It’s truffle dude, different to the European rare and expensive type that grows deep in the ground, this grows on the surface of the desert and not as flavoursome, but very nice nonetheless you should try it.
I heard Iraqis are some of the kindest people to tourists; they would even gift their shirts on your back for you. Western media is powerful, I am a Christian, so I am glad there are videos like this that help us open our hearts and minds to our Muslim brothers.

I spent a total of 4 tours in Iraq. Being born in Nicaragua and seeing what war does to a country. I’m so happy that the Iraqi people are doing well. I hope one day I can Visit Iraq. The people I interacted while I was deployed were always kind.
I spent two years there and I’ve always wanted to go back and visit the places I was posted. Spent 6 months in Najaf and 5 months in Al Hit (not far from Fallujah) in 05 and then 9 months in Ballad in 07/08. I know ISIS ended up taking control of our old patrol base in Al Hit, it was surreal to see their flag flying over the building I lived in for so long. We lived with a company of Iraqi army and we got pretty close to those guys. I made friends I still talk to today over the internet, one of them ended up immigrating here and has a family now. Najaf was a beautiful city in 05 I’m sure it’s even better now.
The truffle grows in the desert as a result of dirt and rain, but it is not in the form of a plant, but you have to dig in order to get it, and if it is left in the ground for a long time, it becomes dust
The kama or jama is a type of wild mushroom that grows in the desert and is pretty popular in Iraq and Syria as well as some some Arabian gulf countries. It has a very distinctive taste, similar to meat and is extremely high in protein. The collectors make a hefty profit as the price gets as high as $40/KG depending on the quality and size.
I am from Fallujah, and we do not hate anyone as it is said about us, and all this is because of the politics that made the world judge Iraq without even visiting it or browsing about it, and he thought that we were dangerous, unfortunately, which made very few come to visit us, but I just say welcome to Iraq
I fought in the Battle Of Fallujah in November of 2004 with the US Army. First, I want to say, I hope all is good there in Fallujah and for the people there. I have to ask though; why were foreign fighters from Syria, Jordan and surrounding countries allowed in your city to establish a stronghold to fight against Americans. I personal saw torture devices and equipment that was used on the people of Fallujah by these terrorist. The blood of Fallujians all over the walls….. it was horrible. Why would a slight amount of Fallujians want to fight against America? We were there to help you. It was horrible watching your town have to evacuate and people leave their homes. Lines and lines of cars leaving the city. It was heartbreaking watching your city be destroyed by both sides.
I have a message to the Americans: Look the reality of Iraqi people after a war since 1991 with USA.. In your media they are showing how bad we are but look and open your eyes to see how people of Iraq love Americans and all people who want to visit Iraq. We are not like other nations you know why? Because we are people from a lot of civilisations, we are people of Iraq. We are the history & we are the future. We will welcome you and show you the real hospitality Regards,
Thank you Doug and Mohammed for showing a new life for all our brother muslim in Fallujah in Peace again . Where years ago almost everyday i was watching the battle video between terrorist isis with IRAQI military govt. Alahmdulilla war was end, hope will not any war again. The Iraqi should respect each others both Sunni and Shiah. The world Only a Test. The true reward and happiness is in the hereafter. Much love from Indonesia.
@Doug. I loved the video, just wanted to explain that the fungi (Chima) they were offering you is a type of desert truffle. It's found in large quantities in the desert especially after lightning storms,.
Nice video Doug, thanks for portraying Fallujah as what it truly is rather than stereotypes from old times. I've been in this city and I fought in it when I was in the Iraqi 9th armored division, the city was truly devastated back in ISIS war, the local government has done an impressive work to rebuild it. Also watching your video made me want some Falluja Keebab lol, I think they're pretty famous for it, might go there once I'm off duty. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Iraq, you're welcome here any time.
This is absolutely amazing to watch. I'm not going to lie...I was in absolute fear for you both all through this video. It was not a friendly town when I was there last in 2005. It was interesting to see the smiling faces on the street. No one smiled in that town when I was there. I'm glad that peace has found the city and its people. The construction and progress is astounding! I can not believe how beautiful the mall is. I almost had a panic attack seeing the blackwater bridge in the background of the cafe...I was almost killed by a sniper in that same area. I wonder if Jolan Park still exists? Thank you for sharing this...one day I would like to return and meet with the people of the city under much better circumstances.
Hi, although I’m young, but 2005 wasn’t the best year at that time, lots of people were killed for no reason and I lost my father during that year. So it’s the reason why no one has smiled at your face. However, you’re welcome now! Iraqi people are so emotional and warm hearted so they forget quickly and turn back to being nice. They’re also very understanding when it comes to the difference between a government and civilians. Don’t worry anymore.
Ezra S… Thank you for your kind reply. I am very sorry for the loss of your father. I wish I could go back 20 years and change the course of events that brought me to your country and the city of Fallujah. I have and I will always hope for the best for the people of Iraq. I had been out of the Marines for 7 years and when Isis came to Iraq I rejoined the Marines to go fight so that Iraq could be freed from Isis. It warms my heart to see Fallujians prospering and the city rebuilding. One day I would love to meet with and talk to the people of that city and enjoy their hospitality. Peace to you all.
I love watching your videos because they give my country its reality in front of others and once again when you come to Karbala I would like to meet you

