IDK if it counts, but... Ken in Life in the Dreamhouse is a masterpiece. He doesn't have the badboy thing, but he is so confident and caring, and smart, and a little goofy, I won't lie, I think it's kinda cute hihi. I just can't help myself

Probably the thing I love most about Julian is that even though he's in love with Anneliese, he is trying to encourage her about her upcoming marriage by sharing King Dominick's good qualities with her. Self sacrificial.
Eric/Nutcracker still has my heart to this day because I’m so fond of the ballet and the general Nutcracker story. I also like that he and Clara have a whole adventure together to fall in love with instead of a love at first sight deal.

the writers for Barbie really showed us what good men are coz Julian and Dominic are top tier…they respect boundaries, allow the girls their freedom but will still help save them if they need it (even if they have already saved themselves 😂) the way Dominic let Erika go travel the world but still gave her the ring, showing he loves her but he doesn’t want to stop her from doing what she loves 🥹

Dominik has to be my personal favorite. He falls for Erika for who she is, even if he doesn't immediately know it's her. He clearly has a great heart and wants the best for his kingdom and the girl he falls for.

I honestly hard disagree with her point on this. Prince Antonio is honestly such a pure hearted angel who falls in love with the women who shares the same passion for the outdoors and adventures. He doesn't care if she's royalty or into typically womanly things. He's 100% a feminist who supports women with their own goals and hobbies and I think that's an important message to teach young girls. He's in my top 5

Then at the end, the animals had a central part walking up the aisle (something that only close relatives usually do) and went on the boat with them at the end. Compare that to Louis (the musketeer Prince) who laughed at barbie’s dreams… seriously, Antonio is good.

Barbie's Rapunzel had the most satisfying sounds in the film, especially when gothel was disguised as Rapunzel and was leading the prince through the maze. That "click clack" sound is so pleasing to me. (Also, I'm a simp for prince Eric. He's a genuine gentleman!)

I feel like I've seen a tendency in kids movies to lean away from romance as a major focus in the last decade or so.
in a way that's the best thing that's happened in the new kid's movies/shows, little girls and boys can grow up and learn independence and not everything has to be a love story. boys can be just friends with girls and vice versa.

We teach little girls to admire Barbie but like maybe we should teach little boys to admire Ken too? julian and dominick are #1 for me, just because they're consistently amazing, but I love aiden's humour, storyline and character development. aiden does remind me of derek a bit!! same character but different storylines. love them all for different reasons!

My boy Antonio deserved better, he has chemistry with ro from the very beginning but let’s also not forget that they get to know each other while going to Antonio’s kingdom, that could be minimum three months that even though is offscreen when they get to the kingdom it’s believable why he would abdicate for ro, also that’s a huge thing, give op the power in favour of his sisters proves how much in love with her he truly is but that’s not all he is also willing to do anything for her, he protects her, defends her and when she doesn’t show up at their meeting he lets her go, showing that he truly loves her. Also he’s respectful and becomes great friends with Luciana, that sums points in my book.
And at the end, at the wedding scene, he cuts off his ponytail, signifying that he is going to let go of his rebellious nature and be the king his country and family need him to be.
okay, Ken from A Fashion Fairytale needed to be higher, this man literally traveled across the world for Barbie even though things kept going so wrong for him, that was true love and determination

As an addition, his reaction to his GF suddenly blocking him and her friends acting really rude to him for no apparent reason wasn't some variation on "what's wrong with you?" It was to ask them if she was okay, figure out what was wrong, and then immediately decide to talk to her in person and clear up the misunderstanding. This is a man who understands the importance of communication in a relationship.
I love Aidan’s character because his relationship with Annika is the closest we’ve come to seeing an enemies to lovers storyline in a Barbie film which is honestly all I want

