As Raquelle in Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse said: "I sensed tension and came as fast as I could~!"
Omg I remember snorting with laughter the first time I heard that 🤣 😂 💀 😭
Came here with the same thought!
Hahaha love that moment!!
YES!!!
If I must quote one person
Yes, totally agree - Barbie gets a little competitive when it comes to new doll lines, and she isn't afraid to show it! Like, the new Barbie extra dolls definitely gives me that OMG doll vibe. They even made a music video, right? Just like the OMG girls.
The best copies Barbie has ever made tho I think is My scene. I love the My scene girls and boys, I love fashions, the webisodes and movies.. They're just really cool!
He definitely should have mentioned this (I think he did in another video). The OMGs even had a song all about being "extra," going, "We're so extra, when they see us they jealous!" and here comes Barbie naming their new doll line- "Extra!" "When it comes to fashion, we got that extra action. Oh My wow, she so extra!" Both with a hip hop beat and colorful music videos.
Even a couple of Barbie extra dolls look like Candylicious and Sawg
@@queenmoreau2098 for the record, I enjoy the songs of LOL OMG.
I honestly preferred the MyScene body proportions over Bratz. It makes more sense for a fashion doll to have a bigger body & smaller head. As much as I respect the innovation of Bratz, i think Mattel improved the body.. 🙈
@@novepipps Bratz definitely has credit for innovating doll lines but body proportions are frustrating and the fact that they don't have feet when you take off their shoes is weird.
Disney can never let anyone have their own successes. I believe Descendants was absolutely a copy of Ever After High. EAH’s story has much more charm and detail to it! This isn’t a doll line but when Disney found out Barbie was making their own version of the sleeping beauty story into a movie, they copyrighted the use of Sleeping Beauty / Aurora. It’s a fairytale! Would it really have hurt Disney so much for there to be another version of the story they stole + changed? That would have completed Barbie’s trilogy of the Tchaikovsky ballets and Disney didn’t let it happen. I’m honestly surprised Disney hasn’t tried to do their own version of Princess and the Pauper. Not to say it has renowned success but it is so well loved.
It's not legally possible to copyright the name Sleeping Beauty or Aurora. They probably trademarked the appearance of their design, which is incredibly common and also what Mattel has done with Barbie and the other Barbie doll line dolls.
The interesting thing about the original Barbie is that there actually WERE plastic, three-dimensional, modern fashion dolls on the market before her. Madame Alexander's Cissy and Cissette, Uneeda's Dollikin, Ideal's Miss Revlon, etc. Barbie had a more "adult-looking" face mold and was smaller and cheaper than most contemporary fashion dolls, but she wasn't made in a total void. Which is why I find it fascinating that this narrative of "there were no 3-D fashion dolls when Barbie came out" persists.
As a toy developer, Ruth Handler would have known about the existing fashion dolls- did she leave them out of the story in later years to make Barbie seem more original? Certainly nowadays, way more people have heard of Barbie than her "big sisters." We'll probably never know...
Ever After High and Monster High have to be one of the most orginal ideas ever. I've not lived for a doll line since the said 2 discontinued production. I know about Rainbow High and LOL OMG but they just don't draw me in enough to spend money lol.
Well Monster High copied another thing
@@Deeviiouss yes they were based off preexisting ideas but what they made out of it was amazing.
bratzillaz were atleast unique enough but so many companies tried to copy monster high
mystixx and twilight teens being the two that i first think of
Lol I forgot about those two! There was also midnight magic, pixy punks, and spacepop.
Plus MH didn’t really have a witch doll so that gave Bratzilla a bit more of an advantage.
the irony in the Jem and The Holograms thing is that the Jem dolls were so popular that they had a platinum single in the Jem show's song, which it came with the dolls, make them the most sold doll in those years. i recomend the Fact Fiend video about it!!
It's terrible that the new "Jem" movie (if you can even call it that, never saw it) was such a terrible flop. I so would have loved a new line of Jem dolls.
@@happiestplace3754 ikr?? But with the new comeback of 80's aesthetic and music by the pop divas it would be a great time to do a proper reboot of the franchise. I just hope they would use some of their music to make the soundtrack and make it as campy and over the top as the cartoon was and don't "winx" it.
