Just done mine this afternoon, took an hour and a half to replace both springs and shocks following this video. Uprated the rear springs to take the extra weight of the conversion. Thanks for the content saved me a small fortune in garage costs. Got the parts off a new van that had been bought and lowered for the huge sum of £75
@@YoucandoitwithJules HAve you managed to get the details of the new springs please? Or what were the springs you used?? They sound like the ones i need as i tow as well :-)
Good vid thanks, I fitted new springs and shocks with rubbers on a van, and the back suspension now knocks over fast harsh bumps, but any large slow bumps are fine, any ideas?
Hi thanks for feedback. If it knocks is it from just one side or both ? Have you lowered or raised the van ? If knock is from just one side then sounds like a fitting problem, if from both sides, them a spec problem eg shocks too short if you’ve raised the van. There should be rubbers both top and bottom of the spring so if fitted correctly there should be no knock. Same with shocks. Check anti roll bar mounts are tight and mounts are good. Hope this helps. Keep us posted. You can do it 👍
Nice tutorial, one important thing though is not to tighten the shocks up until the van is back on the floor, with the way you have done it the bushes will have a permanent twist in them when the van is put back down on its wheels, and so are more likely to fail.
Great tutorial and give me the confidence to do this. Is there a video showing how to replace the rear shock absorber and control arm bushes at the same time?
@@spdwoodcrafts It depends on what tools you have. 90 mins is plenty of time but if you have problems getting the shock bolt and just a regular spanner this may take time. Don't rush, take your time and enjoy the process. You can do it 👍
@@YoucandoitwithJules I used to own a classic mini so I have most tools just no impact driver, I've just got a window of opportunity this Saturday and wondered whether it was worth starting if I couldn't finish it. I've got new polyurethane lower spring cups and new shock bolts as a precaution.
@@spdwoodcrafts You can do it. Give it a go. Spray some WD40 on the shock bolt nuts and threads now and it'll work it's magic over night.l ready for tomorrow. You can do it 👍
Best way to check is to look underneath your T4. I know the T4 were torsion bars at the front, so different to T5 T6 but maybe the rears are the same. Hope this helps and keep us posted. You can do it.
Hi no idea i just do them up tight not stupid tight just normal hand tight with the ratchet. I would be surprised if you could even find a torque spec for those bolts. Let's us now if do find a spec. You can do it 👍
If you have jacked one side up it will be. If you are concerned put the vehicle back level on the ground and then undo both sides of the anti roll bar will the vehicle is flat. Then jack up take the wheel off and change the spring.
@@YoucandoitwithJules Yes that’s what I thought it was on a slight decline, I jacked the roll bar slightly to release the bolts. Rears done going to tackle the fronts on weekend. Great video by the way helped me out a lot👍
From eBay, genuine VW. You need. to know the colours or spec of yours and if you buy a set what vehicle they came from you'll need a stronger spring which will have a different colour code. I'll make a video. when I have time.
Will depend on the T5 eg is it a van, Mulitvan etc. Vans are longer springs than Multivans etc. Have a look on the data sticker on the service book you need the 7?? code on the second line, and the code one the 4th line from the bottom eg mines 1BA, then the last code on the second line from the bottom. Will be an 0Y? code. Then you have the spec of the rear setup. if you send me the details ill try and see if I can find time to look up what springs you have now. Also what colour paint marks are on your current springs ? You can do it.
Thanks for the feedback. That’s why they get branded VW Stealers‘ 😳 Checkout how much they charge to replace the DMF on a DSG gearbox. Scary prices. You can do it 👍

Thks for the feedback. 75 for the parts is a result. Well done in doing the job yourself and that's the purpose of this channel. You can do it 👍
Excellent tutorial. Better than others I have seen on the same subject / vehicle. Thankyou. Regards Stephen
Thanks hope it helps. You can do it 👍
Great, useful channel mate! You help us a lot with those videos.

Great video. A lot of the other tutorials don’t mention about the anti roll bar. Your right if it’s on a lift you don’t have that problem
Glad it helped. You can do it 👍

Came here to say the same 👍
Jack the hub up to ride height, and tighten the bottom shock bolt up under load. Sorted.
Great video - I need to do this as I've had a camper conversion and it's low at the back - When's the "all about springs" video coming??
Hi, it’s in process. You can do it 👍
great vid, just ordered mine and will be doing it this weekend.
Thanks for the feedback and keep us posted how you get on. You can do it :)
This is great! So you used 2 jacks - one to lift the car and on to lift the part to reconnect the spring and shock?
If I remember I used two and for safety always make sure the van is sitting on a an axle stand. You can do the job with just one jack. You can do it 👍
Brilliant video few clever ideas 1- unbolt antirollbar and 2- use tow bar for axle stands.
Thanks for the feedback. You can do it 👍
Great tutorial, when I need mine doing, I will be sure to revisit this how-to..

I can’t find the other video about springs. Can you post a link please?
Sorry I haven't made it yet. You can do it 👍
hello, great video. have you done the other video yet of the different colour markings on the springs Thanks Toby
Hi it’s still in the making. Apologies I’ve just had no time. You can do it 👍

Great stuff. Very helpful tutorial. Thanks for making the effort to post the video.

would you recommend changing to the top plate as well as the bottom mount when fitting a new spring ?
Top plate is usually ok and no Ned to replace. You can do it 👍
Is 96 t4 same procedure?? Do you simply switch shock at at same time as well? What can one expect to pay for a set of springs?

Hi very good video
Are the front springs as easy, are there any videos on how to change them
Many thanks

Fronts are doable but more in-depth as you need spring compressors and you need to remove the whole unit out of the hub unit. You can do it.👍
Where is the other video about the springs? Can't see it anywhere.
Yes apologies it's bug been uploaded as still to be edited. You can do it 👍
