The honest commentary and footage from both higher ranks and grunts is what every documentary should show. I especially love the men reflecting on what they were thinking back then. I was living in Kuwait and my husband was a contractor in Iraq. His highs and lows were palpable. Thank-you for this thoughtful work!

I served with Charlie Company 1st LAR in OIF1. I love these guys all my brothers. most of them I am seeing tonight to celebrate the Marine Corps 249th birthday. No better group of warriors to be with in a fight.
I went to vocal with Schmitz and Steziak. I ended up at Bravo. If you see either of them tell them Torres said what's up. I still remember getting recalled from Christmas leave in 02 because we at Bravo thought we were going. Then, last minute they told us it was Charlie got the nod.
I was in the Army from 09-16 and on a deployment in Afghanistan, we had a guy named SPC Acey who got out of the Marine Corps and joined the Army. He received 2 Purple Hearts in Fallujah. He would not go to the promotion board just so he could always be the gunner in the lead gun truck every mission. There was absolutely no doubt about it that SPC Acey was the best gunner we had in the entire company. He left all of us with an enormous amount of respect for the amazing warfighters the Marine Corps produces.
Please forgive my ignorance... "Gunner in the lead truck". So he's the guy sticking out of the top of whatever vehicle he's in and operating a mounted fifty calibur machine gun? Right? What made him better? Accuracy, aggressiveness, awareness? I've never been close to combat so I understand hardly any of it.

I'm already dead. The moment I accepted that was the moment that saved my psyche. I didn't go through what these heroes did. I was a pog who just got shot at all the time, but the realization that I would never hear what killed me actually gave me peace. I rolled through route Irish three or four times a week, but accepting that I was already dead gave me peace. Now I live like I don't deserve it. I'm home now and I cherish every day with the people who love me. 2003 OIF. May God bless those who fought and died for those they loved.
You deserve to live more then me my friend. I wasn't able to serve I wanted to but wasn't accepted due to court cases I had open at the time as a stupid teenager. I had already signed the papers only for it too come back and be denied. I went on to live a wasteful life full of drugs and bs now I'm getting old and dealing with health issues from all the abuse. I'm grateful for my days and kids but I'm my mind I know I have no real reason to feel proud or deserving. You guys on the other hand are fully. Thank you. My father's name was sfc randy McCaulley.. he was killed March 23 2006 in Fallujah Iraq. I would love to see some sort of documentary about him and his guys.. My cousin just got out of the marines. They were trying to get him to stay in and become an officer but he didnt want to. He got married didnt want to put all the stress and pressure of being in the middle east in danger all the time on his wife. So he decided to get out.

As a Marine that was with 1st Battalion 8th Marines Alpha Company and I was one of the bad wounded on the 11th and I am pretty sure I did a short LAV ride as part of my med vac and Thank you Brothers and Semper Fi.
As a Fellow Higlander and Warpig Marine, I will say that I came to the unit when these warriors were forward in the thick of it. I have served with them in one aspect or another, and this video makes me proud to have served within the LAR community. Thank you BRCC for showing the true aspects, comradery, faith in one another no matter the cost, and most of all the love for one another willing to sacrifice ones life for your brother Semper Fi!

I was a USMC M1A1 Abrams tanker. I always knew our tanks were bad ass at what we brought to the battlefield but I have always appreciated the LAV25 badassness as well. 25mm is no joke! Loved serving alongside you guys.
@@JoeFromTheAfternoon I remember replacing the 1812's back in 2007. I was OPCON'ed to II MEF in 2007 for 15 months. Their callsign was Heavy Metal. I remember them leaving camp ripper fallujah and firing their main guns at targets down the road from the main ECP. I was with the 3rd Infantry Division in 2007 and it was my 2nd deployment with 3rd ID.

