Buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride. Jim just pulls you into the fragile madness, so great. Thanks for playing this, L33. It is so worth the trip that was The Doors, such wonderful musicians. Loved your reaction, L33, it was perfect. RIP Jim. Blessings all.
Saw The Doors at The Roxy for $5.99 in L.A. It was AMAZING! Jim Morrison did a poem but it wasn't this. The concert was awesome and lasted for 4 hours. And I became friends with Ray Manzarek the keyboardist. We were friend up to his death.
For those unfamliar, the Felt Forum was tucked in next to the larger venue, Madison Square Garden. It went through name changes over the years. I think it is still there.
Last time i was there it was called the Paramont theater. That was about 7 years ago Jeff Beck was playing. Also saw the Who play there around the same time.
The original concept for the doors album "Waiting for the Sun" was to have "Celebration of the Lizard" on the complete side of side two. Their record label would not have it. But, "Not to touch the Earth" was used and some of the poem was printed on the cover.
They simply weren’t satisfied with the results of the studio recording. It wasn’t possible to achieve the same mood as during the concerts. So, they decided to give up the idea and use only “Not To Touch The Earth” part. In the latter bonus editions of the album, the unfinished version complete suite was included.
If you enjoyed this, and I know you did, you'll need to listen to the "Ghost Song" song the the posthumous Doors album (basically the remaining Doors playing over Jim reciting poems he wrote) 'An American Prayer'. It's a short song but very well put together.
That was a fabulous jump into the Jim Morrison portal of strange, mystical, scary and haunting music, I didn’t want to jump out. Thanks, Lee, needed a good bit of ‘70’s atmosphere…and you got it!
Wow , Shit !! , that still sounds awesome, loved it Bigtime back in my teenage years in the 70s! Haven't heard it for decades, but seriously that's probably definitely the greatest ever live recording of any band ? , tell me that I'm wrong! What poetry, what a voice, what a Band, unbelievable energy and passion, what a timeless experience it still Is!! I've still got the original vinyl, might have to put it under the mattress on my bed for some inspired dreams!!.... Great reaction Lee !!.....
I consider Ray Manzarek, Rick Wakeman, & John Paul Jones as the best keyboardists in music History.Jim Morrison was a Shaman or considered himself "a Shaman" and the members of the band were instruments of his shamanic ways of expressing truths in songs and acts on stage which were ritualistic, many times Jim Morrison and the members of his band were naked on stage performing these ritual rock operas or music scenes that they practice from a vision or dream Jim experienced from a Coke or LSD trip! Most bands from the 60's and 70's wrote music and lyrics out of LSD or Coke or Mushroom trips!!!! lol Good reaction
From that same disc set, I would LOVE for you to play Magie M'Gill! It's a laid-back blues with a grove that will play over and over in your head for the rest of the day, and you won't get tired of it. - BUT - Caution is advised: It's highly addictive! You'll be playing it over and over and over... Sit back, relax, just listen and forget about the world. John Sebastian on harmonica. To help set the mood, play the 30 second or so track before it where the band is kinda slipping subtly into the song. This is nothing like the track from the Morrison Hotel album.
"You can tell that Jim Morrison was "an old soul", though he died 'young" in "this life". Morrison was a poet and a storyteller, I have his book of poems. "Shadows of the trees, witnessing the wild breeze" is my favorite lyric form "Not to touch the earth". I was wondering why you and many other "youtubers" rarely react or listen to the doors song >"Not to touch the earth" (not this live one) song, it is my top favorite, along with "The Soft Parade" song. I hope you will react and listen to "Not to touch the earth" song from the 'Waiting for the sun" album, separate from this one that is in this live version of "The Celebration of the lizard", as Jim's vocals and Robbie's guitar work is sooooo good!!.
Gidday, a very bold reaction, well done! I personally prefer the version on Absolutely Live but I understand there may have been studio clean ups on that version. Cheers.
Jan Van Impe 4 remarks !! 1) so happy you took this version and not the one on "absolutely live" 2)to understand a little bit more about the mind of Jim and this song, you should buy and read his poetry book called "The Lords and the new creatures" the first part (the lords) is philosophical but understandable. the second part (the new creatures) is.... well,he really is trying to create a new world, mixed with mythology, but it's hard to understand for simple minds(like me) 3)Morisson hotel is their 4th album. You forgot the 3th album "Waiting for the sun" !!!!!! 4)(like i said before, but i repeat) after jim died, Ray,Robby and John made 3 albums and especially one song is very long and beautiful: "ships w/sails"
How much music do you hear that you fear is truly dangerous, like “Should I really allow this to enter into my skull?”? What if I can’t find my way back to where I was before? And you did it anyway! What does it tell you about -----?
Hey brother, you've got to react to their "American Prayer" album, the remaining Doors put it together after Jim's death, using some live bits from what was played here in this vid. They used a lot of Jim's spoken word recordings and poems to sort of piece together the story of Jim's life
not my fave stuff of the doors, not this, not horse latitudes, no messages here, no deeper meaning. this ain't the doors best stuff for everyone. I have heard all their material over and again for decades and I don't go back to this on purpose. gimme LA Woman or many other doors tracks and I am happy.
Why do no one react to Buffy st Marie? Is it because she is native American and you are all ashamed of the genocide commited against those people? Will someone please have the courage to react to "my country"(tis of thy people your dying), or "bury my heart at wounded knee". How stupid of me to even suggest such a thing.
hey brother, put the drug pipe down and chill, lol....and Canadian investigative reporting found out she's not Native American. But the rest of what you say is true, this country has a big wound that won't heal until we address the original sins: genocide and slavery
I love Buffy St. Marie and I agree with you ,she has so many great songs, I have her album "Moonshot" one of the best albums I've ever heard, every song is so good. Yes,>"My country tis of thee you are dying". Are you familiar with Native American Indian singer and performer Robert Mirabal?
I suggested you listen to this about a month ago, the one off the absolutely live album is the best recorded version. Check it out once you listen to it that'll be the ultimate version you go back to.
A very adventurous pick. You’re willing to take chances and I love it!
One of the best song of Doors🤘

