Well we used to have aussie representation in Summer and Blaine, but Summer was changed to American in life in the dreamhouse, as well as her dark skin and hair being changed to pale strawberry blonde for the rest of her existence so Summer could have been aboriginal initially

I've got to ask, it seems that the 1990's United Colors of Benetton Barbie collection is never mentioned in US Barbie channels, were these dolls ever released in the US? Because I'm an 80's child and I remember the Benetton Barbie line was HUGE in Europe. It was a very different style for Barbie at the time: no princess dresses, no pastels, very fashionable, colorful mix-and-match styling. Had a few Teresa Dolls..Jewel hair Mermaid Teresa ,Hula hair Teresa, the glitter hair malibu beach doll you have , miamai beach teresa and very velvet Teresa where very pretty..i did have a lot of Keira dolls aswell.never had a Midge,Kristy or Skipper doll. So yeh growing up for me Barbies besties where Teresa and Kiera.
Yes the Hollywood hair short bangs look was an alternative haircut from the early nineties. I remember that. Very urban. I wouldn't have minded if they had done that because it was so niche, said a lot about the rebel attitude of any girl with that haircut. But I personally wouldn't buy a Teresa with such short bangs. Glad they did her longer because it's less Doom and Gloom. Longer bangs show a more positive outlook on the world and its potential. Funny how a haircut can say so much.
Teresa's surname being Rivera originates from the 1999 book "Barbie: High Sea Adventure". However, this book is set in an AU, and I believe Midge had a different surname than usual in that book. But because this is the only time Teresa has been given a surname, a lot of people consider it canon.
I love you so much for doing this types of videos ❤😂. I can't watch now but I'll watch later can you do more? Maybe Kelley or Stacie? Or whoever ...they are GREAT

i wonder. Has there ever been a Happy Kwanza Christie doll? Has Christie ever had something of her own that wasn't directly tied to Barbie's theme? It's like they rolled out the red carpet for Teresa in the 90s. Lol This video has made me realize that i never once saw Christie or Kira with their very own stand-alone doll, like Teresa's Quinceañera. Even Ken gets to have his own thing. Decades worth of things. If he wasn't magically shaving, he was playing big brother.😆
I love the video ❤ I wish I could be a little more longer like talking about the happy holidays Teresa representations for 2016/2017 etc … but you did it great I love Teresa she is Latin and it’s iconic !! ❤❤❤ thank you!
Teresa was a Latin barbie?? Deep. My cousin had almost every Teresa doll mattel made. She told me she liked them because they were brunette like her & also her mom's first name is Teresa who is my aunt. I'm also a brunette I liked both the brunette & blonde barbies but just liked the blonde barbies more. Ironically the majority of my doll's are blonde. Never really saw to many brunette doll's except for Teresa doll's (my cousin's "barbie" doll's) & I saw cabbage patch doll's with different hair colors. I remember buying 2 mechanical cabbage patch doll's who one had black hair & the other brunette hair both white girl doll's between 1995 & 1998 & thinking how both cool & rare it was to see doll's with other hair colors other than blonde. The one was cabbage patch snacktime kid doll. Kind of ironic the day I got her from the thrift store with her birth certificate & accessories stapled in a ziplock bag on her. The news on tv saying she was recalled for eating fingers, hair etc. I remember looking for a on & off switch not finding one. After watching the news & figuring out who I had as for cabbage patch doll. She ended up sitting on my dresser just at night because I didn't want her having a midnight snack as in me to chomp on in my sleep. I liked her during the daytime~ 🤷♀️😂 The other cabbage patch doll I bought in 1998 she talked & ate food. I named her Chelsea. I don't remember which cabbage patch doll she was specifically but I did buy her new in her box when Dollar General put her on clearance for $20 back then.
I had the sparks roller blades Teresa and she was my favorite doll! It never occured to me that there was a recall of the doll (though the fire hazard totally makes sense)! She was honestly the main character in my Barbie play, I just loved her so much!
I adore this series 🩷🩷🩷🩷 Would love one highlighting Kira (even though they kept changing her name every five minutes). But a deep dive into the past looks of Barbie’s “Asian-American friend” with the super pretty face and long, shiny hair would be loads of fun ❤️❤️❤️❤️
YESSS I loved her dolls as a kid and still do, she’s beautiful 🥺 Edit: apparently her name was “Lea” when I was little (Seriously why do they keep changing her name omg)
Kira name wasn't constantly being changed. Dana/Becky, Lea, Nikki (animal loving), western fun Nia, and Miko were not the same person. Miko and Nia weren't even asian, they were hawaiian and native american.
