    Most underrated bassist of all time. If Gentle Giant broke into mainstream he would be a top 20 bassist of all time

      Agreed. He not only was truly great on the bass (pretty adept at guitar and violin too), but he was most likely the principal author of most of their original material and of their musical approach. He and Kerry Minnear remain truly giants of prog rock, IMHO

      Eric Golub-- It's true that the majority of the music recorded by Gentle Giant was composed by Ray Shulman and Kerry Minnear. The others contributed also, but the majority was written by Ray and Kerry.

      When I think I've listened all GG I revisit every album paying special attention to Ray's basalines. He is unreal

      @@hangemhigh63 I have seen a Yes show. I will amend it to say, 'one of the best', however, in the style of what they are do, I feel they are the best, and in the style of what Yes does, they are the best. It's not a competition, they are both awesome.

    Sensational concert in front of living corpses:)
    Kerry 's incredible vibraphone solo reminded me how he improvised, not only on vibraphone, NOT following any blues or jazz cliché. It's like Stravinski or Hindemith improvising. Mind blowing.

      I think he's the most single greatest multi-instrument musician I've ever seen...and he's one of the greatest progressive rock keyboard players ever. It's Emerson and Wakeman...then all the others including Minnear.

      @@Eleventhearlofmars Like I said it Emersona and Wakeman in the top tier. In the second tier there's Banks, Wright, Minnear and Evan..third tier Moraz, Argent, and Bardens. I am not a Rudess fan.

    GG - strong, talented, creative, capable, funky, fun, classical, theatrical, energetic and infectious are all words that come to mind when I hear their music or see it filmed live like here. And I wasn't even born for another 6 years after they broke up.

    John Weathers is such a functional drummer. I love Bill Bruford, Robert Wyatt or Billy Cobham for their creativity. But John is just so GOOD and serving, I love it

    Superhuman levels of musicianship. You saw that a lot in prog rock. Gentle Giant were almost a genre of their own, incredibly original and very influential. Personally I'd rather listen to Genesis, Floyd or Crimson, but I have the utmost respect for GG.

      Purely musically, I feel that Yezda Urfa showed the limits. But Yezda Urfa were a clone, not an original, for sure.

    The part that starts at 1:43 is easily one of the highest moments on music and is not available on any record... or is it? That guitar figure at 1:51 gets second to second more intense, reaching at 2:07 its very top.

    Перешёл по ссылке в комментарии к видео о ламповом звуке..
    Керри Миннер, я так понял, руководитель этой группы и доктор наук как композитор!
    Исполнение на фоне более поздних групп несколько наивным кажется конечно, но восхищает мелодика и собранность каждой композиции... Как будто произведение Баха, Шопена, Глинки, Чайковского, Рахманинова...

    Muchas gracias a mi amiga pipilin por recordarme estas canciones, muchas de estas no las comprendo, pero me terminan gustando por lo peculiares y diversas que llegan a ser. Me gustaría tener un nivel alto de inglés para poder comprender mejor la letra de las canciones, pese a eso logro captar parte del mensaje e interpretaciones.
    Tambien quiero agradecer a mk amigo Tramer por existir, también lo quiero mucho. Me gustaría algun dia poder invitarles un ceviche y agradecerles por su amistad y apoyo, aun que los conozco no hace mucho, los quiero bastante. Incluso podría considerarlos como los hermanos mayores que siempre quise tener. Me gusta jugar dota 2.

      +Vincent Janowski every live broadcasted concert like this had an audience resembling the same behavior back in the 70's nothing strange, people were just different in Europe at that time.

    The most bizarre part of this performance was the audience. I would be tapping my foot and keeping time with the music. Silence. No applause between songs. The audience had to have been staged or deer looking into the headlights.

    I really dislike these Gentle Giant videos, but the first track here, Cogs in Cogs, stands out for me. It's less a "look how much we practised"-vibe I get so often with Gentle Giant, but it actually brings across a kind of energy I like in some prog rock.
