@@retrorebound8887 I think they're a really good mix of book and movie details (for the PC and PS2/Xbox/GC versions in particular; the PS1 versions had some really odd moments that strayed way off the mark) which allowed the devs quite a bit of freedom to inject them iwth a lot of whimsy and charm, especially in the art direction. Surprised you didn't talk about how great the music was in the early HP games. The soundtracks from Jeremy Soule are at least as good as the John Williams movie soundtracks and I think contribute a lot to that magical feeling of the early games.
The reason why Jeremy Soule doesn’t do more work is because of allegations of Sexual assault and harassment. To my knowledge it was settled out of court and he has been quiet since. His music is nostalgic for me and perfectly complements John Williams’s score, but it’s important to recognize the history.
The Prisoner of Azkaban and Chamber of Secrets were my favorites to play. Exploring hogwarts was my favorite thing about playing them so I was so happy they brought exploration back in Order of the Phoenix. Man I miss these games.
Crazy how you have come full circle for me. I remember watching you years ago in high school when you did fallout content. Stopped watching because my interests changed and now here we are years later your video gets recommended to me. Immediately recognized the face. Crazy to think I’m married and have a kid now. Chamber of Secrets was easily the best one. It had everything. I played it so much as a kid the exploration was amazing. You get easily immersed in the world and all the activities it was amazing for it's time. Which is why I am excited for Hogwarts Legacy because it reminds me of it so much.
I always will have a soft spot in my heart for the GBC Chanber of Secrets. Just such a great game and was very immersive and went out of its way in fleshing out the spells and magic the franchise sometimes struggles to tap into feeling like a diverse arsenal. Luckily the new game seems to really go that direction with so many new spells and such to add to the franchise.

Personally I did a play through retrospective on these games last year and I found Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince to be the best ones in the series with how much you can explore and interact as well as the better combat.
All I remember of Order of the Phoenix on PS2 was that Harry could climb the waterpipes on the castle walls as if he was some sort of Spiderman, and I was like "dude shouldn't be able to do that!".
My only problem with sorcers stone PS2 is they literally missed a challenge in charms class for the most iconic spell in the entire book and movie..... WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA.
I loved order of the Phoenix, using the right stick for magic was such a cool concept at the time. I was also obsessed with World Cup and the GBA prisoner of Azkaban lol.

Might be wrong but the reason the manual is in black in white is because it’s a 2nd edition copy. All first editions have a red stripe across the top of the game and they have color in the manuals allegedly.
This brought back memories, I totally forgot about how I played Half-Blood Prince on the wii when I was younger, and never could really understand how to beat the game. However, my favorite of the bunch was the Chamber of Secrets game boy color version that was the sole game my sister owned. That game was so fun, immersive, and covered more of the book and the world then the movies in a final fantasy kind of style!! Going around and collecting wizard cards and building your magical creature info book, or playing ghost bowling with old Nick and the gnome toss challenge, ahhh…there was just so much detail and explanation in that game.

I grew up with Chamber of Secrets and it was such a special game for me and my friend. The music is so fucking good. When I realised it was from the same composer of Skyrim I went aaaaaAaAAAaaAahh that’s why
I grew up with GBA so both Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire GBA versions were part of my childhood. And I gotta say. The GBA version of Goblet of Fires only thing it does better is you only need to play each level once which makes it astronomically better, but it still sucks. My brother had them for PS2 and I never got to play so when I watched him play I never got you had to go back and look for more crests on each level so I thought I wish I could play it. Well many years later as an adult I got a preowned 360 and preowned copies of the first 4 Harry Potter games on OG XBOX and can say I should have been more careful of what I wished for. I also got the last 4 on Wii, the Lego collection on PS4 and preordered copy of Hogwarts Legacy Digital Deluxe now predownloading on my PS5. I played Quidditch World cup on GameCube at my friends place when I was little, but as someone that was never a sports fan I enjoy Quidditch a bit, but think of it more of as a minigame thing.
I had the get the first two again for my new 2002 console, chamber of secrets was my first ever PS2 game and I feel in love with Prisoner of Azkiban when that released also back in the day,so many memories
Played every single game except deathly hallows part 2. I had a very high hope they would let players explore Hogwarts after finishing the story but I'm happy that we're getting a proper open world Harry Potter game this month 😁
The way you cast spells by drawing symbols in the pc version of sorcerer's stone was so cool. I've only seen it in Arx fatalis and Okami since. It definitely slows things down so I get it, but it's great in a puzzle game.
