Man thank you so much for the videos on the raptor!!!! I’m not the best mechanic and don’t know everything about 4 wheelers and don’t really have people to help me figure things out…. So thank you again and please keep making these educational videos on the raptor!!!
Excellent video brother,keep them coming!!
Fantastic step by step videos! Thank you for you time!
Watching this as a mechanic from jamaica
Need help with my 04
Excellent video and explanations. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video bud, Thank You
Great video!
thank-you for the pro job ! and attn 2 detail !
Great video.
Great job, thank you.
Thanks for the vid.
Nice video good job 😊👌
I REALLY ENJOYED THAT KID...AWSOME VIDEO...
My man! I cant thank you enough. I just picked up two raptor basket cases. The motors are completely apart. Your videos are going to be a life saver. One of the best detailed videos out there on youtube. Appreciated the hard work. 🙏
Gonna need these videos for when I decide to blow 10k on parts for a big motor
Hey man, talked to you a long time ago and my engine being messed up. Turns out piston cracked and went to bottom end wiped out a bunch of shit. Long story short 1400$ and got it running. Then my starter clutch went and got that fixed. Runs like a beast now just trying to sell it.
I've replaced the starter clutch in mine twice because the spring behind the bearings kept getting stuck and would just cause the starter to spin and not the engine. That sucks that you had that piston issue happen, hope you find a more reliable quad!
Did the whole rebuild followed every step exactly like u did it my crank shaft is hitting the balancer
Aye I have a question I'm trying to install a shift shaft pedal but as soon I put it on it slides off the pen back .....
I need help my 660 shift shaft keep pushing itself out how do I get it to fit tight
🤘🏼🤘🏼
I need help with my 04 raptor 660 for some reason my shift shaft keep pushing off column and there is no spring back
Do u have videos on Grizzly like this one
Is there more video of tearing the engine down
What holds the shift shaft together mine keeps sliding out ....
How do you know if your oil pump is bad?
Have you had any problems with the half moon key on the crank shearing
It looks like someone before me has, the magneto was torn all to hell on the inside where it looks like it spun on the crank
Hey I’m getting my engine rebuilt and I saw the crank shaft it has some blue coloring on the metal where it hooks up to the piston rod any idea if its normal? New or used part? A shop is doing the rebuilt.
Brand new cranks can have a blue mark on it since most of the time they are heated to extreme temperatures to be assembled, as long as you don't have any noticeable cracks, wear, or insane clearance between the rod and crank then it should be fine
@@Hunters_Mechanics thanks a lot I appreciate it.
I have the same enginge in my motorcycle and i want to do the same, but the bearings are just expensive as hell 🙁
That's why I was glad that mine were fine, I do remember seeing someone on ebay selling the transmission and crankshaft bearings as a set for much cheaper than buying individually
7:24 min mark.. My spring is stiffer than hell. Is that normal? I free spun the clutch basket with a driver and went through the gears and the shifting was a little harsh...
It should be stiff as hell, your foot and a shifter can produce a lot more force than your hand and a screw driver lol mine got to the point where it didn't have enough tension for the shifter to move the shift drum so it stayed in like 2nd gear, couldn't shift up or down lol
@@Hunters_Mechanics When you put that spring on there it looked really easy so that threw me off lmao but what you say makes sense.. It needs to be really stiff.
Where did you get your rebuilt kit
Almost all of the parts I bought In this video is OEM and I got them from Partzilla, granted it took them ages to ship to me
Can you rebuild my raptor 686r bottom end?! Had a vibration at 1/4 up timing was great and the complete top end is new 686 11.1 .
Though doing the top end would get rid of the vibration but I'm worried it's a balance shaft or bearing. If you can perform this service let me know asap
I wish I could but I am still a full-time college student till (hopefully) this coming May. After I get out I am thinking about taking in work!
Hunters Mechanics well I took apart the engine (completely) everything I did was correct! My problem was the piston was hitting the head ever so slightly about another .20 thousands it would be fine. Yamaha Piston to head clearance is very tight the head was deck about. .10 - .15 thousands
So my vibration was the new Wiseco 11.1 piston hitting the head I use cometic engine rebuild gasket kit from cometic. call them you can have any gasket built to any size you need and I got mines .20 thicker stock is .10 thousands So. 30 thousand . It's a 2001 but has the better 2nd gear so I just reassembled the engine with hot rods stage 2 cam and springs and with the 686 11.1 . Just have to figure out jetting .
@@shawnboy4368 good to know you got it figured out!
where can i find a good crank and crank bearing for a good price?
