    Starcraft has always felt like the ultimate challenge to me, and I still love the challenge of the only true RTS esport (okay Broodwar fans we're on the same team) but over time I learned that there is so much more than hardcore 1v1 progamer combat (GSL/WCS etc). It is also one of the only games that has a custom game, co-op and team game community all of which could be standalone games on their own. Personally I play mostly 1v1 ladder, but even if you aren't grinding it out everyday and just want to aim for the monthly direct strike championship there is still so much fun to be had!
    Thanks Maynarde, the most hype caster and Starcraft fan out there for putting this together, and I hope you give this free game your download space :)

      off topic but could you do a bunch of archon matches with Lowko? I'd love to see the 2 best SC2 youtubers (sorry beasty and pig) go together in a series of archon matches (perhaps you could even do it against Beasty playing on his own) just askin'...

    THANK YOU!! I've been watching the esport for a year now and decided to start playing this week. I've never played a real time strategy game before. I did the Tutorial and then the 1-on-1 training. I was completely overwhelmed in the training with so much going on. This was a really great introduction, wish I'd seen this first.

    Unfortunately SC2 is kind of an addiction to me, not that I'd stop doing my life obligations to play it but every free time I had ended up being sucked by the game. Many times I wished I was enjoying other games or watching tv shows but I got so obsessed into getting good that every minute lost not playing the game was the reason I lost the next match. My mood would also be affected by it before playing the game (ladder anxiety) and after playing it. I also can't play just for fun because I don't see the point. Sometimes I think about going back to it but I remember how stressful it was, sadly.

    I've been watching SC2 tournaments on and off for a couple years now and It's always seemed like way too much to learn. I played the campaign but it never felt anything like the 1v1 I'd watch. I realize it's a silly comparison to compare story AI to the world's best but they were my only reference points at the time. Thank you for making this video. I think I'll give SC2 a whirl again.

      I don't know if this notifies you, but, if you happen to see it down the line, thank you! I got reasonably comfortable playing against very hard AI after moving through the training stages and AI Ladder (having a lot of trouble vs Elite). I just played my first 1v1 match against a human and boy was my heart racing in the final battles. Thank you so much for helping make this crazy hard game more accessible! It's been tremendous fun thus far.

    I wanna begin playing, but I just don't know much about build order and different units. Are there any good up-to-date complete beginner guides on everything about each race? I know how to micro units and bodyblocking at a 3kmmr(archon/legend) level in dota, but there's just so many more units and stuff in an rts.

      One nice thing about statecraft is you can really explore the build orders and the units yourself if you want to because playing 1v1 you don't have anyone else on your team to let down and you can go into unit tester as well. There are actually a lot of complications in MOBAS you don't have in statecraft because the units are much simpler than the heroes so you can develop a "feel" for how the fight should go a lot faster imo....and I would always suggest REPLAYS to help you figure things out more...you can see your income, workers, etc as well as see how you could have stopped what your opponent was doing or slow things down on a fight to see how something happened.
      Pretty sure when you have a unit selected you can see like all their stats and maybe mouse over some things for info? Just seeing the damage from each attack against specific units in the unit tester or how different AOE's or abililities work can help you get a "feel"for the units.
      Formation can play a huge role too, flanks and surrounds or just semi-surrounds are very powerful and choke points and high ground are easier to defend because of vision and formation (one by one through a choke point and units may get massacred)....but all this stuff you can develop more of a feel for quite quickly because the units you'll learn in no time (much quicker than remembering all the different hero abilities in a moba probably).
      Keeping an eye on the details of what your opponent is producing (units, workers, structures) and where they are on the map always keeps you a step ahead and in the driver's seat in statecraft but I think you get that aspect of it...
      ...just like a moba starcraft is a nuanced and detailed game where everything can be important...but in statecraft you really can enjoy the process of getting better in a much different way because you can very much design your own strategy, focus, tactics, and style from the get-go and that can even help you in the long run in being creative and different even if you have to start following the crowd here and there.
      I highly suggest finding a friend to play with as having someone to 1v1 who you can feel even more competitive with and someone who you can cheer and discuss the game with made this my favorite game of all time to learn and get better at.

    Vid Just what I was looking for. Thank you.. From a very long time ago, competitive c n c player (20+ years ago...f*** I'm getting old!!l) didn't want to jump into SC (pretty much for the exact same reasons as this vid started) but I need something to distract me in life, a break.... this game looks to be a better plan than just drinking booze! Time to replace booze for starcraft I think. Not even joking (I no talking to my self at this point) but I need this game in my life. I was addicted to Tiberiun sun back in the day and loved love....this got to be better than alcohol!

    Do you have any competitive game you can suggest that have a noob friendly commentary?

    • @lukebomber
      @lukebomber 5 лет назад

      Hearthstones commentary is very noob friendly and the scene is quite competative though it has a reputation for being a bit RNG focused (luck). However that is mostly a big meme, the game is still very skill based and as another bonus the games are slow enough for anyone to follow as the players think everything through. Apart from that some decks are very simple to understand like "swarm decks" where you take control of the board and kill the enemy through various means before they can stabalize so even if you cant understand everything you can understand something.
      As for SC2 look up x5PiG and WinterStarcraft for beginner guides glhf

    Can someone describe what StarCraft 2 is? I watched the video twice but it still didn't address basic issues, like 1. Is it all about just creating Gas, Minerals and that other stuff? 2. Is it about who can create the most in the least amount of time? I saw stuff swarming around, were they looking for stuff to mine? 3. Is it about using your supplies to create some structures faster than the next person? I watched a few videos but all I saw was unidentifiable swarming things running to/fro. Anybody take this noob question?

    • @glossary90
      @glossary90 4 года назад +1

      Hey, its about making attacking units and killing your opponent with them. Technically the game is over once you destroy all the buildings of your opponent, but in reality, players just simply tap out when they know they have no chance to win anymore. You have to have workers to gain money for troops, your workers have to be protected by them so you can train more. Your attacking units are constantly fighting and trading of with your opponent so if you have a better economy or / and are more cost-efficient, you will win the battles and the game.

    You forgot to mention that Blizzard's favoritism has ensured that their pet faction, the Zerg, has consistently dominated tournaments at the professional level ever since the 2017 nerfs made Terran a late-game laughingstock, and every time Zerg gets a minor nerf - Hydralisks losing .05 firing speed, or Nydus networks becoming killable in their growth phase, for the most recent examples - they get major buffs to ensure that their dominance strengthens towards supremacy. (Making fungal growth forbid all cleanse/escape techniques and making nydus networks both cheaper and tremendously quicker to unload.) Meanwhile the Zerg lategame Infestor/Broodlord/Viper/Corruptor army remains _the_ late-game Zerg composition because it's now more OP than ever.

    • @albertnorman4136
      @albertnorman4136 5 лет назад

      Yes, Queens and Spore Crawlers are absolutely lousy anti-air, everyone knows that!
      Try again when Zerg _isn't_ consistently dominating tournaments at the professional level.
