Dig a 1-2 foot deep Trench between lawn types and fill it with concrete placing a row of pavers on top. Seems to be working to keep kikuyu out of my fescue.
I agree mate, miss doing them. Just takes so much longer to film now days that it’s a little harder to add them in. Hopefully I’ll figure out a better way to include them in future.
Last year I kept up with the liquid fert all winter and thought it was a bit of a waste, so this year I stopped applying fert once the temperature dropped. Turns out it was definitely making a difference, the lawn is already looking so much worse than it ever did last winter.
Thanks Ben, Question for you. I'm from south coast NSW and I have a buffalo lawn that is really compacted and pools water, also have a bit of a hill so water runs off pretty quick. I have been applying some soil wetter to try and help get the water into the soil but should I be looking to core aerate (wait for the spring/active growth) or solid tine aerate (again, can I do that now or should I wait for warmer weather)?
I think its important to add that the side you fertilise also gets mowed by a cylinder mower, has been scarified, aerated, cored and topsoiled. Not saying the products don't produce high results, because they do. But without the key steps of a lawn reno and removing thatch it will be hard to get a similar result to Ben's kik.
100% it helps with it being healthier all round. Noticed a huge difference once I finally started using liquids later in the season though. Reno’s always set up lawns for a good season but don’t always keep it there if programs aren’t put in place
Have you thought of what you going to use for irrigation, ie the booster pump, pipe size, main line size, irrigation heads, etc. I would think a 2in main line for water supply to the irrigation at least if not 3in as the distance from the well and the elevation change, plus a pretty beefy booster pump to push that water.
When mixing the fertiliser with the recommended amount of water, but your sprayer's pressure is too high, so you end up emptying your sprayer before spraying the whole yard. Can you double the water content, especially since you want to leave enough fert on the blades? Or do you need to walk really fast or get a different sprayer?
Just wondering if PRG can be grown without any fertilizer under certain conditions or whether it's absolutely necessary. I seeded a new lawn with RPR two months ago and it's absolutely reliant on my liquid fert. I thought it was all dying two days ago and now it looks lush after a conservative spray of powerfeed.
Rye is very fertiliser hungry to be honest. Definitely needs fert to keep it looking it’s best or it will look like green and a little thin if not fertiliser. Usually I would apply granular every 10-12 weeks and liquids once a month
Some guy Brian blitz car detailing raves about you on his Facebook page Ben, he credits your videos for his lawn! Just a FYI a car detailing preaches about you on Facebook 😂🤙
Great vid Ben. I have 100m2 of lawn and a solo 417 sprayer (double head). If I put only the 4 litres and fert, when I get half way through, my solo starts to play up - thinking due to air getting in the line from sloshing around from walking. Do you have the same problem with yours, or know any work around a other than using more water/fert? Thinking to also go back to a single nozzle, and find those nozzle head you use. Cheers mate
Thanks mate! Yeah I found the 417 gets an airlock towards the end. I used to drop it off one shoulder and it would fix the issue. Some guys have upgraded to the brass wand instead of the plastic one and it’s fixed it as well. Here is the nozzle I use mate: www.drnozzle.com.au/shop/backpack-sprayer-nozzle-pack/402PACK
@@LawnTips I had the same problem with my 417. I put some tank foam in to stop the liquid sloshing around. It's the stuff that people use in pimped up cars to stop the fuel sloshing around in the tank. That seems to have helped a lot.
Hi Ben, i have a question on pre emergents, can you also use them in the garden, assuming that you have established plants. & if you have established plants, but dig them up re design that garden & put them back into the same garden, how long until you could use the pre emergent again. & can you use a pre emergent around Australian native plants ? This would be great to know, as some of us have these plants with our lawns.
Hey mate, pretty avid viewer of your content so I just wanted to provide some feedback. The comparison you made between your 2 sections of lawn really isn't a fair one. From what I can tell, you aren't doing any of the other regular maintenance tasks to the "dormant" section of the lawn, but it seems you are implying that fertilizer is the only difference between the 2 sections. I get that you have a product and that you are trying to build a business, but please aim to be as transparent as possible to ensure you maintain integrity. Coming from a person who hopes you have many years ahead of successful RUclips videos 🙂 PS, I'm looking to grow a small front lawn of RTF down in Melbourne, and I'm struggling to find information on safe pre and post emergent herbicides. Are there any that you can recommend? I currently have OxaPro for my buffalo nature strip, but realise that a lot of herbicides won't cross over between tall fescue and buffalo 😔 appreciate your feedback 🙂
Hey mate, Really didn’t mean that the fert is the only difference but it’s the main reason for it holding colour this time of year. Definitely wouldn’t be like this just with fert as you say. The main goal of the video was to show how much colour the fert helps retain this time of year. Especially the liquid iron. Cultural practices are a huge part of maintaining a lawn and something I harp on about week after week. I even have the last few videos with this section as well. I should have commented this in this video you are correct. Definitely never implied the fert was the only difference though. Would be against my values to even intend that. The thumbnail is a bit click baity though which may have been the confusion I guess. As for the tall fescue. Barricade is safe on both. I have used it on both in the past. I just can’t recommend it due to the fact it’s not registered in Australia for Tall Fescue (but it is registered in the U.S) As for post emergents you can use turf control (or bow and arrow) on both!
@@LawnTips All good mate, my feedback was more suggesting it could be misinterpreted, I'm confident you didn't intend for it to sound that way! Appreciate the advice regarding the RTF 🙏
@@LawnTips i can certainly attest to how great liquid fertilizers are, I have been using the plant doctor stuff for a while now. Can I ask how your product differentiates itself from the rest? I'm getting low on my "Ben's pack" and looking to reorder for the coming spring.
What’s the cost price per 100sqm using all of these like compared to granular from Bunnings? Sorry if this is a silly question
Great advise as always Ben!
Pretty pumped for the Par 3 construction. Can't wait to watch the series!!
Yeah still giving the Kikuyu liquids in the winter through winter here in NZ. Will get a primo program going again in September. Cant wait!
Cannot wait to see how this par 3 turns out. This is a dream and goal of mine for my back yard eventually. Love the videos and tips!
Def noticing a difference using liquid. Thanks for the tips. Only drama I'm having is kikuyu breaching into my buffalo. Any tips Ben?
Always a hard one with kikuyu in buffalo to be honest. Best way is painting with something like glyphosate and keeping on top of it.
Dig a 1-2 foot deep Trench between lawn types and fill it with concrete placing a row of pavers on top. Seems to be working to keep kikuyu out of my fescue.
Just noticed amgrow works on buffalo but not kikuyu. Does that mean it would kill the kikuyu and not my buff @lawntips?
looookingggg goooood!.. cant wait to see the par 3 take shape.. #excitingtimesahead!
Be great to see the Par 3 development - plan looks great 👍
I Miss the cinematic clips you used to do at your old house. Still like the videos though. Keep it up mate.