I was D company 2nd AABN we were next to you guys. One of my most hilariously scary moments came from when we were getting shot at from a building and one of your Bradley's opened up on it from the other side of the building not only did those 25mm rounds obliterate whatever they were shooting at but it went through the building and cut between us an the vehicle in front of us. I was both in awe and scared for my life 😂
Amazing production. 20 years later and these warriors can tell of the events that happened. Im in awe of what they did in that city. Im thankful for the videos and pictures from this deployment so we can understand even more what these men were about. This is going to be a tough watch knowing these guys personally. I have pictures of Holder, Blake, and Kyle on my office wall. EDIT: since I have the top comment visibly, make sure you text and call your brothers and check in, even to just say hi. It can really make a difference, esspecially this month if you served during this time. It's a tough time of year and for some reason milestone anniversaries seem to have a greater impact. I made my orginal comment before watching and immidiately texted some of these guys after to tell them how proud I am of them for doing this. It takes courage to put yourself out there and talk about it.
And yet George Bush isn't in jail and the media and establishment treat him like he's some loving old grandpa these days instead of the war criminal he is. And his evil partner in crime Dick Cheney is being touted as some compass for law and morals being paraded around by the Democrats and media to talk about how much of a threat Trump is to this country and our democracy. Bush and Cheney should be spending the rest of their lives in prison for all the US soldiers and Iraqi civilians they got killed, all the US soldiers who were permanently maimed and all the ones who have since killed themselves since serving in this war.. My platoon was doing CASEVACs for 1/8 Bravo while that shit was going on. I have fleeting memories of LAVs getting missed by rockets by like inches, but I had no idea Warpig got rocked that hard. 20 years in a blink man.
I served in 1st LAR from 2002-2006. Did three combat deployments (including the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003). LAV-AT (loader, gunner, briefly a VC). LAV-25 as a Vehicle Commander, Scout, and ended my career as a Chief Scout (E-5). Thank you for making this video. Our story is foreign even to most Marines. The LAR community is not very understood but our capability and combat experiences should be shared.
@@ralphtorres8974 errrrr ah. I was originally assigned to Weapons Co as an 0352 (TOW gunner). Started out as a LAV-AT loader. Then gunner. Then VC. During my second and third deployments we left the AT’s behind. I was retrained as a 0351 (Assaultman). Served as a regular scout/fireteam leader. Then as a VC to replace combat losses. Then was transitioned to serve as the chief scout when our platoon had all the scout teams on the deck functioning together. Loved LAR. Love the LAV.

I am 27 yo, I remember hearing of Fallujah at an early age and it fascinated me. The idea of urban modern warfare in an unknown terrain. These guys dead or alive must have had the adrenaline that I could never experience. God bless them all.

My father, Robert O'Malley, was an original member of the 1st BN/9th Marines in Vietnam. He served 3 tours there, including the time when I was born in 1965. He never enjoyed talking about his service in Vietnam, but every story I can remember involved the soldiers and men he served with in the USMC, and the friends he made in the country of Vietnam. My dad was my hero growing up. My heros now are you. My dad committed suicide last year on 12/06/2023, primarily based on his PTSD, and the lack of help he received following his service. I hope that every one of you know that you are loved by people you have never met, and that there are people like me, who honor your service to our country, but especially, to the sacrifices you each made to the soldier next to you. I am a former enlisted man and officer of the US Army. I have seen my share of the sacrifices and death in combat from people we love, cherish, and call friends. This is a bittersweet brag but George is my cousin! I love him like a brother. I remember getting the call that he was hit in combat, it was scary. But we never heard the full story until we saw this. I’m thankful for his sacrifice and how badass he is and all his brothers are too. I’m proud of him and all the men that fought beside him. As I watched this incredible footage, I realised that I'm doing so on November 29th! This was beautiful, tragic, noble and painful in equal measure! Twenty years on, gone in the blink of an eye in one aspect, felt every minute of it in another. Thank you for giving these courageous men the opportunity to have their story published, for outsiders to get a glimpse into their lives, loves and losses! This immensely powerful documentary does these wonderful men proud, and their sharing of this time in their lives is hugely appreciated.

I think this is the best GWOT era documentary I've seen since Restrepo. An excellent mixture of archival footage and first-hand accounts. This should be required viewing before someone enters Congress or the Presidency, they need to know the consequences of war.

But this is more so on the men sent in and not the conflict itself

He is also a Marine that i went to SOI and LAV school with. We deployed to Iraq together for the initial invasion and returned back state side. A few months later he was sent on another deployment with Bravo company while we remained in Charlie Company. Our deployments were offset and he heard of our battles in Fallujah. He decided to put our stories together and produce this great film.

Had to find out on the DoD’s website about Kyle’s passing before I was able to hear about it directly from my boyfriend at the time. Had the distinct pleasure of knowing many of these Marines and Navy Corpsmen personally. The brotherhood and bond they share and their continued efforts to honor their fallen brothers is without equal. It’s been 20 years, and my respect for all these men knows no bounds.

