Sasha dolls were originally created by a Swiss artist/sculptor named Sasha Morgenthaler at the end of World War II to be given to children in refugee camps. Dolls of the time had big smiley faces that frightened these children. Sasha dolls were purposely designed to have very neutral expressions to have a calming effect on these traumatized children and to allow them to project their own feelings through them - basically, they were therapy dolls. They became so popular that they were mass produced by the German company Gotz in the 1960's and the English company Trendon in the 1970's, and have been produced off and on ever since. These are the only dolls in my collection that are not fashion dolls, but I love them and their unique expression. They are very well made and have terrific hair.
9:40 The tinkerbell doll line originally was based on the tinkerbell books! I remember having the third one down the line on the top(pink and purple two piece) when I was like,,, gosh 9? 10?? I loved those dolls and always wanted the rini doll because she was a water fairy with no wings !
Monster high and ever after high were supposed to meet but they cancelled the movie to reboot mh :( They definitely wouldve had dolls and it still hurts (and enchantimals were supposed to be eah spin offs originally!)
I read that with pandemic Mattel is unable to go in their factories to actually produce the collectible dolls that they announced earlier this year not to mention maybe re-tweaking the design since if it’s true that these were supposed to be kids of Stephen king characters and the fact that deviantART artists has mhoc based off of his characters so they don’t copy them
I love Blythe because they are extremely photogenic. A tiny change of angle gives you a subtly different expression. A photographer’s dream! And they’re super sturdy, I’ve taken mine in the ocean etc, no problem.
Imani was a doll line that was created in the early to mid 80s. There wasn't much diversity in the Barbie line at that time. Barbie had one African American friend, Christie. Her out fits were the same pattern pretty much like Barbie's but turquoise colored or blue. So to create a doll celebrating Black beauty, the Sun toy company made Imani. Designed by and for African American girls. I hope this helps.
I still have my Imani doll from when I was a child. Wow! That takes me way back. My mom got it for me, because she loved what the doll line represented. It celebrates African culture, but with a modern twist. The fashions that the dolls had were inspired by African clothing. When she bought Imani my mom told me that I was very lucky, because when she was growing up dolls like Imani did not exist. So it was important to her for me to have that representation.
Blythe is my middle name. :) I've always wanted a real Blythe doll. I had the mini LPS Blythe. She had the cutest white sweater and plaid skirt. Oh, and it's pronounced blEYEthe. Without the E at the end.
Fun fact! Those Disney Fairies dolls were based on a series of kids’ chapter books about Pixie Hollow made by Disney in the 90s-early 2000s. The Tinker Bell movie was based on the books, but I think the first line of dolls was definitely a test to see if Tinker Bell merchandise would sell well. That said, now I really want to see if there are any dolls of my favorite book fairy, Prilla!
Blythe was a Hasbro doll from the 70s that gained popularity years later in Japan. Japan started producing new collectable Blythe dolls. So it is not necessarily discontinued. The LPS crossover was done because Hasbro has the rights to the original dolls.
Blythe dolls were discounted but they have been brought back and are going strong and have a big collector base. Also Kenner that original made Blythe and that other doll you mentioned was bought by hasbro.
Have they stopped making Lalaloopsy? I didn't know. Steffi Love is still being sold, at least in UK. What I want to know is what has happened to the Shopkins Shoppies dolls? No new ones for ages and I love them.
2:30 I'm currently in high school and remember watching the first couple seasons of the LPS show as a kid (until I grew out of it), and I never noticed a connection but I do remember the main human character's name being Blythe, so now it just makes so much sense! (also the E is silent, like in "life" or "five")
Snapstars really disappointed me because the artwork on the boxes was fantastic and a Totally Different style than the actual doll. If the dolls looked like the box art they would have been an instant favorite of mine. But no. Liv doll heads on way too small bodies.
I only bought one. Only because they sold it for two or three Euros And only because I want to use the dress It was the blonde one Maybe by far the ostzonale ugly dolls I ever saw And as you said, if they looked only like the paintings. .
I remember the characters shown in that Tinkerbell doll line! There were a bunch of books about them that I read over and over as a kid. I liked that series a lot more than the movies that came later, lol.