Did a special video this week because of this comment 😉

awesome vid yet again mate, quick question how long after I put enhance down can I mow?
Thanks mate! You’ll be fine about 4 hours afterwards

I think Core aerate and gypsum should help, but I'm no pro by any means so best to take Ben's advice lol

100%. Only fertilising one side of the renovated lawn area would be a better gauge

Hey Ben, I no longer get recommendations to any of your videos at all. Anyone else experiencing this? Your property is looking great mate!
I’m not sure why sorry mate! Hard to know what the algorithm does these days
If you hit the bell icon, you get notifications at least...
Is it safe to use with dogs? I have all your stuff just haven’t used it out the back yard due to the dogs. Front lawn looks amazing though
Sure is mate! Just make sure it dries before they get back on the lawn

I don't know which is greener .... your lawn or the Kikuyu in your garden beds 🤣🤣
Was that the fan nozzle ?
Lawns looking mint 👌
What turf you going for the green
Keen to see this happen
Will be going with some Bent grass for sure!
Nice looking forward to it 👍

@assassnim do you know any names of brands of them, or who sells them at all mate, i will look into it, if you do. Thank you.
@assassnim Thank you, much appreciated.
Perfecto 👌🏼
Is this still the Plant doctor stuff or a new blend?
Hey Gregory, this is a new blend 👌🏽
I only distribute from one company now which gives me some more flexibility
I assume don’t apply if rain expected in the next 24 hours?
You can apply if it’s going to rain in 24 hours. Only needs to be on the leaf for 4-6 hours before rainfall or irrigation.
what nozzle are you using in this vid brah
Hey mate, does the buffalo lawn plan for QLD work with “NQ buffalo” which is in fact carpet grass ?
It would work well! Always just need to be more careful with herbicides and carpet grass
@@LawnTips just bought it. Wish me luck, just need to wait until the 200mls of rain has evaporated lol.
Niceee - glad u made this video. In line with our email exchanges recently Ben 😄
Not a worry mate! Get the questions quite a lot so though I’d do a video on it 🤙🏼

How do you get 4L to 100sqm if you do it twice, that's only 2L per 100sqm, do you run 😂😂
Yeah that’s what I meant actually.
Nah you’ll be surprised how slow it is!
Not realistic for the average Joe to buy all these products. If you could only use 1 liquid fertiliser which one would you use? Enjoy your videos👍🇦🇺
Last Aussie 😁

real lawn needs no fertiliser
