Following a disastrous PC port, predictable villain, and a heavily disputed vehicular combat system: Arkham Knight has earned itself the title of the "trilogy's" biggest misfire. I never have felt that way, but time has been kind to this game thanks to the likes of Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. Let's return to this misunderstood Batman game and break down why it's not what people think it is.

What kinda music do you like sir
Arkham Knight was never bad. Garbage video
I honestly love this game, yeah, the batmobile is WAY overused but the game is still really fun and it still looks absolutely incredible to boot, it is a gorgeous game and an absolute marvel :)
I agree completely
Here's a crazy fact, the % you use it throughout the game, is less than 20%
It’s actually DC
@@DrShrimpPuertoRicoMD i know haha
@@varisrevolver4061 RIGHT!!! Its just the same parroted response 😂
I honestly don't remember people finding this game "bad". Almost all the reviews I saw called it a masterpiece.
👍
Thought it was just me like I never heard anyone call this game bad
me too
GodzillaMendoza does an excellent job pointing out what’s wrong with this story. My biggest complaint was he drank the damn cure at the end of city and it meant nothing at all
@@ItsReallyJColeArkham Knight is rehashed drama and missed potential.
Ummm what? Arkham knight looks better than probably 95 percent of games nowadays it was never bad. Is the story pretty predictable? Of course. Did the batmobile combat overstay it’s welcome? Yes. But the gameplay is smooth as but, incredible voice acting, and the game looks BEAUTIFUL.
Tell me about it, I’ve replayed it last year a little before getting a PS5, and lets just say I wasn’t very impressed by Deathloop and Returnal on the graphics department
@@lukasaraujo3662 I just wish Jason Todd went all Garth Ennis Punisher on Joker and everybody that assisted Joker
It’s probably the worst of the trilogy he’s just feeding into that. You know he just does those titles to make people be like, “hol up what did he say?!” Lol
He even started the video talking about how people where bashing it like no one was talking trash about this game 😂 now the PC and the over stayed Batmobile stuff yes but no one not a single person said this game was bad even when it 1st came out other then those 2 issues I heard nothing but praise even angryjoe said in a review so long as you dont buy it on pc the game is phenomenal its actually one of the few games I got when I 1st got my ps4 and i can still pop that game in to this day and enjoy every minute of it 🤷
I wasn't plugged into gaming media back in 2015, so finding out this game wasn't well received baffled me. Loved this game from the get go and have replayed it the most out of the Arkham series.
One thing that annoys me is because the batmobile was such a focus, they had to make the streets abnormally huge and wide. Makes the city feel less real and less claustrophobic. I liked the tight alleyways and streets of City much better. Could have done without the batmobile completely tbh.
After the dumpster fire of Gotham knights, I think everyone realized how harsh they were on Arkham knight
I got Gotham Knights about a month ago and it’s pretty awesome. How is it a dumpster fire?
I will give that credit for giving Arkham Knight and Arkham Origins the respect they deserve.
@@AlfredFJones1776honestly I may have exaggerated a bit, but when you compare it to Arkham knight, you can tell that it doesn’t quite live up to expectations. For example graphically it looks worse, gameplay can feel boring or mundane, but the story is decent at least
@@AlfredFJones1776c it was designed to be a live service game with battlepass and it shows. It is nothing compared to arkham games
Gotham knights is a good game with fun villains and boss fights. Have you played the game??
It’s not bad and very replayable. Love the different Batmobiles you can choose.
Annoying tanks make it unreplayable
@@zachlance6301they really don’t, they are easy to kill and you don’t have to fight most of them
@@blipsauce1143it’s not that it’s the amount of times your in it and have to use it.
I think what hurt AK was the over-reliance on the Batmobile and Joker. The car itself is fine, and if there were alternate ways to doing the related sidequests that the player could unlock then it wouldn't have been an issue. Joker is a different issue, because his involvement is heavily reliant on retcons.
