Love this hack! We have been wanting a lower profile curb and think this will work for us. We will marry the curb to a pony wall though, also made of kerdi board, and are wondering what the final dimensions of the curb are? Thanks so much!
You could use any type of 1/2" backer board for this because the entire curb will be covered in waterproofing. We usually use what's most readily available but honestly prefer some type of hardi backer or cement board for the top. .
Years ago when membrane systems started showing up trained tilers would use foam(XPS) to make trays and actually belt sanded and cut them out and covered them in schluter membrane. Do you thi k one could just construct curbs out of foam and wrap them in membrane. I did it once with regular Kerdi cloth. I did it on site and found that I had to clamp the cloth on to get it to make the corners and stay adhered. What do you think?
Can you mount glass on a curb like this and how would you go about it? Although you show they are sturdy, it doesn't seem like there is much to screw into?
Thanks again for another awesome video. We do appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. I love this idea. I work with a lot of elderly, veterans, people with mobility issues. This is a nice addition for them to have a less intrusive curb. Thanks again and please keep the videos coming. “FLIP”
Dude, bad ass video! You're the man! Question: can you use go board instead of kerdi board to build out the rest of the cut curb? Also, what about using a polyurethane for the adhesive to put it together with?
Go board would be good to use to build a curb or build out the rest of the curb and something like Hydroban sealant would be good to seal and waterproof. I would band the curb though. Keep in mind that Kerdi fix is not waterproof
Omg you dont know how much this video helped ive been installing normal shower curbs with 4by4s and durock as I don't know how to use the Kerdi system and something has always been off the shower curb always seems way to big.
I cut my kerdi curb down to 2x3 as well. When I set it next to the kerdi tray. The curb isn’t 2 inches taller than the tray. When waterproofing the inside and outside corner. There won’t be a 2 inch over lap between the two corners. I have to cut a slit 1/4 inch down on the inside corner to wrap it on top of the curb. I also have to cut down the outside corner by quite a bit. Will this still be water proof ? I want my curb as low profile as possible. But I’m thinking about rebuilding the curb up by half an inch so I have that 2 inch overlap in corners. What do you think?
Do you ever Kerdi fix 3/4” plywood up in the top of the void to make shower door installation easier or do you use anchors? If so which style/brand anchor do you find works best being that it is so easy to drill tile?
what if i cut the curb length straight down from just to say the 3” or 4” in height down an inch or two will it work? and how do you go about water proofing a low profile curb is it the same procedure as a regular curb?
Nice video. I bought the Schluter shower system and got 2 curbs that are too wide for my 2x4 knee wall. I was just going to use stacked 2x4's but now I'm using the curbs they sent me. Question: what is the rough width I need for the curb after cutting? I also won't be using any Kerdi board to build it. Just the 2 sides and the top. Question 2: have you ever used one of these curbs as a foot rest instead of a corner shelf? I would appreciate a response if you would be so kind because I am about 2 weeks away from doing this. Thanks
@@LandbergTileTV thanks for quick response and the measurements. Trying to do this on a budget and not have 2 curbs left over that I have to store somewhere. Thanks again

@@Relaxokay359 GabeGT said ‘if I am going to wrap the curb in Kerdi anyways’. To @GabeGT, the main point of using foam board is to save time, not necessarily material cost. But he’s showing how you can save both in this video. He made 4 curbs in way less time than a single 2x4/cement board curb.
This is just what I was looking for. I'm glad you did this video as I'm currently remodeling my bathroom myself. Just a quick question about a shower wall. I'm putting in a almost 6' long shower inche that goes across the whole wall. I have the lower wall level and plum and the upper wall. But when putting a long level from top to bottom they are out. Does the top of wall above the inche need to be plum with the bottom wall under the inche? Many thanks
Always get those cardboard shimms and flatten the wall as best as possible. You can wet shimm with kerdi as well. A six foot long niche will require proper framing or you could use a foam curb and make a 6 foot long shelf instead .

Do you ever Kerdi fix 3/4” plywood up in the top of the void to make shower door installation easier or do you use anchors? If so which style/brand anchor do you find works best being that it is so easy to drill tile?
We use anchors and lately we stuff the holes with wood shims (split up shims) hammered in. This allows our impact driver to bite if that makes sense.
