Thanks for watching! Please let me know what you think of the dolls in the comments!
Barbie is just going more and more downhill in quality and effort it’s very heartbreaking to see. The older dolls were so much more beautiful and more detailed
definitely true. I hate current production
@**Spirit(Holly)** My favorite Barbie is the millennium era (called as GG) fashion fever 2004 & 2007/08, fashionistas 2009 -2011, and all dolls from barbie movie 2001-2009, the rest is suck.
I love GG so much because they are always pastel in color (sometimes bright & bold), sweet smile and beautiful face mould and come with a lot of outfits, shoes & accessories in 1 box. I miss them so much.
Fashion fever & fashionistas is the best for fashion stuff. From this one, i can see mattel produce an outfit & accessories separately, but the quality is still awesome.
I really miss all barbie movie dolls. The magic is gone thru the years. Moulded dress, cringe wonky eyes and face sculpture, cheap made and too much pink (no more magical soft pastel colors 😢)
أصبح البلاستك قاسي للغايه 😔
@@uwi1u322yes!!
in some ways theyve gotten better but in others they got worse, like we have made-to-move barbies and more inclusive barbies but yea, alot of the lines have gotten cheaper quality
I remember my aunt saw someone throw out a mermaid fantasy barbie. She was in bad shape, but my aunt took her and made her look beautiful again! She gave her a cute top and added some purple in her hair. She gave it to my sister and we still have her. She is One of my favourite barbie dolls because of that story
Personalized Barbies are the best of all!
Oh wow! That's a really sweet story! :)
Awww that's so awesome!! You guys have a great aunt & I'm sure she's so happy that you love it❤️
which mermaid was it?
@@felmonli9092 It was Barbie
The reason for Barbie's fantasy dolls kicking off in the 90's is the Disney renaissance. The Little Mermaid came out in 89 and Beauty and the Beast in 91 and suddenly, mermaids and princesses were everywhere.
Yes, exactly. Disney made the princess genre EXTREMELY popular on the doll market. especially The Little Mermaid, so they are the reason girls are obsessed with mermaids and princesses. Mattel: Disney released this movie called "The Little Mermaid" Let's do something like this with Barbie.
Mattel execs:😮😮😮😮😮
There's something about Barbie being a mermaid that fits so well. The length of the doll ,the body frame and hair length and texture...They work well in water and even the way they can transform like Ariel into a walking person as part of the play. It's prob my favorite fantasy mode for her.
I had the mermaid fantasy doll when I was really little. I played with it in the bath all the time. I remember loving the fact that I could press the button to make her tail move as if she was really swimming! Best tail design and mechanic by far throughout all the barbies. Glad to see in the comments that this was such a well loved doll too! what up to all my early 2000s kids
I utterly ruined my mermaid fantasy doll because of how much I played with her, the rubber on her poor tail just cracked and peeled away, rip barbie
Does anyone else watch these just so they can finally learn the proper name of their favorite Barbie? Lol.
Edit: Your Bubble Mermaid Barbie is in such better condition than mine, although in my defense I've had her since I was a little kid and she enjoyed many a bath time play.
I watch it because I like seeing all the Barbies I don't even know existed ❤️
Yess. Ive finally learned my childhood barbie haha. It was a mermaid fantasy green tail barbie and a mermaidia blue one. Sad that i threw or donated them 😂
Mermaid Fantasy Kayla was my favorite barbie as a child. I played with her so much in the bath that the silicone ripped and became mouldy.
She was also the barbie i learned how to braid hair on.
Omg same 😭 The silicone split at the part where she would sit and at the base of her tail. Kayla and Christie were my favorites
Same thing happened with my pink fairytopia mermaid. I remember the first tail ripped and my mom replaced it only for the second one to rip too.😅
I had the Kayla doll too, as a kid I bit everything though and I ended up biting her rubbery tail and her crown had tooth marks on it. I feel so bad for her now that I’m looking back lol.
Only icons have owned ripped silicone Kayla’s. 😭 RIP 🙏🏻
From what you have shown, I think the first mermaids were the best. It seems like the quality and hair were much prettier than the ones that have come over the years. Of course, the collector one looks stunning :)
I loved the silicone tailed dolls, I got them from an aunt and I displayed one on a shelf and played with the other!I eventually sold them and all of my other dolls to pay for school.
I had mermaid babysitter Skipper. Such a genius toy idea. And Disney had an Ariel doll with a similar concept, so my mermaid babysitting adventures were epic!
