I like that when Barbie gets stressed in the astronaut programme, she then switches to working in McDonalds. Go Barbie

Specifically, the 80’s/90’s/early 2000’s dolls & their themes seemed much more elaborate & imaginative. I feel like there was more attention to detail back then, but that would be my personal opinion.

1963 Career Girl was also known as Executive Girl. She was created to celebrate Congress passing the first Equal Pay Act.

The channel Sam and Mickey made a video making fun of all of the careers Barbie had with the plot that she was making a Career Day presentation for Chelsea/Kelly’s class and it is taking hours and she still isn’t done yet when the teacher interrupts her which enrages Barbie.

I absolutel loved my incredibly vague Working Woman Barbie. At 8 yrs old, I thought she was the pinnacle of sophistication in her grey and red suit. She had a button on her back you could press and she'd say things like "I love going to work!" And "Saving money is smart!" Which at the time was very impressive to me. I really thought I would be her when I grew up, lmao

The reason Midge being pregnant was so controversial is because she didn’t have a wedding ring I believe.

I think what they mean by "baby doctor" is a pediatrician, "Artic Doctor" is probably a veterinarian for polar bears and penguins. Always wanted to see an archeologist Barbie. Recently they made her as Jane Goodall.

There was a NASA Barbie from 1998 that I was obsessed with as a child. Her accessories were mostly cheap printed cardboard (space food packets, notebook paper, etc) but I loved it.

I think the reason she was so sports targeted in 97ish is they had just introduced the more posable body in recent years and wanted to take advantage of it

“She did a lot of SeaWorld stuff back then… when they were trying to repair their image… anyway she doesn’t work there anymore.” LOL Not me getting an ad for SeaWorld right after you said that 🤣

There were so many military dolls because around this time, Top gun came out and mattel were amazed from the appearance of the protagonists, so they created dolls which relate the movie. If you look carefully, the face of Ken in this period was a copy paste of young Tom Cruise

I agree with you that Barbie had just about every career that a kid could imagine. When I was a kid back in the dark ages, my Barbie was a nurse and/or a resistance fighter saving G.I.Joe's bacon. (My dad's influence in watching all of the WWII tv shows.) As an adult collector, I buy everything astronaut related and I have that 80s pink astronaut in the three racial types offered and all of her extra fashion packs. I thought they were campy and fun. I have Barbie and all of her Rockers friends too. The military themes in 1991 were a response to Desert Sheild/Desert Storm in Kuwait. I remember the 1989 hoopla because Barbie was the pilot and Ken was the flight attendant. Then the African American Barbie pilot was dancing with the white Ken in Paris and it made the news in the US. Barbie as a train conductor was fun because she had a train playset that was pink of course. I know that I write too much but I just got a nostalgia attack watching this one.
