- As the world continues to mourn the loss of Eddie Van Halen, his friend and fellow rocker Gene Simmons is speaking out about the guitar legend.
Van Halen died Tuesday at 65, following a battle with cancer.
“Extra’s” Billy Bush spoke with Simmons, who produced Van Halen’s first demo.
Nobody sounded like Eddie before he arrived. He changed rock history

I was a KID in 1978, just barely in 4th grade but because of My older brother, he introduced ME to Van Halen and i immediately loved ALL of their Songs. V.H. 🎸 🎶 was My older brother's Top 10 FAV. Hard Rock Bands And it Also became MY Top 10 FAV. Hard Rock Bands.
By the time i got to 6th grade (1980)
i started buying My own Rock Band magazines and that's when i knew exactly what the guys looked like And as a SILLY Young female KID,
i started telling My little friends back in the day that someday i was gonna marry Eddie Or his older brother Alex and they'd all laugh at ME but i was Determined to make MY Dream come True, LOL! 😝 😂

Gene was absolutely right; Jimi and Eddie were the most innovative of rock's guitarists. He will be truly missed.
Gene is right on on all counts. I met Eddie in 87 when they played and he smiled from the time he hit the stage to the time he walked off it. RIP Eddie, no doubt you are at the feet of God and now longer in pain. The Angel's will be amazed at your smile and what you will play for them. It says in the bible that the Angel's will be in awe of all we sing and do in heaven as they cannot. RIP Eddie, will see you again one day in heaven.

Simmons has *earned* the reputation of being a misogynistic jerk for a very good reason....it is who he is at his core.
Since he was the studio executive who brought VH to NY, any success VH had or EVH for that matter, was nothing more for Simmons that what is knows as "an extension" of himself, because that is the way narcissists view their spouse, children, or those they help achieve success (they view that person's success as their very own success...and fame).

It is true Gene Simmons did help to discover Van Halen. And this was when Kiss was the biggest rock act on Earth in the 1970's. I say good for him and for us.

Total, total bummer. First Neil Peart and now Ed. My favorites are starting to move on to the next life. Van Halen formed when I was 2. I don't remember exactly when they hooked me, but basically my entire life has been filled with Eddie and the band's sounds. If I could I would use his best guitar rifts in EVERY SINGLE ONE of my uploads. RIP Edward!

I have terminal cancer that is currently in remission (if that makes any sense) and I did the same thing with friends and collegaues. I wanted to tell everyone about it not for sympathy but it felt good to get it off my chest. The shock of hearing the news that you have terminal cancer is too much to bare it alone. Everyone was all feeling sorry for me and I was like "Hey, it is what it is" cant do much about it but have a positive attitude....This was 3.5 years ago...basically being kept alive with a daily chemo pill..I can also understand why Eddie was quiet in his final months too because I know when I get sick again and dont have much long to go I will delte my social media and not want to talk to anybody...That will be reserved for alone and reflection time.....Rest in Peace EVH

Yes, Eddie was a unique guitar player and had a gentle soul at times. Unfortunately drugs and alcohol messed up his brain for many years. He treated his ex wife Valerie, Sammy Hagar, Hartley Peavey and a few other people with lots of disrespect. I met Eddie and Sammy at Cabo Wabo in 1986 and had a BLAST with them..! RIP EVH..!!!

We're all grieved for the loss of Eddie... Anytime I learn someone has died, my first thought/question is: were they a saved person? Why? That way I might know if I'll see them agian! Van Halen professed a strong connection with God, pretty much giving God the credit for everything that happened in his life. He thanked God for turning his hard work into great guitar riffs, and also credits Him when he’s not playing well.
Van Halen said: "I just believe that when you play long enough you’re able to execute with your fingers, whatever God gives you… And God’s got a sense of humor, too-sometimes he gives me shit, ’cause not everything I do I like."
You’d think the guy would take some credit for all that practicing he did as a kid, but he won’t even take credit for the hard work of staying sober after years of alcohol and drug abuse.
"Yeah, I thank God on my knees that I’m alive and obviously to be sober and to be working with my son. I’m so damn blessed it’s beyond words."

Eddie Van Halen will go down in history as the best rock guitar player of all time for me. I learned the styles of all the legends and Ed was the hardest to learn. They had to create tablature because his style was so unorthodox and unique. He also wrote most of his songs on keyboard and translated it to guitar which is different. I'm a kiss fan as well and grew up listening to their records and learned their tunes on guitar. Early Van Halen and kiss have a lot in common because both bands tuned down half a step which makes things a bit easier on the singers.
I don't know Eddie's heart, only God does but I can say this. The Man was kind, always praised God for his talent, and was very loving and humble who obviously loved his son and his little dog. He LOVED that little dog as if it was his child. These are qualities that lead me to believe that although not perfect, and being a sinner like us all, he feared and loved God which leads me to believe he gave his life to the Lord Jesus before he stepped into Eternity.

Gene Simmons has a special connection to Van Halen, since he and Paul Stanley “discovered" Van Halen back in the 70s and helped them get management and promotion. Of course, Gene has been reminding everyone for the last forty years that he discovered Van Halen.

I have to admit,I'm tripping out on Gene here. I had no idea Gene would be so emotional over Eddie's passing.He's always been so tactical and business like. We always heard he tried to lure Eddie into Kiss during the making of Fair Warning album but beyond that I didn't think he and Ed were close. I mean Gene really is having a hard time here. I respect that. I mean Gene's showing his emotional side and its not often you see that. But like all of us I think Eddie had a real effect on him,he knows its awful whats happened. RIP Eddie. Hurts a whole lot right now.

But his contributions to the world is a gold standard that manufacturers, industrial,and home owners use to this day. If you could interview a guitar it would probably say." Thanks Eddie. Because of you, I am made better. Sound better. And I play allot better now. My possibilities are now endless. And all while staying in tune". Even what he did to his amps and pedals are another discussion. It's pretty insane. And he never beat his chest about it.