I had 2 of them.. got them both at my birthday from a friend and my parents
You are the only one youtuber who really puts in another meaning and show the real value of the playline dolls of barbie of the olden days which are sadly better than even the collectible lines of Barbie which sell nowadays.Love all your videos!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoy my videos
I love these playlists. You should do fairy dolls or Barbie carriages next.
I had none of these growing up but my friend had mermaid fantasy and Mermaidia dolls. I had Mermaid Fun Kelly and plenty of Ariel dolls growing up though.
I actually have the mermaid doll with the bendable green tail and long red hair. She's my favorite out of the bunch.
god u are sooo lucky ive wanted that doll forever, easily my favorite mermaid barbie
What year was it?
@@sharen219 The Mermaid Fantasy Barbie is the one i have. Not sure what year it was made though.
i looove the mermaid fantasy dolls. they're probably my all time favorite. i had the barbie one as a kid and she was my favorite, i played with her so much to the point that she was completely broken. like, hair chopped off by my children's hands, the rubber on the tail drying up and crumbling off (i suspect that happened bc i took her in the bath with me so much ?), and also the mechanism broke and the lower half of her tail literally fell off lol. but i cherish this doll and i gave her a reroot, repaired the tail mechanism and made a new cloth cover for her tail :)
and as an adult collector i also purchased the kayla and christie dolls because i was always yearning for them as a child haha.
I think you should try and take all the batteries out of your older dolls if they aren't working, they can leak and get gross and I'd hate for your lovely collection to get ruined!
I had mermaid fantasy, adored her and her tail, used to flip it in people's faces haha 😂❤️ great video
Ugh, I hate leaking batteries! The first time I saw a battery that had leaked, I was like 6 or so and after that I was terrified of batteries for years… 😅 I don’t know why I was so freaked out, maybe because it looked so gross or because my parents told me that leaking batteries can be dangerous/poisonous. I even had nightmares of batteries… 😬
I feel like the hair on the newer dolls don't have as much volume and length as the older ones but at least it's shiny
I don’t remember which doll it was , but from the early 2000s, I remember I had this barbie doll with long pink hair and a rubbery bendable pink blue tail. I loved playing with that doll in the bath lol.
I had (and still have) Mermaidia Elina! I love her so much, I actually dressed up as her for halloween as a kid too :) I know Dreamtopia is generally cheap, but as a kid I know I would have begged my mom for several of them (at least for mermaids) I hope mattel releases a higher quality version of dreamtopia cause they could be wildly gorgeous with some fabrics and some of the features of the older mermaid barbies
I think it makes sense mermaid Barbie was release in the early 90’s. It’s all thanks to Ariel and the little mermaid, previous to that Mermaid movies or median wasn’t that popular or aimed to kids, so I think Ariel proved that fantasy role play was dices full and kids would consume mermaid dolls.
Jewel hair and Fairtytopia 2003 mermaid Barbie dolls were always my favorite mermaid Barbies, they are stunning
I remember having a bootleg mermaid Barbie as a kid with a removeable tail. Soon, I'll be buying this really cute pastel merman Ken doll. I hope you eventually do Barbie's horses. I remember having Nibbles and I loved her to bits.
I used to have the purple fairytopia mermaid aswell! It's funny that you said their tails were more sturdy, cause we had to return mine like twice cause her tail either came broken, or broke while unboxing her. I have no idea where she went, but her booklet and crown are still floating around my room
Barbie mermaid iconic 💕💕 the bendable tails
They started making mermaids in the 90s because of the 1989 release of the Little Mermaid. The company was very good at figuing our what little girls were into at any given time.
Also, the bubble crown barbie was the first color change tail.
And why they did? Because the film's dolls were made by... none other than their rival Tyco. Also TLM and BatB were already on home video and i think Aladdin was in production when Mermaid Fantasy Barbie hit toy shelves in 1992
“Sometimes their hands just fall off”
🥰
i don’t know why you didn’t mention the enchantress mermaid barbie and the ocean king ken
Yes, I missed them there +2022 basic budget mermaids with natural haircolors - blonde Millie, AA Asha and brunette Tori.
You can watch through time as Mattel got cheaper material with the dolls, I’m a Barbie collector of any Barbie ( I prefer 80’s 90’s in any condition) I redo them and give my girls life again.
I had the 2002 mermaid fantasy Barbie, my aunt got it for me from the UK. Some really happy memories playing with the doll.♥️
I had the pink Jewel Hair Mermaid Teresa as a kid! So many memories... I absolutely adored this doll, after the years her hair got so tangled they look like dreadlocks now... I still have her somewhere in the attic...
