    The "Ariel and her Sisters" line was apparently discontinued because parents said the stylized bodies created a harmful image to impressionable children. That's right, the waist of a mermaid doll who has a fish tail instead of legs was considered an unrealistic ideal.
    Anyhow, I think their tails had a wire in them like Betty Spaghetti so it was easy to pose. I remember DS also having a short-lived line for the Disney Heroes which actually looked really cool.

      I don't dislike the dolls for their 'unrealistic standards', I hate them cause they have god awful proportions 😂

    • @gingerandcloves
      @gingerandcloves 4 года назад +15

      I actually just sold the Ariel from that set on eBay. They are very strange looking dolls in my opinion. The one cool thing though is that their waists are ball jointed so the tails are super poseable. But they are also incredibly small-waisted.

      To be fair, the waist and arms are so tiny it looks like a mermaid suffering from some sort of eating disorder or sickness...

    I definitely wish they would try to do some more smaller doll lines I feel like bigger ones are more popular right now. Loved the fashion polly pockets. My Grandma also had a dawn doll I used to love playing with and I also had a few of the mattel mini kingdom dolls. Great fun sizes I would really love if they brought some of those back. Definitely really liked the Ariel doll line idea if they brought that back it would be really neat!

    I love the 2000s polly! I definitely chewed on the clothes too, and stuck a pair of the trainers up my nose, which sent me to hospital 😐 needless to say I didn’t do that again!

      i guess he meant more like, classic fashion dolls ya know? like the LOL’s don’t have brushable hair, i would consider the OMG’s to be fashion dolls but the regular LOL Surprise to be more like figurines

    Polly Pockets with the rubber outfits made a comeback in 2018 in the US. She even has a show to go along. They still look gorgeous, but they are cheaper now, even the head and the hair are made out of hard plastic now. Here in Brazil they were never discontinued because they’ve always been a success here. Luckily we have more than 100 different head/hair molds!

    I mean most dolls are skinny & blonde anyway... Needless to say Bratz, Monster High & Barbie being the biggest Doll lines of our time depict skinny female figures... Sure Barbie has "plus size" & is trying to be more inclusive but thats all for commercial reasons & the dolls aren't really cute or fashion, its simply, here's a big girl... So I don't see why you couldn't have a Naomi doll in 2020? What's really the difference.

    I loved the Cassy dolls from the very early 90s. They were made by Hornby and the packaging was like a hard plastic VHS cassette box which, when fitted together would form a house, each one having a card 'room' scene on the cassette box. The dolls were small, I'd guess around 6".

    I LOVE Shibajuku girls. I have several. They're not on display at the moment. I got both Yokos from the first two lines and then wound up with two others at sale prices at our discount store. Oddly, I can't find the Yoko shown in your thumbnail but I know I HAVE her, just in another box. She's probably in the one that has Maleficent. The one thing I don't like is the hair tends to tangle easily. They hang out with my pullips though and fit right in. I agree with you on the smaller dolls. I was SO disappointed the new she-ra dolls weren't action figure sized!

    I just gave away all my Polly stuff not too long ago! I had the So Hip Cruise Ship, a little purple car with a crimped hair Polly, and a fold-up house from 2002 with an air glitter wardrobe.
    I randomly found a doll about two weeks ago! And yes, I did chew her gummy clothes after throroughly washing them 🤣🤣
    I still have my Mary Kate and Ashley dolls!

    I used to have the polly pocket fashion case and I miss it so much! Also my grandma used to have the small Dawn doll. She bought it for my aunt when she was little but by the time me and my cousins were old enough to play with her she was a compete wreck lol. I think she's still in my grandparents toy chest though.

    For anyone wondering, Mary Quant was a British fashion designer who was famous during the 60s. Her work was highly influential in the London Mod / Swinging Sixties look, with her being regarded as the person who invented, or at least brought to the mainstream, mini skirts.
    She passed away last year at the grand old age of 93. A few years back, the V&A did an amazing exhibition about her work, and it was so lovely to see these vintage clothing pieces in person. They also had one of the Mary Quant Daisy dolls on display, and she was BEAUTIFUL! I would love to own one one day.