They need to release the soundtrack on CD
oh yes I've definitely felt like Descendants was a sort of response to Ever After High
It was a rip-off
Descendants is so bad. Literally a dollar tree rip off of ever after high. Always hated descendants
The myscene dolls were a rip off of bratz they both had shoes sculpted to their feet that you could remove
@@adamtownsend5675 Except that My Scene dolls didn't have removable feet, they had normal Barbie rubber legs, the shoes looked like removable feet but you could share shoes and fashions with Barbie.
me too
Moxie Teenz are actually a couple of inches taller than Liv and most other fashion dolls. I agree that all of these are copies except for the Bratz babies. When MGA gets a popular doll line they tend to do off-shoots like older or younger siblings, baby doll versions, pets, etc. They do the same thing with Lalaloopsy, LOLs, and kind of with Poopsie Slime toys/Rainbow High.
I wish that MGA will make in the future a series with little sisters for Rainbow High , just like they did for LOL and Bratz
As the saying go's: it doesn't matter who did it first, it's who did it better.
Say what want about “Myscene” but you have to admit the fashions were so cool and the material was amazing!!!!! 💚 also the hair Quality was great! Mattel has really downgraded!!!!
They were a prelude to Fashion Fever.
Fashion Fever, besides vintage aka 60's Barbie pre MOD era, were the best Mattel ever offered with clothing, style, just everything. Plus they fetch a pretty penny nowadays.
@@marstal4913 I remember being 7/6 years old when fashion fever came out!
Mattel should really bring that back! Those fashions where so cool! And the material was good! 👍🏻
I think they should have made the myscene girls kind of older than the Bratz girls
Bratz Babyz Petz and Bratz Lil Angelz also gave me littlest Pet shop vibes. Even just the style and sculpt are so similar.
those steffi love dolls were the nightmares of every european kid lmao
As they say, Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
honestly I've never been mad at Bratzillas for copying Monster High, it was just like having more MH content while waiting for new official dolls 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️❤️ I had imagination and I don't think MH fans were mad actually lmao
they were amazing
They were an answer rather than a copy, same with Novi stars...
The bratzillas song was a bop so we forgive them
@@tenleeso10 GLAM GETS WICKED TONIGHT ! 🎶🎶🎶
Plus NO DOLL LINE EVER then or now could ever be what MH was pre-reboot. Truly inspired dolls they were and will forever be.
Mattel and Barbie DID have a group of dolls with different ethnicity before Bratz appeared, which were Generation Girl, a doll line with great quality and details, and I think this was the time were Barbie and Mattel had the most quality ever...
yeah but bratz and myscene
I think the point was how barbie had ONE “main character” and the rest were just there while bratz had four main character with different races
@@black1cat21 Yeah, up until that time, that was the point with Barbie being the protagonist and other incidental and interchangable friends in the background, but Generation Girl was different because it wasn't "Barbie AND the Generation Girls", it was "Generation Girl", and Barbie was just one of many characters, each with different ethnicity, personality and had a booklet with their background story, a stand, accesories and a second outfit, plus in some editions they had their "rooms", which were sets you could put together... something very different for that period of time for Barbie, and I think they did it first than the Bratz.
@@CapitainBeefhartfanO You're absolutely correct! the Generation Girl line was STELLAR!!!!!! it had everything that was amazing about Barbie as a product plus everything that's amazing about the Rainbow High line now. easily Barbie's best line. and yes all the characters had equal weight of importance and details about them! Barbie was just one of the line up she wasn't the "star" my sister and I had all of them!!!! in fact they were the only barbie line we had in full growing up. with all the others we just picked out favorites. but with GG we didn't have a favorite we just loved all of them!!! honestly it would be extremely wise of Mattel to revive the line in all its glory!!!!