1. The Joker Infected. In Arkham City, when Oracle confirms that hundreds were infected from transfusions tainted with Joker's blood and would die within hours. This happens while Batman is leaving Wonder City, so the player can't miss it. The HQR DLC later confirms those people were cured, even adding a line about "known victims" as set up for the Joker Infected. Knight then says that the tainted blood was recovered, that Batman is still infected, and only four other people were exposed with no explanation for why they didn't die. A line explaining how Batman is still infected comes from the Hallucination!Joker while in free roam, so it's very easy to miss that plot detail. In fact, this game would've been better it dropped the entire Joker Infected subplot and just let us have Robin helping us during Free Roam instead of one time in the story and the challenge maps.
2. Retconning Batman's infection was pointless as once Batman's exposed to Fear Toxin, all the Hallucination!Joker scenes could've been attributed to the toxin alone. Even the subplot about Joker taking over Batman's mind could've been done differently. In Asylum, we briefly play as Joker in the third Scarecrow sequence and, in City, Strange suggests Batman is hiding a "true self" beneath his persona. Both games say that Batman is burying powerful, dark emotions. Even the comics have established that Batman has a back-up personality called the "Batman of Zurr En Arr." There is more then enough precedence to just make the Hallucination!Joker a split personality, born of those suppressed feelings taking shape and breaking free thanks to the Fear Toxin preying on Batman's fears and other issues. For me personally, and others I'm sure, I hate this retcon because it cheated us of our victory of curing Batman in Arkham City, that now this says that he was never cured, and that the plot point of "Batman needs to cure himself" was still in play when it didn't need to be done again and felt lazy as a result.
3. Predictable as it would've been, Ra's Al Ghul should've been the Arkham Knight, driven to revenge against Batman over the loss of his daughter. By making Jason Todd the Arkham Knight, driven to revenge against Batman after being tortured by Joker, the story adds an uncomfortable revelation: that even though the game treats the whole night as the unavoidable result of Batman's war on crime, it might've been avoided if Batman killed the Joker before the events of Arkham Asylum. This could've been acknowledged, with Batman realizing that he could've tried moving Gotham's insane to a different facility than Arkham Asylum and change the status quo while keeping to his moral code.
Arkham Knight has the best gameplay in the series, with only a few changes from being perfect. I like this game, but the story is easily the weakest, and it keeps me from playing more often.
Arkham Knight was never bad. It just had too many batmobile segments.
And really really bad/boring boss fights
My problem was always that I loved the gameplay, but felt there were too many puzzles involving the Batmobile and tank battles throughout the story. 2/3 twisted metal matches with the titular villains as boss battles (plus death stroke being one as well) is the epitome of my issues with the game.
Exactly this. This killed my vibe. I can’t explain how many times I’ve deleted and redownloaded the game only to get so frustrated with being forced to use the Batmobile with everything and then proceed to delete again.
@@NGGamer-nb6bu I am 74% completed the game as of right now, It has taken 7 years of installing loving the game, only to be stuck going "this is dumb...this is dumb..." at a Batmobile section. I just finished doing "Tank stealth" against the Arkham Knight and playing literal Cat and Mouse...in the Batmobile. it gets so dumb.
@@jimwatson1013I can appreciate the scope of this game, and the sheer magnitude of variety. It's a technical marvel in so many ways.
However... like the examples you mentioned, some of it just really missed the mark. Knight is my least replayable Arkham game. I even prefer Origins, because that doesn't come with the frustrations found in Knight.
@@NGGamer-nb6bubro I get the Batmobile is annoying but it’s not THAT bad lol
Arkham Knight is not bad at all it’s a great and beautiful game. It’s just the weakest of the trilogy story wise but gameplay wise it’s the best just the Batmobile was overused. But I loved it the first time I played it and the last time I replayed it.
I remember my main issue with this game was the Batmobile while in combat mode. Yes it was cool and plays very well but it became so repetitive. They made so many mandatory missions involving combat mode with the Batmobile and I got sick of it. So much so that I always choose Arkham Asylum or Arkham City over this
Feel the same about the Game like you...
I personally love everything about knight, and it’s my favorite of the series.
My gripe is and always has been the lack of boss fight quality like we had in Asylum and especially City. Most boss fights being tank fights should be a crime. Everything else was fine to great, but the boss fights bothered me.
Batman Arkham knight is phenomenal game! It's 8 years old and still looks amazing and the open world is so much fun to explore. Yeah the batmobile gets a little tedious and you can see the story twist from a mile away but it's one of my favorite games. I remember playing it for 16 hours straight the week it came out.
