Recently got back into the game, and played some ladder and was like 5 W - 10 L in bronze. Before the following season I watched this guide and easily breezed to gold 3 with 17 W - 8 L. Thanks, Winter-sensei! 10/10 would recommend!
I got to level 1000 co op and decided to jump into ranked after a versus ai game that gave me an idea. Its a 5 gate all in build, and it got me to diamond. Failed a lot against zergs that roach up (30% win rate against zergs lol. 73% win rate against toss, and about 60% win rate against terran), so I modified it against zerg. Go pylon at choke, send that probe to a corner. Then a gateway and another pylon to wall the choke. Then cy core, and an assimilator. The key is to only get enough probes for minerals and one gas, dont spend any more on probes. Then get 4 more gateways around the time your cy core finishes. Research warp and boost it as much as you can. Warp should finish very shortly after the gateways finish. That probe you sent to a corner should have made a pylon at some point, and then sent to the opposite corner and make another pylon if your first pylon gets scouted. When your warpgates are up, you should have around 1k minerals banked. Now just warp units in, about 3 rounds of warps, and send em to attack. Its very rarely expected, and rarely defended. I usually go adepts, but stalkers may be necessary in pvp. When i attack, its usually like 10 adepts and 5 zealots, but mess around with it and feel it out on your own. If it fails, you lose. But like I said, it got me to diamond. Try it out! Against zerg i now go 4 gate, 1 robo and rush a couple immortals and attack asap. This destroys those roaches. Ill have like 5 adepts, 5 zealots, and 2 or 3 immortals (need enough zealots for mass lings). And i actually get 2 assimilators with that build cuz obviously need gas. In 2 nights i went from placing silver, to climbing up to diamond3. They are short games lol. If you cripple your opponent, but not enough to finish em, use that probe thats on the map to expand in a corner and get voids/oracles to finish em off.
Excellent videos as always, Winter. I would definitely like to see cheese defense guides in the future, how to shut down cannon rushes, scout proxies etc in the future!
Hey Winter, thanks for starting on the newish build guides! I like this kind of more-specific thing, and I know everyone else does too. You should probably make nine of them, one for each match-up. You are a star, and I stand between you and the candle.
Haven’t played in a long time, so used your guide to get some rust off. Played against a friend I didn’t know also played some time ago. Needless to say, I maxed out 11 min and stomped him. It was protoss vs zerg and he had only around 120 units done. So thanks for that.

i personally like going against AI because it is always good to remember the opponent attacking throws a wrench in your timings. rarely does a build go PERFECT without any hitches. So, for that reason the Ai is a better choice when training imo. Doesnt even have to be a hard AI, just anything to remind you that the opponent will be attacking you most likely.
@@bobbykeating3398 this is good for engraving the build in your head. So when you do happen to face AI/opponents, the wrenches wont fluster you as much you can throw in a couple extra things and get right back onto the BO without giving it extra thought

This was really helpful advice for me. 100%, I've been trying to do too much at once, thinking I should be pushing attacks earlier even just to harass, and I lose too much focus on my production and economy. Then, if I can't finish it before midgame, I'm way behind. I'm an OG StarCraft campaign and skirmish player lol, so I do have much to learn of the new ways. This kind of strategy is what I wanted as well. I know the whole meta and all the specific builds are important for competitive, but there's also just all the fundamentals, and getting all that down will take you a long way I think. And P.S. I like your presentation of it - you're pleasant to listen to lol.

You should do more videos like this, really. Thank you very much, it helps a lot. A piece of advice: maybe you commenting a replay would work better than you actually playing as playing and explaining ruins the timing of your build. Just a feedback from this noob :) 👍
"so what we're gonna learn to do, very first, is play with ourselves, every day play with ourselves" Dude I play starcraft I think i've got that covered
"You can have multiple forges" - proceeds to add 2 forges to his 2 already existing forges. Just in case one of the gets sniped you can still build three upgrades at a time :D
hey, I know this build order 14 pylon, 16 probe, chrono boost, build a gate, scout with the probe. 17 assimilator, 2 more probes. 19 probe can go down the ramp, if he's already there, build a cyber core instead, now 21 gas, 21 pylon.
This is VERY useful and amazing! can u do 1 for Zerg & Terran please? This is a great overall 15 min guide. i didnt know about the super pylon so little things like that as u walk as through ur thought process for 10 min is very helpful! More please for other 2 races!!!
My cousin fathers twice removed brother who works for Blizzard says they are going to remove Probes next patch. Idk if it's worth learning Protoss anymore.
This is for 2019 and 2020 you'll be fine, zealots are not removed and are good for some situations. It's all about scouting what your opponents going to do and adjust to that.
can you make a really slow guide without spamming hotkeys so we can see exactly wat u r doing. I can't keep up and sometimes I can't tell what you're building either
You need to understand the basics. His beginner tutorials feel kinda dumb if you have played a little, but they are definitely good to learn what's important and how the game works.
