- In this episode we begin upgrading the Z with big brakes from a Z32! We paint and reseal them to mak them look like new!
These specific brakes are 30mm aluminum calipers.
Note that I did end up having to clearance the calipers just a tiny bit to avoid interfering with the stock wheels. A very thin wheel spacer would work as well.

I am not a professional mechanic and the methods described in my videos are solely based on my research and intuition. I make mistakes and when I do, I try to point them out so others don't make the same mistakes. These videos are meant only as a description of what I was trying to do and how I went about doing it. i have these on mine... they stop ya pretty good.
Hey! Great Video! How can you add a parking brake with this setup? I recently purchased a 240z with the exact same setup as you but is missing parking brake. I'd like to add it. Thanks for your input!
Parking brakes would be on the rear wheels so it depends on what hub you're running on the rears. For a z31, if you put on z32 rears, you would need to weld a second caliper on for the hand brake.
Great video, please do one on the stock rear calipers too
You can't swap out the stock calipers for z32 calipers because they use different types of hand brakes. I'm keeping stock z31 rear calipers for the time being
@@TheZGarage yea, sorry that's what I meant. How to refurbish rear stock calipers 👍
The rear calipers are pretty much the same process. You can buy the rebuild kits on rockauto and then just do a similar tear down and cleaning process.
Them caliber well change your OFF SET in the front
I've been looking into doing this for my Z as well, when is part 2 coming?
Next week! It was just too long to put all in one video
By conversion lines u mean the 240 s14 ect lines that they make to swap to z32 calipers ?
I believe those would also work, but I was referring to z31 to z32 conversion lines which are stainless steel braided lines if I remember correctly.
@@TheZGarage the z32 con are they the same fitting on the side going to the reservoir by the I mean like do they just fit like the stock lines going from the caliper to the other lines or does the upgrade come with some conversion type line that has the fittings for the caliper and then conversion side for the line going towards the car and if they do where could I get some ?
What is the torque spec for the bolts holding the two halves together?
I haven't found any info for that but given that the caliper is aluminum and the bolt is steel, nothing crazy or it'll strip the caliper threads. I'd say give it a good snug by hand and if you're really worried, put some thread locker on it.
do a z32 maf vid
I've thought about it but it's different for different years of ecu and I only have an 86 so I wouldn't be able to show how to do it on each ecu. I might do a quick tip video for 86 models though
@@TheZGarage oh true, 87+ is way different
What year 300zx did you get the calipers from?
Any z32 will work but the turbos have larger calipers that are also aluminum instead of iron
Are those calipers 26mm or 30mm ?
These are 30mm
@@TheZGarage i was trying to look for that slip on adapter you talked about on the other video but no luck
Slip on adapter for what?
Instead of using 87-89turbo hubs
The concept is that later style hubs use slip on brake rotors and can thus use the z32 rotor which is wider than the z31. You can use z32 brakes on a z31 but because it has a smaller rotor, the pad will overhang the rotor slightly.