The tanks became tedious after a while especially the last tank that hunts you down but it was the usage of the batmobile in some of the riddler challenges that really pissed me off. Other than that though, a brilliant game & still better than majority of the games that came out this year.
The heavy reliance on the games physics not ruining you during tricky parts has frustrated me to no end.
In Arkham Knight the star is not Batman but the Batmobile. So much so that you had to all the challenges in it. Ridiculous.
Honestly at launch, I was so taken back by how integral the Batmobile is to the game, that I bounced off of it. I went back about 4 years later and gave it another chance only to realize that I was wrong and that even though it could be used a little less, the Batmobile is actually awesome and it’s a great game. Still one of the best looking too. Crazy that it ran on a base ps4z
Wasn't people's problem with the batmobile that instead of typical hand to hand combat against bosses like red hood or desthstroke it was a tank boss fight?
It’s actually amazing. They just missed so many opportunities with various characters like deathstroke.
I view the Arkham trilogy as a look into what would the end of Batman's career look like and I love that approach cuz they did it so well and in a satisfying way. My only gripe is that some boss fights shouldve been more unique, like why are we fighting Deathstroke in a tank? At least give us a hand to hand fight in addition to the tank fight.
It’s my favorite of the entire Arkham series. I know a lot of people complained about the bat mobile but I mean I think the reason they had so much of it in the game was because people had been hounding them for years about it. Ever since the first game people were like this is dope but give us the bat mobile so they finally gave it to us but when they did all the sudden people went from begging for it to oh now this is too much batmobile lol. There really isn’t that many tank sections it’s mostly the riddler stuff that uses a lot of it.
Exactly. People are gonna bitch no matter what you give them.
Cloudburst tanks are the absolute worst, ruin the game
@@zachlance6301 well the tanking battles are not mandatory when you free roam. Whenever you explore Gotham, you can use the Batmobile as a means of transportation only. The game doesn't "force you" to use only the battle features on it.
@@CFLaughsPeople wanted the batmobile for traversal in a huge Gotham City, not repeated rounds of tank battles.
@@aranighosh3945 that's the thing, they not only give you the option for using it during free roam around the city 🏙️ but also Rocksteady did the thing where they gave us more gameplay variety which helps keep the game from getting stale. They didn't take away anything from the previous games but rather expand on it. Arkham Origins got a lot of hate for being too similar to Arkham City and Arkham Knight got a lot of hate for trying some new things. You literally can't please everybody.
The problem with knight is if you don’t like the Batmobile the game is damn near unplayable
I loved this game. Combat, puzzles, story, gadgets all amazing. Really came down to whether or not you liked the Batmobile, which I did. The tanks challenges and race tracks were really awesome. 10/10 game. I’m looking forward to this trilogy on switch.
I'm really excited to revisit all three games when they land on Switch. But I'd say Arkham knight, for me, suffers from a lack of good boss fights and villain encounters.
This game was never called trash. If I remember correct it launched very unoptimized for PC and had major performance issues but that’s all. It came out the same year as Fallout 4, Witcher 3, battlefront, siege, MGS5, etc. was just a packed year and got overshadowed quick.
I wanted Joker to be dead in all aspects but no Rocksteady was so dumb and made him back in knight in the stupid joker mental plot
Iirc, there was a moment where people had guessed who Arkham Knight would be, and the devs responded by saying "nah it's not him it's actually a new character." Then it wound up being the character we all knew it was anyway.
There is a reason, out of all of the Arkham games, this is the one I’ve played the most. Yes, the storytelling has problems & yes, SOME, keyword SOME, of the Batmobile sections for me, were very much a drag. Specifically the Cobra Tank sections. HATE those! But even with all of that, at the end of the day, it’s a hella fun game to play! Which is what really matters when it comes to a video game. If you’re having fun playing it, that’s all that matters.
My biggest gripe with the game is how few, meaningful villain encounters there were. This game focused so much on environmental puzzles with the car and cared very little about real, intense boss encounters. Most of them were relegated to brief appearances in repetitive side missions. audiovisually, the game is an absolute dream come true.