Got a question How can you add a unit or a building to you hotkey? Like when i build 2 barracks and they are too far away to double-click and bind them on hotkey 2 for example, what can i do to bind them on one hotkey? Thx in advance to everyone reading this
I'm seeing a huge army with zero anti-air. What do we do against Battlecruisers or mass banshee? I've heard lots of good players say Stalkers should never be used due to being a noob trap, so if not that what does Protoss even have? Phoenixes? Or are Void Rays strictly better?
I'm just getting back into SC and i keep getting destroyed by Zergling rush which would have happened well before you had and defense, how would you handle that?
What are your thoughts on Oracles early on?? Build 2-4 of them and harassed a mineral line of the opponent? I've been trying to get faster with protoss and try taking the advantage.
I am rly new too sc2 and i am confised avout forges. Do their effects stack? Is it good to have more than one? Should i place them close to anything? I always though forges were just to get photon and zelot upgs lmao
in my opinion, it's a stronger argument for armor upgrade, since surviving a bit longer in a fight counts as a hit or two more, thus more damage overall. When you need to preserve your units, you do need shield upgrade, but it's most likely already later in the game and you already got most of the upgrades anyway.
shield upgrades are worse because most units have more health than shield and shield upgrade costs more. It is only good if you have a massive ground & air army.
Cheers, watched this video, played with myself twice, did two unranked games and ran through placements and ended up in gold 3. Not bad for never having touched the game I think.
Hello! This might be little noob to ask or maybe i missed it from vid but is there any scenario u wont go warp gate as protoss, i mean if u have 2 gates gives only 2 unit warp, i feel like il get faster units just by making them whit regular gate at start. Im a new player and struggeling if i should do always warp gates or regular ones.
More forges means more phase-smiths. More phase-smiths means better machines. Better machines means better cannons. Better cannons mean better cannon rushes!
What do you do against early Terran push? I open with 2 gateways and then double adept harass , killed a few SCVs. But Terran had 4 siege tanks, 2 medivacs and maybe 14 marines before 6minutes marching towards my base. I shaded 4 adepts from behind and killed two siege tanks but adepts were killed and then rest of my army/base. Ps.: I am gold, close to platinum
he meant upgrades, like +2 weapon // +2 armor upgrade, depending of the kind of comp you are practicing. There's diferrent upgrade for ground units and air units. with this exact build, you would go for ground upgrades.

Just tested warping one zealot under super pylon and another to a regular one, it's impressive the difference, actually 3 times faster
I noticed there's a differrence in warp times, the enemy was already killing them before the finished warping but didn't understand wht
I definitely need some strategy for 2020, I feel like I was only ever good at this game in 1998...
Same here. I would 1v3 my friends and rekt them. Just started playing again and am horrible
6:07 "Jimmy move me, ty" jimmy is so responsive
"You can have multiple forges" - proceeds to add 2 forges to his 2 already existing forges. Just in case one of the gets sniped you can still build three upgrades at a time :D
I'm picking up little pieces, one at a time. and I'm coming for you.
hey, I know this build order
14 pylon, 16 probe, chrono boost, build a gate, scout with the probe. 17 assimilator, 2 more probes. 19 probe can go down the ramp, if he's already there, build a cyber core instead, now 21 gas, 21 pylon.
22 if you won't forget but you will forget so stop fucking around.
@@Arlano76 where's your second pylon?
M.H.B 21 pylon
This is VERY useful and amazing! can u do 1 for Zerg & Terran please? This is a great overall 15 min guide. i didnt know about the super pylon so little things like that as u walk as through ur thought process for 10 min is very helpful! More please for other 2 races!!!
"Everyday play with yourself" ( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛)
yeah I also love how right after he said it he grabbed both ends of his keyboard lmao.
I bet $500 bucks before checking the comments someone was gonna comment this
1:29 "Every day you should play with yourself" lmfao...
Thats right mate, you heard the man.... haha
"More googlin than playin", hits me..lol! 😂😂
Is this still applicable in 2019? Do immortals even exist anymore? Didn't zealots get removed last patch?
Immortals are still very good, zealots do a bit less damage but are harder to kite and they do better when flanking siege tanks, for example
My cousin fathers twice removed brother who works for Blizzard says they are going to remove Probes next patch. Idk if it's worth learning Protoss anymore.
Not applicable for 2019 at all. Good thing it's a 2020 guide
This is for 2019 and 2020 you'll be fine, zealots are not removed and are good for some situations. It's all about scouting what your opponents going to do and adjust to that.
@@thegalactifiedwolf4215 He's joking about all the toss nerfs lol. He didn't seriously ask if Zealots were removed.
Poor Winter doesn't know in 2020 Protoss only has air units.
Do you mean that in pvz nowadays you almost ask ways need sky toss openers to defeat roach/ravager all-ins?
can you make a really slow guide without spamming hotkeys so we can see exactly wat u r doing. I can't keep up and sometimes I can't tell what you're building either
Not gonna lie this is probably the slowest I've ever seen anyone playing sc2
i think if you can't keep up with him in this video then maybe start out for yourself, because it's not really possible to go slower
You need to understand the basics. His beginner tutorials feel kinda dumb if you have played a little, but they are definitely good to learn what's important and how the game works.
