i do love to complain about barbie's modern wardrobe, thank you
Oof we'd be at it for a whole week.
@@maomaomi5434 more like a month
Oof. Barbie has made some choices hunty. That’s all I can say.
Right! Some of Barbie’s wardrobe, in particular, them damn Extra dolls be looking tacky af 😤🙄
hey , if it helps theres some pretty good ones in the mix now !
Not gonna lie, my 2000s nostalgia softened me towards a lot of these dolls. Because I did think Gabriella was the height of fashion back then, and I still have a soft spot for empire waists and inexplicable hoods.
A lot of these dolls are very “of their time,” especially the ones released in the early-mid 2000s. I remember when some of these outfits were trendy.
I bought that Barbie BMR specifically to get the doll, but I’ve been surprised how much I actually use the outfit pieces. Granted, it has been with clown aesthetic outfits on dolls, but they were great for mix and matching with other pieces for making a birds of prey inspired outfit for my Harley Quinn doll.
The fashion fever doll is actually the trend during that year. You can check the fashion trends that year and the doll is on point
That last Barbie looked pregnant in that polka dot mess! The clothes available today are terrible. I avoid the fashionistas but I love the Looks line! I also really like the 1997 Barbie Millicent Roberts collection. I wish they would do more things like those and less of the clowny clothes
I thought that too
I agree sports and formal attire do not go well together
We wore it constantly. It was all very sporty & posh spice mixed together!
That Ken is dressed like a cast member of Jersey Shore 😂 “it’s t-shirt tiiiimmeee”
Lol that first doll the Teresa fashionista is one of the dolls I have bought recently.... You'd be shocked at how much she sells for... It's crazy!
That's so true. I had the first two Sporty's in the line but the later ones are a pain to get because they're so expensive.😏
I actually really liked her lol!
Yes I’ve seen her for $70 on eBay NIB
Is she the one that looks like an updated Red Ridinghood at 12:00 ? I love her!
Edit: I checked, she's $99 on Ebay right now.
Luv'em or hate'em, at least they showcased the fashion of the times the doll was created. Not like now. 😮💨 I do like some of the BMR dolls, but they are 90s inspired. People did dress like that at that time (not everyone of course). Cross Colours fashion - very 90s.
Maybe people who lived under the bridge. I never saw someone walking like a clown
@@franfinesim Cross Colours was showcased most recently at the 60th Grammys by Bruno Mars & Cardi B which was a throwback to the 90s.
@@azj_01 cardi b is not a person to be looked up to. I love the nineties and there were some cool outfits, but this is is just a fail
Carlyle Nuera was the wrong person to design that line, because the concept is good.
and when you ask why it's always written "Sporty" it's just because it's the doll's name 😂, the firsts fashionistas had like names : Glam, Cutie, Sweetie, Sassy, Sporty and Artsy
Yesss
they could've just give each doll an aesthetic like come on Mattel
Honestly, the formal sports and the fashion fevers look like something a Disney Channel Star of the 2000's would wear... like, I think Ashley Tisdale wore similar things
Exactly!
Barbie's quality isn't the same as it was, not to mention painted on tops
I imagine Ruth Handler is rolling in her grave & would never have allowed her creation out of the factory in such poor quality. The first Barbie & Ken commercial promises "a complete wardrobe of perfectly tailored clothes at unmatched quality" the clothes in the 1st commercial even have zippers.
The old dolls were about fashion and dressing them up and now it's mostly about some gimmick like glowing and making music. What's worse is that they could easily make dolls with these gimmicks and no painted tops like they used to, for example my Erica from Princess and the Pauper has a button in the back and little holes so you can hear the music and has only face paint and a detailed dress.
@@obnoxious_alien You're right they could totally do both. My favorite, Teen Talk Barbie talked & came with a jacket, shirt, shorts, skirt, leggings, socks, shoes, a hat & earrings. Older clothes were gimmicky too. I had a Shani doll whose skirt turned into a jacket & drawstring bag that held her accessories.