I actually like Arkham Origins more than Arkham Knight. Arkham Knight had too much Batmobile, too many tanks fights, and no real boss fights.
Cant lie, it's genuinely my favourite of the series, the suits and bat mobiles in the game just add so much to the experience especially the nolan suit & batflecks
This was the reason I bought an Xbox One and the first game I bought for it. I played the heck out of it and got 240%. I recently bought it again on playstation and did it all again. Fantastic game with the best gameplay in the series.
Arkham Origins needs a remaster i still get on my PS3 to play it
Bad? It is a goddamn masterpiece. It may be not liked that much comparing to it’s predecessors but the amount of work the developer put into that game earned my admiration.
This was the first game I played when I got my PS4. I didn’t love the storyline, (because of my own expectations) and I was meh on the Batmobile stuff. But coming back to it this year, knowing what the story was going into it, and having the experience of driving the Batmobile before, it felt good just zipping around, the city in it, similar to how good it feels to swing around New York with Spidey. And the stuff with Joker and Scarecrow at the end might put it over the top as my favorite in the trilogy. And even the graphics hold up after all this time. RIP to the GOAT Kevin Conroy 🖤💛🩶
How the heck am i the only person here who never realized Arkham Knight was hated on... i honestly loved the game but im a huge Batman fan so i am biased but out of all Arkham games, Knight is the only one ive actually finished
Suicide squad is trash Arkham knight is GOATED
My only issue with Arkham knight is they replaced 90% of boss fights with tank battles which were fun but I wanted more classic Arkham city boss fights
Dude! I agree with you on Novigrad in the Witcher 3. It’s my personal favorite game and I agree. Every time I replay the game I speed through Novigrad.
If only the Batmobile segments were skippable then I could actually bear replaying it
Arkham knight, Gotham knights and any other game with Arkham in it are all excellent games. Don't listen to critics. Get the games for yourself and form your own opinions.
Didn’t realize it was considered bad. Played though it and loved it.
And I want a sequel to Gotham knights
As someone who has played each of these games from Arkham Asylum to Gotham Knights, is the new changes they tried. Namely the Batmobile, it was cool, but it felt like a bit much. (Which is a shame because at least they tried to do something new and interesting).
We went from having to wait for a while to get explosive gel and being stuck in the tight corridors of the Asylum; to having a tank to take out enemies and can go wherever we want from the beginning of the game.
I wouldn’t say it was bad, I would say it was abit underwhelming
Replacing boss battles with tank boss battles is where this game fumbled for me
Ya the stealth ones were so annoying
Arkham Knight is considered bad? That's news to me. I am playing for the first time through right now and have almost beat it, and I think it is great. 8.5/10 at least.
If anything you would've thought people would dig the hell out of this game at launch after all the Arkham Origins hate. I personally enjoyed this and Origins and think it's messed up that we had to get Gotham Knights for people to appreciate 2 great games! Also, to everybody who complained about the batmobile in this game, be grateful they even added Batman's car and gave the gameplay more variety to avoid making Arkham City 2.0!
Arkham knight is the best batman game ever! Why would some people think otherwise??? I don't get it.
The Batmobile sections are god awful. I haven’t 100% the game because of the Batmobile side quests.
No one said its bad, its a masterpiece, but the pc port was shit.
I’ve played through this game 3 or 4 times. I think it has the best story to all of them, maybe tied with City but I didn’t like Dr Strange at all. The gameplay is by far the best in the series. I initially didn’t mind the Batmobile sequences, I feel the same way now. It feels to me pretty 50/50 Batmobile and on foot gameplay to me
Arkham Knight is my favourite in the trilogy easily for the gameplay perfection. It runs and works so smooth. The graphics are still so good. The rain affects and neon colors of the buildings are still amazing to this day. I think the only things I found to be annoying was the overuse of batmobile. But I still loved the gameplay for it. And secondly the weaker villain but that was because it was so obvious otherwise the story and the designs and everything was great.
The timing on this video is so perfect. I’m working through the Arkham rn trying to get platinum for all games. Started with Origins but have to go back and tighten things up there. Arkham Asylum next and 100% that was cake! City on the other hand about broke me. Soooo much time. I just got the trophy yesterday!!! Now I’m look at Knight hesitant to play it. It’s the only one in the series I haven’t touched!!! Let’s see if by the end of the video I’m ready to start this bad boy!