I was always fond of the older Sindy doll (60s-70s) - in looks, she's closer in the vintage days to Tammy, and the two dolls could swap outfits. Sindy had a lot of very well-made doll furniture back in the day, too; it was often of a higher quality than Barbie's. Love using older Sindy furniture in my dioramas. I remember Darci as well, but I used to get frustrated as a kid because she was larger than Barbie and could not share clothes. Darci can, however, share clothes and shoes with Kenner's Bionic Woman dolls!
The Bratz is my favorite doll line, I recently started to collect them again because I got rid of the ones I had a long time ago big mistake. But now I started again currently sitting at three but I’m happy.
Three more dolls/lines for you: Tucha (we had her in Portugal in the 70's but I'm not sure if it was released outside). The main line of Living Dead Dolls seems to have stopped (at least for now), even though they keep running the "Presents" line; Bleeding Edge Goths Dolls. Those stopped quite a few years ago. I have 2 on my collection, love them to pieces!
I am OBSESSED with Megan & Sundance!!! That was one of my MOST CHERISHED sets as a child & I still have it. ❤ btw Megan was on nearly every episode of the original series as well as the movie. 🙂
Some other discontinued dolls: Peppermint Rose, Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Magic Attic Club, Baby-Sitters Club, Cardcaptors, Sailor Moon, Generation Girl (it's technically Barbie, but so's Star Team and Wee Three Friends), Melanie's Mall, When I Read I Dream, Cupcake dolls (I couldn't remember the name so I had to look on Ghost of the Doll). Heck, just go on Ghost of the Doll, they list multiple doll/toy lines from 1980-2000-ish. It's ghostofthedoll.co.uk!
One thing I didn't see on Ghost of the Doll (not sure if they'd count, but there was a line of mini Disney Princesses in the 90s. They had Perfume Princesses, Singing Princesses, etc.
Thank you so much for this list! You will definitely be seeing some of these dolls in future videos. Btw I try not to include dolls based on film and tv characters because I feel like they belong on a separate list
Fun fact about Sasha dolls: originally conceptualized in the 50s and named after their creator, Sasha Morgenthaler, they were meant to help children deal with the trauma of WWII better than all the broadly smiling dolls. Their neutral expressions were meant to make children project their own emotions onto them. The first Sasha dolls were tan with a bob cut and were meant to be gender and racially neutral.
Darci was a late '70s doll. She was really cool. My next-door neighbor had her. I love that her main focus was just being a fashion model. When I play with a doll, I want glamour and escape. I could care less about astronauts, gymnasts, swim instructors, soccer players, etc. Just give me a doll with a focus on a fabulous wardrobe!
CORRECTION: Blythe was an early 70's doll and the 'e' is silent. She had 4 different eye colors when you pulled the string and 2 sets of eyes were sideway glances - my favorite!
I remember Brats!!!!!!! I’m only 11 but I remember playing with them and making stop motion videos whenever I was like.... 5-8 years old :D I here there’s like a aesthetic that’s inspired by brats, it’s like girly/ 2000s girly fashion and I am SO into that aesthetic lol Edit: I believe that there was like a line of dolls called like lotty da or something like that, they were like cute and kawaii fashion ! I also remember the moxy girls I believe they were called I remember that they had pets that pooped GemS LOL I always wanted one and remember getting one I found one in an old toy been in the play room that now belongs to my little sisters
One of the door lines I haven’t heard you talk about is Moxie girls which was kind of like a mixture of brats Barbie and my seen that kind of style where they had feet that could be removed like the brats but they sort of looked more like them I seen dolls
I feel like MGA will always keep the Bratz at arms length, even though they've moved onto other successful lines like LOL. They know that they were generation and 2000s era-defining, and Bratz is their baby. I'm not really sure I want to see them come back outside of collector lines if they don't bave that unique flair that made them popular in the first place. But I really liked the 2018 Collectors and hope they come back strong for their 20th anniversary.
