Bike. I've got a bike, you can ride it if you like It's got a basket, a bell that rings And things to make it look good I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world I'll give you anything, everything if you want things (Syd Barrett)
Probably my favorites from Syd's era are Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive. But I like Paintbox as a deeper cut. It's another one with Richard singing the lead and Syd singing backup. For a real trip, try "Walk with Me Sidney" from 1965. It has Syd, Roger and Juliette Gale singing the leads.
It's gratifyin' to see yer total appreciation o' this rare 'n wondrous masterpiece. What is astoundin' to me is it was NEVER RELEASED officially until 2016 'n until then it seemed impossible it would ever see the light o' day. The powers that be inside the Pink Floyd hierarchy were obviously opposed to this song ever becomin' available. Thank goodness cooler heads prevailed 'n now the world can hear Scream Thy Last Scream!
Astronome Domine live on the Ummagumma album (did you do that already?) Vegetable Man Matilda Mother See Emily Play Jugband Blues Syd’s solo stuff is amazing too 😊
Try Arnold Layne coupled with Candy And A Current Bun as this was their first single. Also 'Lucy Leave' a 1965 or 1966 track with Syds vocals fantastic
Absolutely one of my favourite Syd-era songs. The lyrics are wonderful and colourful and twisted, so very Syd, and. I usually scream along to it. Fantastic ❤ That whole compilation (in the thumbnail) is worth dipping into.
I recommend that you dive into Syd Barrett's solo LP's. His second LP 'Barrett' is essentially a Pink Floyd album, Produce by Gilmore and Wright, featuring David on Bass and Wright on Keyboards, and Jerry Shirly from Humble Pie on drums. My favorite track being Wined and Dined
You can basically picture the scene when the people at EMI heard this: "What the ever-living f*ck"? That's why they eventually went with Rick's "Apples and Oranges" and "Paint Box", pretty much of out of desperation. This song and "Vegetable Man" were a regular part of the PF bootleg/rarities markets in the 70's and 80s, since they weren't given an official release until years later. I agree it's a fascinating period in PF history. Syd was quickly becoming a casualty of the psychedelic drug scene, but his decline as a songwriter and performer forced the other three to step up to fill the void. Once Dave Gilmour came on board in December they had yet another songwriter who was obviously miles ahead of Syd as a guitar player. It made the transition period that is documented on 'A Saucerful of Secrets' actually end up being positive for the band, when it probably would have crushed any others.
I've known this song since the 80's from bootlegs, but never knew that Nick Mason was on lead vocal . Syd must have not been in the studio at the time. There is a 2018 vinyl bootleg called, Pink Floyd - Recorded for BBC. It features the bands live in the studio 1960s BBC recordings. Scream Thy Last Scream is one of the tracks. The December 1967 BBC version does not have the chipmunk backing vocal.
What is your favorite Syd era Floyd track?
Apples and Oranges
"Candy And A Current Bun', 'Vegetable Man' and ''Bike' are all wonderfully psych and some of his best work
@@johnewart1635 Those too 👍🏻
It’s No Good Trying from Syd solo album.
Bike.

Paintbox is a gem!

If you have any other Floyd tracks you'd think I'd like, leave em' here! I want more! Lol
Astronome Domine live on the Ummagumma album (did you do that already?)
Vegetable Man
Matilda Mother
See Emily Play
Jugband Blues

Agree his 2 solo albuns are very interesting, maybe for another day
@ Let’s Roll Another One
See Emily Play is my favorite Barrett era Floyd song.
it's hard to bop to this at times because of the weird time signatures, but that was syd.
There's a couple good sounding live shows with Syd that are Holy Grail material.
I wondered what happened? Well, I think even for the 60s this was just too off the wall weird. It’s amazing how fresh it feels for 2024.
An interesting sample of Syd Barrett💎 And early Roger, Richard, with Nick singing! Thank you, John E.
Love Syds songs
1967 is my favourite musical year especially psych pop and rock can't beat it
I don't know how to feel about this. It's very weird. But, I think I love it.
A very trippy Syd song from Floyd. Thanks John E and Lee.

Also 'Lucy Leave' is excellent
@@johnewart1635That too. I cannot disagree with any suggestions, as I love it all.
Yes agree the compilation 1965-67 this song features from is very good too
Always a journey into the unknown. Thanks John E for the trip! Thanks L33 for putting it into perspective. Blessings all.
Richard was the back bone of Pink Floyd. JMO
David's the GOAT in so many categories for me, but Rick's the key to the kingdom, I agree.
This would have never been played on AM in 67 or 68, this only would have been played on underground FM, at least in the US.
Waiting for someone to hit this one! If you haven't heard Vegetable Man that is a must as well. This stuff just blazes!
Vegetable Man is something else almost other worldly
That was trippy! The vocals were very out there. I honestly never gave this era of Pink Floyd a listen. A change is needed ... 😂😂😂
original & best
Loved this ... thanks John E and Lee

I didn't hear this until P2P happened (napster) in the early 2000s. I like it, but a composer friend more knowledgeable than I am loved it.

Syd wrote “Apples and Oranges”. Rick wrote “Paintbox”, though, yes.

Syd did the chipmunk vocals, as well as the lead vocal for the line “she’ll be scrubbing bubbles on all fours”.
I like progressive and experimental stuff. Very cool.