When I was younger I had the Barbie Dreamtopia bubble mermaid doll she was the one with yellow hair and I love her
I had the Bubbling Mermaid Barbie. I think it was my first Barbie. I loved her 🥰
I had her too but I got her for Easter in 97 in Kindergarten. I loved squishing her body where her legs would normally be. I also loved her tail. I don't think I played with her in water to change her beautiful body colors. Back then, Barbies had beautiful face sculptures, beautiful makeup and jewelry. I miss that in today's Barbies.
There is very little information in the video about collectible Barbie mermaid dolls. Among these dolls there were very interesting releases. For example, Enchanted Mermaid Barbie (2001). I think this is one of the most beautiful Barbie dolls of all time🧜🏻♀️
I used to own the 2012/Barbie: mermaid tail 2 doll with the Black streaked pink hair and blue tail. She was one of my favourite dolls, despite being a slightly more rebooted doll; I would bring her everywhere.
i had mermaid fantasy barbie as a kid! she was my favorite because of her amazing articulation!
Hills is a long gone discount store from the 90's. i had the jewel haired mermaid one as a kid and loved it they came with pumps too to match the colors of their fins
I loved the Magical Mermaid and Krissy dolls with the shell! I lost the doll before I lost the shell she sat in.... my favorite mermaid is the next set, particularly the pink haired rubber tailed girl- given to me by a girl in the neighborhood.
Jewel hair mermaid barbie is a core memory for me. I remember being amazed by the hair and tail 😍 Mermaid fantasy was amazing! I played in the bath with her everytime! I want to go back to those days 😭
Why did Barbie wait until 1991 to produce mermaid dolls? Because of the popularity of The Little Mermaid 1989
Thank you for all of your honest feedback . You helped me with buying Good quality Barbie dolls for my daughter's many times .
Omg when you held up those jewel Barbie mermaids I suddenly remembered Barbie had a ring hole in her hand and you could swap out the rings!!! 🤣 I had completely forgotten! Awh I love these compilation videos, I know they must be so much work but they're incredible!
I had the pink hair, green/teal tail mermaid fantasy doll that had joints in the tail, I found that out when I pulled the skin off the tail. I loved that doll, it probably got ruined because I took it in the chlorine pool. (You saying they’re rare kills me. I still have her, but she wasn’t built strong enough I guess.)
I had the 2000's magical mermaid with the glowing seashell and to this day, I still believe she's the most beautiful barbie to have ever existed, her face and makeup were pure perfection in my opinion! she was my most cherished and well-taken cared of barbie and I'd spend quite some time just admiring how pretty she was!
OMG, I remember having a mermaid Barbie back in the 90s, but she wasn't on your list. but then I remembered, I *didn't* have a mermaid Barbie! I had a fashion pack, it was a mermaid tail and top and little accessories, oh man, I destroyed that thing with all the bath time adventures we had. I've remembered so many lost memories watching your channel, thank you n_n
The mermaid Barbies are so magical, graceful, enchanting and whimsical. Jewel 💎 Hair Mermaid Barbie (1995) has the LONGEST and silkiest flowing thick hair. I also remember Mermaid Fantasy Barbie (2002) has Long and thick flowing hair that is so fun to play underwater, such a graceful movement of her hair moves like Ariel has
I wish they still make a mermaid Barbie but fantasy like and not rainbow unicorn
I remember that some of the mermaids that came out with fairytopia or mermaidia were 'colour change' dolls. Their tails, face and hair would change colour with ice water. I remember this very vividly because it was the first time I had ever seen colour change dolls and I thought it was really cool.
I really love Fountain Mermaid Barbie. Her outfit has a “I Dream of Jeannie” vibe!
As a kid, i had a set with all 3 mermaid fantasy dolls and I also bought the mermaid fantasy coral reef swing (utterly useless but nice decor to set a location). They were awesome. My Christie had pigtails if I remember correctly. I picked 3 dolls who were visually similar to be their human versions for stories with transformations. They usually went to the human world by accident, to escape a murder attempt, or on a spy mission 😂 Or one would be evil. Christie was always good, because her human stand-in doll was my favorite Barbie 😂
I’m gonna be honest, Dreamtopia meant so little to me I didn’t even know it’s been going on this long
I forgot all about the Barbie and Krissy mermaid doll set! I loved that shell bed! Thanks for unlocking that memory.
When I was a kid I had the 2011 mermaid dolls at the top. But I only had the pink one and the green one.