Still has the best jump scare in video game history
Who thinks this is a bad game? It's still a bad PC port but it was never a bad game in the traditional sense.
Gotham knights is amazing it deserves no hate. I liked it better than Arkham tank I mean Arkham knight
I didn’t even know people didn’t like Arkham knight this game is dope!
No it’s great and the series as a whole, including origins, dances circles around the majority of AAA titles that release nowadays.
Arkham knight was never bad. Sure the story wasnt as good as city and the excessive use of batmobile really did hurt some of the game's pacing. But the combat, graphics, voice acting, environments, good side missions and the ending really make up for the mistakes.
Yes it's trash a disappointment and a terrible sequel. It's my least favorite Arkham game
Wanna know my one and only complaint about Arkham Knight? The Riddler challenges. I miss the head scratcher riddles that made me look at 'em from different perspectives. Other than that, this is the ultimate Batman game to me. I love it, I don't have the same complaints about the story or the Batmobile as everyone else, I love the small nods to Origins and it's one of my favorite games of the past generation and a helluva conclusion to one of my favorite series.
And I did not like the ending of knight
quick answer, not at all.
This is still my favorite Arkham game idc. The combat is at its best, the city is at its best, the story is flawed but gripping and it's got some great side missions. The Batmobile is also still pretty fun, if a little overused. Biggest downside of it for me is the boss fights but I don't think this series is known for its great boss fights anyway.
Arkham Knight is very underrated in my opinion. I think this was the best route in story telling. The Batmobile isnt bad at all because the same people who finally wanted a batmobile inlcuded Arkham game are the same ones complaining it was too much. The story may feel rushed and cluttered, but I still believe this title is far more enjoyable. Especially at the time of 2015, this title is filled with so much DLC that expanded over time, especially Homage to Ben Affleck Batman, Christian Bale, Michael Keaton and even Adam West? It is truly hard to hate this game, especially with Duo combat missions including Nightwing & Robin as in Arkham City were barely playable. I will never understand the slack this game gets, which may be biased as Jason Todds story is one my all time favorite in the Batman world. And seeong the Arkham Knight become Redhood only multiplied my likeness towards the Jason Todd Character. I might add that this games Batman Beyond suits in the main story campaign with animations, is by far one of my most favorite renditions. It was almost as they brought Terry McGiniss' suit brought into real life video game time. Enough of my fanboy, I would definitely have this on my top 3 Arkham games, Arkham City being 1 and the most highly underrated Arkham Origins that WB Games loves to ignore as my 2nd. I loved your take on this as I could not agree with anything you said, This was well worth watch dude.
It was always a great game, I think one of the biggest problems is people just didn't like how much time was spent with the batmobile. For me the biggest issue is if i'm remembering right, too many boss fights were batmobile based. And a few of them, especially a few fights against the arkham knight, felt a bit out of place.
No. It’s not…
I honestly think this game is a masterpiece and pays perfect respects to the franchise, animated series and Kevin Conroy. Tank stuff is a little much sometimes but I'll never forget jumping from a building and catching the bat creature that was flying around it, just like in the animated series. The destruction, graphics, sound, open world, all of it in my opinion holds up and creates such an incredible batman experience.
Not a Masterpiece. Its a good game. Not everything has to be a masterpiece..
@@aranighosh3945but it is a masterpiece, the story is well crafted and has iconic Batman moments.
First game i ever played on ps4 . I remember i got the bundle with ps4 at GameStop after work on midnight. I was awed by the opening with joker. Awesome memories
Nice touch playing a remix of Catwoman's Theme from Matt Reeves' Batman ❤
I had alot of problems with the story, writing, side quests most of the season pass to much batmobile, I didn't like scarecrow in knight or Jason Todd I didn't like the battle mode I didn't like the stupid joker blood plot I hated the story of Arkham knight this game sucked I don't understand how people like this dumpster fire.
Bro commented on the same video multiple times just to talk trash about the game 💀💀💀 It ain’t that deep
I played Arkham Knight years after it came out, and I loved it! The Batmobile was overused, but I didn't hate it.