YES please! I am from Hawaii and it was a big deal when "Tropical Miko" was released -- Miko is Kira's predecessor and there is some overlap on the facial molds IIRC. It was so amazing to have a doll that looked like many of us!
Teresa 1990 face mold is just as iconic as the Midge 1985 face mold. And together with Superstar and Mackie, these will always be so nostalgic for me as a 90's kid. I don't understand why they have to constantly change it, it feels like it's never for the best... I love this series, please keep making these kinds of videos! I'd love to see one on the Mackie face mold, even though there are many dolls with this sculpt, especially collector, I am curious what you think of the slight change she's had with the fashion fever series, where her head was sort of enlarged and features changed a bit. I always notice it and wonder why they chose to do that...
I've heard the story before about the girl spraying spraying hair spray on her little brother then rolling the skating doll over him. But, did the mother not think it was strange that her children were playing that way?? 🤔 Great video as always
Am I the only one who never, not in the 90s and not later, got a Latina vibe from Teresa?! Lol I never got that. Loved Teresa in my childhood, she always looked cool, although I found her early „smootching lipps“ a bit weird 🥰
Great history lesson! I wonder if there will be a sequel to The Barbie Movie and if so maybe it can really feature some of the iconic friends. Who would you want to star as Teresa?
Love these type of videos. Would love to see videos on Kira and Summer! But chill on the Steffie shade 😂😂 the Steffie face mold is one of my favorites - like top 3 of all Barbie face molds.

1980s Teresa looked like an upbeat 80s gal, 35th anniversary Teresa with the mermaid dress and low pony looks like a villain from an 80's Telenovela and I'm here for it! Seeing quinceanera Teresa reminds me of all the knockoff barbie dolls with handmade quinceanera dresses sold for decoration
I'm a huge fan of Teresa doll. I collect what I like and I've just bought 35th Anniversary Teresa from eBay immediately after I saw this video. Thanks, Joey for this and your other videos on Barbie and other fashion dolls.
I remember Teresa but never actually had one growing up! I actually just got my first one a few months ago when I found Cool Times Teresa for a few bucks at an antique mall- minus her original outfit! Her hairbands had turns to gunk in her hair that I had to work out, but she looks as good as new now, and I'm excited to have her!
I love Teresa! I feel more attached to her than to Barbie herself 😅 I remember getting the Rio de Janeiro Teresa doll on my 6th birthday and she became my favourite barbie doll. I loved her because, just like me, she had brown hair and not blonde. A few years ago my mum found her in a box of old dolls of me and my sister. She had very messy hair and I didn't know how to fix that back then so I let my mum give her away to some kids who lived near us. When I learnt how to fix doll hair I deeply regretted my decision. I hated myself for giving away my favourite childhood doll 🤣 Thankfully last summer I found the exact same Teresa doll on Amazon still in the box, so I got my beloved childhood doll back 😁
Ha! I got me a couple of Teresa dolls in the early 90s…. One of them was Baywatch Teresa which I didn’t know was a foreign issue only doll…. So she’s expensive to find on EBay…… I actually bought her cause she looked like a Mexican Actress of the time….
Great video, Joey! I remember a lot of these Teresa dolls. I didn't notice the change in head molds in the late 80s/early 90s. Didn't even notice that Summer's head mold is being used now. 😅 My only complaint with current Teresa is the eye color. Why did Mattel give her green eyes? Growing up she always had brown eyes.
this is the coolest video about Teresa that I've ever seen. Thank you, thank you. It's like I've read a story about her and visited a museum. fantastic. I will probably review it many times with pauses❤
I had many Teresa dolls throughout the Barbie line...her color scheme was usually more appealing and she looked like me(then I fell in love with the Belle dolls and played with those more). I remember waiting for her to come out with the California Dream line but we never saw her in stores. This is literally the first time I'm seeing her in your video so...wow!