My sister and I had the Mermaid Fantasy Barbies! I had Barbie and she had Kayla. We played with them CONSTANTLY.
I think one of my favourite Barbie mermaid doll is actually the Dreamtopia rainbow light doll. I think she is really pretty and I loved playing with her as a kid.
I had the Mermaidia Barbie. My siblings broke off her wings so she would look human and I cried so hard.
I had at least 1 Mermaid Fantasy Barbie
2 or more Mermaid Fantasy Kayla
And then I had Magical Mermaid Kayla. I think I had two. Everytime their tails would break or wear down id make my mom buy more. Definitely my favorite dolls of all time. I really want to own one of each from each set now.
Great vid Joey!
Omg the bubbling mermaid and mermaid fantasy ones were so beautiful! Especially with the moving tail!😍it really makes me wonder how the quality went down that badly? Further more, MGA could really take some notes for their mermaze mermaids dolls. They're beautiful, but those stiff plastic tails are a bit of a turn off.
fairytopia magical mermaid >>>>>>> best mermaid doll ever. i still remember playing with the barbie and kayla ones in the bathtub all the time. they are the perfect mermaid dolls, and so nostalgic!!
I had the pink Fairytopia mermaid and the Elina doll! Elina was one of my absolute favorites as a kid...I think her Mermadia face sculp was the most beautiful!
Omg i forgot about the bubble mermaid... I had her i cant believe I forgot her
... Wow that memory just brought me so much joy
Core memory unlocked with the fairytopia mermaid dolls
I come here to unlock hidden childhood memories. My sister and I had the Mermaid Skipper and Sea Twins doll! I only really remember the weird babies with their one strand of hair and the crinkly orange outfit. If I still had her, I would definitely send her to you! I would have loved the Barbie and Krissy mermaids as a kid. That face sculpt style is so nostalgic to me, and Krissy was hands down the best and cutest baby Mattel ever included in the Barbie line. I wish they would bring her back!
I had these too! They were always so random, but I have a lot of memories playing with them the weird mermaid baby outfits.
I think I must had one of the 90s ones, the fabric tail just seems so familiar. As a ginger lover of Ariel and mermaids I can imagine little me loving all of these.
Present day mermaid barbie should be discarded in my opinion! Is IT THAT HARD to make a beautiful doll ?! Anyway Joey, I loooove your videos they're amazing ❤
Mermaid Fantasy was peak. I had 2 of them, the pink/green and orange/blue ones and omg the tails were so cool, I was obsessed with how realistic they were being silicone and scaley and flippy and aaaaa yes yes yes
6:53 mermaid fantasy is my all time favorite! 🧜🏻♀️
Omg I had the 1991 Barbie and I even remember the ad from TV. She was definitely my most beautiful Barbie and made all the other Barbie's look sad in comparison lol.
You missed Enchanted Mermaid Barbie from 2001. She is GORGEOUS.
Her tail is bulky and stumpy though unfortunately
@@gabrielleoana1092 Yeah I think she was more of a display than play doll :)
I love the color change rainbow barbie...changes from darker rainbow colors to lighter rainbow colors in hair and tale. The pearl accents and crown, so pretty. My daughters favorite. I also like the sparkle Mermaid. It lights up and tons of articulation in tail. Love how it bends when you push side buttons. The blonde with pink highlighted hair. Light blue crown. I also like the Mermaid Power Barbies especially barbie with the blue hair... I have almost all of these for my daughter. Yep love them. Wish I was a kid again.
The 2003 mermaid fairytopia gen and then 2005 ver was my everything lol and I was obsessed with her transforming element
My favorite mermaids would be Magical Mermaid dolls.
I had the 2008 Barbie mermaid for my eighth birthday! I had to throw her out (I didn’t have to. Could have fixed her but I was naive aha) because the material on her tail was super fragile and eventually completely split. I absolutely loved her :(
I'm so in agreement with you on the Jewel hair mermaid Barbie and friends!
They are the ultimate BEST Barbie style mermaid dolls! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Loved this review!
I think Barbie became a mermaid right after the PHENOMENAL success of the Disney movie "The little mermaid".
I LOVE mermaid Barbies. I have the pink Fountain Mermaid, the Skipper with the twins, and all four of the Jewel Hair Mermaids, the Mermaid Fantasy Kayla.💓🧜🏻♀️
Mermaid fantasy!! I had the pink one and my sister the orange one. Such cute dolls oh my gosh, I think they were some of our most played with Barbies !!!