This Series bro, Has been the most interesting , Fantastic, Intriguing series I have ever played. I remember beating the hell out of people in City, Getting scared front the environment in asylum, Loving the ferocious pace in origins, and the gameplay in knight. These games were and are my childhood. Love em you will too.
It was just too many Batmobile focused section is why many didn’t like it. I think your wires are crossed on that one. Some sections over stayed it’s welcome and some was short. I completely understand rocksteady was proud of the gameplay mechanics of the Batmobile but it was too much
Is it bad that I've been playing this game for YEARS and I did not know this was rated M.😂😂😂
After seeing this pop up I can personally tell you that this was a classic.
Nice to know that the autographed poster that i got from Tara strong is from Arkham knight
It’s fantastic!❤……minus the tank sections.......and the story could have used another pass or two.
The only criticism I remember about this game is how bad the PC port was at launch. And that it used the Batmobile a bit too much. But I don't think anyone says it's a bad game.
I played it for the first time last year. It is an amazing game. The dlc is great too. Game looks beautiful, plays great, I love the batmobile (some of this missions with it are the problem). I think the story is amazing honestly.
Best open world gotham hands down.
Arkham knight was the reason I actually got a xbox one finally. I remember playing the hell out of it that when I finally finished it I pulled a all nighter and had a blast !!!
Bad? I've just gone back to replay it and it's fucking brilliant! Compared to the absolute crap that gets put out these days, this is a masterpiece!
It’s crazy i just started playing this again and you make a video on it.
AK was the first digital game I bought and downloaded when I first got my ps4!!!! There was a psn sale going on at that time!!!
i don't think the game is bad, the only complaint i've heard about it was the batmobile being overused and even then it's far from the worst
I actuallt didn’t play the Arkham series until 2020, I was late to that party. Played all 4 in a row and loved them. Arkham Knight may even be a contender for my favorite. I couldn’t believe it when I heard this game was shit on at release. But we get what we give and I’m sure the response to Origins and Knignt, 2 games in a row, led them to scrapping anymore and beginning the live service dumpster fires that were Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad. To be fair though I did enjoy Gotham Knights for what it was. Was funner than expected. But it does pale in comparison to Knight. And Origins. And that’s the problem.
I did love the whole Joker being in Batman’s head thing and their banter throughout the game and the feeling of what’s real and what’s not was such a great part of the narrative and so well done.
Yea at first the overstaying of the batmobile killed it for me. I played it once and never again. But now years later, I find myself going back to it and I'm really enjoying it. I find it very fun now.
Batmobile overused but the game is really, really good. Hope to see Rocksteady one more time on a Batman game.
@retroredbound Also something else that revived arkham knight was the release of The Batman(2022) movie which caused tons of people wanting to play something related to batman, and the closest thing there was, was arkham knight due to the easy access there was to it being a later generation console game and being the fullest batman experience of all arkham games
I’ve always loved this game since release. It was the first game I bought on pc back in 2021.
They should have went straight to Batman Beyond after Arkham Knight.
Arkham Knight was never bad. Some people can be little babies and nitpicky about things that dont mean anything. That game is the ultimate Batman simulator and is a masterpiece.
Arkham Knight was the game that made me say “oh shit, I need a next gen console”. I loved the game from the beginning, and live everyone else, the tank combat is way too overused
Loved arkham knight biggest complaint is the cloudburst tank battle. I think a hand to hand fight across rooftops woulda been cool
I was very disappointed the first time I played it when I found out that the real ending was locked behind 100% completion, at least they partially fixed it afterwards. That said, the rest of the game is fine, not great. It definitely has the best gameplay in the series though (I never had an issue with the batmobile, except for how they turned Death Stroke into a batmobile boss fight), but I'm mixed when it comes to the story. I personally prefer Origins as the finale for the trilogy, as unpopular of an option as it might be.
except origins isnt rocksteady
I loved this game. they could have cut out a little bit of tank fights but other than that.
This is one of those games I can reboot once per year and get just as much enjoyment out of it as I did during my first play-through. The Joker’s commentary never gets old.
Of course the internet overreacted and threw a temper tantrum when this didn't end up being exactly like the game they had created in their minds. It's my favorite of the series.
I prefer it over Asylum, find it more replayable over it