Teresa has always been my favorite. Growing up I had two dolls that were my favorite one was Palm Beach Barbie and Surf City Teresa both of which I still have from my childhood and also purchased new in box versions of the dolls that I have displayed in my doll room/office.

I had the tropical one growing up and she was one of my favorites because her hair was really nice and she looked the most like me. So she was who I played with as myself. I am not Hispanic though. 😅
Hahah! I think lots of kids with brown hair related to Teresa
@@BeautyInsideABox Right!
I was sooo happy and proud when I saw a doll with my name 😁 I loved playing with Barbies when I was younger and now I love watching videos about them 😁
Hope you like the video Teresa! Great name! ❤️
@@BeautyInsideABox thank you ☺️ Yes I absolutely love your videos!
Teresa de los 90 y 2000 tiene ese toque de magia, de la Nostalgia de barbie 💖
for some reason i had several teresa dolls as a kid- some were featured in this video, it was nice to see them again after all these years!- and i always thought she was really pretty. i still have some pieces of her outfits!
My favourite face mold - Teresa 90s face mold. I have more than 30 doll on this mold.
Diverse dolls like Teresa make me hate the world a bit less, I love that kids get to have dolls that remind them of themselves
the teresa doll with the pink shirt looks so pretty!!
I have one! She is!
Thank you so very much for taking the time & energy to do this video! I know an awful lot of work goes into doing this sort of "documentary" & we really appreciate it! Sending you lots of love & hugs from the USA! ☺️💜
I’ve been waiting for this video for ages! So glad you did it!
Thanks for waiting! Hehe hope you enjoy it
Love Teresa! I had Sun Jewel Teresa back then (still do) , and to me she was the prettiest doll ever, liked her even more than Barbie (and gosh, did I love Barbie!) . Teresa and Christie are the best. ❤
Hoping a Summer video is next. Barbie, Teresa, and Summer were the iconic trio in the 2010s
would love to see Kira's story next if it's not too much to ask for...
4:53 can we please bring back the “Cali Girl” line
A few months back you mentioned a video talking about Barbie as a bride. Is that still coming? Take your time of course, I’m just really excited about that one.
Finally, someone sensible said that in Brazil people speak to you in Portuguese
Teresa is my favorite character as well as Christie
Also surf city Teresa
Love all 90’s Barbie’s friends! Hope to see a similar video about Kira/Miko
Yeas! The 90s were the best time for Barbie’s friends.
Yeas! The 90s were the best time for Barbie’s friends.
Miko and kira are different people and different races, hawaiian ans vietnamese
Teresa was my first Barbie. She was the WNBA doll. Ah! My childhood revisited.
Actually in the movie princess adventure, she is directly called rivera by the principal. So her name IS Rivera
Please keep doing these. I love seeing the character history.
I love you so much for doing this types of videos ❤😂. I can't watch now but I'll watch later can you do more? Maybe Kelley or Stacie? Or whoever ...they are GREAT
You have no idea how excited I am for this video! 🙌🏽💓😍 Teresa is my favorite!!! The 90s face mold is my favorite!! So stunning and brings so much nostalgia!! Thank you for this 💓💓💓💓
Didn't have a lot of Teresa dolls growing up but I did have two: Happenin' Hair Teresa and Perfect Pink Teresa.
I always thought that Teresa was Italian. I wish they would do an Italian doll since they've done all these other cultures
Gee…. Simple 30 second google search shows they have done Italian Barbie….
They do italian dolls in dolls of the world, and the island princess movie is set in italy and thus the tie in dolls, are italian.
i wonder.
Has there ever been a Happy Kwanza Christie doll?
Has Christie ever had something of her own that wasn't directly tied to Barbie's theme?
It's like they rolled out the red carpet for Teresa in the 90s. Lol
This video has made me realize that i never once saw Christie or Kira with their very own stand-alone doll, like Teresa's Quinceañera.
Even Ken gets to have his own thing. Decades worth of things.
If he wasn't magically shaving, he was playing big brother.😆
I know right! Midge had so many lines that revolved around her and Christie had nothing.
There's a Kwanzaa Barbie from 2006, but she's not marketed as being Christie/Nikki, just Barbie
@@emmakirton So it really doesn’t count.
