Man thank you so much for the videos on the raptor!!!! I’m not the best mechanic and don’t know everything about 4 wheelers and don’t really have people to help me figure things out…. So thank you again and please keep making these educational videos on the raptor!!!
Blown head gasket caused water to leak into cylinder which water expands in the form of steam When heated and increases compression astronomically:- hence the stretched head bolts, corrosion, and your cracked jug and motor mount. I’m almost sure you will have Bent or warped your rod as well.

I do recomend some copper head gasket spray on your head gasket before re-assembly. Its done very well for me.
The helicoil should repair the threads. I would put some loctite on the helecoil when going in and let it set for 12hrs before continuing.

There is a chance that I will tear this back down before Christmas to get this head machined, so I plan on going over the head components (Valve train), what else would you like to see and or have explained?
@@Hunters_Mechanics on my 660 I have antifreeze mixing into the oil reservoir which I assume is the head gasket. I decided to upgrade the piston/jug while I'm at it. Your videos are perfect for getting to the point of replacing the piston and installing the new jug, then reassembly. I was curious if you had another video coming to show this
@@joido1 I'd definitely say head gasket or you might have a warped head like mine, other than what I already uploaded on assembling it, I only have plans for the valve train in the future, let me know if you want anything else!
First off, great videos I'm doing a complete test down for the first down and you are doing an amazing job with your directions. Secondly, Do you buy your hardware and gasket sets from a dealer or from ebay? Like you, I'm not trying to spend a whole lot on this bike but parts seem to be pretty pricey. Thanks again for the great how to video.
Depends on what it is, for important gaskets I buy oem gaskets like head gaskets, or important orings inside the engine, everything else I just use RTV black or ebay gasket kits

Thanks for the video Hunter. I'm getting parts together to do the same engine on my Grizzly (it's smoking, going to do valve seals and cylinder kit). FYI - It's hard to tell in the vid, but at 11:33 ish, it appears the stripped bolt is shorter than the other front bolt. I'm fairly certain there are two different length cylinder bolts and the long ones go in the dowel pin (front) holes, and the short ones go in the back. Could you confirm and let me know. Thanks bud!
That is correct and you have a sharp eye! I made sure to state that in the next video after I inspected the bolts and realized that
im about to do a top end refresh on mine, how do you know its in top dead center when you put it back together?
The little peap holes on the left side of you engine, when you line the "I" up with the slit, that's when you're TDC. I'm working on the next set where I explain all of this!
So how did it all work out for you? Did you get it back together?
Currently waiting for this weekend to put it back together, had to work a little more to get money to buy the kit and bolt and had to prepare for college, I should have the next video out next week if all goes well

Tip for you kid.... Coat the outside of the engine with "purple power" cleaner and take it to the car wash before disassembly.. Clean everything before you start.... 🙂
I didnt want to shoot cleaners or water i to the engine because I had a large crack in the jug. I wiped everything with brake clean to break up lose dirt and ensured I was careful when installing everything. That large crack really ruined most of my plans lol 😅
I have a question.. i have a 01 660 and i just changed the timing belt because it was almost broken and the bike is loudly backfiring when trying to start and would blow carb boots off same time... well its still doing it and ive been asking everyone what they think it could be?
It definitely sounds like you used the wrong alignment holes when setting the timing. When I was 90 degrees off that exactly what mine did! It backfired and it blew the carbs off, just hope you did have any piston to valve collision
@@Hunters_Mechanics that would make sense was just hoping it wasnt that cus i spent all day trying to get it lined up perfect. Guess ill try it again and see what happens. Is there any trick to get it lined up just right ?

@@Hunters_Mechanics yeah i watched your video like 3 times before i started i thought i had it spot on. If not the timing chain could it be a sticky or bent valve? Id have to take the whole top end off to find out huh?
I just rebuilt the same head with the exact same issue including that same bolt stripped. I heli coiled it. How is the motor holding up since this rebuild?
Still rocking it, I've had the jug off 2 more times since this video and the helicoil is still in and it torques like it should!

Why didn't you wash that quad before disassembly of the engine
you did what I did you put the wrong bolt there are 2 shorts can clearly see in the picture the back is way to long , i was able to put the long bolt in and it held , But I m not gettting oil to return to the tank . so gotta tear it down again.. But open the cases this time
at the end of the video when he was talking about putting rags into the motor you added the same clip in the video twice

Clean your engine before you start work. Cleanliness is next to godliness.
To keep the dirt out. That hole quad should have been pressure washed thoroughly before you attempted tear down. Or even pulled the entire motor. Just asking for trouble with that much dirt and debris everywhere

A timesert works a lot better than a heilicoil the timesert is more of a permanent fix. Just for future reference (not trying to be a smart ass)
I had someone tell me that right after I had already put it together and I'm like 'well it's kind of too late now' lol will be using that for any future threads that break!