I can't believe Novi Stars weren't mentioned, they were also competing with MH, the Bratz-illaz weren't alone
Ok, I just wanted to say, Thank you so much for creating this channel, because of this channel, I was able to show my nephew that it’s ok if he likes playing with dolls, cause there are other guys who like dolls 😁 so again, thank you, and I love your channel! 😁💜
Why is it I would love to do a court case for dolls 😂 how fun would that be
Oh just a little fun fact: in Brazil there was a doll named Susi, she was produced by Estrela, and she was a version of the british Sindy. I'm not sure if she was an official licensing, but the facemold (the 60's at least) was very similar to the original Sindy until she was rebooted around late 90's
There are some rumors saying that Disney descendants killed ever after high, for my opinion ever after high is muchhhhhhhhh soo muchhhhh better than disney descendants
Ikr, the descendants dolls have kinda derpy-looking faces and goofy smiles (imo)
I was just gonna say "The Toys That Made Us" when you were on the Jem and the Hologram part..
"HELLO DOLPHINS" That's what I hear at the start of each intro lol! I want a mug with that haha
This is a great video. I love talking about rip offs, copy cats, of all kinds, not just dolls. I've seen so many documentary series and shows about Mattel and Barbie over the years, and Mattel is ruthless! They will go after anyone who tries to take a piece of Barbie's pie. They will blame everyone for copying them, then turn around and copy everyone else.
So Mattel is the doll version of Microsoft basically. Lol
MyScene were obviously created to compete with Bratz and there's similarities between the two francise as you pointed out, but of all the examples, I feel they were the most different as well. I don't agree with what you said that they are the most blatant copy. They look way different despite having common features like exagerated lips. MyScene are way taller, more proportionate, less excentric makeup and an overall more mature and glam fashion style. If anything, they look like Bratz's older sisters. The Barbie clones from the 80s look literally identical, bratzills and monster high are pretty much the same too.
Love your videos but actually the Disney descendants line was in production before Ever after the making of E.A.H was what made Disney leave Mattel ❤️
I think bratzillas isnt a copy because mattel doesnt own the goth vibe they are going for i think its just made to compete same with barbie extra, fun fact decendants and ever after high was a coincedence and when ever after high without knowing disneys decendants was already in early production
You Should Make A Part 2 Of This Joey!
You could include:Regal Academy Dolls Copying Ever After high dolls, Mystixx Dolls Copying Monster high dolls,Zombie Girls Dolls Copying Monster high dolls,And Golden Girl Copying The 80s She-Ra
Barbie was jealous just 10 yrs after she debuted - after the extreme success of small dancing Dawn dolls in 1970, Mattel immediately produced Barbie Rock Flowers 71 -74
Sindy copied Barbie waayyyy before the 90s, but not in a doll form - they copied playsets. You can literally see old magazines and notice stuff like 'Barbie penthouse 1975' - Sindy sits in almost identical one in 1981 etc
I like both Bratz & MyScene, but I think that Hollywood movie is way better than Bratz series. Btw, I prefer 12 inch size (that was my main problem with Bratz) bcuz if dolls are made in any other noticeably different height, its hard to find accurate playsets
I really thought me was gonna talk about Barbie extra 😂
Actually, the Derek and Diva head molds were new molds made for the Rockers. I'm surprised they were able to create two new molds on such a crunched timeline!
That was also what I thought! And the Diva mold was very recurring in many other dolls friends of Barbie, especially in the 90's, the character that is mostly associated with it is Midge
I always thought that the line Fright mares (from Monster High, 2015) copied My Little Pony Toys
Very interesting, but FYI, Monster High characters DID have powers and quirks: Frankie Stein had detachable limbs and electricity. Draculaura could turn into a bat. Deuce Gorgon can change people to stone, Heath Burns could burn stuff, Abbey Bominable could ice things, Cleo De Nile had Egyptian charms, etc etc etc. So No, Bratzillaz did nothing new by adding powers to their characters, I just think they are an embarassing attempt to copy Monster High. But the fact they tried to revenge ripping off Mattel and stooping to their level is the only grudge I have against MGA, cuz they overall make really good products, I just LOVE Bratz and O.M.G dolls!! :D ;)
Seriously obsessed with your videos!!!! You're so funny and charming and you know what you're talking about! I definitely always felt like, had their not been Bratz, they never would have had MyScene or even Monster High or any of the other stylized approaches that now cannibalize Barbie sales.
