I AM SHOOOOCKED that Trollz was a flop. I had EVERY school merch of them. I was already in high school but I watched the show and I had notebooks, pens, a backpack, HUGE FAN!
If you haven´t already - you should make a video about all the different tinker bell dolls over the years - especially in the 2000s when they were doing the whole Disney Pixie hollow thing and there were sooo many different Tinker bells being launched as toys, and most of them looked pretty....odd
This was a fantastic video, thank you Joey for all the research you did. I still have a troll from 1966. I was 10 then, my Aussie cousin bought her for me at the Woolworths near my home. The troll is unmarked, and has grey wool hair, so I'm hoping it is a Dam troll. In second grade we played with our troll dolls at every recess and lunch break, posing them in cave attire in their "cave" carry cases. Those were fun days. I love the trolls, I'm glad I've kept mine.
I thought it was funny that the kid in the advertisement you played decided to wish cherry cough syrup really tasted like cherries, rather than wish for his cough to disappear.
Thank you so much for doing this video. Trolls will always have a special place in my heart. My grandfather loved them and I would buy them for him. He passed when I was 15 leaving all the ones I gave him to me. I treasure them to this day. My daughter and I love the trolls movies and I love sharing something special I had with my grandfather with her as well as so many songs I grew up with.
Wait, I was waiting for you to mention Zelfs because I thought they were related to the trolls. But now I'm assuming they're not and I just grouped them in together lol
Love this now we’re talking after the loss of my favorite Japanese comic book author this makes me feel a little better love troll dolls as well as fashion dolls
I had trolls in the 60's. They were probably not the Dam trolls because they were called "wishniks". They were supposed to bring you luck if you stroked their hair. My mom - who made a lot of my Barbies' clothes - also made tiny outfits for my wishniks. She even made the most adorable little bridal gown with a small bit of satin, some lace and some sequins. Funny the things you remember 😊
I had the original trolls. The giraffe troll, double headed troll and many others. Out of the prize machines, you could get a very small troll. We took them to swim meets, gave us something to play with……great memories. ( also had the troll house )
😂It's pronunced dEEEk. Rhymes eek. Another young YTer just said D.I.C. I remember hearing that pronunced multiple times after cartoons. It's hilarious watching younger people struggle with it, but of course they would. That's why they pronunced it after every show.💀
In the '90's, I had so many Troll Dolls with jewels in their bellies and I love all of them. I'm glad that the Troll Dolls are making kids happy today and sound like Justin Timberlake. 😂
That Troll Barbie jingle lives in my head rent free! I'm so glad you included her/ them. I wanted one so badly as I collected trolls. I was Troll Barbie, 😆. I even had Troll jewelry. I loved my Troll earrings. The treasure trolls were my favorites. I got a multi pack from Sam's Club (warehouse store). I don't remember having Trolls with clothes. I wasn't a Beanie Baby girl, I was a Troll girl.😊❤
I grew up watching Trollz, and it'll always be iconic to me, even if it didn't do well commercially. Side note, I just finished watching all the Barbie animated movies and I'd love if you made a video ranking them or discussing them. Great video as always :)
I grew up with the original troll dolls. To say they weren't fashion dolls leaves out the fact that you could buy separate outfits or patterns to make clothes yourself. There was no mention of Uneeda trolls which had their double horseshoe logo molded on the bottom of their foot
I have a deep appreciation for the classic Troll dolls from the late '80s and early '90s - their original designs truly captivate me. In my view, those eras represent the pinnacle of Troll doll creativity, showcasing some of the most iconic and well-crafted designs in the entire Troll doll line. Although I used to own a substantial collection of these trolls, sadly, many of them have been misplaced over time. Despite this, I recently rediscovered one of my cherished Troll dolls, reigniting my fondness for their nostalgic charm. Furthermore, my admiration extends to the Troll dolls from the '70s, '80s, and '90s. In my opinion, these decades produced the most remarkable and timeless designs in the Troll doll universe. Their unique aesthetic and character make them stand out as the epitome of Troll doll perfection.
I remember the cartoon Trollz when it came on TV I was really into it! the show has that magical girls winx club vibes. I also remember I got a tiny troll doll from a gacha thing and my mom freaked out about how ugly it looked and threw it away 😭
That was fun! I was a kid in the early 90s. I remember the Russ Trolls being everywhere- just rows of them at the grocery store. I remember kids bringing them to school. I got a handful of them myself back them- a bride and groom and a baby and a cheerleader wearing my elementary school colors that my mom bought me when I graduated at the end of 5th grade. I still have them. My mom even has a couple small ones that have sat in the front window of my childhood home for over 30 years since my parents still live there.
I had so many trolls growing up in the 80s and 90s. Most of them were pencil toppers I used in school 😂 I still have 2 of my big 1s. An Irish lepracorn and 1 in a blue body suit with yellow hair.
These are so nostalgic for me. I assume the trolls I had as a kid were thrown away long ago (which I'm glad for, as I absolutely despise the way they look - big ew for me). The new troll dolls are cute!
As someone of Scandinavian descent (family on my mom's side is Norwegian) I stan Troll Dolls. I usually avoid dolls due to paranormal experiences I've had with them. However to me trolls look more like a fantasy creature than a "human" so I don't have a fear of them. I'm mostly afraid of dolls that look like tiny people and that's why I don't have human-like dolls in my house. I had a bunch of troll dolls growing up. I like the classic designs a lot more than the new ones but the new ones are cute too.
