In the old film days (50 years ago) a FF 21mm was a great and respected wide angle lens, you focused at about 2 meter put the aperture on 5.6 (sweet spot for most lenses) and everything from 1 meter to the horizon was in focus. So that's great for street photography zone focus and after that just point and shoot! Getting closer is just a change of habit nothing more.
Great video 👌 I use my 14 2.8 much less since I've got 10-24, but it's still my favourite Fuji lens, the biggest IQ difference between it and 10-24 is in lookups and backlit subjects IMO, 14 is waaaaay more contrasty in these situations. I wish Fujifilm made 12mm lens like it with weather sealing 😶
Manual focus is very easy and efficient with such a focal lenght and thanks to focus scale and true manuel focus ring. Just use it as a snap shot camera for street photography
I own the 16/1.4 but wanted something wider. Got sick of waiting for a mkII of the 14/2.8 so I just bought it, should arrive in the mail tomorrow. It does look to be a stella lens, perhaps its price reflects its output, sometimes you have to pay a lot for a good 14mm (21mm).
Yeah I only have this 14mm lens plus my 56mm f1.2. I almost only use the 14mm for work (in enclosed spaces) or for the occasional landscape, putting pressure on me to buy a third lens somewhere between the two. Slightly reluctant to do that, though, so I may try disciplining myself to take street photography with 14mm and 56mm. A challenge, as they're both a bit extreme, but it can be done. Most of it will be with the 56mm. Like you, I like to stay with two lenses.
Great review! Yeah I'm searching for a nice wide angle option for events. The 14mm might be the least versatile option, but I like the look a lot. And it's very light. But even second hand it's quite expensive. What would you consider the best wide lens for events?
Thank you! The 14mm is the lens I always regret selling tbh. For events it will have to be the 16 1.4, only briefly used it but IQ wise and having the speed indoors is huge
I own a 18-55mm & 55-200mm, and adding another lens to my travel kit is really pushing it, but I find myself taking close up shots of my friends I'm traveling with at the 18mm, sometimes as close as I can really get. Really split on a $380 second hand 14mm f2.8 or the other options around it, But just from testing them myself 16mm doesn't feel like a big enough difference from my 18mm to want to get a 16mm. The 10-24mm might also be too much $ for how much I will find myself using it, and I would not use the upper half of that lenses focal length very much (~17mm - 24mm side).
@@nickgoogle4525 Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up getting this lens about 3 weeks ago, and I love it very much! It is a great complement to my others.
the 14mm prime may be better because it's a prime and it forces u to be creative. Just like 18-55 vs 35 - 35 typically would produce better photo because you are more creative with a prime
Have you considered you're comparing LONDON to JAPAN. Japan is like cheat mode for photographs. London is bleak and horrible. Which I think is coming out in those photos you're describing.
Most the major photography stores here in the UK sell used gear (even the official Fujifilm store). With all used lenses etc I'd just make sure that they have warranty rather than getting them off Ebay where its a bit of a lottery.
Every time you have a lens in your hand in your videos you can't stop flipping it again and again. Every flip my heart goes boom boom he's gonna drop it. You're stressing me 😂
@@erenjam When I'm in the streets and there's nothing to shoot, I just do a juggling show with my prime lenses. As you know, I like to go out when it's raining. That's why I prefer weather resistant prime lenses to juggle so no water gets inside. That's why I sold the 14mm. It was not weather sealed. I never juggle with a zoom lens. I also prefer stabilized lenses so the trajectories are predictable and always have the same quality.
Solid use-case analysis of lens attribute trade-offs, Eren👍. Good music choice, too. Was waiting for your call on weather resistance - you didn’t disappoint😁. With some editing you should be able to get closer to the 14mm IQ attributes you prefer, no? My hunch is that, as you hinted, Fuji will update the lens w/weather resistance and focus performance improvements - can’t change w/firmware. Old joke: “Is that a lens in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?”😁. Kidding aside, if compact portability is so vital, why not try, say, a Micro 4/3 cam - not heresy to have a bit of 2nd tier gear. In the mantime, hang in there, Eren - 1 million days and counting. London restrictions aren’t as bad as Paris today, are they? Cheers!
The 10-24mm is more a swiss army knife, makes up for the quality in usefulness but there is a visible difference in shots taken between the two, even after editing. 14 has a feel of the older Fuji lens lineup (25 1.4, 56 1.2 etc). As for 3/4, the lineup isn't so great, Olympus are pretty much out of business and the Panasonic's are great for video but they aren't really compact. The restrictions have eased a bit but living with parents etc means I have to be on guard :D. Should be back to some normality in a weeks time.

Would be interesting to test that out with some street photography !
Your Japan pics look amazing
The 20mm f2.8 Nikkor I used to use was my favourite and this is a perfect replacement- for cities it can’t be beat. Esp Tokyo last week!
This with weather resistance would be so nice!
100% agree

@@erenjam 12mm from Samyang is a good third party option, especially for its price.

Was looking for a lens for architecture so this was really helpful! Think I’m gonna go for this
Real good choice

It’s a really nice lens, I’m not sure if a MKii is on the way so should be a good buy for years to comr
Despite buying the 15-55mm/2.8, I didn't sell my 16mm/1.4, nor I ever will. But as you had said, 16mm/f1.4 is easy to recommend...
I only hear good things about the 16 1.4, need to try it!
Would you stay this lens is good for tight space (interior) photos?

Great review buddy. Never tried the 14mm, but your images looks tight. I do love my 16mm 1.4 too 👌🏽
Gotta test out that 16 1.4, has legendary status in the Fujifilm community
Great video Erin
I am thinking of getting it for video focusing manually. What do you think?

Get the 14mm. A great complement to the 18-55. Uses also the same lens hood, which is practical.

14/2.8s can be had very cheap right now. Got a mint used a few weeks ago of just over £200. Very nice and very wide
The 14mm is excellent for landscape and architectural photography.
totally agree! I miss this lens

Not yet, may end up sticking with the 10-24 as I don't seem to shoot wide that often
Oh man, if you were local, I'd lend you the 16 f/1.4 right away to test out in the elements
Really appreciate that 🙏🏼 I only hear good things about the 16 1.4 :D
Nice review, I agree with all the points with you! I got 16mm 2.8 instead of 14mm because of WR and faster AF 😁
