Some that you missed this go-round: Cupcake dolls, Polly Pocket, My Child (one of my favorites), American Girl dolls, The Hugga Bunch, Trolls, Cricket (my little sister's obsession), and My Buddy.
I read an article about the Cabbage Patch dolls way back in the days of the initial craze. A woman had supposedly gone out on her lunch hour and managed to snag one, which her coworkers "kidnapped". They left a ransom note demanding that she provide brownies to get the doll back. She didn't take it seriously, so they left a small container of coleslaw on her desk with a note that said something like, "This is her arm. Bring the brownies or you will never see her again!" I thought that was pretty clever, if a bit disturbing, and still remember it all these decades later.

SOOOO nostalgic! I was born in 1981, so this video featured so many that were part of my childhood collection! 🥰 (The vast majority of which I still have) My Little Pony was my absolute favorite- each of my ponies was best friends with one of my sister's ponies. I not only still have my original herd, but I started getting them off eBay as a teenager after the original generation ended! I had a Lady Lovely Locks- my original doll was lost, although I oddly still have her dress and one shoe. Thankfully, I found a replacement for her at a vintage shop a few years ago. I never had a Moondreamer, but I dressed as one for Halloween one year. I still have my Shimmer mommy and baby. I still have my Cabbage Patch, Dolly Surprise, Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite dolls (Patty O'Green, Shy Violet, and Tickled Pink- Rainbow herself and Starlight the horse belonged to my sister), Crystal Barbie, and Barbie and the Rockers Dana doll! (Also Angel Face Barbie who wasn't mentioned in the video.) Oh, I don't think you mentioned the Heart Family! They were friends of Barbie- a set of parents with 2 little toddlers. As a kid, I was more into them than Barbie herself- I had (still have) the car, the nursery, the preschool, the playroom, and the playground plus some extra cousin babies. I predict you will cover American Girl dolls in the next installment- although they were introduced in 1986, their peak popularity was in the 90s. I was a small kid in the 80s. It's actually impossible to recover from so much awesomeness hence I am now an adult doll collector :) There are several lines I really would love to get my hands on, particularly Moondreamers Lovely video, such nostalgia!
I also had a Lil Miss Makeup/Dressup (I’ve found her under both names). You could change her face and hair with ice water. I’m pretty sure I also had a doll called Jenny. I just checked and she was made by Fisher Price and she’s called My Friend Jenny (1982). I’d forgotten about so many of these dolls. What a blast from the past. I’m kinda surprised how many of them I had-my parents must’ve spent a small fortune on me (which would’ve been difficult seeing as how we weren’t rich).❤ Edit to add: The Heart Family set! You didn’t mention that, did you? I think it was Mattel. It had a Barbie and Ken looking mom and dad and a baby boy and girl (like Kelly sized). That Heart Family dad was the only Ken-like doll I had (because who would waste their money buying Ken? 😝). He had to be all my Barbie’s boyfriend 😂 Edit again: My Buddy and Kid Sister (maybe Hasbro?) we’re also pretty memorable. Crap! I’m back again to add: Quints. I loved these. Tiny mini dolls that were quintuplet babies. They had little outfits and furniture. I wanted all of it so bad 😅 And Cupcake Dolls! (I think these were Tonka or Kenner or one of the other younger kid companies.)
I came here for my favorite doll of all time- Lady Lovely Locks and was not disappointed. Sadly, these lovely toys are often forgotten so it made me very happy to see them spotlighted here alongside so many other great toys I had as a child of the 80s!
On my 7th birthday I got a doll in a pink dress. She was a beautiful doll. One of my favorites. But I never knew what line this doll came from. Several months ago I did a deep dive. I tried searching every description I could think of. She was in a ballet outfit and the name on the box was Brenda. Nothing ever came up and it was sort of driving me crazy. What exact doll was this! Now I know. It was a My Beautiful Doll and I was right, her name was Brenda. Thank you for this video and for solving my doll mystery
I was born in 1980. I remember a lot of toys. I remember my parents meeting some guy in an empty parking lot to obtain 2 cabbage patch dolls when the corn silk hair. Apparently they knew a guy who worked at toys r us lol.