Thank you soooo much! Glad you enjoy my videos ❤️
Me getting a notification: Oh, Clawdeena uploaded something!
Me after clicking: Oh, that ain't her. Guess, I found someone new!
Thanks for this throwback video ! Love them ! I was born in 1982 so I do enjoy wAtching these and wish I had gotten into the bratz , my scene and monster high dolls instead of my Barbies .
9:00 sort of rip off? i find it a bit strange that one of the main character of Ever After High is the daughter of the Evil Queen. And the main character of descendants is the daughter of Maleficent, another fairytale villain.
So similar premise of a main character? check. hell, even character designs are very similar. Mal has almost the same exact color scheme as Raven. And Evies hairstyle is the same as Ravens too.
fairy tale characters going to high school? check
romantic storylines similar steering to the point of copy paste? check
let’s not forget the ending where Mal is wearing a similar caplet with ruffle collar as Raven usually has
I was a teenager through-out the 80's.
I was outrageous.
It was an outrageous time.....the 1980's.....
Shibajuku girls make me think of knock off pullips, especially when they did both large and mini versions!
did Mattel also copy the Maxie line with Jazzie.
I randomly had one of the Steffi love doll sets as a kid, that came with two babies and carriers and a little girl doll much like Kelly. I loved them lol
Actually Barbie wasn’t the first fashion doll. In the 50’s there were a number of high heeled dolls with adult figures, including Miss Revlon and Little Miss Revlon, Madame Alexander’s Cissy and Cissette, Vogue’s Jill and Jan, and many many others. They came in the range of 20-24 inches and 9 to 10 1/2 inches, and all had beautiful wardrobes. Barbie’s popularity, however, wildly eclipsed that of her rivals and inspired her own many copycats.
How did I live without your videos until today? They are so beautiful and well made! *-*
When Sindy came to Brazil, mattel made her become Susy, a very famous doll in 80's / 90's here. You should make a video about these dolls!
I had the barbie n the rockers dolls, the jem dolls and everything in between.
I miss MyScene and MH...
Myscene is the best dolls for me,also the clothes was incredible and nice quality
I really love the toys that made us documentary.
Ikr, my faves are the Barbie and MLP one. I would love a Trolls one.
It's funny that the Barbie extra was the ad that played before this particular video, considering it is apparently copying OMG. lol
5-year-old me sad to hear that Barbie and the Rockers was to just rip off Jem. I loved them both!
The irony is that Barbie and the Rockers looked far more superior than Jem dolls... Same for MyScene, they were a lot more appealing than the deformed Bratz dolls. MyScene dolls were easier to dress up and in my opinion a lot more fun to play with.
Agree that they were easier to dress and I like them more, but the Bratz were more stylish than the MyScene dolls. They are style inspirations for people and are still fashionable to this day.
@@queenmoreau2098 Not necesarily more stylish, just more casual wear and relatable to the average person. MyScene was just as fashionable, but they were more feminine and glam in style, which isn't really for every girl.
I love this guy. He is so shady and so right. Love u and I also watched the toys that made us.
Mattel has always been in competitive, l remember when the Winx club cartoon came out. And the dolls became popular. Mattel created Fairytopia. Then when Disney took over the Star Wars franchise and started catering to the female fan base. With Rey, Jin and two Princess Leia dolls. Mattel came out with another theme movie Barbie's Starlight Adventures. Also there was another toyline that had combined fairytale princesses and famous monsters, Didn't last long. 🙄
The first Winx Club dolls were made by Mattel though?
@@user-ey9uj6vp9s and they look the best imo
@@user-ey9uj6vp9s winx had diffrent companys produce them one of the more popular ones was mattel. another popular one was jax pacific (wtch came after mattel)
i think you might be thinging of once apon a zombie. they combined princess and zombies. they were actually very pretty.