I agree with all of these except the Fashion Fever one! That was ICONIC! It’s literally giving Ashley Tisdale, Lindsay Lohan and all of the other Y2K messy fashions that we love to hate! 😅💓💖
The fashion fever years are my favorite and they’re very popular with collectors 😅the clothes were so well-made and reflect accurately the fashions of the times
Video idea: list your top 10 Barbie fails currently. I think the list could include the main quality issues or cost cutting measures taken like-painted on tops or swimsuits, pony tail hair plugs/unbrushable plastic hair, no joints, flat shoes, minimal real clothing fashions, tacky purses and accessories, pets as accessories. I would love to see your full list!
I have the Wild Style Barbie! Fun fact- her leggings are actually a jumpsuit underneath the skirt, shirt, and leather jacket. She looks soo much cuter in just that or paired with the jacket. the boots are also just sleeves at the top so they can become regular black pumps!
It’s so funny that in the 90s Barbie was always so over the top, but it still looked nice, coherent and cool
Barbie’s fashion peak was fashion avenue
fashion avenue was what got my money as a early barbie collector chic fun and fabulous
When you said "The sunglasses say girlboss" that is the most depressed I have ever heard you sound
The only ones I like are the United Colors of Benetton doll with the poncho, the Sporty fashionista with the pink hood, and (maybe) the Sporty fashionista with the headband. Those are cute.
The other choices are understandable, yikes 😬
They did United Colors of Bennton Barbies in the 90s.
Literally all the Fashion Fever ones were good😭 they never missed a single time! Not everybody has a fashion sense I guess though...
@@bratzscene3131 the whole of the BMR1959 has pretty ugly fashion which sucks because the actual dolls are interesting and different. Cool that they did a male doll who wears makeup.
I absolutely love watching you rip dolls to shreds, like it’s truly one of my favorite forms of comedy. But I do have to say I for one really love the BMR dolls and of course the one you called horrific about 8 times is actually my favorite of them all. Yes, she looks kinda clownish but that’s the point! It’s colorful, it’s fun, and it’s exactly the kind of vaguely childish, androgynous outfit I want for myself. But hey, to each their own
I agree
i don't necessarily hate all of these, i am generally fairly neutral on 3/4 pants/sleeves so ones like the Benetton Barbie weren't so bad to me (though i agree that the "poncho" just does not go with camo pants like??)
That said.... some of these were absolutely horrendous. The bmr one.... i have no words. the long tags are the least of my problems with that outfit, and they are still a BIG problem!
I'd love to see your fav fashion list though! you should do more of these most/leas favourite lists!
I looooove the third doll. Looks like something Brenda Song would have worn in Get A Clue. I love fashion fever dolls in general. They are my childhood 😩💜 Fashion was funky. The face, the clothes, the shoes, precious!
The united colors of benetton is really cute tbh😍 and th me face 🤌
I know it takes an enormous amount of time to do a video like this, so I wanted you to know that all of your hard work is greatly appreciated. My daughter & I truly love your videos & always look forward to them. BTW, love your shirt & nail polish! Much love. 💜 💅
4:10 it’s camp. she looks incredible actually give it like 5 years and everyone on tiktok will start to look like this. I would make the fur trim leopard print too just to keep it a bit more cohesive and up the camp.
6:15 i love when people say a look is ugly cause it was “maybe fashionable a decade ago” as if the girlies will not collectively lose their clits over looks like this a decade from now. I actually really like the outfit. I would maybe turn the tags into like a really long skinny scarf instead or maybe suspenders to keep it as a design element cause i do feel like it elevates the look
8:30 give it 3 years. 3 years and tiktok girls will dress like this. I think the outfit is kind of fine, not entirely my taste but the top piece does remind me of bloom’s enchantix dress. Would maybe work better with an updo.
9:58 this doll rules actually i love her. Lots of fun colors and love the weird t-shirt sweater dress thing going on. I kind of envision it with dutch braids just to make it extra campy? I like
10:30 ok but like mens fashion hasn’t been good since the roman empire fell i think i would kill if i saw a man dress like this
11:15 i love yoouuuuuuuuu shes fun also why is clown an insult?? What did clowns do to you :(
12:20 ummm where did she get that top i want one???? I too wish to dress for the gym like i’m going to a runway
THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who thought these clothes were horrid! Mattel should bring back Fashion Avenue ASAP with sizes for the curvy dolls.
the first doll looks half maiden half swimmer lol
I thought I was the only one who thought the bmr1959 barbie looked like a clown lol
Oh god, I forgot that ponchos were fashionable back then. I had a dusty pink coloured one as a tween 😂
I'm living for this!! Can you please do a run down of all the designer/Barbie collab. I would love to hear what you feel about the Vera Wang, Versace, and Bob Mackie Collabs! Pleading please 🙏 please?