Wow man Heavy Trip!!!....
Finally, it's happening.
Absolutely Live
This was a very cool reaction and commentary ❤
“Is everybody in? The ceremony is about to begin.” ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
Mr. Mojo ... this is them at the strangest point in their catalog. And yes, it is glorious. Great review, Lee. You get it!
Ladies and Gentlemen…..The Doors “ !!!!!!
Uh oh! Enjoy Bro, this is the big one! So glad I bought all the Doors boxes. Only sold one, the "Boot Yer Butt" box set.

Live from the Lizard Kingdom
The word you were searching for was "ceremony" (at 20:17).
That left my brain like a plate of mashed potatoes
Well, that was, ummm, different ... but I enjoyed it

Thank You man. Have not heard this version. I’m glad I was alive (born in 1968) when they performed this masterpiece.
That was a really great performance of this piece - they’re all so good.
That was a fabulous jump into the Jim Morrison portal of strange, mystical, scary and haunting music, I didn’t want to jump out. Thanks, Lee, needed a good bit of ‘70’s atmosphere…and you got it!

These guys were so ahead of the curve 😮

I like Spanish Caravan very much.
OMG that was nuts 😳
Jim‘s got a brain ticket.

$5.50 was a fair amount to pay for a concert in 1970. If nothing else, proves Morrison was artisticlly ambitious
Theatrically brilliant
Wake Up!

Damn it, i think a just had a flashback from my acid dropping days, 😂 woohoo!!
It’s about time you did this one! Lol
I am the Lizard King. I can do anything.
You literally picked the best version. This smokes the studio demo, and every other live version.

2)to understand a little bit more about the mind of Jim and this song, you

The ultimate doors
It’s just beautiful, I haven’t heard this in a long time. In a similar vein you should listen to the LP ‘An American Dream’ by the Doors
Wow. I don't even know what to say. I feel like I just got brainwashed 😂

Who else would do something like this? Anyone trying?
Once i had a little game ...
He could have been cult leader. Mind boggling