Honestly I can see why Barbie movies don't use that trope. Why would we further confuse young minds about what love really means. My parents believed in the same thing once upon a time, that love can stem from hate. NO, NO IT DOES NOT! Thank you Mattel for not using this trope. We are happy with what we haven been given so far, if there was anything to take away from this, it is that ken could use some sass and a bit of back story. 😄lol

i will never not be hyped when someone properly appreciates Julian, i usually see most of people underrate him and i honestly never get it, he's awesome and his friendship with Ericka, although not having much screentime, is so cute. He's such a green flag for me and has always been my favorite

actually, every main character sans the older task force, rem, near and mello has been in at least one barbie movie. including light. the first ever prince (eric) was played by mikami and matsuda is the prince in princess charm school, in which misa plays barbie's friend. i believe takada is also in that movie.
Julian & L’s voice actor even did voice Toa Vakama from the 2nd & 3rd Bionicle movies.
I love how Barbie, and most animated movies in the early 2000s, had bloopers. They where my favorite parts of the movies, especally in the Princess Peggases. 10/10 did not spell words correctly.

I know he's not technically a Ken, but Hilarian from "Barbie and the pink shoes" is top tier. He is a hunter that provides for the whole village, bases his love for Genevieve on all their shared moments growing up, wants to work hard for her and admires her. He's also lighthearted and funny and turns his enemy into his friend

But you know props because he did help her escape from the dungeon and then waiting for however long it was for her to return to him so they can marry each other and also have a joint wedding with Anneliese and Julian! Nutcracker was the first barbie movie I ever watched! I played it constantly as a child on the VHS set. I adored Prince Eric, and thought he was so noble for never giving up in his quest to save his people from the rat king. A true prince, a good hero, and a kind man. Nutcracker will always hold a special place in my heart ❤️

The reason why Prince Nicolas is so good in Princess Charm School is because we don’t see him all that much. There’s little opportunity to ruin his character.
As well as not developping him and making him likable. If he's just a pretty nice guy with no flaws| defautls, that's not interresting :S I think he's a bit boring! He showed up, dance with Barbie and does nothing to stop the villain; Barbie and her friends did with the fairies, not him. This guy was not very proactive!

Honestly, I have to love how Aidan is his own person. He has his own story and cheeky personality. My man doesn't fall in love the moment he sees Barbie (like many others haha) and he doesn't act to please her either. It doesn't mean he's rude or unkind, he just is who he is. It's a plus too how he keeps questioning the things they're doing, including the magic and not just blindly walking behind Annika. Ah, not to mention how the sole reason he went with them was, nah not for the girl, but for the money he could return to his father!🥺

Fun fact: at the time of the first few Barbie movies, Ken and Barbie were actually broken up. So the male leads in the earlier movies are actually NOT Ken but Blaine which is why the first few are actually brunettes and not blonde.

King Dominic all the way. He can sing, didn't think twice about the barking cat and was more worried than mad when he found out about Erika. He also seems to have no superiority complex over his status as a king and is cool with dressing like a commoner. But the most important thing is he let the girl go with a "I'll take my chances" and waited for her to come back to him!!! SWOON. Love him! Forever my #1. Although they did him dirty with his wedding suit like why didn't they keep the original red color??
I think the blue suit thing was bc that's Erica's color. Maybe they did that to make it noticeable that he's marrying her since there's another couple but i gotta agree with u about him. I mean every time I saw the movie back when i was a child i would fall for him and i still do! I didn’t realize or remember he waited for her even taking the risk he would never see her again or she'd meet another guy, that's definitely a green flag everyone should value.

I'm glad Derek got ranked so high on this list. Of the Barbie movies that I've watched, The Twelve Dancing Princesses is my favorite, and Derek is a big reason why. I like that he's a romantic interest that isn't a prince, that he had a good heart, and that he went out of his way to find Genevieve and help her save the kingdom. No, his looks have nothing to do with my judgement, since I don't really find any of these characters attractive in that sense.

