"A classic is a work that has never finished saying what it has to say". - This is the definition of a classic given by Italian writer Italo Calvino.

      OH, Good Lord!
I’m so tired of whining. In any event, when I was little, I listened to the Beatles’ albums all the way thru and until Pink Floyd was given to me, I never experienced that with any band. Animals, I listened to 3-times and cranked my stereo up loud enough for my parental units to talk all about the album later at dinner…they loved it too, thank God!! But your’e absolutely right! All-At-Once for the message, and to have the full effect. Thanks for your comment!! ❤❤

As a lifetime guitarist I can sell you a HUGE musical clue... there will always be " Shred " guitarists... very technical and fast ie. Malmsteen, Rhoades, Van Halen, etc, etc but very few guitarists can play so FEW notes and get the same amount of emotion out if it as David Gilmour. I love the others but Gilmour has a one of a kind ability in " economy " playing.

    • @Buddha-of8fk

    • @pulsarlights2825

I think it's more difficult to play Gilmour and get it to sound right...The way he bends notes perfectly is tough to duplicate 100%. When you shred it's easy to cover up and ignore mistakes...Just my $.02..

Ohohoh Stacey! I really start loving you more with each day and reaction (you are exactly as emotional as me when it comes to music - and I am a hobby musician of many genres), you do a phantastic job!!!! I was just watching something else on RUclips and what do I see?! You did Dogs! Oh myyyyy Animals has been my all time fav album since I first heard it in school in 1985. Now I have to tell you a little story:
One year later I was in London for a school exchange from our Swiss high school and found out, that this "factory" on the cover was there, but had no idea where exactly. And don't forget, that was before the internet! On my last day in the city I spotted the smokestacks in the background, took a look at the map and saw it: Battersea Power Station. I grabbed my friend who wanted to become a photographer and forced him to come with me to the trip south of the Thames. After a one hour walk through the seediest neighbourhood I ever saw til then (I was a 17 year old Swiss schoolboy :D) we arrived there. It was abandoned, so we climed the fence and took some pics. Since then I regularly came back to London and no trip, if shopping, theater, business related or visting friends is complete for me without visiting "the factory". Nowadays it's not recognizable anymore as it is one of the most posh and modern neighbourhoods of the city.
As Dogs is most of Side 1 of the album, you could have done the whole concept with Pigs and Sheep on Side 2 :D

Some context of the album Animals and the songs meanings:
Loosely based on George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm, the album's lyrics describe various classes in society as different kinds of animals: the predatory dogs, the despotic ruthless pigs, and the "mindless and unquestioning” herd of sheep. Whereas the novella focuses on Stalinism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which, in the words of author Glenn Povey, "described the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of mere animals"
These dogs are the cutthroat businessmen who feel they “have to be trusted by the people that [they] lie to / So that when they turn their backs on [the dogs] / [they]'ll get the chance to put the knife in”.

Where do I start with this masterpiece. It has been deeply ingrained life for 20 years. When I was in high school I would go to sleep to this song playing on my surround sound I built in my bedroom every night for years. It was part of my nighttime ritual. It is up there as one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs ever. More recently however I played this song while I was putting to sleep my beloved 16yo pit Bull Bean Sprout. I haven’t been able to listen to the song since that day 6 months ago. Thank you Stacey for helping reintroduce it back into my life with such appreciation and joy. This song NEVER gets old and is the definition of infectious. I can’t wait to see your reaction to the rest of this incredible album. BTW please research Roger Waters, he is the brain child of nearly all Pink Floyd and half the vocal genius on this song. He also wrote the whole album.

The moment you listen to this, and realize that there were no dogs barking, only David rubbing strings on his guitar while playing with the wha wha peddle, is the moment minds are blown. This song was supposed to be on the Wish You Were Here album. Its original name was 'You Got to be Crazy' and was removed from the list of songs for Wish You Were Here after Syd's visit. This composition was meant to be one of the 3 compositions to follow up Darkside of the Moon, as the band wasn't happy with Darkside and felt they left a lot to be improved on. At the end of the Darkside tour, they played some gigs in Europe for nearly 2 years, working on these 3 compositions which they had planned on making an album with them. The Animals album is their epic form IMHO.
Love the reactions, remember to keep a watch for pigs on the wings.

I can see that.... I can see them being at odds with Darkside, despite it being so enormously popular.. I can see them considering DSoM too.. radio friendly maybe.. too accessible too pop even. which is why Animals is such a ..oh.. such a F.U. to the record and music industry.. and label as they were undoubtedly pushing for more radio friendly songs and Animals is anything but that. For me - Pompeii (the first one) is Pink at their height.. at their most powerful.. playing an empty stadium even

The folks below are all giving you good clues to the music. Once Dark Side came out they were thrown into the musical world of the music business touring worldwide and being taken advantage of. The album "Wish You Were Here" started the bands "hatred" of the music business. This album takes that idea feeling hate for the music business to a peak. Dogs represents the people who are pushing the band in order to fill their greedy bags with money from PF. You are right on about the song "record business individuals and their greed" plus your thoughts about who they were talking about. Cheers, K

Love your reaction and enjoying vicariously your first listen to Dogs from Animals. My first listen to Pink Floyd was after riding my bicycle (too young to drive) to buy the album Dark Side of the Moon when it came out. I have been getting so much joy essentially rediscovering this music that I first heard as a young person through the reactions of young people today listening for the first time.
Our collective experience of Pink Floyd indeed renders their music "timeless", and in essence bonds our generations to a degree. Thanks for featuring Pink Floyd, I really enjoyed it.

Im sure fans have already outlined this butnas amazing as this album the predecessor to the wall and eventually the final cut was Roger Water's journey into alienating himself from not only the band but also the fans "who was told not to spit at the fans, who was told what to do by the band" Rogers wanted to build a wall around him and the fans hence the album title the wall was born although the album as successful as it was and the less successful album The Final Cut were all about Rogers Dad in the 2nd world war the rest of the band hated it but agree they never realised how successful the wall would become........im so touched at how you have opened your heart and allowed Floyd to infect it get emotional watching your emotions listening to their songs for the first time and i feel like im transported.back to my first experience God bless you Stacey xx
