I'm pretty sure there's an article somewhere where the hair and makeup artists talked about how they made Dua's mermaid wig look bad on purpose because the mermaid doll's hair is usually super bright and fake-looking. I know I read it a month or two ago. Also, Issa mentioned Greta asked her what she wanted her president barbie to wear, and she chose a ballgown. :) side note: i wish they would've had paul rudd on set to be the one shaving ken from the 70's.
Yeah they hair and makeup team was AMAZING on this film. I saw a video on how they had to have a peachy pink toner made especially for Margot’s wigs so her hair matched perfectly with all the pink of her outfits and the set, so I knew that Duas wigs had to be intentional. I think they could have hammed the fakeness up even more? But I don’t know how they’d do that without them looking terrible.
@@beehaslam707 yes! i heard the woman in charge of the wigs say she had toner on hand at all times and had to tone each wig to match each outfit accordingly. and they said that Ryan's hair is less toned and more bleach yellow the worse Ken gets in his journey - which is why his roots show at one point. I need an art book for the movie pronto.
Hi. What was soo funny for me in this video is when Sasha and her 3 friends was related to the Bratz dolls. I laughed sooo hard. I thought they were the Bratz also. "The Mean Girls".
In the Barbie Mount Rushmore the Asian doll is specifically Oriental Barbie from 1980. Each doll face on the mountain is the first of it's kind, first Barbie ever, first black Barbie, first Asian Barbie, and the first Teresa doll.
I'm hoping for a bonus round of Margot Robbie's IRL outfits at the various premieres and red carpet thingies! I believe most (if not all) of her outfits at those recent things were references to Barbie!
That “ghost” Barbie hanging out with the other discontinue dolls is credited as “Proust Barbie” which was made up for the film. Will Ferrell makes a reference to her earlier in the film.
Can't believe the amount of detail that was put into this movie! Your research into all these details and dolls adds so much to the movie experience. THANK YOU! Looks like Earing Magic Ken has a different necklace in Barbieland than he did in the Real World. LOL!
It actually looks like the necklace that movie Earing Magic Ken is wearing is one of the "human sized" clip on earrings you receive in the box with the doll
I think the Weird Barbie is "Romantic Bride Barbie" from 1992. All the Barbies referenced in the Weird Barbie flash back date from between 1992 and 1994. She has bangs, platinum blonde hair, white earrings and nude pink lips. I can't find any others Barbie with these characteristics in the same period. In the film, it’s also mentioned that she was the most beautiful Barbie. A bride is considered to be the most beautiful. So. This is my theory. Thank you for this video! I'm a Barbie collector and I love following you. P.s. : Sorry for my English. I speak French and I use Google translator. 😅
Correction: I also bought the movie. I replayed the flashback in slow motion and it is the totally hair Barbie. She doesn't have any white earrings. It was an illusion of your screen print. She has holes in her ears because her earrings were torn off. At the beginning of the flashback, we see the little girl cutting her hair. And we can clearly see that it's the hair of the totally hair Barbie. The mystery is solved. 😁
That one Barbie in the discontinued doll scene is actually Proust Barbie, which does not actually exist. Will Ferrell's character metions Proust Barbie in the movie and how it apparently sold badly.
During the dance/ disco scene, one of the dancers is wearing an outfit very similar to Fashion Queen Barbie. You can briefly see her behind wheelchair Barbie and when Midge is dancing. I would like to know who those dolls (the actual dolls) belonged to in the movie or if they were just dolls Mattel had lying around.
I know the comments are saying that the ghostly Barbie is the Proust Barbie that doesn’t actually exist, but that doesn’t mean she’s not referencing any Barbie fashions. The construction of the outfit is strikingly similar to The Heart Family “Mom and Baby” release - sharing the same square sailor collar and dropped waist.
Wow! What a lot of work you did! I agree with most of your matches. I don't think the fuzzy Barbie in the background is the slumber party one, but maybe the second doll you showed us with the gauze-y rose pattern. I'm 70 and have grown up with a lot of these dolls so it was nice going down Memory Lane with you. I haven't seen the movie yet. I have a chronic illness which makes it a very poor choice to go to the cinema, so I have been waiting for it to come online. But the price is prohibitive! Thanks for all your hard work. I greatly enjoyed this video.
You caught just about everything, verry thorough. You did miss something in the big disco dance. one of the barbies dancing in the background looks like she's in the gold and white striped. "fashion queen" swimsuit.
My grandma kept her daughters Barbie’s and I would play with them when I visited. She had western stompin Ken! I’ve seen a few other outfits that bring me back!
My mom said she had a Peaches 'N Cream Barbie doll when she was a kid. I just realized that the flooring in the Dreamhouse at 7:22 has the iconic stylized letter "B"s all over it. It's interesting that in 2002, they had the "Mermaid Fantasy" Barbie dolls when "Barbie: Mermaidia" was released four years later. Almost like a precursor to the Mermaidia dolls. 16:56 Now that makes me wonder how many of the outfits that Ken wore during his fashion show for Barbie in "Toy Story 3" were based on outfits worn by actual Ken dolls.....? This is not necessarily a doll outfit reference, but a real-life Barbie reference in this movie is the fact that all the employees at Mattel are guys, and in real life, in the 1950s when Ruth Handler presented her idea of a grown-woman fashion doll, all the other people working at Mattel were men, and they initially disapproved of her doll idea.
I think all the Ken fashion show outfits in Toy Story 3 are based on real Ken outfits. I don't know the details, but I remember hearing someone mention it in an interview.
Peaches and Cream & Crystal Barbie are CORE memories for me! I was so happy to see them in the movie. I got a holiday Barbie every year from 1994 till my grandma passed in 2012. I now get SO MUCH joy in letting my nieces come raid my holiday Barbie stash on Christmas!
8:47 I wonder, does Weird Barbie have baby Krissy? Does she have all of Barbie's other siblings? Chelsea, Kelly, Stacie, Tutti and Todd? Maybe their saving them for a sequel.