omg u should include Girls of Many Lands dolls!!!! BEAUTIFUL dolls by american girl with faces sculpted by Helen Kish in the early 00s❤ also the dear america dolls by madame alexander
I remember a doll named Tiffany Taylor. It was to versions of her black and white . The most interesting thing about her , you can change her hair color from blonde to brunette it was a gadget hidden in her scalp can twist. She wore a one piece gold sparkling bathing suit And chunky heels, also had a tan she came out in the 70's. That Darci doll' s hair and outfit to me is the 1970s .📻🎧☎️
The tinkerbell and friends dolls were actually a book series as well! There was one really big collector-y book introducing all of them and the lore and then several children's paperbacks focusing on one character's point of view at a time
Im in denial about the snapstars potentially being over already, because it felt like they went in a blink of an eye! They had such great quality bodies and clothes (shame about the wigs tho lmao)
When I was younger I always saw Bratz but never owned any. One day I found a Jade from Style It from a charity shop and I really liked her, but she had a stain on her nose and her hair wasn't cut, I think over a year later I saw the same doll at a different charity shop and she didn't have any stains on her face. Their pop-on/off shoes did creep me out at first when I started getting into them as an adult collector but I really like their diversity and their face size as they look more realistic than Barbie.
I wanted a makie as a kid but they cost like $100 for just the doll and underwear. A doll line I remember having was this kawaii style one? They were like 2 inches tall and had rubber clothes. A lot of the accessories had faces on them but they weren't blind bags. They were sold at toys r us and I had almost every doll. There were 2 sleepovers sets(one of which was peanut butter and jelly themed) that I could never find.
straight to the topic is what you do.. i love vloggers who doesnt spend like 15minutes talking about things .. no beating around the bush.. keep up always on top..Bratz and myscene dolls are the coolest apart from the barbie movie dolls...
Saw the thumbnail and I was like, omg I had the Madeline dolls! They were extra cute with their little clothes. They also sold Madeline's dog. So adorable.
I was obsessed with Madeline from when I was 5-7 so I had a few of those dolls. I was introduced through the cartoon which lead me to getting the books, the dolls and even some computer games. I've noticed that Madeline seems to be something people often forget was popular in the '90s.
I really love the pink haired Sindy. She's one I might attempt importing. I also, in terms of celebrity dolls, had a Dolly Parton Barbie that I got at Dollywood theme park. She couldn't wear regular Barbie's shirts... And I remember a Princess Diana from when I was VERY young that we found at a discount store. She had mockups of all of the fashions. Imani reminds me a bit of the Kenya line, like a fantasy version of it. I think they MAY be the same company and creator.
Those Disney fairies dolls were gorgeous! I had all but 2 of them back in the day, and I loved them. They had a really unique aesthetic and were very nicely made. I wish I’d kept mine 😭
I wanted a Makie! I remember them, I designed them online for fun! I’d love the 60s Inspired Collector Sunday dolls. They look so beautiful!! I’ve heard of Sasha dolls, they look very lovely.
I really like your videos, and the way you present as a person, always very polite and fun, you seem like a lovely person, glad I subscribed I look forward to seeing more content from you
Funny you should mention a Monster High cross over with Ever After High. There actually suppose to be a movie cross over. But plans were scrapped. There are some clips of the story board on RUclips.
Megan actually appears in the two specials, the movie, and some of the TV Series till her final appearance in the Golden Horseshoes which featured the very sought after Mimic pony. They also did her sister Molly with Baby Sundance. I own a Magen doll but I put her head on a articulated Chelsea doll (not the moulded on top ones).
I miss Littlest Pet Shop😢 they were amazing A crossover i remember is Tanya ( the italian fashion doll ) and Cuccioli Cerca Amici ( Puppies Looking for Friends, they were mini puppies of animals with a layer of velvet that made them soft ) I had a Minnie Mouse doll, just the one you showed in the picture, yes, they were cute
Not watched video yet. so don't know if you featured these yet, but just recently discovered the Jan McClean Lollipop Girls dolls, they look kind of cool. Also Lalaloopsy someone said down in the comments has been discontinued. Mattel did some dolls called Flairies, one of which I had, the pink one, but only found out what they were last year, they were very glam and a bit controversial I think. Have the Shopkins Shoppies dolls been discontinued? They were everywhere until very recently and I collected loads, I love them. edit, Oh, also the Tressy, and Chrissy dolls, the ones who had hair that grew longer.