@@BlakeGildaphish76 Well sure not as a Christie Kwanzaa doll
Oh yes I forgot about her would love to see her next
YESSS I loved her dolls as a kid and still do, she’s beautiful 🥺
Edit: apparently her name was “Lea” when I was little
(Seriously why do they keep changing her name omg)
Kira name wasn't constantly being changed. Dana/Becky, Lea, Nikki (animal loving), western fun Nia, and Miko were not the same person. Miko and Nia weren't even asian, they were hawaiian and native american.
@@KingOfGaymeslea is not kira, she replaced kira like how nikki replaced christie.
Great video as always
Sounds like that girl wanted to purposely set her brother fire..
Much love from South Africa ! love the vids, the princess vids hooked me on your channel
Thanks for watching! Love from London ❤️
Love these type of videos. Would love to see videos on Kira and Summer! But chill on the Steffie shade 😂😂 the Steffie face mold is one of my favorites - like top 3 of all Barbie face molds.
The Steffie face mold is actually my favorite! But, it’s not Teresa to me. That’s all.
Oh my goodness! I love Teresa as much I love Christie and Midge! ( Midge is always my top favorite 😉) I enjoy the video so much! I'd love to you make a video for Kira - Raquelle or Summer!! ❤❤❤
As a fan from Brasil I thank you for pointing that we are Latinos but we don't speak Spanish here .💕🇧🇷
I wonder if they’ll ever give us a proper Latina Barbie™️. Maybe she can be from Texas and they can call her Dallas Barbie.
I'm a huge fan of Teresa doll. I collect what I like and I've just bought 35th Anniversary Teresa from eBay immediately after I saw this video. Thanks, Joey for this and your other videos on Barbie and other fashion dolls.
One of my oldest dolls is Puerto rican heritage barbie which uses Teresas face
I remember Teresa but never actually had one growing up! I actually just got my first one a few months ago when I found Cool Times Teresa for a few bucks at an antique mall- minus her original outfit! Her hairbands had turns to gunk in her hair that I had to work out, but she looks as good as new now, and I'm excited to have her!
It's so funny, because I thought Teresa looked a lot like me when I was younger.
I didn't know she was latina, but knew she was Barbie's friend.
Teresa is my favorite friend of Barbie's. I grew up knowing Teresa with the 1991 face so for me that will always be my favorite 😍
Teresa is iconic and I love her
I love Teresa! I hated myself for giving away my favourite childhood doll 🤣
Thankfully last summer I found the exact same Teresa doll on Amazon still in the box, so I got my beloved childhood doll back 😁
For me, Teresa always had green eyes and she always will.
Ha! I got me a couple of Teresa dolls in the early 90s…. One of them was Baywatch Teresa which I didn’t know was a foreign issue only doll…. So she’s expensive to find on EBay…… I actually bought her cause she looked like a Mexican Actress of the time….
OMG the Teresa in the light blue dress with the fluffy trim and the dog with matching hair!!! I had that one and it was one of my favorites
Another nice review. Teresa is most definitely my favorite Barbie friend. I wish Mattel wouldn’t be afraid to come out with friend dolls for Barbie.
Such a good retrospective! You always put in so much effort into your videos!
I've seen a Latina astronaut Barbie doll in stores recently which I think is meant to be Teresa
Omgggg, this took me through so many happy memories and also taught me so much! Thank you so much for your channel 💕
Great video!!! Good to see you!!
I remember having the Rollerblade Barbie and playing with her rollerblades. 🤣
My sister had the Lights and Lace Teresa and her makeup was incredible: silver eyeshadow and metallic purple lips
That cali girl game just unlocked a memory for me 4:40
It be so cool if you could do a video on all of Barbie's face molds and maybe rank your favs!
TERESA IS SO COOL I LOVE HOW DIVERSE SHE IS AND DIFFERENT ❤
I love the 90's Teresa face mold - one of my favorites in the entire Barbie universe.
All Stars and Hollywood Hair Teresa are my two favourite dolls ever. STUNNERS!
Teresa has always been my favorite. Growing up I had two dolls that were my favorite one was Palm Beach Barbie and Surf City Teresa both of which I still have from my childhood and also purchased new in box versions of the dolls that I have displayed in my doll room/office.
My sister's first Barbie doll was Teresa California dreams. Her doll came with a cassette tape we loved that song! This doll is the reason why my sister's fav color is yellow
Teresa dolls were almost always my favorites as a kid! I vibed with her.