That’s a really good idea! I’ll add it to my video list
@@BeautyInsideABox what do you think of the barbie zara collab
Ooooh yes!
My niece is playing with my 90s Barbies and she went what kind of clothes are these
😁
She said that about the 90s Barbies’ clothes?????
Without the tags, I'd say that BMR outfit gives strong non-binary vibes. Idk how to explain it
The Sporty fashionista in the hoodie, I wanted her so bad but she was hard to find. I like this outfit, it's cute to me.
8:37 😅😂As a high school/college girl, I adored an empire waist (they were perfect for hiding a bit of a tummy). I'm 100% positive that I still have a similar top (almost the same colors, same cut, same silky fabric, but no ruffle) It was my absolute favorite top. I never liked that length of pants though. I probably wore it with Daisy Dukes or white pedal pushers. (My mom's fashion language.) I can't remember the 'proper' fashion lingo, lol. The poncho in the previous slide was actually perfect for spring/fall weather.
Does anyone know what the name of the Black Barbie with the pink hair or where to find her? It's so hard for me to find Black Barbies with natural hair in pastel colors.
4:10 Barbie has very big Cheetah Girls vibes. I kind of dig it 😆
A lot of the outfits were popular trends during the years of their release, which shows the questionable styles the media made popular
I would like to add to this list the barbie extra with the rainbow dress and blue shear jacket.
5:01 it’s funny you mentioned that because I remember actually having a super cropped zip-up hoodie back in the mid 2000s 😅
The BMR 1959 Barbie look is beautiful it doesn't deserve to be in that list thank you very much
Fashion Fever was an amazing time for Barbie. Their fashions really reflected what was on trend during those times and the attention to detail was so much better than fashion avenue. Back then I didn’t collect Barbies, but the fashion fevers were so awesome that I bought a few of them anyways to decorate my office lmao so you can shit on her outfit all you want, the fashion fever Barbies will always be completely on point and fashion forward for their time. Hunty.
The Barbie extra one, why do they keep pairing purple and green together ? It’s ugly !
The BMR one is just hurting my eyes.
I have a few of the BMR dolls and I absolutely agree that the outfits are horrifying! I hated those dolls at first but I got some for fairly inexpensive to redress them and the dolls themselves are great! I have the blond BMR you showed and I straightened her hair a little and put a different outfit on her and she is stunning. The dolls (and the ugly clothes) are excellent quality.
This video was so great. Your expressions were hilarious and you made me laugh so much! Thank you for another excellent video!
Honestly IMO,
Most of these were 2005-2008 trends. It’s just Barbie line threw them all together on these dolls with no imagination or fashion sense.
The clogs were popular and comfortable, the empire line fashion tank tops with cargo pants 👖 were a trend but mostly with solid colors. The polka dot on polka dot has to be a fashion crime somewhere. The poncho with the military fake print thing was a trend. I used to like the items separately never together.
The only one that I liked was the last sports look with the one with the braids. That athleisure trend still continues in purses and logo tank tops.
But they were dead wrong 😑 for that combination on the guy doll. Was that the Blake doll?
Fun fact the fashionista with all the sporty that’s actually her name from the line. Literally, it wasn’t based on the outfit.
Ok someone has to say it: the BMR line has some of the clowniest and fugliest clothes ever. Srsly. Who on earth thought they were a good idea?!
I wore the poncho and camo pants outfit in the 2000's
Thank you for your channel and videos! I've been going through some rough times and I find your channel somehow comforting and your voice really soothing. You've really helped me to get my mind off from all the misery.
Well being a fashion icon is taking risks 🙌🤣
7:29 is something very realistic for the era for Barbie’s target demo of the time, very limited too Delia’s. Like all of the pieces are things I wore then lol. 3/4 pants are coming back! I also feel like 11:00 shirt is very accurate of the time too, faux Ed hardy.