The Eye Toy!!! Matty THE EYE TOY!!! window washing, ninja chopping, plate spinning, that one where they would mirror you and you had to like fit in a frame or something??? that game was literally my entire childhood with my brother and friends for a good 2 or 3 years. i remember playing a lot of things on 'easy mode' by standing really close to the camera and moving around haha. i would absolutely fucking LOVE to see a video on that. if you do, please go through every different mode in that original game. and dont forget about Eye Toy: Play and Play 2, i never played them but thats the beauty of this channel! -your friend with the open back headphone advice. i was also on an episode of Ham Live with Paul and talked to you guys about settlement mode in Starfield haha
5:17 I never expected someone to open an old manual for a game and say it's boring when nowadays there aren't even any manuals at all for modern games. Also back then all manuals, or most manuals were black and white on the inside. (edit: ok I didnt expect the later once to also be black and white lol) It should also be noted that the copy of Philosophers stone you have was released after Chamber of secrets, which is also why it looks so similar to it. They wanted to rework the old one to match with the new one and have a game to release while there was no new movie.
Chamber was definitely the best of the bunch lol You gotta do a video for the handheld ones too! I recently repurchased Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets for the GBC and they hold up!!
I grew up loving both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. In my area people loved both for different reasons, but never really compared the two. As a kid I played the early games on GBA but never the console versions until last year when I saw a video comparing all the versions by Flandrew. I bought the first three games for PS2 and never looked back. I tried playing the first console game after beating the second, but it was too derivative of the former. I enjoyed Prisoner of Azkaban much more than the PS2 version of Sorcerer's Stone.
Harry Potter and the sorcerer stone was my first game besides lord of the rings RoK on my first ps2 system, I was 8 when I got it , at the time I didn’t understand English, so it was a challenge for little me, good memories.
I thought about selling my old HP games, but the memories are too good to exchange for money. About memories: i have two versions of the chamber of secrets: first one was the dutch version, second one in English. The first version was so over played that the game stopped working right before the first duel between harry and draco. For like two years i only played the beginning of the game over and over again until i finally found the game again in a local toy store and begged my mom to buy it again for me
Thank you Lockmort for adding some footage of the PC version of a Harry Potter game (specifically Chamber). Those are the versions of the initial Harry Potter games that I remember most fondly. I’m kind of surprised Matty didn’t talk about the PC versions of Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets (and possibly Prisoner of Azkaban). Then again, the only way to play those PC versions is to get a cracked/pirated version of them due to their usage of install codes on the back of the cases no longer supported on Windows
I am so excited to watch this video. I absolutely love Harry Potter and I'm super hyped for Hogwarts Legacy. Thank you Matty, for covering these amazing games 🙏💪
I 100% was both a LOTR and HP fanboy as a kid in the early 2000s. I also loved (still do) Star Wars. Generally the kids around my age used to love a combo of at least two of those franchises. Many or even most of us even loved Pokémon, as well. I remember so many times being at my best friend's place, he had a TV and couch in his room even at 11 years old. He also had a playstation 2 with sockets for 4 controllers. On that playstation we spent hundreds of hours playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, Lego Star Wars 1 or Revenge of the Sith. If we weren't playing on the playstation then we were playing Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire OR Prisoner of Azkaban on our flip-Gameboy Advances while watching a movie like Star Wars or LOTR, or a TV show like The Simpsons. And we had a lot of hours logged on Pokémon too.
I remember someone bringing The Philosopher's Stone on PS1 to the place where we hang out after school and me playing the Gringotts minecart stage. Being a fan of the book and movie I instantly fell in love with it and so I got it for my birthday that year. It is janky and so bad it's good, but fuck me I loved that game! Then when The Chamber of Secrets came out (still my favorite of the movies), I wanted the PS1 version because that was the only one where you play the scene where Harry and Ron outrun the Hogwarts Express in the flying car... but instead I got the GBA version where both it and the confrontation with Aragog in the Forbidden Forest was cutscene-only. Still loved the game though despite its shortcomings. For Prisoner of Azkaban I had upgraded to a PS2 and so I got that game for my birthday and loved the hell out of it as well, especially flying around Hogwarts on a hippogrif. The rest of the games I bought for my own money used long after they released but they also got worse and worse.
I loved how you were talking about your childhood memories of Chamber of Secrets PS2 and then used the wrong footage from the PC version and in doing so you triggered MY childhood memories😂😂
I remember the first Harry potter game coming across to the PS2 but sadly I already had it for the Playstation 1 and my foaks were not seeing the justification of purchasing it again ,the only one I hopped over but looking forward to seeing it finally be played
Uhh you showed different versions of the game for Chamber of Secrets. You said you were playing the PS2 version but some of your footage is from the PC version which was a different game. Also Sorcerer's Stone on PS2 was not a re-release of the PS1 version. It was a different version using the Chamber of Secrets engine. Did you even play any of these?
That coupled with the fact he is clearly hiding his depth of knowledge/enjoyment of the franchise because he is afraid of controversy or is too proud to admit it for some reason. And you'll never get a reply from him to address it either. It's enough to make me unsub 🤷🏽♂️
I had a similar experience having rented chamber of secret from blockbuster. That game was quite solid from what I recall and I’m glad to see it seems to hold up.