The man even gave up his HORSE just to get back her mother's goblet and walked all the back to the palace all for Genevieve because she asked and worried.
Matter of fact, he even ventures into the magical realm that he's never been to in hopes that the princesses were there BASED on what Genevieve told him in the garden! She never directly told him about this magical place they danced every night she only hinted it. So he figured out the gateway because he remembered her story and was smart enough to connect the dots with her dance and shoe polish! I love Derek and he was such a caring guy who listened to Genevieve.

i agree i like all the guy love intrests in the movies but i enjoy derek because of how good he is at music when hes playing and all the princesses are dancing
My top 4 are definitely Dominik, Aiden, Derek and Julian! Dominik waits for Erika and doesn’t rush their relationship and has it move in a natural way! Also made me believe in love and that man or woman can wait for you if they love you!
Aiden and Annika’s banter and he doesn’t quickly fall in love with her immediately makes me believe in love and that this banter is what you’d expect from someone you get along with or love.
Derek just over all in movie helps Genevieve through throughout the movie and he builds is career/job from scratch and works for the royal family is a quality on his own!
Julian is amazing in general, remembering the details, true always has a plan and helps rally and train Erika, and later Dominik to save and fight at the wedding and everything.
You can definitely see Ken 2.0 in the continuity animated series Barbie: Dreamhouse Adventure which they pretty much flush out the characters in the 5 Seasons arc. Like you stated he is Barbie's next door neighbor that been friends with her ever since they were 5 or 6 years old. He truly have a crush on her but want to find the right time to tell her.
As a Diamond Castle Fan, I'm shocked Jeremy and Ian managed to place above Kevin. 💀

They have more personality and dynamics than newer ones (I'm not saying all) where barbie has always got to be the most perfect girl in town who always needs to win regardless of the talent or whatnot and everyone is literally and blantly painted off as characters below her.

Imo the older characters in the movies had also more complex personality and not black and white. They’ve had own stories and reasons to be certain way. I kinda don’t see this in new movies.
I feel the exact same way. Older barbie movies just were made of a higher quality in my honest humble opinion. They literally used rotor scoping in 2 of the ballet movies. Loved it so much. The Nutcracker, Rapunzel, Swan Lake, Twelve Dancing Princess, even Fairytopia, and the Princess and the Pauper are my favorite Barbie movies ever! They are just, mwah chef's kisses perfecto!☺️💖🌸💮🌺

I remember watching the movie while being 4 still thinking Jullian is really doing anything for the princess. But even tho he seemed like the most husband material, I've always had a soft spot for Dominic. I realize now, because he RESPECTS what his lover needs or wants, never act like he is her priority and actually WAITS other than forcing, treating, leaving her or getting married to someone else. you cannot find a person like this nowadays. nobody waits anyone nor respect their priorities.

So, I don't think I've had crushes on kens from the movies, as much as shipped him with barbie. That being said, I have one exception, and that's the ken not from the movies. "Barbie in a dream house" Ken is hands down, THE BEST KEN. Like, he's such a wonder bread of awesome and cute. His father-son relationship arch with closet is a 10/10 beauty. Ken's tennis machine for Chelsey's birthday. He's just Tony stark without the need for a redemption arch, cause he's just that wholesome awesome. And yeah 10/10!

I mean Aiden did get the most screen time out of all the guys so makes sense that they were able to give him good character development.
YES! Aidan and Julien are hands down the 2 best male leads in the Barbie universe. Their characters are written so well, they’re very likable, and have more to them than being Barbie’s love interest, and they have sooo much chemistry with Barbie’s characters.
With Aidan, not only does his personality clash with Annika’s in the BEST way possible, but he has his flaws (which he actually acknowledges) and backstory as well. He doesn’t just get with the princess in the end and enjoys his new life that he’s created with Annika, while forgetting his family. He owns up to his mistake and eventually goes back to his home/family to try and make up for the damage he caused in the past. He’s witty and resourceful which adds another layer of depth to his character. And yes, bonus points because the guy is an amazing skater.
And although we don’t really get a direct explanation of Julien’s story, we get to see so many tidbits that show us how he came to be where he was. His family was poor, so he had to work really hard to get anywhere in life. He was most likely really smart and was scouted to become a tutor for the royal family. Eventually he became best friends with the princess and fell in love with her in the process, even when he knows it’ll never lead to anything more, so he eventually distances himself from her as they grow up.

