It all started in Italy….the Masters like Bach and Handel all felt it had to be the food…the beauty….something magical ,they all spent time in the country ….think of all the great Italian Composers….Kerry said Verdi,Scarlatti….GG was well respected and received in Italy because they understood their music…
Unici, inimitabili.
Of course this was not 1970. John Weathers is on drums and he was the their third drummer. Marty Smith played on the first two albums, then Malcolm Mortimer jumped in on Three Friends. He got into a motorcycle accident, and that's when Weathers stepped in and they stuck with him.
And on top of it, this is a live rendition of 'Knots' from the 1972 Octopus album. Once again shows their incredible musicianship that they could deliver this song flawlessly live!
The highlight may be the silliness of John Weathers 4:08, with his fancy "other" name, and after saying what he plays, says "and nothing else, nothing".

Poi è arrivata la disco music!
Ballo, drink, culo al vento...
Era terminato il tempo per pensare..

Hands down, the best medley in rock n’ roll or any genre of music in history! Long live Gentle Giant !!
Unici, inimitabili.

13:48 Weathers is massive. Love his sound and approach.
laying down a ferocious groove beneath a chorus of recorders.
Wonderful Giant, and the RAI TV too, talkin' about 70's
RAI 70 refers to the decade in which the broadcast was done (1975).....it is just a title....so no mistakes about the year..
20:44 The mighty Ray Shulman!
The greatest of pro rock
Weathers joined in 1972 and in the interview he said it was 3 years ago when he join the band, so this is recorded circa 1975 I guess, Thank you !
Right 75
The greatest band of all time
Oh god yeah f yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! absolutely correct without a doubt
I wholeheartedly concur.
Interesting. I must have missed this band in my youth. Very innovative.
I was introduced to GG by seeing them open for Yes in 1976. Brain completely exploded by that show, it was my first concert.
Living down the road from John Les to some wonderful meetings
Bel documento del magico momento del Progressive rock.
right its not 1970 with Knots, etc. and John P. Weathers on drums, so the title could be revised to ca. 1975.
+Chris Grimm I'm agree with you. I think they mean "the seventies" :)
this is from an Itialian tv show. I have it on dvd.. Knots the 1st song was out on Octopus in 1971. Ao it was the early 70's
chris grimm it seems to be: Gentle Giant on Italian Tv 1973
This interview took place in 1975. How do I know? John says "I joind the band three years ago". He joined in 1972.
Gentle Giant on TV, this was possible 50 years ago. Imagine now having like The Aristocrats on TV?
Excellent analogy
I wish I could hear the interview without interpreter cutting in
Favolosi!!!!!!

Saw them live in 75 and 76, bham town hall.
Larga Vida al Gigante Gentil!!!!!!
SPETTACOLARE
This can't possibly be 1970, the octopus album wasn't out then. I don't think the opening track was even written at that point!
+squizza28 Also a couple of the guys have on the same clothes they were wearing on "In Concert" in 1974. haha
squizza28, it wasn't 1970,,Gentle Giant on Italian Tv 1973

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What are they playing around the 9:05? I’m especially interested in the section where the organ comes in. Thanks!
thx
Sounds like the Proto for Yes's leave it
Yes I would say 1975'
5:17
This is not 1970. It would have to be 74 or so.
This is at least 1972 footage.
The title RAI 70 refers to the actual Italian TV channel broadcast, which was called RAI 70. This is from 1973 or 75.
Definitely not from 1970. Phil Shulman was part of the band then, and John Weathers had not yet joined GG.
Not 1970. I'd say '72 because "Knots" is the opener and the overall quality of the film.
Alex Vanwoert it’s 1975 mate
It states in the heading that this is a 1973 interview.
