That's a realy good update. I have a 2000 and only remove snow with it. The ES is bad in winter so, I'm going to convert it like you did. I do thank you. Right on!
Thank you for the video. The ES just quit working on my 2001 Rancher (absolute workhorse of a ATV) and i'm converting it to foot shift. I had no idea about removing the shift gears, thank you so much!
Super helpful video man. Been having an ongoing issue on my 99 450 es. When I press the shift buttons I get nothing. I changed the switch, angle censor, and put a bypass kit also took apart the shifter motor and cleaned it. After all that still nothing, all connections look good, my guess is that the motor has gone bad or I missed something. I’ve always wanted a foot shift and this video and the one prior helped alot. I was happy to hear what you said about the fact the shaft will be able to take it.
Bolt in shift linkage was loose! Tighted with red locktite. Waiting for gasket to close the case up. Going to leave the gears out behind the sfift motor and shift manually. Thanks for your assistance!
Mine dose same shows 1st and 5th had mine converted to S at the local atv shop.. that electric shift is a joke all it Don was cost money but not any more..
Good video! Thanks:-) I have the same bike but it's beat up green looking and his name is Mongo :-) he's always been foot shift but I just couldn't resist a video about a foreman:-)
Haha thanks buddy. My foot shift has been going strong still with no problems at all. I use the quad almost every day still. so if anything would have broke, it should have by now.

@@handy_andy_bobandy yeah, found that out. I managed to get mine shifting again. There's an inline fuse inside the battery box that had a bad connection. 🤷🏻♂️
You mentioned that you ordered an angle sensor in video 1. Did you ever put that in? Did it or would it enable you to see all gears on the display? I get that an experienced rider doesn't need that, but it would be nice to have.
@@handy_andy_bobandyThanks, prior to pulling the gears from behind the shift motor, did the manual shift work through all the gears and reguster on the display?
No I plugged it back in so my gear indicator on the dash would still work. I just removed the gears so it can shift freely without binding. The motor is now just a make shift indicator.
@murkeyfuzwart does it still shift through the gears or not at all? I know when you leave the shifter solenoid gears on, then it creates resistance and won't shift smooth between gears. That was part of the reason for removing them in the first place.
@@handy_andy_bobandy I have tried a 12 mm socket on the shift shaft and appears only go between 1 and N. The actual em shift wrench is not with the machine. I have another shift wrench ordered and will try that soon before doing ang more digging.
@murkeyfuzwart interesting. I know my display will only show me neutral, 1st, and 5th. But it will go through the gears no problem. It just won't display what gear it is in. That's because when my electric shift actuator died, it also killed the sensor to show my gears.
@@handy_andy_bobandy Shifting between N and 1 and R feels "solid" shaft moves but dosen't go above 1. I have pulled the skid plate and will reomve the gears as you did in your modifaction. Will let you know the outcome.

I like those wheels. What brand are they? Where did you get them? Locally or on-line?
Prior to pulling the gears from behind the shift motor, did the manual shift work through all the gears and reguster on the display?
@@murkeyfuzwart yes it did.
So, how much easier is it to manually shift after removing the gears? Is it comparable to a factory manual shift?
Id say it's a hair stiffer to shift than a factory one.

Part number on the shift lever? Looking to do this with mine
Sorry but I built the lever from scratch. If you check out my previous video on the conversion, you'll see how I made it. Thanks for watching!

Still only 1, N and R with Motor, Angle Sensor and Gears removed
How fast does yours go mine can only go up to 25mph in 5th
Sounds about right. Mines only ever really done 55km/h.

No way, my 350 does about 50-52mph.
My 450 goes between 40-45 on stock wheels.
Do you have to take the electric shifter apart to use the foot shifter
Yes I did. You need to remove the gears in the electric shift so it won't bind with the foot shift. I have a video on how I did it all.