Honestly, I came here for King Dominick. I love simply everything about him, and there’s not one thing I would specify. He is such a gentleman and very charming with a loving heart. I really love the fact that the writers didn't make it a big deal to have Dominic wait for Erica to go live out her dreams, and especially with that kind of era. As a little girl with big dreams as well, that made me extremely happy for the both of them.

My formative years, I really only watched Nutcracker. Then I found the others more as a preteen, so I've had more of a thing for Eric than the others. It was his character, the humor, heroics, and love story that is the reason I love the ballet and everything Tsyiokostki made. (I know. I can't spell his name).
It also helps to have Tim Curry as the voice of the villain. It makes our hero seem far more epic 😅

It's just that Julian is smart and pays so much attention to Annalise, he realizes she never uses lilac on her stationary so the note must be fake. All the more reason to love this man tbh. Something I always wondered though was how they didn't recognize the difference in handwriting?? 😂 but he recognized the perfume??
King Dominik, Julian, and Prince Eric are my absolute favorite Barbie guys. I love how sweet, kind, brave, thoughtful and handsome these guys are. I would not only befriend all three, I think if I met them in real life I would most likely end up dating and marrying one of these three. I’m so disappointed Ken was vilified in the new movie. In the Barbie movies, he’s actually respected and given an equally important role next to Barbie
I don’t see him as villified. He spent his whole life chasing after Barbie in Barbieland, and he was, at least in his eyes, failing. He went to the real world as Barbie’s sidekick, and he found books that talk about all the power men have in the real world. I think he saw it as a way to get Barbie to be more impressed by him, but ended up with a lot of power and taking everything too far. Everything Ken did in that movie regarding the patriarchy stemmed from his own insecurity about his role in Barbieland. He took things too far, but did end up mending things with the other Ken’s and he started on his own journey to figure himself out. I don’t see him as a villain, just a desperate guy who was in love with someone who didn’t love him back and didn’t totally understand what he was bringing back to Barbieland. Also, his role was super important in Barbie. If he hadn’t of brought back the patriarchy, Barbie never would have realized who she is and what she wants, and the Kens would still be unacknowledged in Barbieland. I’m assuming that after Barbie left for the real world, the Barbie’s and Ken’s back in Barbieland slowly made their way to an equal society, which is a satisfactory ending to the journey. Ken also didn’t know his place in Barbieland, so he likely assumed that the jump from living in the shadows to total domination was normal.

I really like Prince Louis to be honest! We love a science boy, and he did learn by the end of the movie that girls absolutely have a place with the musketeers, and I always found him endearing, so he’s near the top of my list!

Rewatching this, I realized she forgot one Ken, and that's Prince Daniel from the Swan Lake movie. I remember him being funny and charismatic and a bit helpful to Odile (Barbie), and how he saved and almost sacrificed himself for her from the villain. Sad he didn't make it to the rankings.

it’s crazy to me that prince louis from barbie and the three musketeers (who i think is s3xist anyway and didn’t really redeem himself much) is ranked higher than prince antonio from barbie as the island princess (who i personally really like), but i’d say the list is pretty solid nonetheless.
i completely agree that aiden definitely belongs at number one, though i would’ve ranked derek and prince eric higher than julian and not just because julian doesn’t really do much for me lol. derek and prince erik would for sure be in my top 3

Prince Louis was slightly cute but I didn't like he was so against women being able to fight.
Prince Daniel was a good boy as he tried protecting the girl but also almost shot her so he is kind of low.
Prince Nalu was one of my favorites as he is a good looking dude but wish he was shown more.
Prince Stefan was slightly alright but like couldn't he have questioned where she came from but still he was okay.
Prince Carlos accent was nice to hear.
Princess & the Pauper will always be a favorite but the villain scared me.
