@@BeautyInsideABox I mean,I actually always thought that Ken deserved a lot more love than he deserves to be honest I mean he generally seems to love and care for Barbie and I actually believe that maybe Ken and Barbie could actually work together to be an amazing couple and even if Barbie gets married, that shouldn’t stop her from pursuing her careers I mean,I think that would be great. Positive representation to be honest.
Since the line is meant for careers, I've always thought the I Can Be wedding doll was like, "I can be a girl who marries an old guy who dies soon after and I get a huge paycheck". We love a business savvy queen.
My grandma did that with her 6th husband. She accidentally killed him having sex and his ex wife got the farm and the money and all she got was his debt from buying ostriches 😭🤣
As someone who's planned their dream wedding more times than I can count, I can attest that there's a world of difference between wanting to be a bride and wanting to be married.
I remember a fashion doll ad and the song, set to the typical wedding march, went, "She moves by herself... It's such fun to play... With the bride doll that moves... And throws her bouquet!" There was a wedding runway type deal playset that the doll could move down!
Mom sewed a lot of clothes for our Barbie dolls, but for some reason she drew the line at wedding dresses. We'd usually end up making them ourselves out of toilet paper. And poor Ken would be up there at the altar in his one suit of clothes, barefoot or in swim fins, and his head clumsily reattached with super glue or modeling clay. His best man would be a girl doll in drag. Those weddings never would have made the Barbieland society page.
My foster brother had a G.I.Joe. my youngest sister had Barbie. Oh, the kidnappings and holdings for ransom of Barbie by G. I. Joe on her wedding day by my then- 9 year old foster brother. However, the play was cut short when I decided turn about was fair play and arranged for Barbie to take out G.I.Joe before he deployed on one of his military missions. I begged for the Navy G.I.Joe, but the parents said no.
I did see them while I was researching for this video but decided not to include them. I also didn’t include a lot of collector bride Barbie dolls. Maybe one day they can have their own video
Club Wedd was Target's bridal registry. So the Club Wedd dolls were exclusive to Target. I also didn't see the other Bob Mackie Bride, Vera Wang Bride, the 2 Reem Acura brides, Grace Kelly Silkstone Bride, and 2 Badgley Mischka brides. But great job. As a bride doll lover I have quite a few of the higher end collectors dolls!
Thanks for the info! I thought the title must be referencing something. I didn’t include all the designer collaborations and collector dolls because I wanted to focus on playline dolls
Hi Joey, I was heartened to see a barbie commercial today that featured both boys and girls. I instantly thought of your story and was happy to think that in the future this may not be a problem anymore. Watching your videos is so nostalgic for me, I'm always able to spot dolls that I had in my own childhood and these memories make me smile. Keep doing your thing!
Barbie had some amazing Wedding sets in the 90s and that Chapel... I NEED IT. It's to die for!! The gowns were so beautifully done. Girls shouldn't have to aspire to be brides but I love how much intricate work and detail they put into the gowns and the playsets. Also I like that you pointed out about the lack of Ken and what they're really going for with these sets, cause I hadn't even thought about that, it's not even about the act of marriage itself, just the ceremony and the fantasy and glamour that kids would find appealing.
I had the bridal barbie and Ken with the cake and pink plates and tiny forks... I was obsessed with the tiny plates and forks...I didn't even care it was a wedding... I would set the table for them like the fanciest picnic ever
Can't wait to see the Lesbian Brides Barbie & Midge Giftset! LOL BTW, I believe Club Wed Barbie was a play on the name of the popular resort vacation company called Club Med. Love your videos, Joey, thanks so much.
oooh you should have mentioned the Mary Jane (Spider-Man) wedding Barbie !! She’s in a wedding dress from one of Spider-Man’s comics. She’s the first Barbie I bought as an adult collector and I absolutely LOVE her !! 😌🫶🏼
"It makes her look like a Sailor" Immediately thought of the end scene in 'Clueless' where Dionne is saying how her Wedding will have a Sailor theme, and all the Bridesmaids wear Sailor hats! lol xo
Hello - I just wanted to say thank you so much for your videos. Am not a Barbie doll fan here, but my grandmother was and used to collect all these dolls. Even though she passed away many years ago - it's great to see these dolls because I remember seeing them in her house and it reminds me of the joy Barbie brought her. When I saw your videos, it brought up a lot of good memories I hadn't thought of in years. Thank you so much for that.
Barbie is not only a savvy career woman, she's also a cosplayer who can live out any fantasy. Never stop, Barbie, just go back to your old fashion designers, the new ones do you dirty.
Great video! I learned a lot while watching this. Even though it isn’t doll-related, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the various wedding dresses shown in the 2000’s Barbie movies. There were so many beautiful ones! My friend and I desperately wanted to have a double wedding and dress up as Anneliese and Erica from Princess and the Pauper.
David's bridal shop also partnered with Mattel to create barbie dolls that showcase some of their top dresses. mattel also made a vera wang barbie doll as a tribute to her amazing work as a bridal designer.
i never thought i'd learn about past societal issues regarding marriage through a video about dolls. i'm baffled and appalled at what was the standards back then for a girl to be considered attractive. but somehow i'm not surprized, and it makes me think of the "trad wives" into a new perspective. you are fantastic!