Sorcerer's Stone I had on the PS1 and I surprisingly had trouble with that one coming towards the end. I just don't think I caught on with that plant thing as a kid. Chamber of Secrets I played through many times over on PC because I largely had nothing else to do at the time. From what I've heard about the different versions, I think this was the worst one? Either way, it felt replayable, but not very memorable outside of bad acting. Prisoner of Azkaban I similarly played on PC, but I remember it even less than Chamber of Secrets. I only ended up playing it once, but what I do remember about it was that it felt better. Just not sure what was missing for it to really stick in my mind otherwise. Goblet of Fire on the PS2.. so I rented this at the time and I think I had fun with it? Honestly though, the part that stuck with me was the "Back again, eh? And there are stilllllllll multiple shields to collect." Decade and a half later at least, I still remember that one line. The rest I never played. They just never grabbed my attention. Even as a fan of Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman, Lego Harry Potter I've yet to play, though I always found it funny that out of all of Game Informer's Harry Potter reviews, it had the highest at 7.5 (I think Half-Blood Prince was second with a solid 7).
With such a fan of RPG's as you are, you should definitely check out the Gameboy games! GB Chamber of Secrets feels like an old school JRPG/LOTR Third Age where your spells and stuff upgrade the more you use them.
17:50 i came here hoping youd talk about these. i somehow got harry potter part 1 (dont know the titles in english) in gameboy and you could level up and fight vs monsters like rats in a final fantasy style...these were so awesome T.T absolute hidden gem, didnt know there was another harry potter like this, plus i hear golden sun? i gotta go!!
I mean it's not great, but I liked how you could replay episodes to unlock different pathways that then led to alternate exits that unlocked other episodes.
Ps1 and ps2 sorcerers stone are very different, also ps2 chamber of secrets came out before sorcerers stone on ps2 so although it “feels” like a first HP game even without PS1 game chamber of secrets still came first….
When I was growing up I was more of a passive Harry Potter fan and more into the Lord of the rings. But as I got older and met my fiancé she help me truly fall in love with the Wizarding world. And I can say it’s easily our generations Star Wars.
I cannot stress how great the potion brewing minigame is in the Wii version of Half-Blood Prince. It's all motion-controls, and the controls are all so natural feeling. You target vials by point & click, then raise your Wii Remote to pick it up, then pour it like you're pouring a real glass of liquid. You can pour things as quickly or as slowly as you want, and it's just a ton of fun. As a kid, I used to boot up the game all the time just to sit down and play potions for 30 minutes.
as someone who's always wanted an interactive potion making or cooking game thats not just clicking buttons to put stuff in automatically, i love this and wanna try it now

(edit: ok I didnt expect the later once to also be black and white lol)
It should also be noted that the copy of Philosophers stone you have was released after Chamber of secrets, which is also why it looks so similar to it.
Yarrrr
When I started my gamecube collection Chamber of Secrets was my first pickup. Cheap and it's an awesome video game!
I loved how you were talking about your childhood memories of Chamber of Secrets PS2 and then used the wrong footage from the PC version and in doing so you triggered MY childhood memories😂😂
Goblet of Fire PC version was so good it remained my favourite HP part, also with the movie and the book
the two Game Boy Color games were the best.
I remember the first Harry potter game coming across to the PS2 but sadly I already had it for the Playstation 1 and my foaks were not seeing the justification of purchasing it again ,the only one I hopped over but looking forward to seeing it finally be played
I replayed the PS1 Sorcerer's Stone game since I wasn't good enough to beat it as a kid. I mostly just liked walking around Hogwarts.
@@cactusmalone Moron.
The PS2 Sorcerer's Stone was not the first game. That version of the game didn't release until a year AFTER the Chamber of Secrets game.
I’m for sure going to try the golden sun inspired gba game looks neat
With such a fan of RPG's as you are, you should definitely check out the Gameboy games! GB Chamber of Secrets feels like an old school JRPG/LOTR Third Age where your spells and stuff upgrade the more you use them.
17:50 i came here hoping youd talk about these. i somehow got harry potter part 1 (dont know the titles in english) in gameboy and you could level up and fight vs monsters like rats in a final fantasy style...these were so awesome T.T absolute hidden gem, didnt know there was another harry potter like this, plus i hear golden sun? i gotta go!!
I loved the first three turn based RPGs.
I remember being excited to get the hp4 game. Little did I know that was the decline of the franchise games
And I can say it’s easily our generations Star Wars.
ive never seen someone complain about a video game manual nobody ever looks at
Sad you didn’t get the PS1 version of Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Other than that, great video!
As a kid, I used to boot up the game all the time just to sit down and play potions for 30 minutes.
as someone who's always wanted an interactive potion making or cooking game thats not just clicking buttons to put stuff in automatically, i love this and wanna try it now
I loved chambers of secrets as a kid