I come from a family of Marines. I was an M60A1 crewman back in the Reagan years. I have a son currently serving in Camp Lejeune, and another who is in LAR with the 1st MarDiv as a LAV-25 crewman right now. My late father saw combat with the 1st MarDiv at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa during WW2. I'll never forget when the battle of Fallujah was ongoing, and on the news, he told me he was so proud of these young Marines, and that the Marine Corps has given nothing up in terms of still forging young men to do the impossible when asked. He said what he saw on TV led him to believe the fight for Fallujah was every bit as hard as Okinawa, or Peleliu, if not harder. He was proud to have been a 1st MarDiv Marine until the end of his days, and I only wish he could have lived long enough to see the fine Marines his grand sons have become. Today is the Marine Corps 249th birthday. Semper Fidelis brothers, and sisters. Your heroism, and suffering have become the unforgettable stuff of legends. Again.

Watched the entire doc. I was just a teenager on a dirt bike during this. The war in iraq was something we saw on the news and thought about regularly, but got sugar coated by the media. The sacrifices that were made by these men are immeasurable. To any of them or anyone like them reading this, thank you.

Armendariz is my nephew and when he entered this deployment, he wasn’t even old enough to buy beer but he was brave enough to put his own life on the line like so many other young men and women serving in the armed forces. Praise be to God for these warriors ❤

One of the toughest decisions I ever made was to retire from the Marines in 1996. It ultimately came down to being able to spend time with my family, even though they were my 2nd family. Man does this video bring back memories. I wish I had a picture of maybe day 5 in Saudi Arabia- They found a bicycle rim and made a makeshift basketball hoop. Here I was and the Brigade staff were worrying about an attack b4 we were set up and they are play homemade basketball

Watching this gives you a greater understanding of the bond between soldiers and the horrific situations they have to face head on and deal with it even when they have lost very close friends. The bravery and determination they show in trying to keep each other safe deserves an undying respect 🙏
This shit gave me goose bumps and made me tear up, I couldn't imagine going through this! As a Afghanistan war vet this shit is still crazy! I went through 2 campaigns in Afghanistan in 09 we helped take back Kabul and the outlaying areas. Then went back in 14 and did patrols and presence of force! Many of have felt the same vibe throughout the years. There are still many stories and viewpoints of others in the company too! I certainly wouldn’t doubt the possibility of reprisal projects in the future as an option to tell how the story continues after our service years…
Totally agree. ‘Generation Kill’ was great, but doesn’t hold a candle to what this story could be on the big screen or as an HBO series. Ball’s in your court, HBO. There’s a reason Fallujah has been added as another of the storied battles the Marines have fought.

The honest commentary and footage from both higher ranks and grunts is what every documentary should show. I especially love the men reflecting on what they were thinking back then. I was living in Kuwait and my husband was a contractor in Iraq. His highs and lows were palpable. Thank-you for this thoughtful work!

I served with Charlie Company 1st LAR in OIF1. I love these guys all my brothers. most of them I am seeing tonight to celebrate the Marine Corps 249th birthday. No better group of warriors to be with in a fight.
I went to vocal with Schmitz and Steziak. I ended up at Bravo. If you see either of them tell them Torres said what's up. I still remember getting recalled from Christmas leave in 02 because we at Bravo thought we were going. Then, last minute they told us it was Charlie got the nod.

I was in the Army from 09-16 and on a deployment in Afghanistan, we had a guy named SPC Acey who got out of the Marine Corps and joined the Army. He received 2 Purple Hearts in Fallujah. He would not go to the promotion board just so he could always be the gunner in the lead gun truck every mission. There was absolutely no doubt about it that SPC Acey was the best gunner we had in the entire company. He left all of us with an enormous amount of respect for the amazing warfighters the Marine Corps produces.
I met a Marine at a field hospital, lead VC driver had been hit five times and was covered in shrapnel, still yelling at his crew to ready up.

I'm already dead. The moment I accepted that was the moment that saved my psyche. I didn't go through what these heroes did. I was a pog who just got shot at all the time, but the realization that I would never hear what killed me actually gave me peace. I rolled through route Irish three or four times a week, but accepting that I was already dead gave me peace. Now I live like I don't deserve it. I had already signed the papers only for it too come back and be denied. I went on to live a wasteful life full of drugs and bs now I'm getting old and dealing with health issues from all the abuse. I'm grateful for my days and kids but I'm my mind I know I have no real reason to feel proud or deserving. You guys on the other hand are fully. Thank you. Rip to all the heroes that didn't make it home.

As a Fellow Higlander and Warpig Marine, I will say that I came to the unit when these warriors were forward in the thick of it. I have served with them in one aspect or another, and this video makes me proud to have served within the LAR community. Thank you BRCC for showing the true aspects, comradery, faith in one another no matter the cost, and most of all the love for one another willing to sacrifice ones life for your brother Semper Fi!