I think my least favourite outfit Barbie has ever worn was from the movie where they're trying to get Chelsea to her dance competition. She wore something like a white shirt with a pink picture, a pink denim vest, a yellow skirt with black spots and black leggings. I hated it. There was also that outfit she wore before the Diamond Castle where she's wearing striped leggings with a spotted skirt.
3:34 I feel like this COULD HAVE worked if the colors had been more cohesive, and the patterns were toned down a bit. The concept is great: it encourages creative play, by showing kids that things can be used multiple ways (i.e. that lime green tulle skirt being a mermaid skirt extension, a top overlay, and a skirt in its own right). It's too bad, really.
As an eBay reseller I JUST sold the Fashion Fever Lavender Lace up boots, tiny jacket and the handbag within minutes of the listing going live. I underpriced it. I was completely baffled by it and was shocked at how quickly it sold.
I still have that Ken doll, and he's still wearing that outfit, but I did throw the hat out. I didn't like the hat then, still don't like it now.
I actually appreciate that these dolls can look like a child gone rogue inside a wardrobe or like someone got dressed in the dark. Barbies don’t always have to be that widely recognized fashion icon. It’s fine if they’re dressed weird or exaggeratedly because it would be SO DULL if they all wore common casual outfits. I don’t want a doll that looks like me on an ordinary uni day, and I doubt many would be entertained for long, especially the children. But it’s also fine when they look a mess because they’re sending the youth the message that it’s alright to look out of place, it’s okay to do mismatched clothes because Barbie does it. It’s okay to not be a full on color, fabric, pattern and style -coordinated case.
Personally, I’m seeing all the current shows and movies where teens are dressed to the nines for their supposed everyday lives and it’s making me, an ADULT, feel insecure! I can’t imagine what pressures young girls (mostly) must be going through when everything they’re surrounded by is the picture of perfection. WE NEED FLAWS. Outfit faux-pas? Healthy.
Why should we compare to plastic toys??? Who cares!
@@franfinesim Wherever you do it or not everyone's experience and reaction is individual. You don't have the right to undermine those you cannot relate to. And there is also the possibility of you being influenced by things you see without realizing.
@@stellar783 If I were watching and analyzing everything that is around me, I would have gone crazy a long time ago. People should stop putting their nose, where it is not their business
@@franfinesim I'm not sure we speak the same language. I am telling you that people ARE in fact affected by what they observe in their surroundings whether it's voluntary or not. This is FACTUAL information. That means they aren't making an effort to. They're just seeing it. This isn't an arguable thing, it's been PROVEN. So I'm not sure why you're arguing.
They had to clear a r that pink ponytail doll
omg bmr 1959 was really hard to love, i think its camp in that its a very obvious attempt at corporate attempting to design street wear and giving us public television after school special 90s " urban " youth
The BMR dolls are amazing.
Is "BMR" an acronym for "Barbara Millicent Roberts"?
I love the BMR line but the dolls I do own from it (so far, planning to get more) all got new outfits from me and their clothes went into a mix and match pile. not the biggest fan of the logo either but on the black & white hoodie from the ginger doll it looks quite decent.
As for the fashionista with the skirt and hooded top, I find her outfit cute but for almost all of the other dolls I agree. Some outfits could be decent if mixed with other clothes but some are straight up horrible
Nooo u cannot criticize Fashion Fever.... at all....Heretic! boo!! I think they tried to be Benetton with the BMR59 line imo. The 8:02 pants are really well made with pockets... and the shawl isn't meant to keep her warm. It's just some cover from the sun.
am i the only who's in love with the barbie fashionistas line during 2000s-2010
These looks are of the normal people's Y2K (I'm talking camo short, petit coat, polka dot, empire waistline, graphic tees...) not the supermodel's Y2K. To be fair, I loved these look when I was I kid, because that's the only things people were wearing at that time & idk any better 😅.
More videos like this one, please.
I don't agree with you on quite a few of these, but I really appreciated the list!
The seventies were the worst era of barbie fashions, IMO. Our grandmas weren't just sewing doll clothes for the heck of it. All the fashion packs of that era were just terrible cheap fabric Mattel must have gotten at discount; lots of bog floral mumus in awful colors.
