The 'Hawaiian' applique actually reminds me of Baltimore album quilt patterns. I agree with you that the combination of the traditional applique pattern with the modern fabrics is stunning! Loved all of these quilts!

The one you called a Mandala in the beginning; is called a "Dresden Plate" in the US. Easily done with a Dresden template and the fabric cut strip piecing. Easy to do and looks spectacular.