I had pink mermaid Barbie, really loved her details on tail and yellow 🧜♀️🐠
I had the Barbie mermaid fantasy as a child I played with her so much her rubber wore thin
I used to have the basic purple one from 2011! She was my favorite for the longest and I took her in the pool with me.
I remember having all three of the fantasy mermaids they were my favriotes by far i hope barbie one day goes back to the rubber tails it was genius with that articulation on the tails
I always enjoy your lists and had no idea there were so many play line mermaid Barbies. Although you mentioned the 2012 Mermaid Fantasy, there are two other collector-level mermaids: 2001 Enchanted Mermaid and 2019 Mermaid Enchantress. All the collectible ones are very expensive now, but so gorgeous.
I have the Christie Mermaid Fantasy barbie. She was my absolute favorite mermaid doll to play with as a kid.
My older sister had Skipper and twins mermaids and jewel hair Barbie mermaid, which were passed onto me. Then I was lucky enough to get the mermaid fantasy Barbie when it came out 😍😍😍 now I have collected almost all of the recent color reveal Barbie and chelsea mermaids, which I have rebodied because I just love their hair. I wish Barbie would bring back the quality of the mermaid fantasy dolls 💔
I had the pink 2002 Barbie one and the 2003 Kayla Fairytopia one. I had forgotten I had the 2003 one until I saw it here. Thank you for reminding me of it, maybe I'll be able to get one again someday!
I’m so glad my last Barbie doll was the Lumina one as I can only remember them as fun and of good quality
I had the Pink Mermaid Fantasy Barbie and I was OBSESED. She was like a dream 💖🧜🏻♀️🌊
Mermaidia is by far my favorite line.
Talk about a blast from the past! I had jewel hair mermaid Barbie and midge when I was little! Looked them up online to get my daughter one and the prices are insane, makes me wish I still had mine…..
I had the black jeweled hair Barbie and I always remember those damn stars getting tangled in her hair but I still loved her. I also had the Magical mermaid doll set and I loved it so much because the shell light up as well if I can remember. The early 90s dolls were just so amazing
I always liked the Mermaid dolls but when i was child i couldnt even have Barbie :) My cousin had one of these which tail was skirt style. Mermaid Barbies all plastic tailed in these days and i dislike it. I've bought Merman Ken from color reveal serie and i love him a lot. Thanks for the video. It was so fun.
pls make more of these "every Barbie..." videos I love them!!
I grew up with a what I thought was a barbie mermaid doll. It was purple and everything was made from a hard plastic but a tuff of blonde hair that came out her head to give her a ponytail. I think the tail moved (I don't remember). But you could take it off and she have these hard plastic legs that where stuck together and she had a towel around her waist that was just part of her mold. It was really nicely made so I could of sworn she was a barbie but I can't find anything about her online. I would of had her somewhere between 2004-2007.
We have the mermaid fantasy doll. She's cute. I wish more had the rubber tail. We have the newer barbir mermaid set with the baby and chesea. My 2 year old loves her. I love this video. It was great to see them all. Thank you.
I had the first one. Was not one of my favourites, but comparing to mermaid nowadays I really like her. She's full of shinning elements.
That purple 2008 one with the moving tail in the very beginning of the video was one of my favorite Barbie's! And if I remember correctly my only mermaid
I had every mermaid Barbie before 2000 except that purple one. I even had that rare skipper, i never knew she was rare! They were so fun to play with 🥲. We already took them in the bath, might as well make Barbie’s that would exist in water!
my aunt used to have lots of this different vintage barbies, and i now only realize some of them were like really good ones. sadly they were used by all the cousins and literally lost forever. the ferrari barbie car, the jewel hair mermaid etc really sad that only know i see the value
I loooove the jewelry on the old Barbies
Bubbling mermaid barbie was my very first barbie and I found a picture of me on Christmas morning holding her with such a happy face 😭💕
The 90’s to the 2010’s were the best Barbie mermaid dolls in my opinion.
I was a 2000’s kid so I had dolls from probably 2006-2012 and I just got back my first Barbie mermaid doll at 24
I got the fairy-to-mermaid Elina
You've missed a few. There was a pink haired/pink bodied AA Barbie, a purple haired Latina mermaid Barbie, a rainbow blonde Barbie that is rare now, and a coral haired mermaid.
you should totally do a cardboard box display of your favorite dolls you could take a cardboard box and display your favorite Barbie dolls in them you could make it an underwater scene with your mermaid dolls or something else you prefer you know just an idea by the way great video 😁
I loved the mermaida set I had barbie, the purple mermaid and the blue one and a play set. I remember I used to set the lounge room up as if it was mermaida