We had Trolls when I was little, but unfortunately I grew up in a very strict home. For some reason my family decided Trolls were evil. They made us get rid of them, and we were never allowed to have them again 😢.
I have a troll doll who’s clothes are made out of hair. I have a Poppy plush doll when you squeeze her belly, she talks. I also have Hug Time Harmony Branch and Poppy, when you have them 3 feet apart of each other they sing True Colors together and also say movie 🎥 phrases. The Trolls movies 🎥 have a special place in my heart 💜.
I had some Troll dolls from the 90s and now I collect more Trolls from across franchises. I did order some Trollz dolls they were sassy like the Bratz.I want them to get a reboot again.
Hi, I’ve been a fan of the troll dolls since the 90s, I’ve collected a few of them over the years. I too also love the movies. Brings back find memories for me.
Thanks for the video! I think I had a 90s troll doll at some point. I wish I remembered where or how I lost it. I knew nothing of their history though. The story of their origins is so touching
I used to visit a shop in St Ives, Cornwall as a child and gaze in awe at the wide range of Trolls for sale... they must've been Dam Trolls as I remember the pony and am old, lol. So.... I had one (money was in short supply back then), it had long yellow hair, tipped in black. The hair felt wonderful. And I also had a Swinging Monkey Troll - ah but that was so cute!
Thank you for this very enlightening little doll history lesson! Loved all the classic photos - like JFK being presented a Troll. I learned a lot of new things. I remember the Troll craze of the 90s. I had one off Brand Troll - I think also a keychain - with fuzzy, neon yellow hair. I have to say, I personally find the 60's and 70’s Trolls molds far more charming - especially the often expressive eyes and larger ears. But in general I find everything from the 60s and 70’s prettier - so that doesn’t say much.
i used to like troll dolls. They became popular around the time when i lived with my grandparents. My grandmother HATED them. She thought they were hideous. Every time i got a troll, they would mysteriously disappear within days. i think my grandmother was throwing them away.😆
Wonderful video. I had no idea of the history on Trolls. I was never much into them but I had the tiny pencil toppers in school, I thought those were cool. My younger sister loved them in the 90s
I had one troll doll as a kid, but I have no idea was it original, and after watching this video.. I think there was a moment where the "original" didn't exist, so it's even harder to tell 😅But anyway, great video Joey, your skills are constantly improving, and the new camera.. well, makes you look even more handsome now 😎
I had so many of the Trollz dolls as a kid. I loved them so much honestly. And well back then I also loved the show and even spend a lot of time on the trollz site. Makes me sad to hear it was such a flop.
Scooping in when I see someone talking about my special interest! I have just a few mini blind bag ones and two larger plushies (all hasbro and... they just say dreamworks XD) but holy crap the rabbit holes I've gone down on designs and looks and types I know nearly everything there is to know about the original dolls and the first movie and all their versions over the years. These movies are the absolute best and these dolls are my favorite thing possibly ever. Also funnily enough you didn't mention the first 3D onscreen appearance of Troll Dolls was Toy Story, which was also happens to be Barbie's onscreen debut as well! My personal favorite are the colored hasbro and mini russ dolls, and people make amazing customs as well that are really cool. I'd also love to get a softbody sometime soon because I have a few Cabbage Patch dolls and I just love that build. Thank you so much for this video!
Two video ideas: Go through all of the ballerina Barbies or the Bob Mackie Barbies. There’s some really ugly yet super expensive Bob Mackie Barbies so they’d probably be more interesting to talk about.
I owned one of the wishing gem trolls as a kid. Don’t know what happened to it. I’m a fan of Dreamworks Trolls too and own a couple toys of Poppy who’s my favorite from the franchise. I initially had a plush of Branch because I thought he’d be my favorite when I saw the trailer and vice versa with my main bff with Poppy, though they did like Branch’s humor that we saw in said trailer. However after we saw the movie we both ended up switching on who our favorite character was so I gave my Branch plush to my main bff as we left the theater.
Ooh! I hope you unbox the Trollz doll you ordered and make a video of it! I watched the cartoon as a kid (I had a DVD but can’t remember where I got it) and always wanted dolls but never saw toy commercials for them.
Really loved this video. Never knew they had such a long history and were made by so many companies. I never had a troll but loved playing with them. I badly want the troll barbie though lol.
I love troll and I play them when I was a kid. My dad have russ troll doll collections, I have 2 trolls now, he give it to me. Love from The Philippines
Wow. The museum is only 5 hours away from me. That is a bit far for a day trip, but still very close. It might be fun for you to turn this into a fan gathering for your Midwest fans. Bucket lists are fun to think about and to embellish as you think on it.
I’m one of those younger kids who you would expect to not know anything about trolls it’s the ones in these videos. I have about 16 of them because I saw one and my Mimi’s friends bathroom.
Siempre que veo tus videos pienso que esa habitación donde grabas parece una casa de muñecas, no sé si es un efecto o el ángulo de la cámara... pero con la ventana y la puertecita se ve tan cute!
There is one type of Troll action figure I wish you would have talked about that wasn’t as aggressive as the others: the Teenager Mutant Ninja Turtle Troll action figure. I know this existed as I had one of them and I think it was either Leonardo or Raphael. It was just a TMNT action figure with rooted Troll hair in the turtle’s signature color. Amazing video!!! I was a Barbie girl bit seeing this oh I wish I had one ...and the trollz (with a z haha de zorrooo) looks sooo fantastic!