Yes favorite looks
The second doll outfits is 🤢🤮
The Ken at 10:30 was my first and only Ken doll until I got the BMR Ken with glasses and the blonde Looks Ken in December for my 1:6 collection 😅 I liked that Ken back then
OMG! I have this last Barbie 12:25 I LOVE HER! I find her so cute. I remember when I saw her I fell in love. She was one of the few Barbies that survived my childhood ahahah and she's practically new on my shelf (she just doesn't have the bows on her shoes and head). But she's so pretty
I would 100% wear some of these outfits for sure! The sweater dress, the hooded sleeveless top and ruffle skirt combo and that short sleeved jacket outfit! lol Though I wish those leopard sleeves were either part of the jacket or the shirt was short sleeves. Seems weird to wear a long sleeved shirt with a short sleeved jacket. But then again, here I am seriously wanting to wear those outfits! lol
i love the fashion forward one, she's so y2k core. it's horrible fashion, but in a very y2k way that is cingey in a nostalgic way
The doll at 9.53 is very accurately interpreted in this list fashion wise, but for some reason this is my first time seeing her and she herself as a doll is so gorgeous and her being partially made to move is another plus. I’d love to find her and give her a restyle, or even you’d probably do an even better job. Wow she’s gorgeous though. Do you know her specific face mold by chance?
Lol, I have the one with the leopard sleeves & skirt trimmed in fluff.
i actually liked that outfit, minus the sleeves and the fluff xD Not sure why anyone thought those would go with the rest of the outfit!
the newer dolls just seem like they're randomly ai generated 💀💀💀
The only Extra doll that looks good without having to do a makeover is the one released this year with that pink dress with the train. Such a great dress Mattel should redo the dress in different colors.
Some of these dolls are so quintessentially of the time they came out that I kind of love them. They accurately show the terrible clothes we really wore back then lol
A fun video to watch! The BMR doll you showed is pretty, but I agree with you about the outfit. “Why???” 😆 Also, the newer Barbie Extra doll with that weird assortment of outfit pieces is not easy to look at. As for the others, I think they are tolerable. You have to wonder who designs such odd, unattractive clothes.
YOURE TOO DAMN FUNNY
5:04 that outfit looks like it could be on the show shake it up
Biggest fashion crimes in Disney channel history and that's saying something.
Your face when you said "the sunglasses say 'girl boss'" is perfect meme material
The BMR with the tags is my favourite from the line. The tags totally make the look
Tbh the fashion fever doll reminded me of when berbie had the genarations girl face mold and great articulation and anazing looking illustrations
4th doll 1959 yikes
Clown 🤡 scary I agree bad
I had two Fashion fever that thing was like around the early 2000s actually
Fashionistas outfit crimes are yikes garish
I'm pretty sure the empire waist comes from the large amount of regency/late rococo films released at the time
Nice collection of fashion crimes..😂
Ken no
Cud someone calll fashion police?
The modern Barbie clothes are trash. I disagree on the Fashionistas Sporty because I like her.
The Benetton outfit looks like a nightmare from my middle school years. Ponchos were a BIG, big thing!!!
Couldn’t agree more with this fashion monstrosities❤😂
Also I would love to see more Fashion crime videos
I agree
I'm sorry but two of those were a serve lmao
i just disagree about the sporty doll on 12:11, she was like one of my favorites when i was a child i loved the hoodie thing!
Love your videos! The BMR line sucked as far as fashions, I don't think I liked any of them really. There were 2 or 3 dolls that were cute aside from their outfits, but the one doll you showed today was not on my list of cute dolls! Clownish is the word... The whole BMR tag/logo was overdone, it was on EVERYTHING and it didn't DO anything to add style to the outfit. I'm not into bows and ruffles either. Maybe that appeals more to kids. I saw someone ask you to do a BEST outfits video, and I totally agree! Not just fancy, full-length outfits, but really good fashions on regular dolls. Please? 🥺
Believe me, kids don't like trash. I remember as a kid cringing at dolls that looked cheap and clownish
At 1:06 Sporty is the doll’s name for in that Fashionistas doll line all dolls have a name unlike fashionistas nowadays they don’t have a name
11:08 is so meme-able 😂