Darci came out in late 1970 she is my favorite doll i have her burnette and she STILL highly desirable,.. i have 3 of them and i looooove them ,... i wish they make them back,.. i love Draci next Barbie ,..and i still have her box she came in...
I remember really liking the Madeline doll because she had a scar and I also had a lot of surgical scars at the time. I think Makies also gave you the option to customize a doll with various mobility devices, but I never had one of these.
In the early 80’s there was a line of three to four inch dolls called Dazzle , also in the 90’s to 2000 collector 1940’s fashion doll called Gene and the the 2000’s BeGoth dolls. Glad you found Darci dolls because I was gonna list them too. Also in the 80’s there was a Brooke Shields fashion doll.
I have the Pinwheels and Daisies Littlest Pet Shop Blythe set. My daughters decided they didn't want her anymore and gave her to me for my collection. She's so cute!
I saw the marilyn monroe dolls at my near by foundry and I thought that it was good and almost grabbed it till I saw the face and debated if I should get it or not.
The Disney Fairies dolls were based around the book series. The characters seen in the movies existed in the book lore, they only got redesigns and more relevance. They also made tiny dolls, I actually own a few of those, some came in playsets. The only playset I own is Tink's house. Apparently after the last movie the Disney Fairies line died completely and returned to be TinkerBell. But i personally have not found any TinkerBell merch as of late.... so maybe Tink as a whole has been discontinued?
Flatsy Dolls, Leggy Dolls, Dawn Dolls, The Sunshine Family, Little (Liddle) Kiddles (came in perfume bottles), Velvet/Chrissy Doll, Thumbelina Baby Dolls, Big Jim (not a fashion doll, but a cool doll), Johnny West, Groovy Girls, Holly Hobbie
i used to have a couple of Imani dolls that i bought with my allowance when i was 11 or 12. She was no cheaper than Barbie. She costed about 15-20 dollars. i bought myself Menelik too. He's Imani's boyfriend. Imani was a great doll. i really enjoyed her back then. Now you're making me want to find myself another one.
You should look into the Women of Robotech dolls. It's the most bizarre thing. They were designed and marketed just like any other doll line of the time (lots of clothes meant for domestic everyday activites like going to the gym or dates) even though Robotech itself was....extremely not that.
The Pixie Hollow dolls (Tinker Bell's friends) had an accompanying book series! The books were very well-written and one of my childhood favorites! I had the Rani (the water fairy) doll, who I adored. They were quite detailed but the heads did have a tendency to pop off with the neck-peg inside...making it a very difficult fix.
I'd love to see Bratz come back. I have a Sasha Gregor doll, he needs to be restrung though. I love the look of the new Sindy dolls. I wonder if I'll be able to afford one. I've never been a fan of those big-headed Blythe dolls but I know they are popular with collectors.
Imani is a very outdated look at African American fashion. It was like that in the early 90s and had a resurgence in the early 2000s with the neo-soul genre but it’ seems like a creation made by a group of boardroom people that seen coming to america once🤣
I still have my Royal Princess Imani doll and I agree, they look very much like a product of the time lol. I get a "hotep"/I watch black 90s sitcoms vibe. It would have been nice to see what a modern day Imani looked like.
Imani was a doll line created by Olmec Toys, a company founded and owned in the eighties by an African American Woman and her aim was to create inclusive toys with African American characters that little AA children in the US could play and identify with. She also created the Bronze Warriors, alternative to GI Joe and a bunch of other toy lines. They went out of business in the late 90's. So no white boardroom men out of touch with the demographic they're creating for, but an independently owned company run by a black businesswoman.
The Madeline doll looks cute, never seen that one, reminds me of the Triplet dolls I had [from the tv show]. Blythe dolls are still being made as people said before me. I think they are creepy too. I know Sindy.
I never heard of any rumours about Bratz returning but considering that the Bratz is still active on Twitter and Instagram I wouldn't be surprised. But it may be a while since MGA is coming out with yet another doll like called Rainbow High witch may just be my favorite new doll lines so far.
You can still find Blythe dolls today. They’re still being made.
shdwstrm yes, they were made by Kenner, then discontinued, now they’re made by Takara.