I'm surprised no one mentioned the "Starr" dolls! They were out around the same time of Barbie and the Rockers and they each came with a record that you could play but it was made out of cardboard but still played- it was crazy! And they had their own clothing and accessories line!
I loved the Rainbow Bright series, but the dolls weren't very common in my country. I had some themed accessories, but didn't know there was even a doll line until I was much older. I also remember the Garbage Patch kids. One family in my school went to the US and found them, bringing a few dolls, but also lots of collectors cards. They were disgusting and so much fun. So you missed two iconic doll lines that I remember. I am a child of the 80s and 90s. One were the cupcake dolls. They were everywhere. Then also American girl. Those dolls were also everywhere and are still going strong.
The My Child dolls, too! I never had them, but I used to see the commercials all the time. They were meant to compete with the Cabbage Patch doll and looking back, were actually better than they were. I'm sorry they never took off. :/
Excellent video ! Child of the '80s here and this brought back so many wonderful memories. Strawberry Shortcake was one of the first doll lines I fell in love with and I had quite a few. Between my sister and I we had Cabbage Patch Kids, Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony, Jem, She-ra and some of the Barbies mentioned. What I really loved about this video though were the more forgotten dolls you brought up Hot Looks, Maxie , Sea Wees ... Wow I hadn't thought about Sea Wees in years ! You really did your research ! I never knew about the Barbie dolls of the world or that Andy Warhol painted Peaches and Cream Barbie! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and passion! 😊
I was born in '89, but almost all of my toys were acquired at yard sales and hand me downs. So almost all of my dolls and toys were '80s. Almost all of my favorites were 80s versions of things, and I played with them well into the 2000s.
Thank you for that fun fact about Jodi Benson! Such beautiful dolls, some weird, but okay. This was very interesting even though I'm more of a 90's 00's doll fan, I really enjoyed this! Thank you and you are as always amazing, Joey! ❤
LOVED this video! I pretty much had all of these at one point. Other ones that I had and still have were Popples, Popcorn Nosey Bear, Pound Purries and Watchimals.
Nerd fact: The reason there were so many cartoons based on toys in the 80’s is because Reagan massively deregulated marketing to kids in the US. When you read about it as an adult, it’s quite icky. It definitely worked on me! I had almost all of these and have dressed up like half of them for Halloween as an adult. 😹
Woah never heard of Lovely Lady Locks. My older sister (who is an 80s kid) must not have been obsessed with her the way she was with Strawberry Shortcake, TMNT, and MLP. I got all her hand-me-downs in the 90s. 😂
❤ That was the best doll era ever! ❤ I loved so much those beautiful commercials. I hope one day Mattel will release an official Barbie's commercials collection in high definition. ❤
Great list! I had so many of these doll's growing up. I actually have a huge collection of Cabbage Patch Kids that I am slowly letting go. I remember getting one when I was little for Christmas during the craze, the only reason I got one is because one of my parent's friends worked at the Coleco factory.
You’re unlocking so many memories! I didn’t even remember that I had a Moon Dreamer doll or a Mattel Strawberry Shortcake knockoff until I watched this video.
I had the Heart Family and I also had the playhouse and the car. I love most of these dolls of the 80s, I don't think I had most of the dolls that I wanted, but I did have a few good ones.
Thank you for this video. I'm 46. I had 99% of these dolls, including the Mimi, from The Hot Looks dolls. I absolutely loved Spectra. She was my favorite doll. The other dolls that were also around include the following: The Heart Family ( I had the dolls and furniture, but not the grandparents), The Hugga Bunch dolls, The My Child Dolls (I the both Cabbage Patch and My Child dolls), The Micheal Jackson doll (of course I had one LOL), also there was Baby Skate....AND....The Kid Sister doll/My Buddy dolls....AND...Cricket. My parents never bought me the Kid Sister/My Buddy dolls or Cricket and Corky. After watching Child's Play, I totally understand. Anyway, Cabbage Patch dolls were the item back then. At that time, we were living in Japan. My father made sure I had a couple of them, including the sticker books.