I really wish my games lasted this long.
1:25 what!? Haha 😂 I see what ya did there!
This is srsly a great guide for newbies
“Every day, you should play with yourself”😂😂
I didn't even realize you could play with only yourself
I'm dumb
Love the stuff you do keep it up!
I'm getting rushed my mass marines and marauders. I can't hold that attack. What should I do?
Adepts, maybe build an extra gate or two, and build a shield battery in the mineral line
Im only gold 2 tho so take that with a grain of salt
When I want to play a melee match on my won I win immediately as soon as the match begins. How do I avoid that?
Noob Question, Why do you start with 12 probes while I do with 6? :c
x2
Got a question
How can you add a unit or a building to you hotkey? Like when i build 2 barracks and they are too far away to double-click and bind them on hotkey 2 for example, what can i do to bind them on one hotkey? Thx in advance to everyone reading this
Im mission the build order. Cant write down the build order cuas ecant see probe count all time......
What keyboard is he using to get the pulse lights everytime he touches a key? Can most keyboard do this or is it special software?
Watched this video, tried it twice against myself. Then I won my next three matches in silver league, one of the matches was against a gold player.
1:29 “every day, you should play with yourself”
I’m sorry come again now?
Come again? If you insist 😏
ooh - looking forward to the Terran video!!! :D
I'm seeing a huge army with zero anti-air. What do we do against Battlecruisers or mass banshee? I've heard lots of good players say Stalkers should never be used due to being a noob trap, so if not that what does Protoss even have? Phoenixes? Or are Void Rays strictly better?
If you get 12 blink stalker at 5 minutes mark, you win against anything. After that they are support units
I'm just getting back into SC and i keep getting destroyed by Zergling rush which would have happened well before you had and defense, how would you handle that?
I enjoy making 4 forges too, especially against terran. Should we get really meta and proxy one or two forges?
Bronze player?
tHANK YOU I NEEDED THIS NOW I CAN SUCK BUT HAVE A PLAN DOING IT!!!!!!!!
I love your advices WS, but whats the best way to defend against early air attack on probes? building Stalkers and Observers?
Very new player here. How does he get the different colored units/race? I only have the base colors unless there are multiple ai in the lobby
I'll give it a try, thanks.
how do you select 3 probe by shift clicking ? do i need to bind it from the menu it doesnt work for ,me :(
What are your thoughts on Oracles early on?? Build 2-4 of them and harassed a mineral line of the opponent?
I've been trying to get faster with protoss and try taking the advantage.
I am rly new too sc2 and i am confised avout forges. Do their effects stack? Is it good to have more than one? Should i place them close to anything? I always though forges were just to get photon and zelot upgs lmao
10:08
"shields come back" is an argument for shield upgrade. Not disputing the conclusion, just saying.
in my opinion, it's a stronger argument for armor upgrade, since surviving a bit longer in a fight counts as a hit or two more, thus more damage overall.
Hey guys what is that grey skins on protoss ? Didn't find it on google
Now do a Zerg one :D
I'm really curious how long he can keep the double entendre going.
Hello! This might be little noob to ask or maybe i missed it from vid but is there any scenario u wont go warp gate as protoss, i mean if u have 2 gates gives only 2 unit warp, i feel like il get faster units just by making them whit regular gate at start. Im a new player and struggeling if i should do always warp gates or regular ones.
is this guide still good?
Winter in winter wow
“ Every day you should play with yourself”
Ok then
+2 is two upgrades or 2 lvls for all upgrades?
What is the cosmetics Winter is using in this video? Is it still something that can be obtained?
Was his opponent afk? I would have attacked hard at 4:15 min
@WinterStarcraft what is that protoss skin and color, how to get it
Thats right everyone you heard the man, "Go play with yourself"..... With pleasure :)
10:05 Speaking of units with more health than shields... Let's make some Archons!
I always just built up til I get attacked and hope my defence can handle it then attack. Thanks this works a lot better lol
More forges means more phase-smiths. More phase-smiths means better machines. Better machines means better cannons. Better cannons mean better cannon rushes!
What skin do you have on? It's really nice
Still haven’t got the balls to pvp, just the idea gives me anxiety. VH comp is my limit as of yet. Your channel is much appreciated. Toss ftw.
What are ‘adepts’? Been playing this game for years and never seen one!
Which race do you think I should start with?
I don’t understand why u don’t have more subs
Will I need to wait for the 2020 patch for this build to work?
2020 patch already happened. All the changes are live :)
@winterstarcraft how do i change my ingame command card buttons/UI colors?
What is the name from the Keyboard?
ahhh now to go on the ladder after only having remembered the first minute of that
How to defeat mass battle cruisers?
As a protoss player
what does he mean at the end about the goal being +2? is that the number of additional nexuses?
he meant upgrades, like +2 weapon // +2 armor upgrade, depending of the kind of comp you are practicing. There's diferrent upgrade for ground units and air units. with this exact build, you would go for ground upgrades.