My mom used to hate troll dolls while she was dating my dad, and he thought it would be funny to propose to her by putting the engagement ring in the middle of a circle of troll dolls... she made him propose a second time, this time a properly romantic proposal thankfully 😆
I remember loving the 2005 version of Trollz dolls. The cartoon was so amazing. Theme song ate, tho.
AGREED,the theme song is so catchy!!
And also Rebbecca Sugar really thought we wouldn't know....
I remember having a Trollz toy from McDonald's, I think it was the red girl
I AM SHOOOOCKED that Trollz was a flop. I had EVERY school merch of them. I was already in high school but I watched the show and I had notebooks, pens, a backpack, HUGE FAN!
Cause you belong

As A Huge Fan Of The Dreamworks Trolls Movies. It’s very interesting to learn about the Backstory of these Dolls.
Glad you enjoyed ❤️❤️❤️

There is also zelfs which took inspiration from the trolls dolls too
Zelfs are too cutee
I actually enjoyed the Trollz cartoon when i was younger. It was fun

I have never understood the appeal of troll dolls, I think they’re hideous but to each their own 😄
I had a troll doll! May have been a knock off actually but I was obsessed ❤

Umm "The Incredible World of Dic"? I dunno about that name, sounds like they would make an entirely different kind of toy lmao
😂It's pronunced dEEEk. Rhymes eek. Another young YTer just said D.I.C. I remember hearing that pronunced multiple times after cartoons. It's hilarious watching younger people struggle with it, but of course they would. That's why they pronunced it after every show.💀
I loved the 90s Trolls. I totally remember having a purple wizard and a pizza chef. There were many others but those are the only ones I remember.
So, dunno why. But in Scotland these things were called gonks back I the day.
I used to have a pencil cap which is a troll doll with pink hair back in the 90s.
Trollz has been and always will be my troll, I love Trollz cartoon.
In the '90's, I had so many Troll Dolls with jewels in their bellies and I love all of them. I'm glad that the Troll Dolls are making kids happy today and sound like Justin Timberlake. 😂
The animal trolls are sooo cuteeee

I had a troll dolls back in the 60's including a troll erasure.
I have a handful of original Russ troll dolls from the 90s and I also have a little Dam troll from 1985 which it has stamped on one of his feet.
I grew up watching Trollz, and it'll always be iconic to me, even if it didn't do well commercially. Side note, I just finished watching all the Barbie animated movies and I'd love if you made a video ranking them or discussing them. Great video as always :)