I have raptor 660 hot rods crank
Is there much difference in instructions for Rhino 660 motor?
I've never had one so I wouldn't know. I'd assume not since those bottom ends are not a true manual transmission and use belts (correct me if I am wrong)
I'm doing a raptor 660 like that. When I took it apart it was in neutral and now it's not having a rough time getting it in the neutral. Any ideas how to do that would be appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry for the late reply, RUclips won't send me notifications for comments..... have you figured it out yet? After I got the forks for the drum aligned I didn't really have an issue getting it in neutral, I would double check with the manual to ensure that you have every gear in the right order, along with having the forks in the right position. Does it shift through the other gears fine?
Yes, I got it figured out. Thanks for the reply
I've got another question. The amount balancer I think I'm having an issue with mine being the wrong way because it keeps hitting crankshaft. Any ideas on that?
@@jaysonkelley9519 i assume you mean counter balance, are the timing dots lined up as shown at 11:05?
Ok thanks
I just rebuild my 2005 raptor 660 and waiting on a new carb, but question if I press down the clutch, will this allow my quad to move when it's in gears?
My quad only moves in neutral, NOT when is in gears even by pressing the clutch and friends are telling me that the clutch should allow my quad to move and that something is wrong with my clutch.
I haven't been able to run it yet because I don't have the carb.
It'll feel stiff in gear but it should still move, you may not just have the clutch cable adjusted right since you just rebuilt the engine, I know I had to adjust mine quite far before I was able to shift into gear without it killing it
The clutch lever moves with the slightest resistance. Yet it will not disengage the clutch even after turning the lever to its max pull.
@@jorgevirgen1660 The lever definitely should have some grab to it, could also be because you don't have oil in the case to allow the friction and steel plates to move and compress when needed. I know my lever just flopped back and forth when I fresh rebuilt mine, I just put the spring on the lever and then adjusted the clutch cable roughly to the manual spec and it worked fine
Thanks I watch most of your videos to rebuild my quad. Thanks
Do you have a video that explains how to replace the decompression pin on the 660 Yamaha raptor
I do not, it appears I need to since I've had several questions about it lol
@@Hunters_Mechanics It would be awesome if you made a video on that. I watched all your videos and they helped me on some problems I was having. I subscribed to your channel and would definitely be interested in watching.
@@andrespinon6841 I'll keep that in mind over break, ive got a few videos planned around the Christmas time since I'll have time to record
Hey if the timing is correct on the bike I have12 V on the battery cam gap is correct when I get it to turn over The bike feels like it has a lot of compression and then don’t wanna crank. I took off the spark plug and spins smoothly frilly no noises
@@andrespinon6841 How hard is it to turn the engine over by hand with the spark plug in?
I followed your steps for the build but mine will not shift into gear I have everything connected and hooked up besides the clutch cover everything else is there what could be the problem?
Does the shift shaft rotate the drum when you move it up or down? Did you rotate the main axle when trying to shift gear since the gears have to be rotating to shift?
@@Hunters_Mechanics I figured it out thank you man, the shaft came off of the key for the drum so when you shift it’s just basically pulling the spring that’s it once I connect it back on the key it would work thank you again!!
@@Hunters_Mechanics so I have the clutch cover off the plates off the boss off and the basket and when I shift the shift shaft it pops it off the circle key that sits on the outside of the drum why is that?
@@bobosbikes2467 When you're shifting it by hand you must be putting force towards yourself and causing it to slip off. But also, when the clutch basket is installed, it will stop the shift shaft from moving off that round collar. When I had my issues with my shifting, that's what thought was happening but the clutch basket sits there to stop it from coming off. Install the basket and the boss with the nut and see if it still pops off
@@Hunters_Mechanics will do sir I’m going to do that now!! I was thinking that basket should hold it but I will check
Hey man, can take a look at the video I just posted and tell me what you think? I just re did valves and it’s still making that noise
What all work have you done to it? Check the timing chain slack and make sure it was tight?
@@Hunters_Mechanics 686 bore (OEM cylinder) 11:1 JE piston, stage 2 hot cam, dual springs, full FMF. I got it in December and I’ve been rebuilding it slowly since (kids eat up a lot of time lol)
@@Lemensgarage well I can't tell exactly over the phone but does it disappear when it get warm or quieter? It almost sounds like a piston slap than a valve train ticking (but again its hard to tell where it's coming from on video) and yeah, living 3 hours away from the garage now eats a lot of my time lol
