    Regulator
The voltage regulator controls the amount of power distributed from the alternator to the battery in order to control the charging process. Regulators are designed with different functions and work depending on their specification.
    Rectifier
The rectifier is used to convert current from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) during the charging process.
    Rotor
The rotor is the spinning mass inside the alternator that rotates via the pulley and drive belt system. The rotor acts as a spinning electromagnet.
    Slip Rings
The Slip rings are used as a means of providing direct current and power to the rotor.
    Slip Ring End Bearing
The bearings are designed to support the rotation of the rotor shaft.
    Stator
The stator consists of several coils of wire wound through an iron ring. The stator sits outside the rotor, when a magnetic field is created the electrical current is made.
    Drive End Bearing
The bearings are designed to support the rotation of the rotor shaft.
    Pulley
The pulley is connected to the rotor shaft and the drive belt system. Rotation created by the engine the drive belt system turns the pulley beginning the charging process.
    Armature
The armature is an electromagnet, mounted on the drive shaft and bearings for support. It is a laminated soft iron core which is wrapped with numerous conductors loops or windings.
    Brushes
The brushes run on a section of the commutator at the rear of the housing, making contact with the contacts of the commutator and conducting electricity.
    Solenoid
The solenoid contains of two coils of wire that are wrapped around a moveable core. The solenoid acts as a switch to close the electrical connection and connects the starter motor to the vehicle's battery.
    Plunger
The plunger works by using the connected vehicle battery and the solenoid to push the plunger forward, which engages the pinion.
    Lever Fork
The lever fork is connected to the plunger so when the plunger is pushed forwards, so is the lever fork. This process then activates the pinion.
    Pinion
The pinion is a unique combination of a gear and springs. Once the starter is engaged the gear is extended into the gearbox housing and is engaged with the flywheel. This spins the engine to begin the combustion process.
    Field Coils
The housing holds the starter fields in the housing with screws. This can consist of two to four field coils connected in series. Energised by the battery this converts the coils into an electromagnet which then turns the armature. When the armature coils are powered a magnetic field is created around the armature.

Alt version - take it apart, grease all the stuff - put it back together - if "Brass Bushes & Stuff R Us" don't have regular deliveries to your area. Which they very well might not - I know here is a blindspot for them. Outcome is much the same - it spins betterer.

Hard pass. A brand new Bosch starter motor made in 2023 is always a superior technical solution. 🇩🇪

Finding the par list of what I need to order to repair the starter makes the whole thing a bit difficult (can´t find a website that sells the repairkit in my country) and I will probably just get a junkyard starter (last one I got for like 15 euro and it laster a whole year). Perfect info in the videodescription!

In Australia, with an auto electrician charging AUD $80 per hour for labour alone, this makes the proposition of overhauling the existing starter motor unviable.
A new Bosch VW Golf starter motor for manual and automatic cars costs $200 and $300 respectively, so this is the far more rational decision.
Moreover, with a brand new quality Bosch part made in 2023 being installed, the Golf driver never ever has to worry about the starter motor again.
On the other hand, replacing the part with a junkyard item each and every year is counterproductive.

@@user-kc1tf7zm3b in the end, this video helped me in the most unexpected way actually. In the end of deciding to how to resolve my problem, I decided to buy a new starter obviously. Put a new starter in, everything will be sunshine and rainbows after that right..? The freaking coil on the new starter went out after less than a week. Luckly I was able to get the car started one more time and drive it back to my parents house where we have a garage. It was winter, like -10 degrees celsius and like 7 in the evening. Needing to drive back to my place that day and go to work in the morning I took that thing out, put the coil from the old starter on the new starter and boom, back in the game... yeah.. fun times :)

@@lukasovysilenosti When a new part suddenly fails, the obvious course of action is to have the part replaced under warranty. Yes, the repaired new part works. But, the question is for how long? Repairing the new part, which now incorporates elements of a 10 year old part, defeats the purpose of buying a new part to begin with.
Yes, making the warranty claim does probably result without having access to a working car for an extra business day. But, so be it. It is not realistic to expect a car, especially an old car, to be available 365 days a year, each and every year. There will be times when the car is just not serviceable and available.

In my experience it is usually the solenoid contacts in the bendix. For me personally i would just change the bendix and call it good. However this procedure is much more thorough. Did the brushes get changed?

I have question, how do we know if we should use 11 teeth or 12 teeth, mine is non auto start but when i look online all of them come up as 11 teeth and old motor has 12 teeth that also looks new looks like last owner had it changed but I have doubt, my car flywheel gets noisy when it’s warmed up even clutch is low and there’s no noise when it’s cold , i am suspecting is it because of teeth. Can you explain if there’s a way to figure out correct amount of teeth, one thing I think extra tooth might give extra crank on less turn but if tooth shape will be different because of number of teeth, please help me to understand

You should always use the starter motor type and part number as instructed by Volkswagen. Volkswagen is always right.
If you want to verify that the technical information is correct, then by all means call different Volkswagen workshops to compare the details. Google the information as well.
This is a very straightforward matter.

How old is your car? For cars older than 20 years old, replace the car with a newer car. One cannot feasibly maintain an old car forever.
