty and lock.
It's a shame Dice didn't simply follow the formula with their games. Give me a battlefront packed with content like og battlefront 2 especially galactic conquest and I'm down to shill 100$ for it.
U forgot who runs dice
If they literally just made the exact same Battlefront 2 in 2024, it would blow everything out of the water
DICE's Battlefront 2 after all the updates is very good. Just missing galactic conquest.
@@ISGAMINGFORNERDSdice makes the gameplay decisions, not EA. EA decided how the microtransactions would be added
First time I ever saw the game was on a bonus dvd that came with a build your own lightsaber kit my parents got me for Christmas in like 2004
I do think BF2 is the better game but the battles in BF1 always felt bigger for some reason. BF1 is also harder which I like, I can actually lose matches against the AI which almost never happens in BF2.
MATTY IN THE PHASE 2 CLONE ARMOR GOES HARDDD!!!
Phase 2 bozo
When i was kid i would play one game on my dad's ps2 and that was lego star wars 2. Then one day i decided to look through my dads disc collection and there it was the first battlefront and one of the first few games i would ever play.
I share the same thoughts battlefront 2 and republic Commandos going up and was 8 when I saw episode 3 in the theaters golden times
It’s Amazing been playing all day love it!
Star Wars Battlefront 2 Is The Best Star Wars Game!
It's definitely underrated
They took off the inverted feature in the control section after an early morning update on the first day release
Love these games! The battlefront 2 EA version is absolutely fire!!!
Yea played that latest one and is good
@RippaRat no theyre not.
@@RippaRat try playing blast….i get whooped out by sweats on the daily in that
@RippaRat been playing galactic assault and HvV., with GA having 40 player games. Are you on a US time zone
I hope one day we have a Star Wars FPS that has the best of both classic Battlefront and modern Battlefront
@paulallen2680 customization and battle points
I've always dreamed of a Galatic Conquest Online war.
Just imagine 64 people fighting in a Tug of war campaign!
Lord of the rings conquest for th Xbox 360 was amazing as well
Probably a good thing you’re on vacation. Because this game needs some serious networking fixes.
Mine keeps crashing. I've gone back to bf 2 2017
Mine on Nintendo Switch is working fine so far.
It's not call of duty I haven't played online yet ps2 didn't have online neither
I just play the original xbox version on series X. Way better experience that way
100% worth buying on console. 0% worth buying on PC.
It’s Battlefront classic, it’s perfect in that regard… but online is a mess, don’t even touch online.
Yooooo I found games at Sears wayyy back in the day with my dad 🤣
So if we follow that pattern, in the future it will be people who grew up on the sequels
@@johnnyknadler1157 honestly, I’ve already seen it.
Comments on videos from people saying “the sequels weren’t that bad” and videos about the best parts of the sequel series.
But yes…yes they were😂
@@michaeldrake798 didn’t people use to think the prequels were bad?
BF2 weapons would get buffed at a certain point in kill streaks with it, the pistol was insane
Battlefront 1 has MUCH MUCH better maps than 2. Change my mind.
I mainly bought it for the campaign, so I haven’t experienced any bugs yet
I have battlefront 2 on Xbox one already I don’t really play online should I get this is there extra content ?
Galactic conquest with inspiration from helldivers 2 would be sick af for battlefront 3
Maybe for online, I don’t want that for offline galactic conquest
Finally someone with good sense who understands Episode III is the best of the Saga.
I still pop the 2nd one in from time to time still a great time i never played online though
Another impeccable timing
I remember playing and loving the first and when i found the 2nd at eb games i was like: THERES A SECOND PLEASE BUY THIS DAD XD
My copy of Battlefront 2 Platinum has the same misprint lol
I remember picking up battlefront 2 used and when i got home it had the battlefront 1 disc in it...
Played bf2 first and later picked up bf1 both great games. Bf2 is definitely better but the og is still fun to play. Had so much fun playing the bf2 campaign with my bro.
That missing 'e' saved them a fraction of a penny on each copy. George Lucas: always the penny pincher.
😂😭didn’t know you had another RUclips channel
I'm 100% with ya Matty revenge of the sith is the best.....as soon as I saw a double lightsaber I was a fan of prequels
Battlefront 1 was the first game I played with Camera controls
8:21 it still is only two trilogies..... and one trilogy of fanfiction.
Lmao I mean….
Galactic conquest was amazing!!!
Kevduit ahhh thumbnail
Would love to see a republic commando video
Let’s go!!!!
my bf2 copy on ps2 had an ad for bf3 in its manual, sad how poorly it aged
Of course
Why do all matches end in 5 minutes?
The Star Wars Battlefront 2 remake is amazing.
The multiplayer on the classic edition is a huge headache, it’s so laggy and it’s like enemy’s don’t have a hit box sometimes. Hope they fix it fast or this game will die.
Dang my man really called the clones stormtroopers 14:20
You realize they are both at the Sametime . Both are accurate and correct
That's weird I thought the Battlefront 1 maps were bigger and more fun to play. Rhen Var Harbor and Citadel, Kashyyyk Docks, and Mos Eisley Dune Sea are a few that are the best.
Do not buy the collection. Wait until it gets fixed. I wasted 30$ on this heap of absolute garbage. Does the OG titles dirty.
It ain't the developers fault it's the piss poor company who ported it...
Plays fine on xbox 😂
@@Imperium_protector exactly
I've luckily had a ps2 to use to compare the OG's and this. So far the ps2 version wins.
My favorite games of all time of course it's good
10:06 stormtrooper, scout trooper, dark trooper, ewok burger, cheese burger.
I don’t see any problems when I’m playing on my switch OLED I love ot
It's really disappointing that they didn't tweak the archaic control schemes
R u drunk it's not tank controls? And you can bind whatever inputs you want? Genuinely whut
@paradox4780 genuinely no you can't bind them on console, you can remap some of them but not all and the worst ones you can't change. and they are the worst control scheme I've ever had to use. Literally what
@nunyabizness6376 flight controls? What about aiming, shooting and moving is so terrible? I'm actually just confused
Yes it is!
Third grade me was living my best life
I wish i could aim with mouse 2 :/
And the best part of those games was there was no loot boxes and micro transactions. We got a lot of content on one disc.
Battlefront 1 > Battlefront 2
💯💯
