    A just want to say a BIG THANKS to you mate. I’ve now saved few quids watching your videos. The starting motor was a bit of a challenge but I managed at the end. Thanks again mate. I’ve a 2004 T5 with 200K miles on it. I am sure, I will use some of your videos again soon 😂😢

      @@YoucandoitwithJules Just finished the job on a 5 speed one of these, and I must admit I did not need to strip as much off it as you did. Only needed to remove the main large pipe like you did, and the header tank. The starter came out from underneath very easily. It still took a few hours due to the nature of all the bits being tough to get off. I also add that there is a braided copper connecting strap the solenoid to the motor itself that had completely corroded away. The motor itself felt dry to turn so it was not in great shape anyway. Anyway, thanks for the video as I was able to complete this without a Haynes manual! The nice new Lucas starter sounds much better!

      Time For Bikes Great news. If the earth strap was completely Corroded then it’s must of seen some use. The DSG box has the starter in a different position than manual 5 speed if I remember correctly. Anyway well done. You can do it 👍

    Just wanted to add my thanks for this informative video, I'm no mechanic and it was a challenge getting at the bolt under the plastic wire tray. Only when I got it off could see it should of been able to slide the plastic tray off to make it easier to get at the main securing bolt ! Thanks again. FYI my symptoms were that when turning key I was just getting a single click noise and I knew the battery was fine. I replaced with a new one (I may look at faulty one when I have some spare time) and 1st turn of key after replacing the engine fired up. Thanks again :)

    Absolute nightmare on my 2013 a hole day just getting it off. And probably a good few hours tomorrow getting the new one on. Nightmare. Mine was different to yours. I had a big plastic cover with cables running through it. They had used the 13mm to clamp it. Was so hard trying to get it off. You seem to have loads more room than me. Your video was great getting me started and giving me the confidence to have a go. I pick up my vw Crafter camper this week. I hope that’s easier to work on.

    I have a 2013 T5.1. My starter packed up as I was actually just part exing it in for a vw crafter today. The sales team had to push me to get me going. I got the RAC out anyway and they have diagnosed it as the starter. Can you give me any part numbers. As looking at them there is a few different types. So want to make sure I buy the right one.
    Luckily the salesman was understanding. And my crafter deal is still on lol.
    We had already agreed the sale. So really this should be his problem not mine 😂

    • @YoucandoitwithJules
      @YoucandoitwithJules  5 месяцев назад

      Video on the repair of the starter motor is still in progress. Make sure the lever mechanism ist free to engage the drive gear. Spray WD40 on it to free it up. If that doesn't solve it it's new brushes that are needed. Usually it the gear mech that is stiff. You can do it 👍

    Thanks for the video fella, just about to do mine. Can I ask what your symptoms were and whether your home service of the motor cured it?

    • @YoucandoitwithJules
      @YoucandoitwithJules  3 года назад +4

      Hi yes my cure worked fine. I’ll make a video about servicing. Symptoms were you would turn the key and sometimes nothing or a noticeable delay from turning the key fully and the starter spinning.Always Bad on a cold morning. Trouble was a stiff solenoid/ mechanical throw that pushes the starter gear out into the flywheel. Once cleaned and lubed the solenoid can do it’s job perfectly. Motor brushes etc were like new so they didn’t need replacing. You can do it 👍

      Think I need to tackle this: 2010 T5.1 battery seems ok, lights bright but tiny click and no cranking.

    • @YoucandoitwithJules
      @YoucandoitwithJules  3 года назад +1

      thesey Hi yep sound like the exact problem. A good way to check I’d if you can tap the starter with something heavy like a 1/2 extension bar and if the starter motor then works. I’d feel safe to say it’s need the solenoid shaft cleaning.. If so you won’t need to buy a new starter. Keep us posted. You can do it 👍

      This video really helped. 2010 T5.1 2.0 5sp manual...pretty much same place as DSG as shown in this video. How you managed to stay so calm on what is a horrible engine to work on access wise 😁 The starter studs are 18mm not 16mm if that helps anyone. Thanks for posting this video

    • @YoucandoitwithJules
      @YoucandoitwithJules  3 года назад +1

      Hi glad it helped and always stay calm. The studs appear to be 18mm on the standard box and 16 on the DSG. You can do it👍

      @@Ratzfourtyfour Best do it while you are in control otherwise it’ll let you down when you least need it to. I kept a long handle wrench in the van to tap the starter if it packed up before I’ve had a chance to fix it properly . You can do it👍

    I believe my clutch slave cylinder has sprung a leak. I believe it is located just under the starter motor of my Volkswagen T5 engine.
    Can you find it in the picture in here?: ruclips.net/video/j994191mkNo/видео.html
    This is a short video of where the repair manual says it should be, and an actual picture of where I am looking for it.

      Hi, from memory slave is looking at engine from gearbox end around 2 o’clock. I’ll look at the video and come back. You can follow the pipe from master cylinder. Should be around the gearlink. Hope this helps and keep us posted. You can do it 👍

      If you look down on the engine it mounts approx on the join between the gearbox and engine. It’s tucked away.