We had Blythe with our LPS.
Yeah Blythe is a huge community now
They were made by Kenner, Hasbro bought Kenner and now Hasbro licences Blythe out to Takara
If I recall she’s still huge in Japan typicality lol

Okay curiosity got the best of me bc I wanted to make sure I got their names right rip I had Fira and the doll I wanted was Rani lol
I too was a huge Rani fan! I'd LOVE a Rani doll, except they're so expensive. 😭
In the photo, it looks like the Rani doll does have wings. I'm not sure why. Probably because they wanted to make it clear that she was a fairy.
The original Disney Fairy dolls were based on a book series, which is why they have different characters than the ones from the movies.
I loved the books and the magazine! Interestingly they never sold the dolls here so I had no idea about them.
Yeah I remember the original disney fairies stories before they were made into them films.
Dolls from the 80's... Rainbow Brite, Lady Lovely Locks, and Wish World Kids!! I still have all of these!
The classic Blythe is still being processed by Takara. The pet shop plan didn't go through
We had an LPS Blythe doll.
@@thisbeem2714 oh that's cool. I haven't seen them in my neck of the woods fora while

she came with a horse too, I think
I just realized that pronunciation is like how you don't say the E at the end of "breathe"
So it sounds like blyth like in night

In part 6, include Tuesday Taylor, Candi, Kenya, Glamour Gals, Beverly Hills 90210, and Clueless dolls.
Yes, Kenya dolls! I feel like nobody ever mentions them.
They still make Kenya and I work with the original creator and the new ones got better hair than the old ones
My best friend growing up had almost all the Kenya dolls! I absolutely loved them.
And Tiffany Taylor. The tall dolls from the early 70's with a flip around wig and some gold colored fashion
Kim Bingham WE still make KENYA and I’m apart of that team....
Blythe dolls were discounted but they have been brought back and are going strong and have a big collector base. Also Kenner that original made Blythe and that other doll you mentioned was bought by hasbro.
More discounted dolls:
Once upon a zombie
Fairytale high.
Steffi love and lalalopsy girls

Liv doll heads is a really good description. The faces on Snapstars always turned me off.
I only bought one. Only because they sold it for two or three Euros

It was the blonde one
Maybe by far the ostzonale ugly dolls I ever saw

He did them in another video lol-- I ended up even buying one off ebay cause of it lol
Wait they're discontinued already?! They only came out last year😭 I hope they'll release more and just have a slow production on them😭😂
Still selling in the US at Walmart.com
What About The Winx Club Dolls Though?🧚♀️
They were in an earlier discontinued doll video, I believe.

There was the 12” version too called Tuesday Taylor 💖
The tinkerbell and friends dolls were actually a book series as well! There was one really big collector-y book introducing all of them and the lore and then several children's paperbacks focusing on one character's point of view at a time
Im in denial about the snapstars potentially being over already, because it felt like they went in a blink of an eye! They had such great quality bodies and clothes (shame about the wigs tho lmao)
I've seen pictures of wave 2 on instagram. I'm not sure they are discontinued, they just havent rushed them out - perhaps because of covid?
It's still selling in the US. I was watching them at walmart.com yesterday
@@nicknelson1915 yeah i thought they were was a second wave leaked i just didn't know if i was remembering correctly
I love Bratz!! They are amazing! ❤️
Kawaii Crush, by Spin Master ;)
straight to the topic is what you do.. i love vloggers who doesnt spend like 15minutes talking about things .. no beating around the bush.. keep up always on top..Bratz and myscene dolls are the coolest apart from the barbie movie dolls...
A lot of these dolls never arrived here in Italy 😅
P.S.: Jem was by Hasbro and Megan was the
human character in the first My Little Pony tv series.
Oh, pensavo di essere l'unica Italiana qui 😂
Saw the thumbnail and I was like, omg I had the Madeline dolls! They were extra cute with their little clothes. They also sold Madeline's dog. So adorable.