They gave wound and then apply cream on it is known as Americans . Because iraqi peoples are very innocent. I am from India. us never harm us because we are innocent but as well as we use our brain . You fights with each other that's why america or others countries take advantage of that . What happen with saddam Hussein it was a pre planned murder . I don't know about him very deeply but i read about saddam Hussein he always help Palestinians peoples and he was trying to make iraq a great powerful country. I don't know my iraqi brothers like saddam or not but as i read about saddam he was a good man . I really love him nd feeling sad for our brothers and sisters who is suffering in Palestine 😢
@@Workkingforjannah no, Saddam was so good man either. Read about the campaign of Al Anfal and Halabja Massacre that he carried out and how he completely dried out the rivers that passed thru the Marsh Arabs areas which didn't like him, read on Marsh Arabs too. Read on what he did to the Kurds and Shia Muslims and how many people including father of Muqtada Sadr he assassinated. Read what a beast his son Uday was and what he would do to people to torture them as well. His image to put Iraqi Christians known as Assyrians or Chaldeans as his favorite and he used to spend millions of dollars to fund their churches in the US to have a great image in the Christian Belt of America worked a trick and used Tariq Aziz, his minister (who was a Christian) as his right hand as his aide in war crimes is also pretty known. Imagine, ki||ing own countrymen but trying to show sympathy for Palestinians? That's how these politicians have been using Islam as their tool to trick innocent people. Same goes for Iran, see what it did to its own children for protesting last year by hanging most of them and then talking about Palestinian cause!? Same for Sauds who indiscriminately b0mbed Yemenis last year and k1lled some half a million Yemeni in revenge for Houthi attacks, the entire Muslim world turned a blind eye on the Yemeni plight. Then Iran and Sauds patched up and millions who lost their lives is lost in the shroud of mystery. I would request you to sometimes read from a neutral stance or also from the other side of the fence as it gives you a better grasp at reality. Politics is the root cause of everything. Imagine, how Pakistanis harmed Baloch, do you know the largest number of missing people found on Earth are in Balochistan. Nobody knows where they are missing as they but the truth is any suspicious activity and their military erases the existence. Same happened along the KPK area of Pakistan where so many Pashtun people were tortured for being simply Pashtun and allies of Taliban when it annexed the KPK area. This is what the world is not seeing that how politicians are misusing religion as a tool to pit their own people and talk about Palestinians. Please, don't worry, I am not a Hindu nor a Islam hater. I only wanted you to know these facts. Best wishes.
Chumah grows in winter time when the thunder hits the ground and no one knows how or why did that happen, some says that when the lightning hits it works with soil’s elements and makes it, it taste very nice similar to the taste of meat and very nutritious , l remember when we were kids and my mum used to cook it for us, but now here in London we don’t have it , but some times we find it in South Kingston high class food shops and they sell the one kilo gram of it for £500.- or £350.- depending on quality and size

I heard Iraqis are some of the kindest people to tourists; they would even gift their shirts on your back for you. Western media is powerful, I am a Christian, so I am glad there are videos like this that help us open our hearts and minds to our Muslim brothers.
One of the best videos that I witness are the videos of Brother Doc. Because it explains the history of the city he visits and shows the beautiful side of the city. I wish you a nice trip.
Looks.at the Americans here with sweet words after USA bombed Iraq back to the stone age
The collectors make a hefty profit as the price gets as high as $40/KG depending on the quality and size.
it's called " desert Truffle" .

Thank you for sharing this...one day I would like to return and meet with the people of the city under much better circumstances.
thank you so much for watching and sharing your experience!

Thank you for your kind reply.