I like that they included a bride in the I Can Be line. It presents marriage as an option -- one of many -- instead of "I can have a career and still be a bride too," you know?
The life of Barbie lies in the mind of her owner. That being said, I was so happy to find that there is such diversity in the kingdom of Barbie now. My fav Christmas gift this year, is Freckled and crimped brown haired Barbie, along with scrubs and a stethascope accessories. Love the options of Barbie today that fit along with the world. I had the first black B, Christie as well as a younger Sister, Skipper. I am so glad to see, brown, yellow, parapalegic, "curvey", purple haired, breads, veterinarians, astronauts, pilots, zoologists, etc. I say, get married or not, its all about the mind of the child....and thank you for the work to creat this 👍🏾
I love how there’s so many bride and wedding Barbies but she’s never been “officially” married in her lore, only her friend Midge officially married and had kids , which barbie was the bridesmaid AND doctor for! like what an amazing friend 💅✨
Club Med was a honeymoon/ vacation destination. Club Wedd is Mattel's way of making a play on words along with a gentle hint that Club Med could be a honeymoon destination.
I love how they designed the dresses in the fashion that was trending at the time. It is fun to see each one and think "oh yeah my mom wore that 70s wedding dress" and my older sisters who got married in the 90s. Up until the most recent plastic ones anyway.
11:51 made me laugh so hard bc i read the "country bride" title and instinctively did the arm swing and you did it at the exact same time 😭 loved this video!!!

I would LOVE to see you talk about the evolution of The Monster High Line from the very beginning, i always love your reactions on monster High products. I hope you make that video one day! Anyways, what a fun video!
Romantic bride barbie was the first doll i ever got as a kid. I came across this video looking for what this bride doll was called and just bought one on eBay... for my niece. It will be her first barbie!
I love this video! As a child I owned a #4 Barbie but did not have the wedding dress. This video flushes out all the later Barbie brides 1990-2014 that I did not know about. One of my favorite vintage dresses though was skipped, in 1966-7 called "Here Comes the Bride" #1665. I love the slender look, the huge veil and delicate bouquet. 1972 Sweetheart Satin (the night gown one) is actually another of my favorites - the age of aquarius and all. I doubt I will get all of these that you have shown but I know now what to shoot for. Thanks again. This must have been a massive amount of work!
Club Wedd was a thing at Target when I worked there around that time, and I didn't use it but I believe it was their branded wedding registry and wedding related items? I'd have to look into it more to know for sure.
The custom gay wedding set has always bothered me because they use the same two kens 😭 they look like twins getting married 🥴 Wish they would of used a different Ken haha
Mattel did produce and Release the: William and Catherine Royal Wedding Set In limited quantities. They also produced and released a line of bride dolls exclusive to "David's Bridal" wedding shops.
Loved this video. I think I spotted a wedding dress I've been trying to figure out what year it was from. Thank you! Also, if I remember right, Club Wed was a guide to planning weddings. It either was its own magazine or was included in a wedding planning magazine in the early 90s.
I found pictures of the backs of the Club Wedd Barbie boxes. It was a bridal registry kiosk at Target, and it says the dolls can be used as a part of centerpieces at your wedding or shower or for gifts for the flower girl or wedding party. It's like they were aimed at actual adults who were about to get married.
Yep club wed was a target store registry for brides .they were able to scan things needed for their wedding gift registry. They also had a baby shower registry .I don't think they do that anymore.
""I shouldn't mind being a bride at a wedding, if I could be one without having a husband." ~ Bathsheba Everdene, Far From the Madding Crowd; and, apparently, Barbie!