I was a USMC M1A1 Abrams tanker. I always knew our tanks were bad ass at what we brought to the battlefield but I have always appreciated the LAV25 badassness as well. 25mm is no joke! Loved serving alongside you guys.

I remember them leaving camp ripper fallujah and firing their main guns at targets down the road from the main ECP. I was with the 3rd Infantry Division in 2007 and it was my 2nd deployment with 3rd ID.

I was D company 2nd AABN we were next to you guys. One of my most hilariously scary moments came from when we were getting shot at from a building and one of your Bradley's opened up on it from the other side of the building not only did those 25mm rounds obliterate whatever they were shooting at but it went through the building and cut between us an the vehicle in front of us. I was both in awe and scared for my life 😂
Amazing production. 20 years later and these warriors can tell of the events that happened. Im in awe of what they did in that city. Im thankful for the videos and pictures from this deployment so we can understand even more what these men were about. I dont know how we can ever thank these troops enough for what they did, gave and went through. So strong and so young 😔

I served in 1st LAR from 2002-2006. Did three combat deployments (including the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003). LAV-AT (loader, gunner, briefly a VC). LAV-25 as a Vehicle Commander, Scout, and ended my career as a Chief Scout (E-5). Thank you for making this video. Our story is foreign even to most Marines. The LAR community is not very understood but our capability and combat experiences should be shared.
I was there at the same time. Went to Bravo in late 02, deployed with them on the 13th then went linked up with Alpha in Anbar in 04. SF.
@@ralphtorres8974 errrrr ah. I was originally assigned to Weapons Co as an 0352 (TOW gunner). Started out as a LAV-AT loader. Then gunner. Then VC. During my second and third deployments we left the AT’s behind. I was retrained as a 0351 (Assaultman). Served as a regular scout/fireteam leader. Then as a VC to replace combat losses. Then was transitioned to serve as the chief scout when our platoon had all the scout teams on the deck functioning together. Loved LAR. Love the LAV.

I am 27 yo, I remember hearing of Fallujah at an early age and it fascinated me. The idea of urban modern warfare in an unknown terrain. These guys dead or alive must have had the adrenaline that I could never experience. God bless them all.

Thank you BRCC for this documentary. To the soldiers of the USMC, I thank you for telling your story the way it needed to be told. My father, Robert O'Malley, was an original member of the 1st BN/9th Marines in Vietnam. He served 3 tours there, including the time when I was born in 1965. He never enjoyed talking about his service in Vietnam, but every story I can remember involved the soldiers and men he served with in the USMC, and the friends he made in the country of Vietnam. My dad was my hero growing up. My heros now are you. My dad committed suicide last year on 12/06/2023, primarily based on his PTSD, and the lack of help he received following his service. I hope that every one of you know that you are loved by people you have never met, and that there are people like me, who honor your service to our country, but especially, to the sacrifices you each made to the soldier next to you. I am a former enlisted man and officer of the US Army. I have seen my share of the sacrifices and death in combat from people we love, cherish, and call friends. Thank you for your commitment, service, and willingness to share you stories here. Respect, sincerely, Daniel O'Malley. PS-I inherited several packets of my dad's camera slides from his service. I remember getting the call that he was hit in combat, it was scary. But we never heard the full story until we saw this. I’m thankful for his sacrifice and how badass he is and all his brothers are too.

Thank you for allowing us who have never made this type of sacrifices, be able to "live" some, to know the struggles, to know what it meant to be in a war and just get a "Little" bit more understanding on what these great people have went through.
I think this is the best GWOT era documentary I've seen since Restrepo. An excellent mixture of archival footage and first-hand accounts. This should be required viewing before someone enters Congress or the Presidency, they need to know the consequences of war.

@@antiluminati9578 this exactly these men were sent into a conflict they weren’t informed on,the documentary doesn’ even include why the incident got to that point, April 2003 American troops shot down protesters, these soldiers didn’t even know why they were being sent in really. But this is more so on the men sent in and not the conflict itself
It's never easy to re-live these moments and to tell the story but we are glad you organized this Jack. No matter how many times the story is told, you always gather another snipit from the Marines that were beside you. This piece captures the good, the bad, and the ugly. After watching it, the roller coaster of emotions still hits hard like day 1 of these events. 20 years later, we still have the bond if not stronger with each other to lean on during the hard times. Proud to have served beside all you men and love to all the families of our brothers who sacrificed it all.