@@missroyaltea4012 yep once upon a zombie. Lol
It's not actually copycatting. More like following fashion trends. We dress in what is trending, so why can't dolls? Thanks for sharing. 💖😊
Thank you for another interesting video. Can you talk about the Judith fashion doll in the future? I can't find much information about it online but I own two of those dolls and the doll house I find adorable. 💕
I had a MyScene doll growing up and I totally thought it was a Bratz doll for the longest time until I started watching doll RUclips videos and realized......!!!! :D
I always get excited when you post a new video. You must be my most favorite doll reviewer. Love your face expressions. 😄 Keep up the good work work. 👍
Whenever I see the LOL Surprise dolls, I always think they look like a weird fusion between Bratz and the Powerpuff Girls.
didn't hairdorables come out in 2018 and omg came out in 2019?
PART 2! Please 😊
I agree with your list. I only collect Vintage 1960's , but did buy some Liv dolls as they were made in Canada where I am from. Enjoy your info on Modern dolls
Omg I can’t believe Barbie copies other doll lines....
It’s Barbie they copied so many
Mga has also copied lots of other dolls :)
@@ini9558 not as much as mattel
i remember having a single Liv doll and a single Moxie doll, and trying to switch their wigs to no success...
The Jem cartoon is actually pretty good! The twists, the turns, the fashion! Sure, there’s cliches but it’s really engrossing
I've seen that first doll before and I have always thought it was Barbie....oh wow
Very cool. I was looking at the new Lol big babies def a Bratz rip.
I hate how Mattel act with doll competition its so petty and they ruin all good dolls lines.
I miss early 2000s dolls so much
I agree
. Love seeing these videos of bratz , my scene , monster and ever after high dolls and makes me wish I had purchased them back then instead of trying to get them on eBay for insane prices new in box . I’m very excited to hear they are going to be releasing the bratz dolls this and monster high next year ! Hopefully they will be as good In Quality as when they first came out with them ! Mattel really needs to get their act together in their Barbie clothing quality , bc Mga is knocking it out with their omg and rainbow high ! It will also be fun to see the competition again between the 2 doll line releases ! Lol
Truly outrageous! 😊
I'm still salty that EAH was discontinued, and since the Descendants thing might be one of the reasons, I will not watch any of the three movies or buy any of the dolls. I'll just stay on my side and hope that, one day, EAH makes a big return.
Hi I like what you talk about with the dolls circle my favourite is the one and only gorgeous bratz girls with the passion for fashion 😍
Finally someone mentions the fact that hairdorables are copying lol omg dolls 🙄
Unpopular opinion - always preferred MyScene over bratz.
They were so beautiful
Absolutely. Bratz dolls had those bizarre feet and heads.
I actually liked My Scene as well. When I first saw them in stores, I didn't even realize they were by Mattel, or they were even related to Barbie. The dolls and packaging were so different than what Mattel was doing at the time.
Yeah I liked my scene better
Me too 😍
"Fine. But change it enough so they don't realize..." 😅😂
You forgot Maxie and Mattel’s IMMEDIATE response in the name of Jazzie. This was as aggressive as the myscene thing and absolutely crushed (!) the competition within months
Maybe, Monster High and Mystixx (zombies, vampires)? But I don't remember who came first...
Bratz copied from Barbie first though they are of course elaborated versions of Barbie, Teresa & Christie etc I think Mattel did it on purpose it's quite funny actually
How did bratz copy Barbra ?
Mattel bought the rights to the german doll. ☺️🇨🇷
Bild Lili
Hello from costa rica ☺️🇨🇷
I like Steffi Love... she isn't expensive, offers better articulation and doesn't have molded on fashions.
Why does noone talk about poor Steffi? She is so value for money!
This was really interesting thank you Joey
You just can't with monster high like they're iconic tbh their aesthetic is just different.
So the Descendants line is all from the movies or animated shorts. It's side merchandise where as Ever After High is the opposite. It's a similar concept but I don't think it's the same.
