for me, queen ariana was your standard barbie movie villain with a decent amount of depth and threat. the real standout and what made her more interesting for me was her daughter, princess luciana. it would have been easy and trope-ish to make her into a snobby, spoiled princess who goes along with her mother's plan because she's also in love with the prince. but they decided to make her into a sweet, lovely girl who only wishes to experience falling in love. while the love in her head is certainly very idealistic snd you could argue that when her mother shut it down it was just a more realistic arguement, still hearing that your own mother never loved your father is heartbreaking. this contrast between her and her mother makes the two more nuanced as we see this abusive relationship unfold. and i think without princess luciana being the way that she is, queen ariana wouldnt have been so memorable for me.

What I like about the Mouse King is that he was voiced by the iconic Tim Curry. Rothbart can be pretty scary. My sister would go and hide whenever he would appear onscreen. Raquel and Lydia were the two villains that annoyed me the most. Raquel for stealing Barbie's bracelet and Lydia for having Slider kidnapping Liana. Like, Raquel should've been suspended and put in jail for stealing a bracelet and I would've punched Lydia in the face for being a menace.

The Princess and the Pauper is just the best Barbie movie. It has the most beautiful and heartwarming songs, interesting plot which (thanks to Preminger and his plan) makes you really engaged in what's next, amazing iconic dresses (especially the Anneliese's one), the CUTEST couples that you genuinely ship AND the best villain ever. Preminger is just a whole package, he is really really evil, manipulative and will do everything to make his plan work, he can sing, he has an unique look and is just an interesting character

Plus, her slowly poisoning the father was just painful. I still feel anxious just thinking about her.

I think for me it will have to be Laverna from Fairytopia, since she was the first barbie villain I saw, and even though I have watched almost all of the barbie movies, there is just something about her that was terrifying. I remember being a little scared of her and not liking her at all and thought she was pure evil as a child, and now I still think that she was one of the best/worst barbie villains for the reasons Caitlin explained. Yet there were other villains in this list that made sense and some villains were really evil and scary. This is also because the Fairytopia movies were my favorite when I was little especially Magic of the Rainbow so they are really nostalgic to me.
Side Note: Not too long ago I was watching a not too old video of Caitlin's (I swear this was like two days ago) and I thought to myself that what if she does a ranking barbie movie villains, and now she did! I just laughed and was like no way! LOL

Queen Ariana's backstory confused me when I learned what 'the devil's tango' was cus she either did IT with the old king and luckily got a daughter. But because the line is 'when I found out king Richard had a son, I had a daughter right away' I wondered how she knew her child was going to be a daughter or she could of kidnapped a child from the orphanage or even a rich couples child.

Yeah, that line definitely makes it sound like she got pregnant _after_ her husband died. Maybe she went off and had a one-night stand and just passed the resulting pregnancy off as being from her late husband? But that still doesn't explain how she knew it would be a girl (or how she "made sure" she would get pregnant at all).

If we're gonna talk about Wenlock, let's talk about Wenlock. Watched Pegasus yesterday, perfect timing.
So he does have heterochromia, but *HE GIVES IT TO HIMSELF!!*
When he transforms at the end of the movie back into a regular guy, he has two brown eyes. Dude was like "I'm ugly, give me height and muscle and all the things I could possibly want in my appearance," then looks at himself in the mirror, decides he's still ugly so says "give me blue eyes." Not satisfied so goes "give me yellow instead." Man is _still_ not satisfied, so says "give me both."
    Damn. Talk about being insecure.
Also, the his backstory starts with him stealing the staff of a powerful sorcerer. Why then, at the end of the movie, does the all powerful staff turn into an oar? Like... Annika undoes all his spells, but the staff was the one who did the spells(not its fault, just doin what it's told) and therefore should still remain the staff because a spell was not put upon it... I mean unless he used the staff to make his own magic staff... but then he would have had to keep the original staff to make sure no one else took it...
    Idk. Seems flawed to me.
Okay. I've edited this like... 10 times now. I think I've said all that I needed to say. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

    • @elsie8757
      @elsie8757 2 месяца назад +1

Maybe whatever the wand of light did to him at the end wasn't _just_ undo all his spells, but also specifically make him powerless, so he can't hurt anyone anymore? And so that resulted in his scepter being turned into a wooden oar? Because like. If it stayed a magic scepter, there would be nothing stopping him from just redoing everything.

I think that most of the excellence around all of these villains is the voice acting. Everyone is just eating up every single second of screen time they get. My number 2 is Rowenna from Twelve dancing princesses; she has an evil monkey, can manipulate the king AND killed him, she uses the power of the golden flower well, is super severe. This lady is smart and cruel. Her grey dress is ugly but her personality is great! My number 3 is Queen Ariana from Island Princess; she married a rich king then kill him to take his money plus she manipulates her daughter AND tried to kill Prince Antonio by poisoning the wedding cake. Also her rats can hide anywhere and are agile, it's hard to see them doing an evil trick.

From what I remember, Rowena actually steals and sells some of the late Queen's silver items (I think it was a cup) to buy the poison she uses on the King. She pretty much succeeded at killing him (I don't think Genevieve or Lacy realized he was dead when they brought the water that ends up "curing" him) and she becomes Queen. From the beginning, she is determined to alienate the princesses from their father and drive a wedge in their relationship. I think she convinces the King in his weak, sickly state to view the princesses as "burdens to him" and that's why they leave. Also, the way she calls the King "dear cousin" is truly disturbing cause you can totally sense her scheming. She is so devious and truly an iconic villain!

I'm pretty sure the way that Dame Devin murdered Blair's mom was that she caused there to be a car crash and only infant Blair survived. And Rowena's henchman's name is Desmond. I wasn't really that scared of Wenlock when I was little (granted, I only saw "Magic of Pegasus" a few times), but Wenlock grossed my mom out. I didn't understand why he grossed her out but now that I have a full understanding of his motives with forcing first Brietta, then Annika into marriage is kinda gross.