Barbie is a great role model. While some Karens complain of Barbie’s appearance being unrealistic, and “causing kids to have insecurities”. Barbie doesn’t intentionally make kids insecure. Barbie’s message of “you can be anything” is very positive, encouraging, motivating and inspiring. Barbie was one of the first role models in media, especially targeting young girls, that they could be more than a bride or a mother. I applaud Ruth Handler for never letting Barbie to be officially married, because especially at the time, when a woman got married, being a wife would be a part of their identity and it would define them, Barbie never being married caused her to never be defined by a man. Even today it’s Barbie and Ken. Barbie’s name is first, if they were married it would’ve been Ken’s name’s first, because traditionally it’s always the man’s name before the woman’s. Karens will complain if their kid wants to be like Barbie, but Barbie portraying their dream job and kids wanting to pursue their dream job isn’t a bad thing. Even in the slim chance of kids comparing themselves to Barbie and wanting to look like her, it’s the parents job to teach their kid that they are also beautiful. Also, if kids compare their appearance to Barbie, it won’t be restricted to just Barbie, they’re most likely also comparing themselves to other people. Also, if kids compare themselves to Barbie, you can’t blame them or Barbie. Because the world we live in is a comparing world, for example at school kids are compared by their grades to their classmates. Even parents can compare their kids without realising. Barbie is also a great role model by never saying this career is better than the other, something real people say a lot.
1991 dream bride Barbie was a dream!..yes all the late 80s and 90s barbies had princess Dianas wedding dress influenced and inspiration for sure! Very well reserched video as always. May i suggest you please rank every Rupunzel Barbie since there have been afew or ranking every" Barbie at court" (french, english etc).
Another great video, Joey! The reason the statistics for girls and women in college were low back then is because many went to college specifically to find a husband. (This is the cultural background for The Help. Main girl Skeeter was the exception in that she wanted a career.) I did spy a dress I think I have, or it's similar. The chapel and other accessories for the weddings were really nice. Maybe those could be made available again?
Weirdly enough I never had a bride Barbie growing up. I did have a couple of different groom Ken's though. One of them was that 2006 one shown in the video!
I'm actually expecting for you to include the Wedding Rapunzel one - Mattel did a whole entire line dedicated to that wedding that we didn't even see much of in the actual Barbie movie 🤣
I love your videos. Can you please do a video about the unusual Barbies, like the Rosie O'Donnell Barbie, The Scooby Doo Barbies & (I just recently saw this) the 1998 The Far Out Barbie & Mod Miss Piggy?
The Dream Wedding Barbie with Stacey & Todd was my first ever Barbie! Stacey and Todd are lost to time, and the bride herself is looking a bit rough, but I do still have her in my now reduced collection :)
Club Wed is a play on Club Med, I don't think it exists anymore but it was a brand for vacation rentals and resorts, I only know about it because my parents had their honeymoon there before I was born
Omg I had that country bride Barbie. My school had a tradition of having Santa come and give us gifts (donated by pto) and I got that doll from Santa with Ken. I played with it for years and still have the dress somewhere.
Love Barbie!! Malibu Barbie was my First Barbie as a little girl back in the early 70s . I continued to love Barbie‘s as I grew into adulthood . I Cllect the Holiday Barbie every year at Christmas . Love the Barbie Clothes and accessories also . Love your Collection Joey !! Laura From Canada . Very new to your channel April 2024!!👍🏻💯☀️😊🌺🌸🇨🇦🇨🇦

Wedding bouquet Barbie who can actually toss the bouquet is such a cute and funny idea, I bet it inspired a lot of dramatic play scenarios
Totally!! 😂

In the 90s, Club Med was a really popular resort chain. ‘Club Wedd’ is almost definitely a pun on ‘Club Med’
Seeing the Barbie logo font changing from decade to decade, could you make a video about the logo and aesthetics transformation during the history?

Also the Princess and the Pauper Wedding Set
I love your videos. Can you please do a video about the unusual Barbies, like the Rosie O'Donnell Barbie, The Scooby Doo Barbies & (I just recently saw this) the 1998 The Far Out Barbie & Mod Miss Piggy?
The history was super interesting!! Thank you for sharing! 😮💜
In the 80's or 90's i bought separate Bride fashions to put on my Barbies i had Ken marry barbie
Joey, thank you ever so much for the video! I really enjoyed watching it... I love Barbie! ... blessings!
Great video! I wish I had started my collection just focused on Bride Barbie because it they’re all stunning in their own way
I never had a Ken, but I did have a GI Joe. He made a good Best Man for Barbie's lesbian weddings when I was a kid.
The Dream Wedding Barbie with Stacey & Todd was my first ever Barbie! Stacey and Todd are lost to time, and the bride herself is looking a bit rough, but I do still have her in my now reduced collection :)
I think Club Wedd was the Target store gift restistry for couples getting married.
Club Wed is a play on Club Med, I don't think it exists anymore but it was a brand for vacation rentals and resorts, I only know about it because my parents had their honeymoon there before I was born
Ha! Club Med is so 25 years ago!…. Sigh…. I am old….
Omg I had that country bride Barbie. My school had a tradition of having Santa come and give us gifts (donated by pto) and I got that doll from Santa with Ken. I played with it for years and still have the dress somewhere.
I think there were some wedding dress fashion packs in the Fashion Avenue line as well.
Wish we still had amazing fashon packs like that. Miss the fashion avenue line.
Growing up I had the 2007 wedding day barbie and I remember this doll vividly because I once got caught playing with her in the middle of the night
You look so lovely in this video! I really like the silhouette of your shirt and that necklace is perfect.
I think Club wed is a play on "Club Med" resorts, maybe a destination wedding?
A missed gem is the Japanese market Bride Barbie for Barbie’s 30th anniversary it was licensed by Mattel but made by Bandai
Favourite doll channel, love your editing, length of the videos and, your witty comments and the video themes ❤❤❤