I had the Jem doll, her earrings lit up❤
I had so many Steffie luv dolls
I don't exactly remember the years but I know the Cabbage Kids Doll where a Copy of another doll line hand made by Martha Nelson Thomas. I looked up Cabbage Kids where a huge hit in 80's
Tbh i stan monster high thee are literally my child hood but I always found bratzillaz better thank monster high and the bratzilla prototypes where so detailed
Random, but I miss Moxie girls and Liv dolls.
i miss liv dolls as well lol
Here in Brazil, we had our own doll that competed against Barbie, she is called Susi. She also had many lines, I had a fashionista and a skater. She was not as thin as Barbie and her material was soft, so her wrist could move without articulation. I loved her eyes, they were bigger than Barbie's, with real lashes and not painted, but two sparkling orbs. She had pouty lips and a chubby face, very baby-like. Also, she had normal flat feet, not point small feet as Barbie. Unfortunately, between 1985 and 1997, Susi stopped being produced. She came back in 2007 but very different, she now has a slimmer body. Her legs became thinner and more defined, her waist also thinned and her breasts became more voluminous. She also came with a Stranger Things theme.
I found a Barbie and the Rockers cassette tape at a thrift store when I was 10. I actually like the songs! I listen to them on RUclips sometimes and it's so nostalgic.
Shitty of Mattel to copy though
There’s also other companies that made similar dolls that could’ve been inspired/copied by other dolls. Here’s some other examples:
“Chatsters” by Spin Master. They were released in 2014 and they bore a striking resemblance to Mattel’s “Diva Starz” dolls from the early 2000s.
“Snapstars” were more-or-less cheaper copies of Liv dolls.
A British doll line named Pippa was released in the early/mid ‘70s and they pretty similar to the American doll line Dawn released in 1970.
Another Spin Master line “Key Charm Cuties” was their first attempt at hitting the doll market. They were made to compete with Polly Pocket, but of course we all know who won lol.
Also, we can’t forget the Flavas by Mattel, which were rushed into production to compete with Bratz, and they flopped, big time.
We could also discuss Barbie EXTRA being a copy of L.O.L. Surprise, but we can debate about that if anyone’s interested 😌
i think there was a doll line Hasbro had done based around high school called Maxie (also the main dolls name) ..then Mattel decided to give Barbie a cousin named Jazzie.. i may be wrong but i think that Jazzie was supposed to be like Maxie..
I heard that too!
Part 2 pls
6:48 i loveee bratzillaz, but one thing i will point out is that MH made the create a monster series (i was obsessed with them as a kid) and MGA brought out bratzillaz version of create a monster dolls called: "switch a witch" and they look really similler to the create a monster dolls from MH. i mean even down to the core of the dolls they are a copy of the Create a monster dolls, i do love MGA's take on it tho i think its really neat personally, copy or not its a good quality copy. unlike other MH "ripoffs" such as those ones from family dollar lol.
Do you know anything of Mattel & Hasbro ever colab for the sindy doll?! I remembere having a sindy doll that had a Mattel stamp on it she was called ( sindy the Jean something) & (an other doll that had extremly long hair that changed colour or something & it came with a school bag/suitcase) that was around 2002-2003 I stall have them, I thought that sindy was Mattel owned... And had a body & face simeler to barbie, it looked like barbies younger sister or something if u put them next to each other. But that sindy didn't look even close to the sindy I had from the late 80s... If you have any information it would be helpful...
Do y’all have any Barbie clothes recommendations to buy
Because I finally bought a Barbie doll in such a long time
After I mistakingly gave away my Barbie dolls from my childhood away
So I have lunar new year Barbie and I want to have different Barbie dresses
Thanks in advance if anyone has any recommendations
My scene was my favorite dolls I used to pretend they was the bratz mom 😂😂😂😂
Your videos are always so good❤️
I think its funny how Barbie gets pissed when it has competition, but then ripped off Bratz with MyScene. Although I will say that My Scene was my favorite as a child. They were so pretty and glam! Sasha was beautiful
here in latinamerica (atleast in my contry) have al line of barbie copy named Brittany, they are surprisely good quality, have alot of accesorys and are very cheap (they cost like 200 NIO i do not know what they cost in $)
I assure you Bratzillaz didn't copy Monster High! Bratzillaz was just trying to get back at Mattel for my scene like Mattel started it Bratzillaz just took a page out of Mattel's book!
