Who's the best guitarist? Who's the best opera singer? A stratosphere we got no business judging, just appreciating. Lee, your skill for eliciting comments is kinda awesome
I think so. Found a YT of a BBC show early 1967 Jimi playing Manic Depression actually live in the studio. The video is not all great but the sound is good. ruclips.net/video/mEJh9hFgoGY/видео.html
🌸 I don't think I've ever mentioned it yet, but my aunt , when she was in college in Seattle, knew jimi , and I guess used to go with some of his other friends and what not you know sit on the floor and listen to and play at his place... Way Way back in the day. I always thought it was pretty cool.
Wonderful choices Lee. Especially that incredible rendition of "I Don't Live Today". The original is a sleeper classic from the Are You Experienced album, but this San Diego live version is on another level. The word genius is thrown around way too often, but in Jimi's case, it's an understatement. He was a true musical genius. His ability to harness and control the feedback has never cover close to being matched.
So good to see,as I did,in those days, younger people hear his narrative on the guitar, you didn,t need words, just listen,no drugs either,he would take you somewhere else, pure genius
Dude you made my day.I bought this album in the 70s.Listen to the ghosts and spirits coming out of the Marshalls towards the end of I Don't Live Today.Way beyond just guitar playing. This was a special song to Jimi due to his Cherokee blood
You can feel how personal it is just through his guitar . . Definitely reminds me of the carnage of machine gun. He was just on another plane…. Incredible
I've got this new Hendrix in the West CD, the original I Don't Live Today was on the Are You Experienced album in the UK, he often played it live and always a bit different, this is a good version. Nobody else did anything like this.
I'm a whole day behind in watching reactions, but seeing Jimi, he jumped to the head of the list. He's just so good. Regardless of what he plays, he never looses the musicality. Lots of groups can do 20 minutes of screeching and feedback, but Jimi puts them all to shame. Great commentary, L33 as always. Blessings and joy to all.
You called it, L33! A powerful political statement by the master in terms of both music and lyrics, second only to Machine Gun. Nothing like it had ever been heard when the orginal studio version came out on Are You Experienced.
I have to hear the studio cut now. I tried before but it was blocked. This was the only one I could get up. But, it was so damn good. But honestly it is kind of … vicious…. But I like that. The subject matter calls for it to be almost frightening sounding like the wounded screams of an entire people
Looking forward to this one. I saw Jimi at the Isle of Wight festival 1970. But now for something completely different, but just as powerful. The Welsh singer Shirley Bassey singing Gold Finger ( a James Bond theme) live at the Royal Albert Hall 1974. It's just WOW!! And I guarantee you will want to give it a replay, or more.
Been loving 'Jimis' music for fifty plus years, there are many exceptional guitar players! But don't try and compare them to 'Hendrix ' ! , he stands alone, he really was the first and the last of the 'Space age Bluesmen ' !!...
That eerie feedback sequence chills me every time. It makes me imagine ghosts or spirits in turmoil. And just before the drums back in, that wailing/moaning notes are heartbreaking.
Been mentioned before, but he quoted Tomorrow Never Knows of The Beatles in it, and others… he stormed into controlled chaos, then Mitch somehow caught up again. I don’t think another drummer could be what he was to Jimi. Keith Moon would have been very interesting. But Mitch had that jazz-thing, he adapted on the fly… And Noel with those broad bass notes kept it together. Weirdly, but this time they did their most intense concerts, The JH Experience, during April/May 1969, IMO. The band was falling apart then too, would split up soon after, and the frustration was in the music. But the brilliance as well, pushing everything to its limits, the sounds and rhythms, the amps, themselves too.
I used to joke that I was 3 degress of separation from Jimi Hendrix. A good friend played with Little Richard, so he worked with the guy who fired Jimi from Little Richard's band.
I never heard that version of I Don't Live Today which is on the UK release of Are You Experienced. The vinyl release of In the West didn't have it or Fire on the album. There is a great version of Blue Suede Shoes which has little resemblance to the original on it though.
No, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Brian May, Stevn Stills and others and newer.. Jimi is in a category of it's own. Can't compare. totally different world. .
Is Jimi the best guitarist ever? What do you think about that...
Yes
I don't just think it, I know he is. He was the complete package and the most creative and imaginative of them all. He was a one-off.

For me, yes, by a multiverse
One of Hendrix's best... some people know the hits, most don't really know Hendrix. He was a revolutionary. In more ways than one.

Unrivalled genius, dont compare Jimi to anyone

Wow... that was haunting.
A true classic! Many great versions out there!
Beauty how he could do something this loose and still deliver so precisely the actual studio recording.

Love Shirley Bassey's song but in the movie Bond's character is revealed to be a completely worthless sexist asshole
great live version of I Don't Live Today! dbl ♥
I admire Jimi Hendrix’ independent spirit.
That was wild 😅 Hendrix knows no limits.
This songs is one of around five songs I like whit him , but I has lernd to listen more too his music the last years.

🤯 Mind blown as always. 🎸🎶🎶. Good find and great reaction L33! ☮️❤️🎶
Really great! (thought I heard the drums do a bit of In-A-Godda-Da-Vida )
Two monster tracks from his debut!! Long-time faves to hear and to play. Jimi live is his mind and creativity flowing, unleashed.
✌🏼😁🎶❤️🍁❤️🎄🥃✨️🕊
I don‘t live today is in my Top 10 of Jimis live performances.
That eerie feedback sequence chills me every time. It makes me imagine ghosts or spirits in turmoil. And just before the drums back in, that wailing/moaning notes are heartbreaking.
A tour de force by Jimi.
It has the same effect on me as machine gun did basically… almost leaves you trembling by the end!
This is new for me too! L33, thanks L33!! Fantastic… In the West…the tracks we were missing from the original Vinyl!
Now I got the new Cd … and very happy… with another version of ‘ Little wing’
But it is not superior to the 1972 release…
To be reviewed please. 🙏
L33 , No one touches Jimi , no one ❤️🔥
The oppression of the native American (Jimi's grandmother was cherokee) and protest of the Vietnam War rolled up into one incredible performance.
Axis album cover - Jimi wants a native American vibe. WASPs gave him 'Indian'
Its almost like a call from the void at points...

I just thought of a very underrated but awe som band Collective Soul. December and Shine❤. You will be blown away. Merry Christmas 🎄

The more i think about it i think hendrix was knocked for the same reasons Malcom x mlk and Kennedy were killed
paul mccartney old siam sir
Watch the live version from the film of the Royal Albert Hall gig. Better sound, playing and on film
Lee.... You are going to pick up a guitar and change the world....
He said his dad was a guitarist. Leave the skins behind Lee. The dark side calls.
One can only dream…. But maybe I will. Maybe this comment is the one that does it.
Haha I can’t leave the kit. But I can practice guitar easier then getting a kit and trying to fit it somewhere in my trailer lol
I don't live today Jimi dedicated to the American Indian Jimi has a little Cherokee blood you think black people had it bad think again