@chazzbranigaan9354 ... Jack Mandaville is the producer of the video. He organized all the interviews of us and put this great documentary together. He is also a Marine that i went to SOI and LAV school with. We deployed to Iraq together for the initial invasion and returned back state side. A few months later he was sent on another deployment with Bravo company while we remained in Charlie Company. Our deployments were offset and he heard of our battles in Fallujah. He decided to put our stories together and produce this great film.

I'm Portuguese and had some fellow Comando brothers of mine in Afghanistan with the ISAF forces,and they had nothing but admiration for the US Marines,they spoke about these guys with such respect and a sense of honor,they felt truly grateful to have know such men, such warriors. I have nothing but respect and admiration for these warriors,who do so much with so little at their disposal to do their jobs. Had to find out on the DoD’s website about Kyle’s passing before I was able to hear about it directly from my boyfriend at the time. Had the distinct pleasure of knowing many of these Marines and Navy Corpsmen personally. The brotherhood and bond they share and their continued efforts to honor their fallen brothers is without equal. It’s been 20 years, and my respect for all these men knows no bounds.
It's tough to listen, let alone watch this story. I'm glad this channel has shifted from the celebrity videos and all the "content" videos to reality. This was great to hear from the people who fought through this.

I think the mechanics deserve a shout out, doing their best to get any sort of protective vehicle up and going... I've done fixes for farm equipment during harvest ..... but fuck me, i can't imagine the pressure to keep your brothers safe.....
I come from a family of Marines. I was an M60A1 crewman back in the Reagan years. I have a son currently serving in Camp Lejeune, and another who is in LAR with the 1st MarDiv as a LAV-25 crewman right now. My late father saw combat with the 1st MarDiv at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa during WW2. I'll never forget when the battle of Fallujah was ongoing, and on the news, he told me he was so proud of these young Marines, and that the Marine Corps has given nothing up in terms of still forging young men to do the impossible when asked. He said what he saw on TV led him to believe the fight for Fallujah was every bit as hard as Okinawa, or Peleliu, if not harder. He was proud to have been a 1st MarDiv Marine until the end of his days, and I only wish he could have lived long enough to see the fine Marines his grand sons have become. Today is the Marine Corps 249th birthday. Semper Fidelis brothers, and sisters. Your heroism, and suffering have become the unforgettable stuff of legends. Again.

It is Hell, whatever side you are on. Nazi's went into battle with "Gott Mit Uns" on their belt buckles, do you think they thought they were the "bad guys"? The only truth in combat about good or bad is how you take care of the brother next to you. I can assure you, no Marine thought they were the "bad guys" during this war, and in particular in this battle.

Good to see the Warpig name and stories out and about. I was honored to have been a Warpig not long after this era and it was humbling to hear all these warriors that literally paved the way for us that came after them. Great documentary all around!
Watched the entire doc. I was just a teenager on a dirt bike during this. The war in iraq was something we saw on the news and thought about regularly, but got sugar coated by the media. The sacrifices that were made by these men are immeasurable. To any of them or anyone like them reading this, thank you.

Armendariz is my nephew and when he entered this deployment, he wasn’t even old enough to buy beer but he was brave enough to put his own life on the line like so many other young men and women serving in the armed forces. Praise be to God for these warriors ❤

One of the toughest decisions I ever made was to retire from the Marines in 1996. It ultimately came down to being able to spend time with my family, even though they were my 2nd family. Man does this video bring back memories. I wish I had a picture of maybe day 5 in Saudi Arabia- They found a bicycle rim and made a makeshift basketball hoop. Here I was and the Brigade staff were worrying about an attack b4 we were set up and they are play homemade basketball

This shit gave me goose bumps and made me tear up, I couldn't imagine going through this! As a Afghanistan war vet this shit is still crazy! I went through 2 campaigns in Afghanistan in 09 we helped take back Kabul and the outlaying areas. Then went back in 14 and did patrols and presence of force! You guys are bad assses thank you for every thing yall did!
This needs to made into a movie. Just so the story can get into the main stream and these names remembered. May the gods bless the warfighters.
Many of have felt the same vibe throughout the years. There are still many stories and viewpoints of others in the company too! I certainly wouldn’t doubt the possibility of reprisal projects in the future as an option to tell how the story continues after our service years…

And then we left the entire country leaving 1.5 billion worth of military equipment that the enemy Then took to use for themselves. Oh yes highly effective war that accomplished so much. As with most wars the us gets involved with, it was a complete waste of human life and resources. But that's cool keep praising murder and the war machine