Huge appreciation for this video, I grew up in the 80’s, so much nostalgia. I had most of these dolls growing up and wish I still did. Well, I do still have one of my original cabbage patch dolls, but not her birth certificate lol
I remember the craze over cabbage patch kids, it was bizarre. I loved strawberry shortcake, she was my fav. I also desperately wanted the Jem dolls but my mum refused to buy them for me. I never got into Barbie - I preferred the original Sindy (before the American make-over). Thanks for this video, brought back some fond memories ❤
Will watch later, but I wanted to say thank you so much for doing this! 💝 I can't wait to see what you cover! (Already my favorite Barbie of all time is on the cover! 😄)

I was born in '89, but almost all of my toys were acquired at yard sales and hand me downs. So almost all of my dolls and toys were '80s. Almost all of my favorites were 80s versions of things, and I played with them well into the 2000s.
I had a lot of barbie dolls growing up and shes still cool today. ❤❤❤
Yay I love this series of videos! Its so interesting seeing the timeline of how dolls evolved over the decades.
Thank you for that fun fact about Jodi Benson! Such beautiful dolls, some weird, but okay. This was very interesting even though I'm more of a 90's 00's doll fan, I really enjoyed this! Thank you and you are as always amazing, Joey! ❤
I loved so many of these growing up, another favorite was herself the elf
you always do such a great job. Great intro to this episode, you can immediately feel the spirit of the 80s.
Wow i want you to be my history teacher
I had a flower fairies doll. Based on the Cicely Mary Barker poems.
I had so many of these dolls growing up, still have some of them ❤
LOVED this video! I pretty much had all of these at one point. Other ones that I had and still have were Popples, Popcorn Nosey Bear, Pound Purries and Watchimals.
I miss the 80s dolls
So fun to see all these throwbacks to my early childhood. Also, you are so beautiful, love the sparkles and sweatband, spot on
Im a 90s kid but I LOVE Rainbow Brite, i feel she would be a hit if she had a “bratz” makeover
I just got my first dream cabbage Patch doll from the US (I‘m 24) 😂❤
I love 80s dolls. Great Video! 😍
I loved Jem and the Holograms! Still do. I wish I would've them as a doll too. Same with Lady Lovelylocks.
I loved so much those beautiful commercials.
The 80s really had the best dolls .❤
I have been following you for a while and this has been one of my favourite videos
We had soo many strawberry shortcake dolls and my little ponies! And of course Barbies. And we each had a couple cabbage patch kids too.
My sister had moon dreamers! She had a playset house and everything! Pretty sure I played with them some as a kid.
I had "My Child" dolls. They had beautiful soft felt covered faces and big eyes. x
"And the colour was... neon!" (Proceeds to show clips on muted sepia tones) 🤣
I loved Lady Lovleylocks, Rainbow Brite & Barbie and the Rockers film when I was little ❤🥰
R.I.P. Heather O'Rourke 😢
Amazing!! 👏👏💖💖
OMG! Sea Wees! I totally forgot about the set I had as a kid. I always love the memories your channel brings back. ❤️
I love this video ❤ what a fun trip down memory lane. Thanks for posting. Please do a 90’s version
Missed this series!!! Please keep doing it 🥹
I remember the craze over cabbage patch kids, it was bizarre.
When I first saw Ever After High dolls they reminded me of Lady Lovely Locks dolls with their rounder faces and princess themes ❤
I had a lot of these even though I wasn't born until 1986. Hooray for yard salez and stores still having the toys for sale for a long time.
I recently bought a tiny Rainbow Brite Tickled Pink figure from five below. It's absolutely adorable.
Lovely locks and the pixie tails. I've been trying to remember what these dolls were called. I also had a paper doll collection of them.
I loved the moondreamers or whatever they were called and of course barbie.
Yes please for the Cabbage Patch Kids deep dive!
My childhood! I had most of these. ❤❤❤❤