I was obsessed with Madeline from when I was 5-7 so I had a few of those dolls. I was introduced through the cartoon which lead me to getting the books, the dolls and even some computer games. I've noticed that Madeline seems to be something people often forget was popular in the '90s.
i had the fairies line and UGH i adored them. they were really nice quality and i miss them to bits. theyre on my rebuy list from my childhood dolls.
I miss Littlest Pet Shop😢 they were amazing
A crossover i remember is Tanya ( the italian fashion doll ) and Cuccioli Cerca Amici ( Puppies Looking for Friends, they were mini puppies of animals with a layer of velvet that made them soft )
I had a Minnie Mouse doll, just the one you showed in the picture, yes, they were cute
dollar trees in America have a bunch LPS for $1.
Blythe dolls are still being made today, they were never discontinued they just changed hands from one toy maker to another
Not watched video yet. so don't know if you featured these yet, but just recently discovered the Jan McClean Lollipop Girls dolls, they look kind of cool.
So interesting that you bring up the smell of the Madeline doll. Now I can't stop thinking/smelling that smell. I clearly remember it.
Darci came out in late 1970 she is my favorite doll i have her burnette and she STILL highly desirable,.. i have 3 of them and i looooove them ,... i wish they make them back,.. i love Draci next Barbie ,..and i still have her box she came in...
80s pastel packaging is immaculate you can't tell me otherwise.
Those videos are really important to acknowledge the doll history
My daughter used to LOVE littlest pet shops & had some of those little blythe dolls!
Flatsy Dolls, Leggy Dolls, Dawn Dolls, The Sunshine Family, Little (Liddle) Kiddles (came in perfume bottles), Velvet/Chrissy Doll, Thumbelina Baby Dolls, Big Jim (not a fashion doll, but a cool doll), Johnny West, Groovy Girls, Holly Hobbie
Yes! You're right! Jem used Darci's moldes with different heads 💜💙💜
I remember the Tinkerbell faeries line. They were based off of books. I used to read them all the time when I was younger.
The Disney Fairies line was inspired by the books/graphic novels!!
And that Madeleine's doll? Soooo cute!
Bratz dolls love them!
i used to have a couple of Imani dolls that i bought with my allowance when i was 11 or 12. She was no cheaper than Barbie. She costed about 15-20 dollars. i bought myself Menelik too. He's Imani's boyfriend. Imani was a great doll. i really enjoyed her back then. Now you're making me want to find myself another one.
and also dARCI COME WITH THE LATE 1970S FASHION STYLE VERY WELL DONE AND IN details... and early 1980s ..
Miss Party Surprise!! also, not fashion dolls but I LOVED Mattel's Doggie Daycare toys as a kid.
I've never been a fan of those big-headed Blythe dolls but I know they are popular with collectors.
i've seen quite a few in target and walmart
Please talk about stardoll, the doll flash game that also had physical dolls made by mattel
My favourite doll growing up were the Flower Fairie dolls by Hornby based on Cicely Mary Barker's books. Wish they were still being made today.
I love how every time in a video you'll say "I think I'm saying it right" but you never are😂 it's super cute lol
Imani is a very outdated look at African American fashion. It was like that in the early 90s and had a resurgence in the early 2000s with the neo-soul genre but it’ seems like a creation made by a group of boardroom people that seen coming to america once🤣
I thought that might be the case. but I wish Imani had stuck around because I’d like to see what she’d have looked like today
I bought that Madeline in about 2002 for my daughter. We still have her. I just purchased two of the other girls from Ebay yesterday.
Love these videos gives me so many ideas and vibes. 😄
I have some of the Anastasia and Sabrina the Teenage Witch dolls, those definitely deserve a mention.
I had no idea there was a Madeline doll. but speaking of her, does anyone remember the Madeline cartoon that was on tiny pop?
In my country, the madeline cartoon was on playhouse Disney (now known as Disney junior)
i dont remember if you covered them already but groovy girls! the dolls from the early 00s with 60s/70s inspired looks
Darcy shares the body sculpt with 1970's Wonder Woman, Cher, and Farrah Fawcet dolls. :)
Hi your so amazing
I used to love the 18 inch Sindy dolls!
I remember having the yasmin, jade and cloe doll with them glittery dresses regret getting rid of them.
i loved thoes tinker bell dolls!
