Owned both (16 and 14) sold the 16. Found I prefered the view angle, size, weight and didnt mind 2.8 vs 1.4. I also found the 14 sat better with the 23 f1.4 and 56 f1.2. Plus since it's so small, if I am using the 16-80 and 70-300 I can find a corner to carry the 14 as well.
Now that I have the 18 f1.4 and the 14 f2.8 , I think I can sell the 16 f1.4, but keep the 16 f2.8 for its size and autofocus advantages over the 18 and 14, respectively.
I have the 14mm 2.8 and use it on my xt30. Honestly, I don't notice the AF being that sluggish. Yes, it is slower than my 35 f2, but still holds it's own. Also, it is a super sharp lens!
The issue with the AF is not how fast it is (even if newer lenses are faster), but the noise which makes it unusable for some video applications. Other than that, it's a great lens
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography I totally agree. It's very noisy lol. It will hunt a good bit in video too. I meant more on the photography side of things that it is adequately fast.
Your reviews are in-depth, practical, you are very thoughtful and include many usages. High quality. Your review made me consider buying this lens used. In 2023 for an X-T5 as I don’t enjoy using zoom lenses and also like the size. Thanks for devoting your time.
Good to see you again Luca, this video is very well done, you really covered everything anyone would need to know about the lens before making a purchase. After watching the video I went on line and as you mentioned, it’s expensive (for an amateur like me, not for the professional), B&H has at new for about $900 and used at KEH for over $500. So for now I’ll keep playing with the XF16 f/2.8 Be well and stay safe.
are you happy with your purchase? Even thought you own the 14 im debating getting the 14mm or is it the wrong choice to make seeing the 13 with price and speed being better?
At this point I would definitely get the Viltrox 13 over the Fuji 14. It is 2 stops faster, better AF and great image quality. The Fuji wins only in size and weight
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography yeah, there are some third party options but I sadly discovered that the AF doesn’t work on lower end Fujis like the X-T100, at least the Samyang 12 f/2 doesn’t…
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography Whatever it is, I am looking forward towards it! Although I absolutely would be interested in your opinion on the XF 18 1.4, since I am planning to buy one.
Thank you! If you're looking for a prime lens, wide, for photo and video... The best option you have is the new Fuji 18mm f1.4. It's a great lens both optically and for autofocus. It renders great image quality, with fast and accurate AF. If you want to go wider than 18mm, you can look at the Viltrox 13mm f1.4, or event the Fuji 14mm as long as you don't record video on camera

Same set-up here, happy with it, I can absolutely relate to that.

Thank you. Unfortunately it is expensive, but with good lenses this is always the case
I have the 14mm but got the Viltrox 13mm 1.4. Incredible lens!
Both great lenses

I got one yesterday for 217 bucks US. I think it was a good deal. What do you think?
For that price is definitely not a good deal... It's more than that, it's a steal!
I wonder why Fujifilm still hasn’t updated this lens or added a wider angle prime (like a 17mm FF equivalent)
I don't know the answer, but I share the same concerns. A wider prime should be part of the lenses lineup

They did, and some time ago. The FUJIFILM XF 8mm f/3.5 R WR.
Es un objetivo fantástico, yo lo utilizo para paisajes y foto de calle.
Es perfecto!
It's a great lens, I agree
Do you use the XF 18 1.4 lens for this video? :-)
You'll know next week (I hope)

Hi! Thanks for video. What lens you would advise for video and photo? I want to buy Fuji X-T4

@@joellevis404 i meant as long as you don't record audio on camera when talking about the 14mm
@@LucaPetraliaPhotography In the end I stopped my choice on Tamron 17-70 f/2.8 because it's more less universal lens.
@@joellevis404 let me know how you find it
I guess you use the new 23mm f1,4 I’m wir? 🙂
Nope, the 23 1.4 (either the new or the old one) is one of the few lenses i have never owned
l’ve got 16mm f/1.4 which is wide enough for me.
Then you don't need the 14👍