Ahh...I used to curse my Troll dolls.
My troll dolls were strange creatures that would kidnap the Barbie's sister Stacy all the time.lol
I remember the cartoon Trollz when it came on TV I was really into it! the show has that magical girls winx club vibes. I also remember I got a tiny troll doll from a gacha thing and my mom freaked out about how ugly it looked and threw it away 😭

I’ve still got my Cow/Bull little Troll made by Dam Things. I’ve had it since early 70s.. One of those things I kept. It’s 50 years old..
I had a troll in the 90s that would stick his tongue out when you squeezed his belly.
Omg I recognize that Trolls Barbie! In The Most Popular Girls in School series, Rachel Tice wears the Barbie Troll Tshirt 😂
one thing my mom and i both collect together is trolls that is what got me back collecting dolls
That was fun! I was a kid in the early 90s. I remember the Russ Trolls being everywhere- just rows of them at the grocery store. I remember kids bringing them to school. 1990s Trolls for this collector. Loved to learn about how many variations there are and why. Thanks for this video!
My favorite is the Pop Too Rock Poppy for the movie World Tour she sings
I remember the original trolls but I want an ugly troll. I do love Dreamworks Trolls though, its so much fun.
Russ trolls were the best!! I had so many and refused to have any trolls from another brand as I seen them to be fakes 😂
Guys the old trolls have been brought back at wallmart
They carry a commemorative 65th anniversary troll.
Also Zelfs! were a popular for a time Troll doll. Idk if they count as Trolls but yeah definitely inspired by the Troll craze.
I had some Troll dolls from the 90s and now I collect more Trolls from across franchises. I did order some Trollz dolls they were sassy like the Bratz.I want them to get a reboot again.
I definitely remember the treasure trolls (I believe they were my moms though) but I did enjoy playing with them
Hi, I’ve been a fan of the troll dolls since the 90s, I’ve collected a few of them over the years. I too also love the movies. Brings back find memories for me.

Oh my gosh I’ve had troll dolls since the early 70s and then again bought them in the 90s. Your vid was sooo informative - thank you!
I have Poppy and Riva from Charles band together together. Doll looks super cool.
I used to visit a shop in St Ives, Cornwall as a child and gaze in awe at the wide range of Trolls for sale... they must've been Dam Trolls as I remember the pony and am old, lol. So.... I grew up with DreamWorks Trolls, Poppy is definitely my favorite, and the songs are amazing, Band Together is definitely my favorite Trolls movie
Thank you for this very enlightening little doll history lesson!

My grandmother HATED them. She thought they were hideous.

I went to Walmart yesterday and saw the original troll dolls. Maybe they are making a comeback again 👀👀
Wonderful video. I had no idea of the history on Trolls. I was never much into them but I had the tiny pencil toppers in school, I thought those were cool. My younger sister loved them in the 90s
I have the Troll Barbie, but just the doll and her outfit and shoes.
Your hair looks cute, Joey.
This is a really important video 😂 I loved them trolls along with Barbie and Polly pocket in early 2000s.
I Love the trolls movies so much! Thanks for making this vídeo ❤❤❤
I had one troll doll as a kid, but I have no idea was it original, and after watching this video.. Scooping in when I see someone talking about my special interest! I had a Treasure Troll from the 90s I think it had a yellow gem
I actually have trolls from three different companies in the 90's I realize now. Cool. 😊

My mom had one and now it’s mine, it’s over 30 years old! Im trying to get more ❤
I always loved Trolls!!! Also i thought that the Zelfs by Moose was official Trolls products
The original Dam trolls surely were carved after the looks of newborn monkey babies. They look just alike, you can't change my mind.
I also love, trolls films, and I have some of the trolls dolls by the 2016 trolls I also love the 2005 version of trolls they look kinda like brats
I didn’t realise trollz was a flop I had ruby and onyx im gna try and find them in my loft asap i loved them!
I like the original trolls better than the trolls that I've seen in recent years
I love the original trolls. I have a big collection 😍
In my school we had a box with my little pony g3 dolls and troll dolls under them
Oh no, can’t believe I had one of the fakes! I had the Treasure Trolls! Like, A LOT 😂 My sister was always scared of them haha
OMG I used to watch Trollz when I was 12 y/o! I've never related it to the toy lol
This is such a great overview of trolls! Thanks for doing this! 😊❤
I’m one of those younger kids who you would expect to not know anything about trolls it’s the ones in these videos. I have about 16 of them because I saw one and my Mimi’s friends bathroom.

I had the treasure trolls.
Hi Joey, would you consider making a video about barbies of the world if you haven't already? I would love to hear you talk about them🥰