It's nurse Barbie from the mid 20th century. (My mother, a nurse, had a nurse's uniform almost exactly like it.) Ken had a COORDINATING doctor's outfit. Both wore scrubs much, much later.

Joey. Thanks for all of your research. I saw it twice in theaters but scenes went so fast I knew I was missing a lot. I loved seeing the comparisons with some iconic dolls. Great video. Thank you.❤
Hi Joey! Love your video!!! There's another Barbie reference. Look for the Barbie 1999 Summer collection Summer in Rome. She Is wearing a blue skirt with white dots like Margot Robbie in the movie.
fun fact: Allan is actually Midge's baby daddy. Which was part of the controversy because "Where's her ring?" So Barbie got ordained to marry them. Which it's weird that it's never brought up in the movie.
Midge and Alan were married. There was a set of dolls that included Midge and Alan in wedding attire, along with Barbie and Ken, as the maid of honor and best man and Todd and Stacie (then known as Kelly) as the ring bearer and flower girl.
i was SO hurt by the fact tht they made such a beautiful and accurate totally teen talk barbie costume just to give her absolutely no important role or even screentime :( she and midge got done incredibly dirty
I wonder if they were going to give her more of a role but Mattel decided it was an inch too far? Like dropping Ruth's embezzlement was ok and poking fun at the male CEO was ok but spotlighting that they had a blatantly sexist controversy was too dissonant with the film's message? I love teen talk Barbie though regardless, so I was disappointed too!

Ahoyhoy There, Fellow RUclipsrino! The Fairytopia Barbie commercial where they say "Glee" and then make a giggle similar to the giggling girl on Spongebob Gary takes a Bath always creeped me out.
I feel like the Barbie movie dolls are some of the ONLY dolls that look like ACTUAL traditional barbie dolls with removable fashions, long nice brushable hair and nice quality dolls! Then when you go to a local store and you see the way the Barbie dolls REALLY look like and....... 😐
I WISH when i has a child to have so much variety as today, ALL my barbies have blond or black long hair. They could better the quality, but the long blond hair barbie will always exist and variety its only help.
You did an amazing job with this video! I think that Barbie's Sunsailer from the 1970s is out in the ocean. It looks like the one that I had growing up more than the one from the 80s.

The ghost looking doll in the background is Proust Barbie. The actress who portrays her is listed as Proust Barbie in the credits of the film.

There is no real life Proust Barbie, it's supposedly an inside joke :)

Ahoyhoy There, Fellow RUclipsrino! The Fairytopia Barbie commercial where they say "Glee" and then make a giggle similar to the giggling girl on Spongebob Gary takes a Bath always creeped me out.
Ngl that “bye barbie!” at the end was everything, wish you did that for more videos
This was a treat for my innerchild going through all this barbie nostalgia ❤
I’m so glad!
@@BeautyInsideABox 23:50 YOU USED A BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE VIDEO GIRL BARBIE PICTURE WITH BOX!!! THANK YOU JOEY!
I feel like the Barbie movie dolls are some of the ONLY dolls that look like ACTUAL traditional barbie dolls with removable fashions, long nice brushable hair and nice quality dolls! Then when you go to a local store and you see the way the Barbie dolls REALLY look like and....... 😐
Only that the fabric looks cheap and the faces are pretty ugly
I WISH when i has a child to have so much variety as today, ALL my barbies have blond or black long hair. They could better the quality, but the long blond hair barbie will always exist and variety its only help.
Hi Joey happy fall 🍁
1985 astronaut barbie is the barbie I remember getting for my 5th birthday. Always a fave. So glad she made the movie.
I agree with you in reference
You did so much work on this video!! Very impressive!!
I think Greta had mentioned that the Pegasus statues on the beach are meant to be a reference to Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus.
You did an amazing job with this video! I think that Barbie's Sunsailer from the 1970s is out in the ocean. It looks like the one that I had growing up more than the one from the 80s.
I also noticed that Weird Barbie has red pieces she is wearing when Gloria is playing with her. They look like the boots and wristlets from Western Stampin' Tara Lynn.
1984 Sea Lovin yachting Barbie or 1997 carnival cruise barbie perhaps inspired her sailor looking outfit?
