According to the UN 12k civilians have died in Ukraine so far, do you know how many died in Iraq? Over 400k civilians and that’s a modest number. Now compare the military losses, over half a million soldiers died in Ukraine thus far, and on some days of the conflict Russia spent over 60k artillery shells A DAY. That’s how much the U.S. used throughout the entire Iraq conflict, and you know how many American soldiers died in Iraq? Only 4550.. you know why they have this “superiority”? Because they can kill and destroy everything in their way with no impunity and no consequences, not because their military is superior. They bombed the hell out of Baghdad in the first weeks of the conflict before entering with their soldiers on the ground, what a brave way to do it.. Ukrainian cities on the other hand have electricity, water, internet.. most things still function as normal. Do you think Russia can’t do to Kiev what Americans did to Baghdad?

Actually, my father would tell me about the V-1 Buzzbombs in WWII. They would be sitting in the trenches, and they would hear the sound of the pulse-jet making that deep buzzing noise. Then it would stop. Then, usually, it would ignite again. Sometimes not, and he knew it was coming down. Not very reliable propulsion, but they were aimed at cities in the rear, like London. Still, the thought of a thousand-pound warhead falling indiscriminately was terrifying. I guess they felt that way all over Southern England.

why is it astonishing? it happens it literally every single conflict, trenches are as big of a part of warfare as guns are, its just that call of duty and movies done show it because in the sense of media, its ultimately boring, but its the most cheapest and effective way to keep soldiers alive when the space above the ground is filled with lead, as long as artillery and automatic weapons are a thing so will be trenches, the great war just really kind of introduced it to the world on a major scale, but they were used as far back as the american civil war, trenches and artillery/automatic weapons go hand in hand, when you have one you will also have the other
